I am trying to update SGSII from KE2 to KE7, but both KIES and OTA checker report that I'm running the latest version.
My full firmware code is this: PDA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD4 (COA)
Build no. GINGERBREAD.XWKE2
Is there a way to make KIES recognize the latest firmware and apply it?
have you tired changing the REGION code
Hi not sure this will help . but using the samsung code, *#272* OEM#
I Believe that you can change the region code and those maybe get a more updated version.. if it is ready for your part of the world/ Hope this might help you
I am not sure as to if this is answering your question in full, I also had the same problem as you with going from a firmware and then not seeing an updated version which i knew was out. So that is what I did and it worked great. i am in Sweden so i set mine Regional code to NEE.. and it worked in kies..
good luck!
OEM is your tel serial or imie #: you can find by touching the keys in the dialer, *#06#
Thanks for the tip, but I don't know what region I would set. Also I don't know what's the phones current region setting. I'm from Serbia, but the phone was imported from Samsung Romania (we share a border so I guess we are in the same region).
I'm also "stuck" in KE2 here in Portugal:
PDA: XWKE2
PHONE: XXKDJ
CSC: OXXKE2 (TPH)
Kies shows no updates available...
Well, apart from the region code, we have the same firmware. Looks like I'm going to give Odin a try.
Just got this phone and I didn't want to start hacking away like I did with my poor old Motorola Milestone. Unfortunatly, Android always makes me wanna mess with firmware for one reason or other.
Guess I'll wait for 2.3.4 before having a go at Odin.
So far I'm not happy at all with Samsung's firmware update policy. The phone is still the same, regardless I bought it in Portugal, Italy, UK, whatever... So why does this happen?

I really have no idea, especially since it's not carrier locked.
Samsung release firmware to the network/phone providers .
They then update it or not and upload to Kies .
If your phones Product code etc matches a later firmware on Kies you get an update .
Product code defines update .

Hi,
I'm desperately looking for the stock firmware that came with my phone that I got from Virgin UK back in Novemeber 2011 as I foolishly flashed the Non-UK ICS the other day without making a note of the revision I already had.Kies then didn't recognise my phone. I've installed a CPW (Carphone Warehouse) ROM for now as I know it supports the Virgin network but I know for a fact that wasn't the same one that was originally on the phone. As when it was connected to Kies, I specifically remember there was a lot of X's in the string displayed as well as an XEU at the end (I think). The CPW ROM string doesn't have either. Basically I believe I had some sort of unbranded UK firmware that was also supported by Kies for future downloads but when looking on FUS I can't find anything from the UK except branded fimware and the CPW one.
I've learnt my lesson but would really like my phone back to it's original state before the official UK ICS update becomes available on Monday. So if anybody currently has a unmodified Virgin Mobile from around that time could they please point me in the right direction in terms of the Gingerbread version revision number they currently have?
Thanks in advance guys. I'm new so please have a little patience.
You can use the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google) to determine what firmware came with your phone, then search for same on Samfirmware.com.
Thanks. But as I said, I've already tried searching on FUS. And can't seem to find any of the ones I'm looking for. Also all the Intratech links on the sister thread don't seem to be working anymore. Almost as if the site Multiupload.com has been shut down?
I'm ideally looking for firmwares such as these:
PDA: I9100XWKF3,
PHONE: I9100XXKE7,
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
PDA: I9100XWKI4
PHONE: I9100XXKI1
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Why these? Because I now know these are what come with Virgin UK contracted phones from around the same time. I finally only found this out a few minutes ago via a Virgin Media forum and seeing what people where posting. And if I'm 100% honest, it's the bottom one that's looking the more "familiar" to me before I started messing with my phone.
Again, thatnks for any help offered. Much appreciated.
Re-read the last 7 words of my post Actually, read the whole thing again. Particular emphasis on the last 7 words.
A simple method would be to wait for Virgin to update the firmware and download via Checkfus .
I doubt if the ICS upgrade on Monday will be any roms bar stock .
In which case even with original firmware Kies has no update for you .

This is original virgin mobile information which i saved before messing around with ics roms. My galaxy S2 is only 3 months old from virgin here in he uk!
Hope It Helps!

Thanks MistahBungle. I have and niether of those packages are listed on the site. JJ yeah I've got the same feeling to be honest. It seems to be the generic European firmware that I had the same as Ezy's. I actuallyy think I've installed this a couple of times via FUS and Odin but always seem to get the "your device cannot update from Kies" message though. Strange as I never had it when it was originally installed. Just "this is the latest firmware". Chaotic! lol
Update: It's worked! I installed Ezy's XEU one last time. I forgot to do a cache wipe before and aftewards on previous tries. It's back to it's original state and no upgrade error message in Kies. Thanks again for helping me out guys.
So JJ, come Monday when UK ICS gets released you recommend not downloading it from anywhere and waiting about 6 months for Virgin to get there act together?

Personally i would not bother as long as i had a copy of old Virgin firmware in case of warranty . I would just install a stock UK firmware with CPW CSC if possible once UK ICS is released if i was of a mind to go down the ICS route .

