[Q] Handcent SMS Help? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Folks,
I was wondering if with Handcent SMS it is possible to have group conversations. I know that you can select more than one contact to receive a particular message but is their anyway for it to host conversations. With BB(I know a shame to compare) I had an application and if I sent a text to say 5 people, all 5 people seen each others replys as the phone forwarded one persons reply to everyone else and added their name. Is their anyway to get Handcent to do this? To host like a chat, if you will. It was super handy on BB being able to text 5 people, and all 5 of us carry on a conversation.
If this is something Handcent can not do, is their any other good application recommendations?
Thank you very much,
Blaine

They claim to support group sms but like you said when people reply it goes into their own individual thread from my experience. Damn shame they can't get it working properly like on BB and iPhone.

Well as dissapointing as it is thank you for confirming it wasn't just my ignorance. Such a shame though. Have you found any alternative applications that can do it?
Thanks!

Actually I just gave up and said forget it to group sms for now. I emailed handcent but never got a reply.

That's just not cool. It would really be handy for me. Weird Handcent never replied.
OT: What year car do you have? Foxbody?

Handcent has a group sms plugin on the market. Never had a need personally but it may be what you're looking for

I've downloaded tthe plugin & well...I still haven't figured out exactly what it does lol.

after searching "handcent group sms" on the market, multiple packages showed up, so far I count 9 plugins for group SMS. I'm gonna screw with it a bit. You may need to have everybody you're texting in the group running on the same SMS client... I'll see what I can figure out with it

Integrate ICQ sms capabilities in outlook

I will start by stating my goal: free sms. Yes I have read all the threads on it on this site and many more.
Here is the deal, I have unlimited data for 30$ with telus but text would costs me an extra 15$ per month. I have found a VOIP solution for sms (and talk but thats already settled), but I would still have to pay 5 cents per message and I am not sure it integrates seamlessly with the other apps). I have also found a java app that works with the ICQ servers and it works pretty well but I have to create a new address book for it and I don't want to do that, not only that but I have to open the app for every message.
Does anyone know a way of changing the server\address sms uses to change it for the ICQ info or someone who knows of an app that uses ICQ but is seamlessly integrated in other apps like contacts and outlook? (even then, outlook would not be a must, its mostly the contacts).
if this could be done, all I would need would be a reply adress to be set as my phone number and voila! unlimited texting would now be available.
So any thoughts on this?
oh and ps. I know of all the websites where you can send text messages and this is even worse than the java ICQ app.
pps. (and out of topic, I know) anyone in canada who wants a good voip provider with ssp info free and all that jazz and a 10000 minutes per week, check out brama telecom, 9.90$ per month with taxes and all.

never thought about it or tried. What about using E-mail? I know vzw... it's like ##########@vztext.com... or something.
The e-mail solution def. works but the problem is that I would have to know each person's providor and I don't know how replying would work :s
Ideally it would be like the current VOIP where it just chagnes the adresses but everything else still works like if it was on the regular network.

yeah. You would have them in your contacts with the ## as the e-mail address.
and how does replying work? what if someone sends me a message? I really like the whole threaded thing... does it go to my sms outbox or does it apprear as an actual e-mail?

Being that you sent an e-mail... they will get it with a reply address as an e-mail. I believe e-mails are threaded by default. I could be wrong.
see that is waht I am trying to avoid, because then people are confused. I have many friends (and my mother... why oh why did I have to show her how to text) who like texting but are totaly clueless about anything to do with technology. Having this integrated on my end would mean that I would be doing all the tehcnical fiddling for free sms but people at the otehr end would not notice any difference. kind of like with the voip fowarding to my phone for free incoming calls, this way people just think they are calling me and have nothign to worry about.
Also by changing the servers used, it would be able to take advantage of the "send text message" option in the contacts menu.

yeah. Not something I've tried. Maybe someone else can chime in.
well the person who created the voip sms app is probably the best qualified to pitch in on this, hopefully this thread catches his or her eye. Would you happen to know how created it so I can contact them on this?
Also, ICQ is already integrated in outlook on the pc but this is not the same thign as on the pc its just a toobar add-on.

Nope. I would say search the forums on here and on PPCGeeks.com. You might come accross his stuff.
well the creators of the VOIP sms for ppc and for smartphone were both on this forum and came up in my first search I knew I had seen their names around somehwere at some point. I sent them an invite to participate in this discussion, hopefully they can shed some light on this with their expertise.
anybody on this?

