Good stuff - HTC EVO 3D

I thought this conversation on the Sprint.com public forums with a Sprint rep was pretty funny (found here):
phoenix215476: Can someone please tell me which preinstalled stuff can be deleted and which preinstalled stuff cannot? And how? I had one store rep. tell me everything except Sprint Zone can be deleted, but then another store rep. said there's only three things that can be deleted. And when I tried the phone for myself in the store, I couldn't delete anything.
abe2020: I apologize for any misinformation that was given to you.You cannot delete any Pre-installed content on the phone. The reason why you cannot uninstall the pre-installed applications is because they are installed directly into the Android OS and not on your phone memory card. Sprint doesn’t support any kind of “Rooting” on the phone and it voids manufacture warranty.
phoenix215476: wow, really? what's this all about then?
From Sprint's Twitter account June 23:

HTC EVO 3D fun fact - In response to customer feedback, preloaded apps can be uninstalled
http://bit.ly/j8uf7S #AndroidUnlimited
abe2020: I checked on the HTC Evo 3d phone in our lab, some of the program’s (Sprint Apps-Nascar/Sprint TV etc) can be uninstalled and some of them you cannot.
phoenix215476: Some can and some cannot, just like I said in the beginning... sooooo, back to my originial question... does anyone know which ones can be deleted and which cannot? And how? Thanks.
abe2020: You’ve to go to all Applications-menu-remove app-tap on remove app- tap on all. Find the app that you want to uninstall/remove and check if there is a link to uninstall the App.
phoenix215476: Mmk. Thanks. This was like going to the dentist.

Purchase Cancelled - Cannot be installed in your country....grrrr

grrrrr.....can someone please help!!! I have seen multiple posts about this and I cannot believe there is not a long term fix.
Background
I have a GT 10.1 purchased from the USA...wifi only. I currently live in China. I have a Google account setup with a US credit card. I am using a VPN which gives a Utah IP address. I still cannot see most paid apps in Marketplace nor download and install many. I have many friends with iPads that do not have this restriction but I desperately want to stay with Android, but cannot believe Google has made this so frustrating.
Non-solution
Please do not recommend MarketEnabler. This app may work fine for some units if they have a radio but it does not work for wifi only devices.
Solution
I am able to get it to work following these instructions, but I have to do this every time and it is a pain....there has to be some setting or program that will make this easier. Can anyone please help me and the multitude of others that post about this same thing? There has to be some setting in build.prop or something that is controlling this. Thank you in advance.
1) Go into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. Find Market and force stop it then clear cache.
2) Go into Settings>Accounts and sync and remove all of your google accounts. (I have not always had to perform this step but often it is required for some reason. Don't worry they are easy to add back and nothing gets deleted.)
3) Connect to a USA VPN.
4) Add back your main Google account that has an associated US credit card.
5) Open Market place and when you do you will have to agree to the terms and conditions again. Accept this. At this point you should be able to find and download most of those apps that you could not previously.
6) Now you can add back in all of your other Google accounts if you have more.
Please someone help us....there has to be an easier way!
Sorry to bother, but can anyone recommend a better way around this? Thank you.

There are no solution for this. They are too stupid for this, too busy acquiring companies.
You realize that its not that hard to download the said application's apk and installing them directly to the tablet.

Sorry but this is the problem....I know it is easy to sideload an application but the problem is that they cannot even be downloaded from the website. When I go to the Market from a PC it shows my tablet but it is greyed out and I am not able to just download the apk.

I believe he means sideloaded as in from different places on the internet. Have you tried the Amazon App Store?

If you have a SIM card from another country (your home country maybe?) , switch that into your SIM slot after removing you China Mobile/China Unicom SIM. Then you install the app with the foreign country SIM and once done, put in your China SIM once again
Source: I regularly do this to my HTC Desire and wife's Galaxy S2 and we live in China.
However, if you do not have SIM from another country, you're SOL. If you find out another way to do this, please let me know as well with the Note 10.1

[Q] Does google goggles work for you guys?

I remember being able to use it not so long ago... But after I updated to that new leaked rom, I never bothered since. I just found out they got a huge update, and went to try and get it from the market, and it said it was not available for my device. The device is named on the market as "Rogers Wireless HTC HTC X515m"
Any help on how to get it working would be appreciated, I really like that app.

Google goggles version 1.6 is available for my Sprint EVO 3D via the Android Market. Not sure which version of Google goggles you're looking for but according to the Android Market on my device the latest version is 1.6.
From experience, I know the Android Market lists the EVO 3D from Sprint and the "other" EVO 3D as separate devices allowing developers to pick and chose which devices are supported by their applications.
Without any detail, it is hard to say for sure why it isn't available for your device. A simple bypass method would be somebody could upload the Google goggles .apk file and you can manually load. Of course, you'd need to be prepared to trouble shoot and I'd recommend making a backup first. Never know what conflict or issue loading an application on an unsupported device might cause.
Hope that helps!
Thanks. I guess i'll have to look into the APK or switch roms :S.
I really like the rom though so i doubt il switch it. But yeah, Thanks!

If you were interested in applying a "hack" .. the android market uses the build device information found in build.prop to determine the type of device.
If you swapped out your current information with the information from the Sprint EVO 3D, the market should detect your device as the Sprint EVO 3D and allow you to download the apk.
I don't think that is the best way to approach it and personally I would side load the .apk before I modified the build.prop.
Either way, figured I'd mention the possibility so you're aware of the different avenues/options available! Hope that helps!

Thanks though

[Q] Groove IP removed from Market?