Ok thanks. I'll bare that in mind as I don't intend to go through all of this ever again. :-\

So glad i found this post as I lost my original backup. Downloaded the stock firmware just in case its needed. So thanks.
Hi
I've been jailbreaking iphones since they came out but have switched to android now so I'm a noob again!
I bought a new S2 on ebay (sealed) but I'm not sure it's standard UK, I've attached 2 screen grabs.
Could someone please tell me if my phone is rooted? (the [email protected] is what got me thinking)
In case attachments don't work:
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKH1-CL431225 [email protected] #2
Also:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
And is it possible for me to ugrade to ICS?
I've tried researching here and other websites. Odin is clearly the way to go and I see lots of XXK** and other 5 digit codes which i guess are region/Firmware specific but mine don't seem to match any of these??
Any help much appreciated.
Pretty standard stuff. XEU stands for UK Unbranded. Firmware is an old one though. Follow links in my signature to proceed. ICS has been released though we are still waiting for a unbranded UK version. Enjoy.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Dell is the name of the system on which this kernel was made. It is currently not rooted.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Yeah, Linux formats things as "username"@"computer". Samsung just compile their kernels logged in as root.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I looks like you have a standard build.
If you really want to check whether your phone is rooted or not, try downloading the "superuser" app from the market (sorry, "Google Play").
If your phone isn't rooted, it'll tell you.

I have been reading in various places that XEU is a Polish version, is that correct? I'm a bit confused as to whether I have UK or Polish version - should be looking at XEUKH1 or XEUKH1 ??
Thanks

For the CSC part, you should be looking at I9100 XEU KH1; U+K is just a mere coincidence.
XEU is the code of the operator or the code of the "unbranded operator" - in my case I use "TPH" which is the unbranded csc for Portugal.
As for the token KH1:
K stands for the year - 2011 (ICS builds are from 2012 so they're L??)
H stands for the month - 11 or Nov (ICS builds have now been following this, though - e.g. LPQ, LP3, ...)
1 is an incremental number for multiple builds in the same month (also, sometimes letters are used)
Thanks.
So with these in mind for my phone:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
PDA - shows I am using Android version 2.3.4
PHONE - shows I have a phone designed to be used in the UK (XXKG5)??
CSC - shows I have an unbranded european phone??
Is that correct?
So if I upgrade my firmware to a stock UK one then all that would change above is PDA??
But if I upgraded to the Polish version of ICS how would that affect what *#1234#?
corype use
As far as i understand, installing any stock version minded for an EU phone should be the same. All they change is the language, however english should be present always.
I've got the same ROM images, and although I believe the XEU ICS has been released by Sammy yesterday, I'm (still) getting the "Your device does not support firmware upgrade" message from KIES.
I've done a hard reset of the phone, re-installed KIES with the latest version ( repeated on two PCs )...
Is there something funny about these ROM images?
Bought from Phones4U as an O2 Upgrade.
If I have to zap it using Odin, is there a way to save the existing ROM images?
Hi i've only had one update on my s3 and everyone had like 2-3 one of wich fixed the laucher re-draw... I tried to search for a reason on the forum but I didn't find any.
It's an unbranded i9300
Baseband: i9300ublf2
Build number: IMM76D.I9300UBALF3
thanks for the answers !
It can depend on the country and when your carrier pushes them to their server for update. Or are you rooted with a different Kernel? In that case you will no longer get updates to your phone from the carrier.
If all else fails, meh, don't worry. Just look for an official update release! Use ODIN and flash it to your phone. The country of origin won't matter as long as the rom is for the S3 i9300! I actually find this better.
I'm in canada and only rooted.
My carrier won't send the update since it doesn't carry the phone...
I thought I'd get them directly from Samsung but I guess not,..
If you bought the phone in retail than you'll get the updates directly from Samsung.
However your region is still of importance. Use Odin with http://samfirmware.com and be happy (Flashing Original Rom's does not void your warranty)
Thanks I think i'll have to do that!
I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

Its OK at most bring it down to Samsung service centre and ask them to update your phone to the latest they have. They should be more then happy to help.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm fine with just flashing it with Odin. I was planning to root it anyway. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can before I try.
In an attempt to get Android M on my unbranded Romanian G925F I flashed a 5.1.1 BTU firmware with Odin. While everything went smooth with flashing I noticed my mobile data doesn't work any longer. I get the 4G icon but have no internet access. Wi-Fi works. Beta for Android M is closed so I'd rather return to my previous original firmware.
Out of sheer ignorance I didn't write down the original product code... how should I go about restoring my phone to it's original factory shipped firmware which worked without issues?
Please point me in the right direction, I tried downloading some Romanian firmwares from sammobile but after flashing through Odin my product code is still BTU and mobile data still doesn't work.
Thanks
if you use samsung smartswitch (latest version of kies) it automatic return to 5.1.1.............sorry now i know what you mean look here............http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G925F/

Isn't ORO for Orange branded? I tried Kies 3, entered my phone model, then it asked for a serial number and it downloaded a firmware which proved to be a german DBT one. Mobile data still doesn't work so I will have to try something different.
What if I go to a mobile phone shop, ask to look at an Edge similar to mine and get it's product code and serial number? By providing those to Kies will it enable me to get the same firmware as the one running on the shop phone?
