Yes, and eventually I'm sure we will (answers to both questions).
It's an impressive phone. It's noticeably faster than the 4G. It has a lot of bugs in the software right now.

The camera button and slider drive me nuts......it doesn't feel good in hand like EVO 4G but i guess you get used to it. I think I hate the charger port/hdmi being on the side the MOST. I wish it was at the bottom, I get annoyed using it while on charger LOL. What puzzles me is the evo was "almost" perfect in design and I feel like they took a step backwards.

Definitly worth the upgrade, the phone feels a lot well built...solid and the speed alone added with Sense 3.0 make it al that much better. For $50-75 this is hell of an upgrade...don't think just upgrade.
yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!!!!
The build quality is quite good. I like the camera button. Charge port is fine on the side.

Absolutely yes. Especially if you're one of those out there like myself who has sprint premier and gets a a new discounted phone this year as well. I traded in my Evo 4G for the Evo 3D and regardless of the 3D function the phone itself is leaps and bounds faster than my 4G. So basically for an extra $100 to unload your older 4G for a newer 3D if you're in that position with your contract then is a great deal.
Root will come.
The phone is definitely worth the upgrade. Compared to a stock 4g, the 3d is a lot snappier and I get better battery life. I do miss things like the kickstand and my seidio 3500mah battery. I really think that once development starts with this phone, it's going to be crazy. I don't think the design of the phone is better or worse than the original evo, but it is different. I always try to plug in my charger at the bottom because I'm so used to the 4g. Just takes some time to get used to.

i love it too. a little bummed out by the hboot 1.5 crap but it's easy enough to work around. the phone screams and looks amazing. and the camera is quite nice. don't let the fact that is' 5MP fool you. still gives great shots. and the 3D is really just like a cherry on top. fun to play around with but easy to turn off.
I love my EVO 3D too...
I like my Evo 3d, but just to be completely honest, I miss my Nexus S 4G. I actually bought a ns4g yesterday from the marketplace here on xda. I also bought 2 off eBay. Not sure if I will still keep the 3d, but I will definitely be keeping one of the ns4g. 2 are broken, so they are projects.

Thank you HTC..
I have to agree I like the Evo 3D , even in stock form it performs very well . HTC does make a good product (atleast my expierence with them) . Even with me moving to carriers shortly (possible new job will relocate me to a Verizon area , no sprint service) I will probably go with the HTC Rezound . Motorola just isnt doing it for me from what I see and the Droid Prime , well it has ICS but eh . New carrier but sticking with HTC .

I really dig the Photon and the SGSII is nice as well. But for me, Sense is where it's at. Plus the Dev support is fantastic and exceeds that of the Sammy and MoPho in my opinion.
I had the opportunity to go Photon or Evo3D. Went Evo3D. No regrets. The community really ha made this phone a beast. Before root, I must admit I missed my Evo4G... Not anymore. 3D is neat, but ultimately a gimmick in my humble opinion. The dial cores are fast. I'm running Eternity on mine and it is buttery smooth. To the battery issue.... I chew through them. SIMPLE and CHEAP solution. Ebay up a set of 3 spare batteries and a battery charger for $20. Cha ching!

Sarcasm? lol Play w/ it for a good long while and choose from there. I'm still thinking of trading in my Evo 3D for an Epic Touch 4G... but I have heard nothing but problems from peeps on these forums regarding said device. LOS; cheap build quality; software issues after root, etc. BUT I have also heard nothing but good things about the screen/camera/phone's fluidity.
I've played w/ the ET a couple of times... I've never had any issues w/ it at all while handling it and the fact that the phone FEELS so much smoother than the Evo 3D really makes me want to make the switch.
Anyway, the Photon beats them both for phone stability and build quality but the interface is very bogged down/laggy and the dev support is pretty damn scarce.
Make the right decision. :3
I figure the battery is the same as epic touch which is bad so I would go have look for quality and I know the evo3d has some weight to it which is fine with me epic touch looks like its poor quality any thoughts

Really depends on what ur coming from. I mean its a bad ass phone for sure but I think I could have been just as happy sticking with my 4G EVO. I love my 3d don't get me wrong. It's fast and reliable for sure. The 3d feature is cool at first but i don't really find any real use for it. Definately love it but think about this too, LTE phones should be coming out one after another starting next year. Depending on what u got now maybe u should wait and see what's new in the first quarter.

If you've held out on upgrading this long, I'd go ahead and wait for Sprint to start releasing LTE devices next year. That would suck if you upgraded now, right before the end of the year and in 6 months LTE devices come out and Sprint's new LTE network starting to become operational, and you're stuck with a WiMAX phone for 2 years.

