Can someone point me to a 1.8.3 zip that I can flash using tenfar's new recovery? Just to have when it's official upgrade time.

Try this ------->
4.1.83
I think it would be better to just use an SBF to downgrade. Less bugs that way.

Gee, thanks man. That was great. You, sir, are a tool. This is the Q&A forum. No harm in my post here. It would be one thing if it were the dev forum or something but there's no need to be a douche in here.

Probably right. Just wondered if there was a way with out hooking up to the laptop.

If I remember correct, the 1.83 sbf does not wipes the data from the device, so flashing it wont be enough, and flashing the 1.57 or lower is needed.
But there is a good chance I'm wrong...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15218352 has a full 1.8.3 sbf so no need to use an older one

this might belong in q&a, but do you have tenfar's cwm yet?
No I don't have root yet.

you don't need root to flash tenfars cwm, you just need an unlocked bootloader.

did you try searching? maybe a search. searches work good.
Also definitely needs to be in the Q&A forum. Basically if the header of the thread ends in a question it doesn't belong in this forum.
Such as "Root in 4.5.91 stock?"
Hell, you could probably even ask it in the General forum as people would be more warm and fuzzy there as well. I realize I'm propagating this thread to the top of the list in the forum, but these questions really irk me. I've said this before, but it'd be sweet if there was some way to automagicaly move threads that end in a question to the Q&A forum.
Check the dev forums. The preinstall method will get you root then there is a tether thread that tells you what file to edit to get the mobile hotspot working.

I had unlocked my bootloader previously and had kens safe 4.5.91 upgrade. Then sbf back to 1.83 so I could get the official upgrade. I did the ota update and then used the preinstall method to root and sqlite to enable tethering. Everything is working perfect!!! Still have to try my webtop stuff but loving the phone and new stuff alot! Battery has been great so far..

i bought my atrix off of ebay, rooted and unlocked the bootloader, then messed up with gingerblur. maybe it was because i had the lastest updates installed on the atrix?

You were supposed to flash through the system recovery app's recovery, but anyways back to your question. If you follow directions on how to do things im sure you'll be fine off, as of now the only way to hardbrick is to sbf back when you have the ota installed,

Are you sure that your old atrix is hardbricked? Sounds like it would be more of a softbrick unless your old atrix had Gingerbread. Eitherway, it sounds fixable.

i'm unable to root it for some reason. tried cmd method as well as superoneclick... don't know what else to do
I was cruising around doing some reading today and found a thread where someone had managed to pull the stock recovery out of an SBF file and replace it with Clockwork. They even made a "recovery only" sbf file and successfully installed it on their phone.
So from what I can gather, this would allow people to flash ROMs, themes, etc. without having to unlock and install a new recovery? You would have Clockwork with a locked bootloader?
Someone shed some light on this for me, please.
I think the bootloader still needs to be unlocked because of the signature verification.

Not so much signature validation, because that is a function of the recovery - but unlocking the partitions to be written too.

I think I understand now, thanks. I was under the assumption that since Motorola are technically the only ones who are creating the sbf files, that they would be trusted by the devices to do as they please. Again, I am just learning here so thanks for whatever info comes about on this.
If anyone is at all interested in the thread I stumbled upon:

^^ there it is. It's dated, but I thought it might hold some ideas(?)
This was done in a way back with the moment. Could use the manufacturers flash tool and flash rooted and unlocked stock based roms

Odin, and still the best way to mod imo
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Yeah, I realize it was a bit dated but it seemed like a good way to do things. I would like to see even simple things like deodexed stuff in sbf, but it's not sounding like it's that simple.
Okay, quick question. I've made a back up in CWM recovery. (Unlocked, Rooted yada yada) If I RSD the 154 SBF can I flash back recovery? It's home base ROM or would I need to reflash it? Thanks.

I think if you flash any SBF, you'll lose CWM...So you'll probably need to unlock and reflash CWM afterward.
Yeah. I did that . Knew I would have to. I also found running home base with alien theme and doing a restore after sbf I got some fc's and no service. So unless I missed something this isn't possible with the setup I'm running.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Ahhh that sucks...so you tried updating to the latest sbf and then unlocked and flashed cwm and then tried restoring? Sorry if im confused...but I think because home base was based on an older build it probably wouldn't work..just a guess...
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Tried it from the 198_7 and the 154_5 builds both failed. And yes you got it.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I remember asking qbking a similar question about alien...he said if I tried updating phone and then tried to flash alien rom there would be problems. I didn't ask for details, and can't be sure what the issues are...did u just want to keep over clock?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I wanted to keep the theme. It wouldn't work with 198_7.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
You can flash the de-odexed 198_7 stock based rom and run alien theme over it, cant you?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Tried that. Force close issues
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Damn...yeah..well I wish I knew how to theme...i might read up tomorrow..it seems like such a lame thing, but I guess I really liked the menus and the dialer..the blacked out look was sick...this stock blue dialer makes me want to yack.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
That is why I am on home base with the Alien theme. I like it. I agree though. The black and green is sweet.

What roms can be flashed from bootstrap? Not sure I want to unlock my bootloader and lose 4g. Looking for a stable rom with working Bluetooth and better battery life than stock.
Thanks
Check out skinny4g.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Do you have to be at 198_7 to use that ROM?
Yes...I believe all ofjokers roms are based on 198_7.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
What does 198_7 mean? I'm on the stock updated rom. All I have done is root. I was gonna do bootstrap and then flash a rom. Is there something else I need to do before flashing skinny4g?
198_7 is one of the current stock builds...you need to flash using rsdlite to take you to a stock ROM.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202666
So I would have to do all of that before I can even flash a rom...is it the same if I unlock the bootloader?
You flash the unlock sbf , root your phone, flash cwm recovery thru fastboot, and then you can install a custom rom. I would recommend reading more in the development section and watching the qbking77 videos.
Also, since you want to keep 4g, you don't need to do any of that. You just need bootstrap to flash the skinny4g rom.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
So I don't have to do the 198_7 sbf first in order to get skinny4g? Sorry to ask so many questions. It wasn't this difficult on the evo4g. Just very confused and can't really find the answers.

You need to be on 198_7. But you don't need to unlock, install CWM, root, flash rom...all you need to do is flash the SBF, root, install bootstrap if you haven't, and then flash the skinny4g rom.
Edit: you don't need to be on 198_7 to flash skinny 4g...my bad.. I thought it was necessary as Alien was based on 154_5, and didn't work on other builds. All good though..
Ok thanks. So if I already rooted I need to sbf then root again and flash bootstrap. Then flash rom. Got it

Yup...just install the bootstrap.apk and you'll be good to go.
Ok now the sbf file that is in that link doesn't work. Is there a different one in that thread that works?
