Hi guys
I'm looking at getting this phone in July when it's released in Canada. I just want to know how many people who bought the most recent phones are having problems with screens (yellowing), and the battery/reboot issues.
I love this phone but now I see all the problems it has I'm not as inclined to buy it...

Can you get this thread closed by a mod and then create one exactly the same but add the option "I have no problems"?

i honestly dont have any issues with it..

no problems with mine either. best phone ive had - easily.

I have the yellowing screen, but tbh, only when I searched for it, I noticed, on normal daylight outside or inside, while txting or browsing net, by watching movies or playing games, you willl NEVER notice it, unless you are looking for it. and its only when its showing darkgrey color and only when brightness is less than 50%, that was the only condition I was able to see it, any other color will NOT have this issue, and if you have combination of more colors, you have no chance to see it...
This cannot annoy me more than the fact that I will send my SGSII for repair and be without it for 2 weeks and then get it back with new display, but same issue..

Again here ... NO issues at all. Amazingly good phone!,

I have not noticed any battery or spontaneous reboots on my SGS. I bought it in early June.
Neither did I notice the yellow banding, but this does not mean that it is there.

no problems so far

I got my phone a week ago today, had no issues at all its a fantastic android, the best I have ever owned.

5 bad pixels here. No other issues.

No problems at all with the phone, best one I ever had
(and I'm now in my 50's, so I've had a lot of phones)
The unlucky people with problems are a bit like the unlucky HTC Desire owners, when it first came out many had to be returned for repair.

I'd find this rater unusual than great... you probably would like to check if your battery is showing the stats correclty

It's obviously not. It's not actually possible for it to use 0% of the battery and remain on. Hell - the battery would run dry if it wasn't even in the phone, given enough time, so it's never using 0% unless it's actually empty!!!

fellow canuck here using it on Fido. love it. no problems here. I never turn down my brightness below 100%, seems like a slap in the face to all the engineers who helped develop the super AMOLED+ screen

I got mine 7 days ago and it's back in it's box ready to go back! I should say I'm getting another one though.
Mine had a very poor microphone, so poor infact that when I called myself and left a voicemail, I couldn't understand it Also had a reception issue, and was generally a lemon!

is my phone defective (& what do I do about it)

I bought my new Rezound on 12/2.
I bought it with two of the 2750 batteries & when it was new the battery life was amazing.
Now, for some reason my battery life has dropped drastically & when I am streaming audio (iheart radio) the phone gets so hot I can barely touch it.
I tried factory resetting it & using a different battery but it didn't make any difference.
I went back to the VZ store where I bought it, & the girl told me they would send a replacement phone but it might be a refurb. I darn sure don't want a refurb at this point.
Does it sound like this phone is defective and if so, how do I handle this??

It will be a refurb but there has been a lot of heating issues but I luckily haven't had no issues at all with my phone.

this is the only issue I have had, and it only happens when I am streaming online audio like Sirius or iheart radio. Are you doing online streaming??
my older Droid Charge gets pretty hot doing that also, but I don't think it ever got quite this hot.

i was in the same boat. i got my brand new phone replaced with a refurb. it hasn't bothered me yet, but if it does I know I have till Jan 15th to get it replaced. this refurb hasn't given me any trouble yet, it's gotten up to 105 but that's about it.
If you bought it from Verizon directly, go to the store or call customer service (*611) and swap it out. They should give you a new one if you want it as long it's before Jan 15. Once you're past Jan 15, you're in the warranty replacement zone where you should expect refurbs. IMO, there is absolutely nothing wrong w/ refurbs, in fact I'm pretty sure the last one I received solved my own overheat issue (still testing). When it came, it was mint, and if it wouldn't have been, I would have kept replacing it until it was.
no overheating streaming pandora or amazon mp3 music. I would get it replaced.
Yeah you have till January 15th to return or exchange it.

I bought it from a Verizon official store.
I went there today & the girl working there (who I had never seen before) told me the only option was to call & have them send me a refurb.

Just went through the same thing... Almost. I bought my phone on Dec 2nd as well. My phone overheated constantly. On Saturday my phone decided to go into an endless reboot so I called Tech Support and explained the situation. He said the heat may have fried something and I could get a replacement. I immediately told him that I hadn't had the phone long enough to have to get a refurb and he totally agreed. He said I had 30 days to return a defective product for a new phone or a new model with no restocking fee. He also added that I actually had a little longer because of the Holiday return policy. Took my phone into the store on Sunday and told them Tech Support sent me in to get a new replacement because of my issue. No questions were asked and the guy even went through multiple phones per my request to find the latest pink buttons that we could. Walked out with a brand new phone and I no longer have heat issues. The battery seems to last longer as well. Hopefully this doesn't change. On the way out he told me if there were any more issues, I had 30 days to get a new replacement.
My advice, go get a NEW phone. If you need some ammo to win your argument, take a screen shot of your battery temp with you.