[Q] Final answer to group texting

Hello everyone,
I recently wanted to group text with people with iphones and one blackberry and needless to say it was a disaster. I have tried both the stock messaging app and SMS go, and both fail miserably when receiving and sending texts that are in a group thread, I receive them all separately and send them all separately. Is there an app to do this?
I have a LG Nitro HD on ATT.
And yes i have tried Google and searching the forums only to find people not coming up with an answer.
Thank you so much for your help
Does your phone have an SMS mode? I know mine does. Also if it doesnt try Slate Droid forums or Android Central. Hope this helps!
What do you mean SMS mode?
bump, does no one know the answer???
I think textplus offers free group texting

I would suggest checking out Kik messenger. I haven't researched the group messaging apps in a few months, but I know Kik was always pretty good about speedy receipt of messages, and it looks like it is back on Blackberry too (it had been removed from AppWorld for a bit). Kik will also allow you to send pictures. There may be another solution or two that would also solve your problem, so search around for apps similar to kik.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Group Texting on S3/Android

I recently decided enough with Apple/the iphone and so far I am absolutely loving my S3 and android in general. My only major issue is group messaging within the stock messages app.
With the iPhone it would show me in a group text who messages are also sent to and allow me to reply to all within the group.
Is there a particular setting to allow this on the S3 messaging app? I really like the look/theme of the app and would love this functionality. I do realize there are 3rd party messaging apps out there but I wasn't sure if I was missing anything.
Thanks.
It's not possible with the stock sms app, or even the samsung sms app. You need a 3rd party app like GoSMS Pro, or Handcent. There is a setting in each which enables it.
What it does is it combines the MMS's for you when they come in....so at first they come in as "download"...after they download, they go into the correct thread.
Yes it is just add multiple recipients and then send.

Yea, but when the message comes back, it doesn't group the recipients back (if your recipient replied to all). Don't see a way to reply to all either...in the case that someone sends you a group text.

I see this as well. It's a shame since other phones already have the ability.

You can group people together. You can select a group(s) to have your message sent to. If your friends have only one phone number in your contacts it won't ask which one to use, and unfortunately it doesn't remember which ones you picked the next time you start a new conversation (it does remember in the thread). Unless they can reply to all, the responding messages show up as a new thread.
Perhaps you can do this with the ATT MyMsgs app, I don't know.

Group messaging

So as much as I love this phone the one gripe I have is there is no group messaging option for us stock users. What do you guys use as far as a good messaging app? I love the stock messaging app just wish there was a group messaging option.
There's an option for group messaging either thru SMS or MMS
Where? I feel like I'm missing something. I can start a group message but if I receive a message and its a group message I get everyone's replies individually in separate threads.
I just wish there was a way to put all of those group messages in one thread. I hate seeing then separately.

I had the same problem but fixed it. Just go to your messages app and then go to settings. From there go to Multimedia messages (MMS). Then turn on group messaging and voila.

Are you trying this with a newly made group MMS? If you sent a group MMS previously and your friends are replying to that, it may not work. Try starting a new one.

Well my buddy started a group message and I received his message and everyone else's message in separate threads rather than all in one thread.
I don't believe you effect a group started by someone else. Especially iphone users. Hate when they include me.

I use GO SMS for group messaging and stock messaging for individual texts.
Edit: I enabled it and it works great! I had my bro send a group message through his iPhone and it works! No more Go SMS or Handcent! I love this phone more and more everyday.

Hello guys. I just got my HTC One. I have enabled group messaging from the MMS setting menu and have sent out a few group messages but I'm still getting responses individually. Any idea what would be the problem? Thanks!
If you sent to people who don't have group messaging...you will get individual responses because they don't have the option. I.e....I sent out a group msg to people with iPhones, HTC one and Samsung Galaxies...only the iPhone and One users were able to respond in the same group thread. The Samsung users responses were individual. I believe it's not an option on every android so there are alternatives like GO SMS and Handcent but they can be buggy. I am so GLAD that HTC embedded this option on the One. This was another reason why I chose this over the S4.
Edit: I was wrong, the S4 also has the group mms option.

Group messaging was established system wide with 4.2.2, update to a ROM with 4.2.2 and it will work great..If you don't want to upgrade and/or use a different SMS app...I love Textra SMS ...very simple and does group messaging perfectly.

[Q] Google Hangouts Group Message Question

I just swtiched to CM11 on my Nexus 5. In google hangouts the text messaging doesnt seem to be behaving the same now. Problem i am having is with group messages. I send text to 4 or 5 people at once but their responses all come back in separate messages to me. they look like they are just to me but it seems from responses that they are to everyone in group. It didnt do this before. If i sent messages to group, all their responses came back in the same message thread. if i had seperate message to someone it was in its own thread. please help because this is very annoying. there has to be a setting or something that got switched
I think using google hangouts its meant for that to happen if I am correct. If your sending a text it sends to individually but if you send a hangout messages thats a group message.

It definitely wasn't doing this before. Send a group message and it wouldn't seperate into individual messages. It absolutely shouldn't be sending me a message that looks like it's from one person and only going to me but actually is going to a group.

Anybody out there help me or see how this works in hangouts for them? I am 99% positive it didnt work this way before and it makes no sense for it to. Stupid if somebody can send me a group message and i think its just from them and only way to respond to everyone is create new message to all of them.
