Yes! I feel the exact same. surely there's an easy way to tweak the max headphone volume.
Is it noticeably lower after 2.2 instal than it was with 2.1?

Agreed I use mixzing, but the equalizer doesnt do much without distortion. Does anyone know if the louder volume hack apps work? I thought i read that djsteve boosted volume? Or maybe just a dream. LoL

What excactly do the designers at dell do whilst planning the next release?

There a lot of owners using the streak as a mp3 player: OK we'll put a stop to that by removing any decent volume
Ok there's a lot of owners using rebel sim to bypass the unlock: we'll put a stop to that with 2.2
There's a lot of 1.6 users utilising the 5' screen size: we'll put a stop to that with 2.1 and design it so you can fit less icons on a screen
And when we release 2.2 we'll release it with something called stage which wastes even more of the 5' screen size

Lol. Now that's a rant.
I haven't had the streak all too long but it's a fantastic device. . The volume control is really low. But I'm sure Dell will fix it if we head on over to their forums or something. Possibly put in a ticket? I'm going to open a support ticket this week because there are a ton of apps on the market that give me an error 18 message which pisses me off. But I guess I'll open a ticket for this too. Haha.

Maybe simply its a byproduct of 2.2 on their specific hardware. Well have to wait and see.I suppose.

Gutted, just bought a 2nd gen xmi mini speaker, it sounds truly unbelievable with any other audio device but can hardly hear it with the streak. It's like they've put some avls volume limiter on to save our ears using headphones, it sucks.
Does anyone know of any way to over ride this?

Seems I'm not the only one with this problem. I can hear my surroundings using an in ear set with the streak on PowerAMP max preamp.
Hope someone can find a fix for this...

From what I understand through extensive research on the matter, the only way app based volume boosters will work is if you are running a rom which has kernel changes to allow the apps to modify sound.
Louder Volume Hack needs to root!
thought my headphones were buggered. looks like its the streak instead.
Did this ever get fixed? Can't find anythng positive in search.
The pathetic volume from the earphone jack makes the Streak useless as a media tablet - one of its prime selling features!
Well i put the netflix app on my 3d and the video plays fine but the sound so so low even with media all the way up on the phone.Anyway to boost this? media sound on my EVO was great.

Yes I noticed this as well. For evo we used DSP manager but im not 100% if we can transfer it over without root, but idk. There are a few apps in the market you could try...
Thanks i don't feel like trying out every app in the market either if someone knows of 1 that does work or have to wait on root but really the media sound is very low when on full.

I just checked the market and it seems we are gonna have to wait for root for any volume hacks to work. But its good the issue has been addressed!
Same here, i noticed that the volume in other apps such as tango and qik video are low too.
Well ill hope when we get root that a rom has a sound hack to boost it.
I tired the 2 on the market they did nothing.HTC really dropped the ball on the sound of the media because i mean they made a 3d phone and to watch movies on it and such and made the sound so low ugggh

I think the SRS is only available when using the default HTC player. When you start up a video you have saved on your device/sd it will have the icon for SRS on the bottom left corner. You touch that to toggle SRS off or on. It does increase the volume to turn it off, but not very much.
Also, even with the EVO4G, I tried every app I could find on the market, and only ever found 1 that increased the volume, and it did so very insubstantially; almost not even a noticeable difference. DSP Manager is the only thing I've seen that actually worked. Root is required, and not sure that it would work on the E3D regardless.
We'll just have to wait it seems.
Important and accurate thread. Any chance this could be fixed via a firmware update from HTC?
And i know this is a little off topic but isn't Android sort of SUPPOSED to be open-source-y? So why the run around and root wars? I dream of a world where you can press 1 button for root access but must sign a waiver/void I'd warranty to do so. Have to do it un-store so not a bunch of idiots will just click w/o reading.
Of course even in that world a lot of us would obviously STILL try to do a root under the radar...
Stock EVO and stock evo3d are so far apart in media sound.Same youtube video on both first the evo i have to almost turn it down from full and with the evo 3d i have to hold it near me to even hear it.Worlds apart.
My media volume is much better than my EVO ever was.

Well,then your OG Evo had a blown speaker in it or something. Because this thing is night and day compared to the Evo 4G.

I thought I was crazy when I needed to put my ear up to the phone when playing back a message from Google Voice as I didn't think it was actually coming out of the back speaker. It sure was.

I am glad I am not the only one who has noticed this. The EVO 4G could get quite loud almost on par with many Tablets I have seen, the 3D does not get nearly as loud.
SRS is a simulated surround Codec and have not noticed a huge change when using it. At first, I thought it might be the Otterbox Defender, but I took it out and the volume is still awfully low.

im afraid there prob. isn't a fix for this,its just a small speaker..I think if it gets pumped up it will blow...The quality coming out of it as it is is already on the verge of crackling
I went into the sound settings, turned off pocket mode, then moved the sound sliders all the way up. This seemed to help with my low volume issue.

My wife's phone had the same problem. Hers is not rooted. She ended up taking to Sprint for a $35 repair. They said the speaker was messed up. It didn't seem to affect the media or ringer volume, just the in call volume.