Well, success finally.
I went to a different VZ store this afternoon and they agreed there was something wrong with the phone but they didn't have any in stock.
Even if they did, the rep told me they could not give me a new one but gave me a number to call at Verizon.
I called and ended up talking to three different guys before they agreed to send me a new one in a box. I will have it tomorrow morning.

Boy am I ever glad I got my phone replaced.
Even with ALL DAY audio streaming it has never gone much over 100° F.
I am also getting an entire day from one 2750 batt & the old phone was eating up two a day.

Wow I'm jealous of the great customer service... I went to my store with over heating issues (130f after 20 min of angry birds, went as high as 137 streaming audio) and my battery only lasts about 6 hours on regular use. the guy said it was adw launcher causing the problem, bc your not supposed to run another launcher over sense. So I force closed adw and went to sense. I put a live wallpaper on and watched the temp go to 111. So he says its probably the task killer I'm running, that your not supposed to run them bc the phone doesn't need it. So I realize he is pretty much is not going to really help me so I got a little crappy. He told me to call customer service maybe they would help. Customer service eventually sent me another phone, but not a new battery. My new phone now has the same exact issues, and I tested this one first by only putting angry birds on it and that's it. It got to 127 after about 15 min. And the battery still doesn't last more than 6 or 7 hours. So I guess now I'm just wondering what the Heck I have to do to get this properly solved?

like most verizon reps, that guy is a moron. yes, it's true that a task killer SHOULD NOT BE RUN ON THIS PHONE! however, running ADW over sense isn't bad for the damn phone; that's what that app was designed to do..replace a launcher!
either way, he was a tard, and i'm sorry that he was such a dumbass. most of them are. so either way, the phone they sent you is a refurb if they didn't send you the battery. go to another verizon store, talk to another customer, complain to customer service that this is ridiculous, that you bought a brand new phone, ti was CLEARLY defective, they sent you a REFURB and that you want a brand new phone. the poster above got a brand new in box phone sent to him, you should try the same.

Anybody have fully functional units after ICS update?

I felt very fortunate last week when HHgreg apparently priced the prime incorrectly for $399.00. I immediately ordered one online and my local store had it in stock. First thing I did when I opened it up was to check for the ICS update and it started downloading it. My battery was at about 27% when the update started downloading and at around 20% when I attempted to install. After the install was complete I had the same issue as many others in that the screen banding was happening and so I called HHgreg to see if I could exchange it. The reason I mention battery % was that I had read somewhere that if the update was completed on a low battery that it could cause the issue that I experienced. They had one more in stock and allowed me to exchange. The next one I received was one with the serial number issue that would not even recognize there was an update available. I am now waiting on my third tablet to arrive but wandering if I should keep it. I hate to take it back seeing I got it for 349.00 after the 50.00 coupon but I dont see to many comments of people who are having no issues and are completely satisfied with the tablet. Please comment if its possible to have a prime that is functioning properly.
I also purchased my TP from HHgregg for 399. but i waited before I upgraded to ICS. I was nearly charged or i might have been fully charged. But the only Issue is my gps. wifi works from 35- 40 feet from the router anlong with my other 3 device's I use in my house. Been playing agry birds for hours not problem at all. Only once did it show that Baning issue when I started using the camera after the 4th picture it started. I shut the app down and restarted the prime. No problems using the camera app again so far. Never had a screen issue either. Ialso tested the wifi with my home router and my htc sensation how spot. both work fine.

I love mine, it works BETTER after ICS and it's your own fault you got impatient and borked your first one. Us with working Primes don't come on here and *****.
We just watch everyone else and try to help when we can. Maybe it's karma that the second one didn't work...cuz you screwed up your first one.
So respect the equipment. Either way if you wait or don't, it's a nice tablet.

your probably right , I was very anxious to update because I've been using an Acer Iconia for a couple of months now and was really looking forward to the update. Has nothing to do with respect for the equipment, whatever that would mean, just didn't know it would cause an issue with the update. Really I'm not trying to *****, I've just read so much negative and not enough positive about the tablet. Thanks for your letting me know that yours is working perfectly. By the way, I do not believe in Karma, I would say its more likely providence.

