[Q] From Gingerblur to 2.3.4 HKTW? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sorry if somebody already posted that, i swear I had a look
I have a SIM unlocked AT&T MB860 Atrix with gingerblur 4.5, and I would like to try some real gingerbread goods, which means bootloader unlock and 2.3.4 HKTW.
Do I have to flash back to 1.8.3 stock sbf before actually unlocking and installing gingerbread? I heard people saying is not safe to flash sbf for SIM-Unlocked Atrix because it can cause Wi-Fi problems, is it still the case?
Second problem: I had my phone rooted, but now I don't have an external micro SD card, so I wouldn't be able to root with gingerbreak-similar methods, is this a deal breaker or there is another way to complete the process all the way through?
Thanks a lot

As a general rule, it's best to flash back to stock before flashing anything else. Because Gingerblur requires Tenfar's recovery to run, I believe this will be the best way to do this. If someone else could chime in about the SIM-unlock/wifi issue, that would be great.
As for the rooting method on 2.3.4 HKTW, it works by installing a ZIP through recovery. In my own experience, it only seems to read external SD cards. If you can make it read the internal somehow, then you should be able to root.

i was on GingerBlur 3.1 (rooted via GladRoot), and did the following over the weekend
- flashed the unlocker SBF (still on 1.8.3)
- flashed the new CWM onto the phone via fastboot
- flashed GingerBlur 4.5 using that CWM, just for a few days
- flashed the 2.3.4 IMG using the Windows x64 guide in the general forum.
ran into no problems, and the GB build was already rooted when it booted up.

Good to know, thanks!
Did you clear data or anything like that after flashing?

oh, right, forgot. i did do the fastboot -w beforehand.

i have simunlocked atrix as well, it makes no difference.
I went from Greyblur straight to GB with no issues.

Thanks guys
This is worth a try

If I wanted to return to the stock ROM after flashing 2.3.4, all I have to do is RSDLite flash 1.8.3 back correct and then restore using CWM?

I just did this tonight, and for some reason, I had some problems flashing the 1.8.3 SBF directly. So I downloaded the 1.2.6 (shipping) firmware and just did the updates.

[q] update confusion

1.83 is just a speed update right? Like network speed? I am running grey blur with the telstra or what ever radio for the higher upload speeds. ... with that said is there any reasons at all to update to 1.83 anymore? It is there more s
To the 183 update then just dl and up speeds. Right now I get 4-6 down usually like 5.3 down or so annd 1.1 1.4 upload with the 1.77 (telstra or w/e) I went through different fourms and didn't really find my answer so I decided to write the exact question which is it word upgrading ... my battery has gotten worse though . i highly recommend Going to 1.83. The 1.83 radio is different from the telstra, i had the hot phone and battery issue running it like everyone else. 1.83 Does fix bugs in the system with the screen and a few other tweaks to enhance interaction, I am on 1.83 OTA and phone is cold as ice and my battery last me almost a full day with normal use that is. Might as well get the legit update, an update in future may conflict with the telstra radio. Telstra 1.77.17, 1.83OTA & SBF radio- 1.77.15
Thank u so much I guess ill have to erase my phone all over again and go back to 1.26 and then 157 then 183 right?

Back to 1.26, then OTA back up to 1.83 then Gingerblur 3.1 if your looking for a pseudo rom. I haven't seen greyblur for 1.83 yet. Im sure its in the works though. ive used them both but i am getting tired of flashing back to 1.26 lol. I think ill wait for the door to the bootloader to be kicked in (if ever) before I put a Rom back on. Im going to give my Atrix Hardware a breather for a while I think.