After only owning this phone I hated it, I'm on it too much .I use over 1.3gb on 3g and I cant stop looking at YouTube videos, want to know more and more about it by Googling ... Gs3 is about to come out and even tho I don't have it I don't feel like I need too , a lot people is trying to return their phone cause another is coming out... I'm going to have to agree with the OP. I have the same problem. I can't put the thing down. The screen is very nice and vibrant. I even put Fast Five on it the other day and have watched it about 3 times with the beautiful 720p screen and Beats audio using my Skullcandy 50/50s. There are people out there who are truly disappointed in the phone, and that can be their opinion. This should be the EVO 4G LTE lover's thread.
I too can't put the thing down. Screen is beautiful.
ok I agree totally. I mean I was glued to my old Epic but the screen on this thing is so sharp I actually started to read books on it.
my buddy is waiting for the gs3 but I think the screen on this phone is the top selling point.
I'm typing this while watching the video from Conan. Doesn't get much better for me. I agree 100%. We always want more, so the issue is accepting what we have and not getting upset at what we don't. I'm making a stand against my ego and accepting this device as what I need and adjusting to it. This thing is awesome as is and any shortcomings are way better than the razor I had just a few years ago. And the support from this community will only unlock more of its potential for us.

Something I want to add:
I am extremely anal about dead pixels. Not because I expect a display to be 'perfect' but because of my personal ocd issues. They bug the hell out of me. I had one on my Evo3D and it annoyed me EVERY time I turned it on.
On this phone I have a dead on at the top and then two stuck ones. I don't notice them. Unless I get half an inch away from the screen I don't even know they're there. That's how awesome the screen is. You simply can't tell pixels apart from your normal viewing distance. Hell I could probably have more dead pixels and not know it. You even might. The thing is, the only way you'll know is if you get extremely upclose, turn the brightness all the way up and search pixel by pixel.
That's the only "con" I have against this device and as you can see it isn't even a con. Hands down the best piece of hardware I've ever owned.

Absolutely. My only beef with the Evo is its size (I have relatively small hands), but Nexus is about the same anyway. Actually had to get a small case for the evo to make it thicker though.
Runs great, very good phone call clarity, display is visible even in the sun (when turned up to 100%). At night on darkest setting it's still not too bright, even as a bedside alarm clock.
Yes, this phone has exceeded my expectations.. its super fast, they have finally made the hardware meet the demands of the software, only downside is that the SGIII comes with 2GB of ram, this would have made the evo even better.. but it hasnt slowed down yet.. i love it

The Phone is Super!!! Once the LTE is up and running and Google fix the Wallet issue the phone is the best!
There's one thing holding me back from getting the EVO 4G LTE and that's MIUI! I was wondering if anyone has tried the MIUI home launcher yet? I may just get it still I just want something a little more fast than the Ol OG EVO.
They are working on miui search development thread
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using xda premium
I had the original EVO, and I was really hesitant to take the step to LTE but I love it. The screen is just beautiful. Had to get used to the size, but that was an easy adjustment.
There are of course still a few hiccups, but they are excusable. Personally, the changes they made make the phone feel more professional and efficient, which was a big reason I disliked Sense before. You can access quick apps from the homescreen without having to mod; the quicklaunch is super, too. I'm not sure what exactly makes this one so much greater than any other phone currently available, but I've never regretted the decision.

Honestly I hated the first EVO traded it back to sprint for a epic that's when the 2 phones first came out. Then I went to the EVO 3D it was fun but then I switched to the epic 4g touch for about 4 months loved that phone so nice. BUT THEN this came out so I got it and since day 1 I absolutely love this phone omg I will never go back to a galaxy not even the 2gb of ram on the s3 phases me LOL
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm leaning toward the Evo over the SGSIII for a few reasons: SGSIII has a home button which I think throws off the design, the color options are not that great, and the use of touch wiz. Although the use of custom roms can remedy the touch wiz issue, it won't resolve the latter. HTC on the other hand, kept it professional looking, has no on screen physical buttons, and uses Sense. If I do get this device, it's getting rooted and romed right out the box.
The phone looks great, the hardware is amazing, but the signal is utter crap.
I've tried stock and multiple ROMs and no matter what I do, I have either a signal <-100 dbm or a data lock. It's insanely frustrating. I also can't get it to actually go into roaming exclusively, whether I use the Roaming options mod here at XDA or the Roam Control app (both used after rooting.)
If you have solid Sprint service in your area, no question that you should give this phone a shot. If you go anywhere that your signal is less than 3 bars, try it out for a few days, see if you'll actually have a signal.