Yes, but i dont know what can i do? Because now i have phone but i cant calling but as mp4 player or for doing photos is good. But i need calling too.
Same problem here, on mwakious too. Did some searching and apparently the in call speaker connection is a bit ****. I've gotta try a warranty repair first otherwise I'll give it a crack myself, doesn't seem too hard.

Have you tried rasing the volume with qpst? I have used the method and its definitely an improvement over factory settings.

lol, I'm pretty sure we just don't have good calling speakers. I also experience low call volume even when the in-call volume is max. This doesn't matter what ROM I'm on. I've been through 2 replacements and all are the same thing.

Now my friend said : Problem was in LeeDroid 5.0. In this version was problems with sounds. When i have this phone everything was O.K.

seems people have seen this issue, as I have. one of the Evo3D's I had for a few days had this issue. couldn't figure it out. tried different roms, etc... no joy. had to take it back for a replacement.

Turn on the "Hearing Aid" mode in Call settings. At the cost of having another icon in your status bar, your volume will be quite loud in call.

I wanted to buy an SIII but I went to the store and listened to the musice through my apple in the ear headphones. The volume is not quite loud enough for me. I checked the settings and noticed that the were all maxed. My Iphone4 is louder but I want the SIII any network version here in the UK.
I also looked at the HTC One Audio Beats which was perfect, but I really want the SIII.
The audio limiter rules in Europe go against me because of my disabiltiy and I just wish there was a way to make it louder to cover my hearing loss. I wear hearing aids but take them to and use headphones to listen to music.
Do I write off the SIII or is there someway around it?
Grateful to anyone who might be able to help.?

Since you're posting on XDA, I'm assuming you'll be rooting your phone. If so, then yes there is a mod that will greatly increase the phone's volumes for earpiece, speaker, headset, headphones and dock. Mod is located here. It is a popular mod for those of us who prefer a much louder phone, and this fix is even baked into some custom ROMs.

1) WIll this root work here in the UK
2) Can I restore back to factory and return if it all goes wrong.

I don't know what you mean by "will this root work here in the UK". Are you planning on buying just the regular International version of the Galaxy S3? Answer to question 2 is yes.

[EDIT]: nvm
There's a mod called GVM 1.0.2 for S3 Int, if you're rooted. If you root and want warranty work, you need to reset counter to 0 with triangle away and flash stock Rom using mobile odin, then del your root apps like mobile odin etc

I have to say a huge thankyou for everyone that posted. A great help! Just before I hit that purchase button I have posted a request for more info on the S3 general forums about dumping my iphone. I do not want to include it here as I do not want to hijack my own thead.

Just ordered the S3 blue, to be delivered tomorrow.... I am going to need some hand hold here to blow that volume hack so whatever you please do not shout at me. I read up on the mod zip file but it left me slightly confused.... Are there any step by step instructions on how to apply the rom?

Well you first have to achieve root and flash clockworkmod ecovery.
From recovery you will be able ro install roms and tweaks like the "extremely loud volume hack" you need.
You can start from here for rooting ang flashing CWM

Change the kernel to either Siyah or franco.Kernel
They have the voodoo sound in it which can like boost the headphone/earphone volume by a lot.
Another way is to use a headphone amp but seriously using the above method is super loud already.

Let me know if you want to stay stock but rooted .. GVM works well but .. in past Galaxies nothing compares to voodoo .. waiting for JB to install Siyah or Franco.

Mod has some limits but I wouldn't use max, might ruin speake. Actually I just boosted vol for headphones, speaker is fine for me but I don't see any harm boosting another 20-30% .. think limit is like 50 + 13% .. search for thread MOD GVM in S3 General Q

Well I got my S3 today and wow what a great phone!... The ear volume is that loud that I can actually hear with my hearing aids in, I am totally made up with it. :good:
The only thing is the ringer sound. Before I consider root it, does anyone know where I can get a Old Style Telephone ring ring tone from? Preferably volume maxed?
I cannot hear the supplied tone because of their frequency and the old style ring ring always seems to work best.
I am happy to pay for the ringtone. :laugh:

try with qpst along with getting msl - using msl reader its some where in one of these threads then under audio tab increase to 4 hope it helps

Read the disclaimer for the qpst. Setting the tab all the way up to four has the potential to blow out your phone's speakers. Three is the best bet. As always you do this at your own risk and nobody is responsible if you mess up your phone. Don't mean to sound like a douche but I had to tell somebody off for smarting off to me about using qpst.
actually if you put your ear RIGHT UP TO THE PHONE it'll sound louder! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!?!?!?!? lol. now if you actually read the manual.. I think it actually says something like you have to hold your phone at least an inch away from your head or you'll die of the rays coming out of your phones. lol! QPST is ****ty software. I'm not paying to use it.

I have tried different apps to increase the volume (both speaker and headphone) of my Evo3D, but I never actually felt any difference. Only difference I felt was when I installed Mwakious's Roms with his sound enhancements, there was a bit of an increase, I have to admit. You guys should give it a shot, seems better than those Google Play apps that you need to pay in order to receive... nothing