Here are the steps I had to use being on 1.5.7 with GingerBlur:
Here is what you'll need after backing up your apps/files to the SD Card, in this order:
Download RSD Lite 5.0
Download 1.8.3 sbf
Gingerbreak
GladEnable
Tenwar's System Recovery
GreyBlur 2.X (Or insert custom ROM here)
1: Flash the 1.8.3 update with RSD Lite on to your phone, this will reset your phone completely to stock.
2: Run GingerBreak to roots the device.
3: At this point I was unable to install Tenwar's, so I used GladEnable to sideload it.
4: Installed Tenwar's and loaded up my custom ROM.
5: Restore your backup.

[Q] - Flashed to GingerBlur, I still get update notifications. What is wrong?

So I rooted my phone about a month ago and didn't bother to do an OTA update. So I didn't think this one through all the way and I am not sure if I actually flashed 1.8.3 onto the phone.
When I look at the phone information the System Version says:
Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US
GingerBlur appears to work just fine...how ever I can't reboot into clockwork recovery mode any more...
I've had good luck with my Captivate but this atrix is proving to be a challenge.
Is their any way that I can flash back and start over? Or am I **** out of luck on this one?
Just found an answer to my problem

I still am not understanding. So did you end up just reflashing? or did you figure a way to turn it off ( I am having the same issue, but can boot into recovery)

Yea I just ended up reflashing all together. Backed up all of my pictures, contacts, etc... and then reflashed the phone to 1.2.6 and OTA updated all the way to 1.8.3
Now to root and flash to gingerblur
Alternatively, you can use TiBU to freeze "updater".

Because I didn't think about that and I figured it was safer to go all the way back.
Well, I ended up doing what you did and just flashed to 1.28 and OTA'd up and now it works fine. So you may have done the better thing anyways... its not like the OTA's take that long.

[Q] Cannot flash sbf to Atrix running Gingerblur

Guys I'm new to the forum but have been messing around with custom pseudo-roms for the Atrix for a little while now. I was running Adeo, then Gingerblur, then Greyblur all without a hitch when I heard about the new OTA update coming to the phone and Gingerbread coming up, so I wanted to go back to any build that would allow me to get the HSUPA update as well as the gingerbread update, but when I went to flash my phone to sbf using rsdlite, it said internal programming fail and nothing else happened. I installed gingerblur over greyblur in an attempt to see if it would flash, but nothing. Have done a factory data wipe, still can't flash. I can't even get into the stock Android Recovery, all that comes up is a triangle and exclamation point. Could someone please help me out here, I'm running gingerblur on a rooted Atrix on 1.5.7 and cannot get it to flash sbf, all I want to do is go back to stock att rom for the coming updates.
Thanks,
BK
Hey,
I have the same exact set up as you. It seems vague in your post if you re-flashed back to 1.26, and that may be why you're getting errors? Every time I update roms, I re-flash to 1.26 using the method in the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
Then I ran Gladroot to unlock, enable sideloading, etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
Downloaded and install the 1.83 update online (not on-air because I didn't get prompted)
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=9098bc50a569f210VgnVCM10000081bbb00aRCRD
I ran the 'afterupdate.bat' on Gladroot after installing the update.
And I now have 2.2.2 / 1.8.3
Thanks bud, what I ended up doing was trying to manually uninstall gingerblur and greyblur and the adeo rom by using scripts etc but it never worked. My phone started acting weird, the home button stopped working, no 3g connectivity, it would say I have superuser but it wouldn't be rooted... something was seriously messed up. I tried to get into the stock android recovery but it wouldn't boot, I think something was corrupted. I knew sbf files rewrite system and boot data, so I went into tenfar's custom recovery (after rooting for the 10th time) and deleted system and boot data, system data was deleted, but boot data had an error. I wiped the caches and all and I tried to sbf flash to 1.8.3 but nothing and the phone bricked. I then tried it on another computer with more memory than mine (mine was running kind of low because of a linux partition) and the flash worked and I'm on 1.8.3. I think I'll wait for official gingerbread and unlocked bootloader in July before I mess with my phone again.

[Q] Few questions before I unlock bootloader, install Ken's GB, etc.

