Stable Gingerbread ROM with Sense:

Stable Gingerbread ROM (CyanogenMod 7):

Stable Froyo ROM (CyanogenMod 6):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784689&highlight=clean+rom

you may also try villainrom 13. the best rom as far as 2.1 version is concerned.

Hey ahmararif,
why don't you just start with a random rom you can choose from the dev-area?
This is one of the benefits of xda-developers-forum. You got a lot of options and can choose the one which fits perfect for your needs.
I tried some of them in the last couple days and finaly arrived at this one here:

Maybe it's interesting for you too ...
Have fun trying out!

From my experience Froydvillian is very stable for day to day use. I always try the new gingerbread rom's but find myself coming back to this one.

Root your phone and then flash a rom from the development section

Already rooted and installed many roms but cant find a day to day use-able rom

where i can find clock skin like this

I've tested Elelinux. Pros: has good functionalities, simple interface and working app2sd (it's Android 2.2). Cons: it's laggy, full of force closes.
Now I'm using RCMix 2.2b. Pros: Sense interface, far less bugs than Elelinux. Cons: I cannot make it work with app2sd (as I mention here).

Hey Stickman, where do you post your roms now adays then??

I run my own website www.htcdevscene.co.uk , tis a bit quiet atm because I updated our boards and couldn't reimport our old members tables into the SQL without it screwing up. Currently creating a new rom for the DesireHD called cloud:UI. Will hopefully be completed by the end of the month.

Up to You
Energy Roms are quite popular (Including CHT)
Dutty's creme de la creme is also quite popular.
Just look in the ROM development thread.
Most Roms are quite stable lately, and it is really a matter of taste, what you need/want/do not want vs= what's coocked in,
Also do you want new WM6.5 (large icon on bottom), or original (Icon on top)?
Need a special language, or is WWE good enough?
Really it is difficult to tell someone which Rom is best for them.
I suggest you look yourself. If you see a ROM you like, scroll to the end of the thread to se the remarks/problems of the latest release(s)
If you are interested, perhaps then you could ask for opinions (no absolute truthe here mind you) of those ROM's compared to each other.

Personally, I believe the Energy Roms are nice.
As for installation:
First read this post.
If still unsure look at video tutorial this is very clear.
In short:
Flash HSPL to YOUR DEVICE
FLASH THE APPROPRIATE RADIO ROM as mentioned in the first post (2.7.50 or 2.12.50)
Flash the rom file.
Note: If you have TMOUS phone , do NOT flash 2.xx.51.xx Radio Roms: These Radio Rom will brick your device.
If you do not have TMOUS, then this warning is not valid.
If unsure if you have TMOUS, then do nothing before you are certrain wether you do or do not have a TMOUS phone.

which rom for me

I have just rooted by galaxy s2 using cf root and odin 1.85.
my current firmware is XWKI4, reading through post particularly rooting methds (sroot and cf root), peopple are advised to download firmware which closes matches that of the stock rom, is this correct?
does it matter what kerner (or firmware) the custom rom comes with or does the curtom rom for me has to be xwkI4?
also, phones for my wife so list of most stable rom would be appricated.

No you are fine...You are rooted now so this is were the fun begins. Download a rom that you like and make sure you use recovery to flash it. Before you flash a rom make sure you make a backup of the current one you are on and make sure you back up your applications using Titanium backup. Then go ahead and flash a rom of your choice. Most roms always have a guide in the first page of their thread. Read it carefully and if you have to read it like ten times do so..That way you get a better understanding and at least you know what you are flashing.
Rom there are so many to choose from..Either Checkrom V4 that has a kitchen app or Foxhound. Also if you go in the Android development there are so many other roms there that you can flash...But like i said backup and do your reading first..Happy flashing
thanks for the quick response
I was thinking of trying checkrom or villianrom