Hi people,
Can anyone confirm if Groove IP is removed from Market?
Maybe is set for US only? I was able to view 5 hours ago
Tried a VPN.. still nothing
oops.. Should I've posted this in QA? ._.
Thats odd, its gone and I am US. Did Google not like their voice service being used for this? They are usually pretty open with apps. It is still available on the Amazon app store. If it was freeware I would post an apk from Titanium.
Gone for me as well . I forgot to do another backup and went to redownload my apps. Only one not there. Wonder what happened...
I was thinking of buying it (and damn I missed the promotion..), but I got the apk to test it out.. thanks anyway
yea.. it's weird
I thought it could have been removed by the dev, but the amazon's version is still there
like you said.. google is pretty open with this and Groove IP has been on Market for a while.. 1 year?
I just emailed the dev and got an automated response. They're looking into it. Sales got suspended or something.

Still not too sure what happened. Was out for dinner and noticed an email from the android market. Basically an automated email saying that sales were being suspended. Still haven't heard back from the market support, they don't really have a good way for developer contact. The app doesn't violate any of Google's terms or any licenses and we've been on sale for almost a year. Not sure what the issue is.
I'm actually pretty upset about it. GrooVe IP was #1 in paid communication apps and in the top 50 of all paid apps. You'd think if they had found some issue they'd send us a notice or something. Hopefully it's just a mistake. Either way the app is still available from the Amazon app store and we've posted the latest android market version on our facebook page for those who purchased from the android market.
hopefully it will return to the market
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

Moving to Q&A
Arrggghhhhh!!!! I finally go buy a Galaxy Player yesterday and today the market decides to freak out on GrooVe IP?
The Amazon Appstore is not an option. I'm tired of their lunatic appstore constantly trying to hijack my Market apps and I'm tired of the appstore never having the updated version of apps I want. They only have version 1.2.16 of GrooVe IP while a newer version is supposed to be on the Market.
Maybe one of the carriers didn't like it all of a sudden? That wouldn't be new.
Still no answer to this but Groove IP's facebook page says they got an email from Google saying the app has been suspended. You can follow the latest from their facebook page:
www[dot]facebook[dot]com/pages/GrooVe-IP/118608074886558?sk=wall
(I have less than 8 posts so it wouldn't let me post a url -- so just replace [dot] with . )
Should be back on the Market now.

Media Hub on ICS?

Upgraded to task's ICS a few weeks ago. Could have sworn Media Hub was on there when I first installed it. Then it seems about a week ago that I was missing an app because the others were not in the same place they used to be, as if I hadn't deleted an app and everything moved over one spot. Problem is, I don't remember deleting anything. Granted, I'm not always SOBER when I'm using my Tab so I guess it's possible. All I can find through search is that you needed to be updated to ICS in order to use Media Hub after that. I was already on ICS so I don't understand what happened? Could Samsung or Google have had it removed from my Tab somehow? Any help would be appreciated, Samsung live chat is of NO help. Shocker.
And according to Samsung, the "Samsung Media Hub" app is not a "Samsung" app, I need to contact the developer! lol Their only solution is to reset my tab. Yeah right.
Gotta love customer service these days. Thought I'd share this clip from Samsung live chat.
Tony: I just find it weird to have an app that is preloaded, yet you can't delete it, and you can't download it either.
Parkin: I understand your concern. I have documented your issue and we will get back to you with proper resolution. Please make a note of the ticket number ************
Parkin: Just to inform you, a preloaded app need not be downloaded as it is already available in the tab..
Tony: So why have the app in the Google Play Store, if nobody can download it?
Parkin: That is meant for people who don't have it preloaded.
Tony: why would someone not have it preloaded, if it comes preloaded?
Tony: because you certainly can't delete it
Parkin: I understand your confusion. But one of our supervisors would be able to clarify any further questions you have. Please mention the ticket ID given above when we contact you.
Tony: You seem to be the confused one because you have no answer.
Parkin: I'm truly sorry I couldn't help you with this issue. Is there anything else I can help you with?
Tony: nope
Ahhhhhh.... I really hope someone can be able to help me with this. Fingers crossed!

[Q] 4.0 Talk apk - sort everyone by availability

EDIT: ANSWERED. See Reply #2.
I can't take this anymore. I've hated it since the day I upgraded to 4.0, but I can't take it anymore.
Google decided that nobody wants to view all buddies and sort by availability at the same time. Apparently, they've never met anyone with a huge buddy list.
How do I make the ICS Talk app sort ALL buddies by availability, not just my most frequently contacted ones? And if I can't, is the 4.1 or 4.2 version capable? If not, will replacing it with the GB Talk.apk do any harm?
Thanks, guys. Google royally screwed up on this one.

I don't know how to make it sort the buddy list the way you want, but you can try reinstalling the gingerbread version (Just make sure you make a nandroid backup first so you can easily fix things if anything goes wrong).
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Ohh, thank you, God. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to rooting the Droid 4. I figured it out.
To make Talk.apk sort *everyone* by availability, not just the most popular contacts:
Open Settings -> Apps -> All -> Talk and hit "Force Stop"
Open a root terminal on your device.
cd /data/data/com.google.android.talk/shared_prefs/
edit BuddyListCombo.xml in your preferred root-capable text editor. I used the busybox "vi", but if others exist, feel free to use them.
change the value for "gtalk-view-mode" to 1
change the value for "gtalk-sort-mode" to 0
save file and exit
You should now be able to bring up Talk.apk and see all contacts sorted by availability.
WARNING: DO NOT bring up the "View Options" settings within the app after doing this. Because you can't sort this way from the GUI, anything you do will overwrite the file with one of the three options available in that GUI. You'll have to do this all over again.
Edit: Typo correction
Edit 2: make instructions more generic