It's not his fault that he got two units that wouldn't update correctly. While it's true that it's best practice to do upgrades either plugged into the mains or fully charged, if the tablet didn't actually run out of charge in the middle of the update I don't see how that could affect anything.

Todd don't listen to him you did nothing wrong I updated to ICS as soon as I got my new one from HHGrregg with 20% battery life and it works perfectly fine with no lockups something is different in some Primes making this happen we just don't know what that is until Asus owns up to it.
PrimeTimeBro, thats good to hear, I really want to keep the device but unfortunately I've received two bugged devices. Hope that the next one is solid.
I had no problems with my TP during or after ICS install. There are other problems - but they had nothing to do with the firmware update.
No problems here.....other than dropping off my desk and cracking the screen in 2 places.

Not your fault.....you just got 2 bad ones. I updated mine at 20% and have had no issues. Just return it and get one that works.....350 is still a lot to pay for a tablet that can't be updated.
I have returned two as well. Both had screen issues. I am still hoping to get a good one. I ordered two just in case this time from best buy. If i get 4 bad tablets I'm not sure what I will do... I really wish another company had the nice matching docks. I suppose i would continue this until either best buy bans me from buying more or the tf700 is released and i start the process over.
Don't worry, you will get one. Just keep returning them if there is problems. Asus will not tighten qc if people keep problem tablets. I am sure they directly correlate the % they accept as defective during manufacture to the number of returns they get.
I've yet to notice any problems with mine caused by the update. The only problem is that GPS still doesn't work lol but I wasn't expecting it to be fixed either.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the GPS works with WiFi, stuffs, but I can't connect to any satellites. Nothing new lol.

Rofl this is classic I like your thinking
Fully Functional since day 1 with honeycomb. Still fully functional after ICS. WIFI is fine and GPS is shocking. Apart from a slight back light bleed in top right corner everything is great.
I feel sooo fortunate that i have a working Prime after reading pretty much every thread dedicated too faulty devices.

I received a Champagne gold unit from Amazon, charged the battery up, connected to my Wifi and got the ICS update notification.
It loaded with zero problems and I have had no problems with it since then.
I cannot say if my TP has GPS issues because I have no expectation of using GPS on a Wifi only product. (.02)

I did have a few lock ups and random reboots after ICS, but a factory rest took care of all that. No issues anymore.
i still havent updated my hhgregg to ICS due to some games not running correctly. one of which is dead space. Once i finish that then i will probably update and hope i dont run into any issues.

Returned EVO for issues. Second one is perfect.

My first EVO that I bought on launch day was having some issues. Sense reloading, WiFi not disconnecting after I left my house, 3g sucked, battery life wasn't the greatest, and just seemed laggy. The guys at best buy tried argueing with me and said to reproduce the issues. I was able to show them the 3g connection and my WiFi issue. The guys tried telling me the WiFi was because the phone will automatically connect to all open access points. This is where we started to argue for a minute or two. I told them that was BS, we argued for a few seconds then I cut him off and asked, "Are u going to honor your return policy or what?" I hate it when Best Buy employees try to act that they know everything.
Anyways, the second EVO is running great. WiFi acts normal, way less lag, battery has gone for 2 full days without being charged and moderate use. And sense hasn't reloaded one time yet. Im really glad I traded it out for another instead of just returning. I'm going to give it one more week before I root. I'm missing my apps from my OG EVO.

thats whats up man! im in the same boat my 3g sux my wifi act's funny.. same problem u were having.. seems to go away then comes back?? i dont kno what to do.. i quess if it keeps up im gona bring it to the sprint store.. my luck the problems wont happen while im at the damm store!!!

HTC has a built in feature called SmartSync, which disables data after a period of non-use for deep sleep. If you check the dev threads, there's a fix for it, but it requires some smali editing. Some of the more recent roms have it built in. So the whole WiFi/3G disconnect thing is actually a feature believe it or not...lol
I believe I am lucky. Even though there are the multitasking issued, which everyone has, my EVO has never done the loading sense home screen thing... And I run some memory hoggin apps. Grindr, last.fm, maps, xda, browser, mail. Never had the reload show up yet.

im having the light leak issue also.
also the sticker i had was black, like some generic sticker placed over the small clear one that was probably broken already.