Both roms are great. Try them both my friend you are not losing anything..That is the great thing about flashing roms..Try both for a few days and take it from there.
hello,
Well your phone is rooted now, so try what ever rom you like!
Look for the rom that's Best rated (4 or 5 stars).
If you want to stay on ginger, then what you mentioned are good amongst others.
If you like the iPhone look, then Try also the Miui ginger roms, DT Miui ginger is good).
Now if you like to go ICS then I recommandé you the Wanamlite (version 7.2 now), but put in mind that ICS is in 4.0.3 LP2 beta version, therfore still facing some problemes Yet. But it is worth to try.
One big advice though : in All cases, do your backup before, then wipe every thing from the reboot recovery CWM.
I hope this helps.
Best rom for you is the one you test yourself & decide works great for you. A Rom/kernel that works well for me might not work well for you (phone components slightly different, different phone setup, different usage).
Make sure you back up your EFS as well. Best way is with k-tool

It's displayed alongside each thread/ROM in the Development forums. Not sure I'd set too great a store by those though. CheckROM is very reliable.
I wouldn't go anywhere near ICS for your wife - very high maintenance. (The ROM, that is, never met your wife...)

[ROM]iEuropa ROM

Currently it's still in pre-alpha stage and "not'' fit for daily use.
The ROM has been ported from Galaxy Ace(GT-s5830)(by Jusada) and is a cyanogenMOD 7 based ROM originally made for the HTC Desire by the AEDesign Team of China. The ROM is an exact replica of Apple's iOS with all its visual features.

Why would you use Roms like that when you have AOKP iOS theme?

[Q] matching rom and kernel - important or not?

Ok noob-ish question...
I have a Galaxy Tab S2 GT-I9100 running gingerbread 2.3.3 (VillainRom 1.4.0) and a non-stock kernel after deciding to be brave and update from 2.2 to 2.3. I've decided to use ICS in the form of the codename android version but, so far, I've not found a good recommendation for which kernel to run with it - I don't even know if it makes a lot of difference/is critical/or what as I'm still only learning about flashing roms, etc.. Matr1x kernel along with codename android seemed to be recommended but that was on a Samsung Note not a Galaxy S2 - does it matter?
NB. I have rooted this phone and installed CWM if that helps.
Can anyone advise me please (with links, if possible)
Thanks, Mark
Hey dude,
To make easy, my humble advice is to start with my new tweaked combo : Wanam + AbyssKernel 2.2.
Take a look :
I can easily last 1hour screen on time with 89- 88% left.
AbyssPlug gov + Noop
Extreme UC UV settings.
Bloatware freezed.

What do you think ? Pretty awesome isn't it ?
Best battery life with really nice performance.
Come on, you should try it..
My two cents.
Thanks for that but as there are so many roms available I really wanted to go with ICS and codename android, at least to start with! I'm not keen on making too many changes and experimenting as I'm only a beginner in this field and the last thing I want to do is make loads of changes and brick it by making a mistake. I certainly appreciate all the effort people like you make and it makes life much easier for the rest of us plebs!
Cheers
Do not mix and match kernels and/or ROM's from other devices. Look under the battery and make sure you have an international GT-I9100 and not a varient such as GT-I9100G.

Definitely the international version
Baseband version - I9100BVKH1
Kernal version - 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKH1-CL438706

The reason I mention the Matr1x kernel is that is was listed as a good combo in a page on "codename android on Galaxy S2" but it then went on about the galaxy nexus S. I didn't know whether they were different phones or the same phone with different names in different markets.
Anyhow I need to know if my existing kernel is good with ICS or if there is a better one to use on this phone.
Cheers all!

I would recommend the ROM in my sig (click on pic). It is AOKP and has lots of features with good support in thread and on OP.

RootRom

I have seen several people asking for old Touch Pro roms recently so I thought I would throw my old ones up.
Will clean this up later.
I no longer have this device and therefore offer little to no support.
Everything works including mms and such. Settings for most cdma carriers built in.
If you like the roms hit thanks.

As I have quit a few different versions to choose from.

Once it loads up you will be presented with DarkRoot pictured here.
Now if you want Max 2.7 click the start menu and scroll down to System Tools.
In that folder you will find a folder called Enable Max.
You will have two things to install there.
1. Max Manila 2.7
2. Ultimate Quicklink Fix.
You can install Max and uninstall max as well.
No need for flashing DarkRoot and then Flashing again to use MaxDarkRoot because this contains both now.
No need to Flash DarkRoot and then search for and install Max Manila 2.7 either.
