Should I apply the new update or should i wait on details about root. The only reason I would do new update is because people claim its helping battery life

Wait for root, I did not notice any battery life improvement with OTA, the battery will get better if you discharge and charge in full cycles do not charge half way
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Wait for root. None of the devs updated. If they achieve root, only for people who didn't update will probably to root for a while. Just be patient.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Personally I did the OTA Updates because I don't think that Root will be achieved until HTC produces the update that removes the Bootloader Encryption. That being said, once the encryption is removed, I believe the root method will not be restricted by the OTA's that have been released. Worst case I would have to wait an extra week for them to fix the root method for the folks who did take the OTA's.
For now, I want to enjoy my phone as much as possible. I want to be able to show off The Green Hornet movie etc to friends. I want the bug fixes.
I also paid and got the Sprint Insurance with the $100 deductible so if I am wrong I can always drop my phone in the toilet and get a new one, but I doubt it will ever come to that.
Update if you like.
Just because the devs are likely not updating does not mean or prove anything. Nothing has been verified that those with OTA updates and those without will vary any differently once root is achieved. HTC made it well known of it's intention to unlock the bootloader before sending out the update.
Personally, I have enjoyed the update...
I saw a notable dif with the ota don't think it will hinder root but every phone is different I guess

I was wondering if the OTA update that the phone prompts you to take when you launch the HTC Watch program is the same OTA that the devs are saying stay away from? Wanted to check out the 3D movie but don't want to screw up my chances of early root by doing it. I'm still on the original H_Boot that the phone shipped with & declined all attempts the phone has made to update itself.

Keep declining unless a 3D movie means more than root to you.
I read on here last night somewhere of a work around to play the 3D Green Hornet without having to accept the OTA update. Is this still possible because I wanted to see what the 3D looks like.

Why not just accept the update? Who's to tell you'll be able to root anyways anytime soon.....i still have hope HTC is unlocking it with ota so why the hell not.

I'll start with the obvious first. In the future, please search first as you even admitted to seeing it before.
As for how, Place the Watch widget on the home screen and use that.

True but if they do get root before HTC decides to give it to us, I don't want to be one of the sorry souls who updated and will have to wait on HTC. Not worth it in my opinion, especially just for the Green Hornet.

I did search but the search function on the Xda app is lacking. As to placing the widget on the homescreen, that was one of the things I did remember from the OP but I'm still getting the prompt to update.

Yes, I took both of them and I'm using wifi tether right now with temp root via free3vo right now. So taking the OTA didn't effect the ability to use the temp root. If you want to watch green hornet you have to take the OTA.
Thanks just did the OTA and I'm able to watch it thanks a lot

The sync icon was on constantly for about the first day or so, for me. It finally finished and only comes on when it's actually syncing now.

Try calling sprint seeing if you can get it solved by them. Maybe they'll credit your account or something.
Movie sucks bad your not missing out in anything , the watch app is floating around here if you dont wanna take the ota
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Sounds like this is a little late since you took the ota to watch the green hornet. The ota is still NOT recommended by the devs cuz HTC could've patched a hole they are hoping to find for perm root. Guess it all depends on your priorities. xHausx says never take ota's so I don't.

if you gave away your 8gb from the evo3d
Now I'm not your average user. I've only owned two android phones: the LG esteem and now the DNA. The Esteem was really a solid phone and the development team really allowed the phone to go above and beyond its limits. Though I loved my Esteem the DNA just blows it out the water in all aspects. I rooted my Esteem because it wasn't as good stock. A phone like this makes me wonder is it even necessary to root because it's already so fast and so smooth.
And that's pretty much my question. As I hold my DNA in my hand I'm wondering if I should go ahead and root or just keep it as stock. What do you guys think?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I've been stuck on stock because I took the ota. But the stock Rom for me has been amazing I'm patiently waiting for the unlock. But it's great maybe one of the first phones I'm really content on stock. I've been keeping up with custom roms and some really still seem to have some issues and quirks like wireless charging issues and Bluetooth not working. Phones not going into deep sleep I don't have any of those issues.

Rooting the dna isn't really about getting a performance boost as it is about getting extra customization.

And because we should have root.
We should have root by default, the fact we have "hack" the software to get what should be allowed by default is bs

Giving root to everyone might not be optimal for average users that aren't tech savvy... however it really shouldn't be difficult to get root access...once a device is bought, the users should have the right to do what they want with it. Think about buying a laptop and not being able to put an OS you want on it...could we have a petition to force companies to let the device really be owned by the user after its been payed for?

Have you guys tried flashing this to remove OTA and continue on
Coming from a galaxy nexus I had to root so I could theme as much back to AOSP as possible...
I definitely didn't do it for performance reasons and I'm very happy I rooted.

That doesn't remove the ota, it removes the files on your phone that control the ota.
If you are not rooted and on the ota there is no way to root(for now) and no way to revert back to the older software version, period.

Don't think it would matter anyway since you can't flash without being rooted. Oh well, guess I'll just wait till there is a root for the new update. Hopefully some of these ROMs get ported over as well

if you are getting it from online or any other way through the mail it will most likely have the pos ota that cant be rooted yet (i'm in the same boat and while the stock rom is pretty good the verizon and htc bloatware is annoying to say the least)
Most of the bloatware can be disabled on stock although it's not removing it you can prevent it from being seen and running in your phone.

I don't think we can easily re size the different partitions yet, so deleting them won't add any usable space.

Well if you do have the update then disabling it is the only thing you can do for now until a new exploit is found which should be soon.