I understand your pain dealing with people that are less knowledgeable than you (a Sprint rep tried to tell me that the SD card on my phone could be what was causing the reception issues if the card was 32gigs, no joke). However, try to understand that most of the time these people are just following instructions set forth by their employers. When things usually start to escalate like that, stay polite and ask for a manager. Believe me, it works better.
Anyway, I'm glad you got a non-defective phone and can start to enjoy it

I exchanged my first EVO LTO for frequent reboots at a Sprint Corporate store, 2nd one perfect!
On my third LTE. Should have kept the first one. Hope the new shipment BB gets is better than the ones they had last week.
First LTE: Dust under glass and slight light leakage
Second: Pixel stuck in on position and screen has the flex/ripple issue when under medium pressure
Third: Has flex/ripple issue as well and wifi on this one and 3 G has been worse than the first two
Next shipment comes in Friday. Crossing my fingers for a GOOD one!
My first was light leakage and second was ripple and all I can find around here all have the ripple, hope this goes away in the upcoming batches...

Omg I would switch to another phone after the first one Wtf is wrong with you guys. There are more superior phones oops did I just say that yes I did.
I had to return my first one as well. I was not getting calls txt or voice mails. Data worked find but nothing else.
exchanged it at best buy, and all my messages came through right away.
I suspect that it was not a phone issue but an activation issue.

You mean like the Galaxy S3, the phone that will have zero problems on launch day? Good luck. My first Evo had a bad pixel, and I am waiting on the replacement. I was going to get the SG3 instead, but after reading the UK SG3 threads, there are a lot of issues. I decided that the Evo is best for me. Whether it is superior or not is subjective.
Yeah, as stated above, it will have issues. Hell, go to the S3 forums here at xda and review the complaints of various folks.
In the end, my EVO is imperfect, but as usual with HTC, software updates will fix these annoyances, so I'll be patient.

I'm guessing you didn't have their Touch Pro? I went Samsung after that. That being said I will never buy another Samsung phone, they don't support their phones for ****. I'm with you though I'll take the minor data drops and wait out HTC patches and the much stronger dev support system..

It is amazing to have the chance to compare two different phones. I ended up unfortunately having that experience after I dropped my brand new EVO LTE in the toilet. My first phone I noticed that it didn't auto dock on my car dock even with the option turned on.
Haven't tried the camera on the new phone but old phone seemed like it didn't take sharp pictures like I was expecting but ones that were more out of focus than really blurry.

HTC has a built in feature called SmartSync, which disables data after a period of non-use for deep sleep. If you check the dev threads, there's a fix for it, but it requires some smali editing. Some of the more recent roms have it built in. So the whole WiFi/3G disconnect thing is actually a feature believe it or not...lol

Which roms have this built in? I returned my EVO recently and my new phone has the same wifi problems. I would like to try a rom before returning the phone again.

Just got my S3 and i need help! ALREADY! :(

i just got my S3 and i m so worried and so sad people!
i got the pebble blue s3. i have issues with my screen. i ran the screen test and found the same dark spots on my screen when screen is black. there are lots of them. i dont have nice camera to take pic of those dots. they are really annoying because i surf the internet a lot and these dots are very visible specially in the dark!
the other issue is something with the viewing angle. when i hold the device right next to my eyes (as we all do most of the times) the screen seems to be more yellowish and the colors seem to be alot washed away! but when i change the viewing angle like just a little, i mean when i tilt the device just a little the colors get normal the way they should be!
the next thing is the pink tint. in the browser the white pages are EXTREMELY PINK! yes EXTREMELY PINK! that happens at the automatic brightness!
when viewing the black color on the sceen, when the capacitive touch buttons are on the light of the menu button seems to leave its light on the screen. and the blacks are NOT AT ALL BLACK!!!
people i am so tensed and worried! can someone help me out of these problems? i have read that the white S3 does not have any of this problem is it true? i have also read that the dark spots are because of the glu used and those would go away with time, but i dont believe in that! should i send the device to claim warranty and get it repaired? pls pls pls some one help me! i have spent all my money i had saved for the past 4 months for this set and i even sold my Galaxy Note for this! i am so much tensed! pls help me guys!

You got a defective unit it happens. So send it back or get it repaired / exchanged. You spent a lot of money you should get a product that works as intended without defects. The sooner the better you'll be much happier. Best advice I can give you. All without the need to jumping off a bridge or if you do hope that you that you land on kyan to break your fall.

Now that's un called for, yes these are all known issues and have been discussed at length, however that doesn't justify your comment.