I'm new to the whole modding scene so I have a few questions before I unlock my bootloader, install Ken's Gingerbread, etc.:
- I'm currently on Gingerblur 4.5. To get back to "stock" (which is the starting point in the "[VIDEO] How to upgrade to Gingerbread" thread), I have to find .83 and SBF lite down to it, root, and then follow the video? Or can I just do it now without reverting back to stock (Gingerblur 4.5 does have webtop enabled FYI)?
- How do I make a backup image so if I want to revert back to stock I can easily do this? Is this done via CWM? Or are these backup images easily found in the forums?
- After doing the [VIDEO] thread as mentioned above, if I want to install another custom ROM will I have to do this process all over again or can I just enter CWM, select a .zip, and it will wipe everything and install it?
Thanks for the help.

You might as well flash the 1.83 .sbf just to be safe. You'll be wiping everything when you upgrade to gingerbread anyways.

By "backup" image I assume you mean "method to get back to 1.83". This is easily found in the forums. Infact, here is a link that contains the files needed to go back to 1.83:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009

You won't be "selecting a zip" in cwm, as most of the installing of roms is done in something called "Fastboot", but yes, it is that easy. You will just be going into fastboot and it will wipe everything and install it. You don't go back to 1.83 ever again (unless you want to). You can switch from rom to rom to rom very easily.
Thanks for the help.

I hope this helped. If you need more help feel free to pm me (I just got into the modding scene a few weeks ago, but I've picked it up pretty quickly! )
Thanks a bunch!
Just to followup:
- By backup image I meant if I want to revert back to "stock" Gingerbread (.91). I doubt I'll ever want to flash back to .83 Froyo. Or can this "backup" process be completed using Fastboot and Ken's Gingerbread ROM found on the forums?
Hmm, is this where I find the .83 SBF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
I'm assuming I download the FULL, not the SERVICE??
And why does it say at the top that all are unlocked?

To revert back to stock you simply use fastboot commands with the stock system.img and boot.img files in ken's gingerbread rom found on the forums.
Regarding your 2nd post check pm.
Just chat via pm from now on (unless you want other people to answer of course)

Use tenfar's unlocked CWM.
Cheers!
Testing rit now, report with results as soon as i get the stock love
Flashed without any problem,
factory reset, wiped cashe
installed unlocked bell zip
after reboot red led shows up and phone reboots.
I think i am stuck in boot loop
Now what to do ?
I have managed to get back to Aura ROM
now will try to go back to stock.
Booting Aura rit now (y it is taking forever to boot )
Finally out of CM7
Now trying to go back to stock
Well, not sure what happened there, you can apply the ihop_bell again to see if that fixes it.
Cheers!
I managed to get back to Aura ROM and tried to flash bell 2.2.2 zip and process aborted i think that zip only works with tenfar's unlocked CWM only that managed to fully flash the rom but stucked with boot loop.
Now going to flash Alien rom (personally Aura removes blot and adds his own crap)
Nop bell stock 2.2.2 is giving error in all 3 recoveries
What to do ?
Have you tried fruitcaking?

is it any good ?
Hi,
If you backed up your pds partition, try restoring that. Probably some sbf you tried modified it, changing the signature maybe.
Cheers!
I didn't backed-up any thing (no need of backup)
if u have any then let me have it
Nop dont have any backup, didnt bothered to keep any backup. now i am thinking i was so wrong
Hi,
I just threw that out there, it's the only partition that I don't touch, but sbf files can modify it, since I got my replacement phone I have never used a French/Orange/ATT whatever sbf, so that's probably the difference. My backup is the 2.2.2 Gobstopper really, I also have a pds backup but it's useless for other phones.
Only other idea would be to change the radio first, there are radio only sbfs out there, go for the .15P one for Bell. Once on my previous phone when going from Telstra and French there were issues due to the radio if I recall correctly.
Cheers!