The block splotches are absolutely not indicative of a bad display.
They are present on virtually every OLED screen, ranging from the Nexus One's, to the PlayStation Vita's, to the Samsung Galaxy S3's.
I can't speak for your other issues, but people need to understand the splotches are common on pretty much any OLED. Some can see them easily, some seem to be unable to, but it does not mean the panel is defective.
Why are you on here? I see you just joined the site recently. How about you learn to be polite and if you can't, then leave.

no thats not right! i have a Samsung Wave for the last 1.5 years! i have never ever seen any spots on the screen! and u know that was the world's first ever super amoled screen mobile! i had galaxy note, JUST PERFECT! i literally am so disappointed for selling out my Note for this **** S3! i hate Samsung now! this is my last handset from samsung!

While a little uncalled for, I did find the response pretty funny at first...If I had gotten a unit that bothered me that much I'd have it exchanged.

yeah u r right. i guess my set is faulty. but i thought this might be something that would get ok with time. but that does does not make any sense. if those dots were something related to the glue, those should have been vanished by now as the set is old now. i mean it should have been produced at least like 1 or 2 months ago.
man i am ruined! i feel really so so bad! i just got up its 7 here in the morning and i am so badly hurt! and great news is that today is complete shutter down strike here in my city Karachi. so all the market and whole of the city is shut down. so i cant go to the store and return the device! HELL TODAY IS ONE OF THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE!

You have to admit though that it was funny
I use an app called dead pixel test, and it allows you to cycle through several different solid coloured screns, like all white, all black, red blue etc. No probelms with my screen, but I have a screen protector on it now.
Does yours have a screen protector that could be affecting it? Otherwise just return it as faulty.
I also have the pebble blue and screen is amazing. No issues here. Did notice the marks on a completely black screen in a dark room once but it hasn't showed since. Didn't really bother me.

Just tested my phone for the dark patches and the screen is full of them. So far it hasn't ruined my life. Or indeed a millisecond of my life.

Get over it and get it exchanged if your not happy, but seriously whining like the above makes you look very silly as your acting like an 8 year old with a tantrum.
My s3 has faults too, like the front facing speaker isnt flat and sits at an angle... but you dont hear me whining....
These are a mass produced product and there will always be faulty units... so dont fret and go and get another one

I had to cycle through 5 different Galaxy Nexii(?) before i found a perfect display. Ever since then, im sticking to it till it dies. Of course...after seeing the HTC One X, every display out there is crap.

[Q] Future Customer, Sooner than Later?

Hello's to you fellow's lol,
I have a question regarding this phone. I am most likely going to purchase the c6833 model if not then I may have to buy the c6802 one, however, this is all contingent on many factors and answers to the following questions:
1) The screen issue, I've heard, saw and read about the screen issues which plague some of these devices. To elaborate, the screen dies on some people, refuses to turn back on or the phone itself dies randomly. Now is this an issue exclusive to the c6802 model or has this been an issue on the c6833 model as well. Furthermore, is this an issue of hardware or software, or the general consensuses still has no idea.
2) How is the battery life on this phone, I currently have the Note 2 and the battery life on this is absolutely phenomenal, now I refuse to accept that I am being spoiled and am certain that this should be the standard rather. Thus how does the battery life of the ZU compare with that of the Note 2's
Well that's about it, I live in Canada and the phone isn't out yet here in stores so I have to order it online for about $800-900, which is fine I guess, but it would absolutely crush me if I was to spend that much and then 2 weeks down the line have the screen and phone go full retard on me, and then have to deal with the pain of shipping it back to Sony labs etc.
I heard the phone is out in Canada in about 2 weeks? I think they are timing the launch to be similiar to the Australian launch which is October 10.
Oh okay thanks for that info, I didn't know it was Oct 10th I thought it would be near the end of Oct, so yeah I guess I'll just hold out for when it's released through retail, better safe and late than early and sorry.

the phone is not great but super super great! most wonderful I ever got. the screen SOD problem I think is easy to work around just don't UNCHECK the Optimized backlight then everything goes fine :cyclops:
the only shortage of the phone is the battery life really a bit short, still light to moderate use is ok. :good::good::good:
Personally I'm coming from note 1 and think the battery life with stamina mode is awesome. I hear the battery life is a little under the note 2 so you should be fine with it. It's an epic phone I would say, don't hesitate. I'd say it's worth getting the 6833 as I think 4g support will be more mainstream within 6 months or certainly a year.
