hi
recently got an Olivepad VT-100 and got it rooted and clockwork Mod installed on the same and also backed up my rom .
So For those who have been struggling to get the same done like me here is a simple guide
1. Get to know that The Olivepad VT - 100 is the same as
these Models : Viewpad 7 Cherry Mobile Superion, Commtiva Linx N700, Spice MI700, and Camangi FM600( found this out the hard way)
for rooting it go here
[TOOL] Viewpad 7 Backup, Root & Recovery - By lakehousetech (thanks to his help i got it done)
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015005
one more link for the same : http://android.modaco.com/topic/324042-clockwork-recovery-for-mi700n700viewpad-7/
For recovery via Rom Manager see below link (note i have not used this)
Link : http://hucqim80.blogspot.com/2010/12/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery.html
the superoneclick did not work for me so for those who have the same problem
take ginger break APK from attached install it on ur Olive pad and bang it works with one click
IT worked for me
thanks to Nos0x for this find
Note : i did not use ADB for the commands as im not comfy with the same
i used Terminal emulator from the Pad for the commands
update : i also tried re flashing my nand backup via CWM it worked fine for me
This worked for me as i was willing to take the risk
so remember the risk is always yours and im not responsible if you brick ur phone or anything
Important : on rooting & getting CWM 1st do a Nand backup of ur original Stock rom before trying to flash any rom.So u are always safe & can go back to ur stock Rom

Problem & Solutions with the Pad
hi
well this was a problem i faced today and got a solution for the same wanted to share the same
Problem
well after flashing a custom Rom today i read about a apps2sd which was available in the market i downloaded the same to my pad installed the APK on my pad its some application which said it will enable JIT i clicked on it and the phone restarted and then i had just a blank screen ie it was on but blank
i kind a got a heart attack as my pad is only around a month old but then life is about taking risk right or it wont be fun
solution
i remembered i did some thing similar to what is given below long time back with my old gene aka HTC 3400 win Mob i just tried the same & it worked for me
hold the volume buttons both of them & power button & while holding these two u need to restart by inserting a pin in the restart small hole available next to the mike
on doing the above u will be able to got to ur CWM and u can re install the os u want again that what i did
just sharing my experience in case u get the same problem
thanks

Hey, thanks for the speedy reply. I did try gingerbreak. However, though I can install ans use most root required apps, when I try to manually install busybox, it fails.. is this normal.
the bigger problem is, ever since I first tried to root my olivepad, I am not able to enter recovery mode at all. I am trying all of this just so I can use rom manager and flash into the default rom. ;-( any help here? is there any way I can restore the olivepad to stock. If I unroot the system, can I give it for service under warranty?

hi
if u successfully root & get the CWM installed u can do a nand back up and restore the same but when u root u have the risk of loosing ur warranty
but to my knowledge if u re install the OS and re install ur original image
u need to backup ur oringal via ADB or termemulator pls read lakehousetech thread for details i have given the link in the 1st page
u can do this via terminal emulator or ADB & remove the superuser
i dont think the service guys go all that deep in checking if u have rooted and if u dont have the super user on ur pad i Dont thing they will find out u have rooted ur pad . this is as per my experience in India with my phone
the risk is always yours Kindly note im not responsible for any issues u get into with your Pad
note ; read this too : http://android.modaco.com/topic/324042-clockwork-recovery-for-mi700n700viewpad-7/
it also has info on how to install busy box u can also get a busy box installer from the market
Hi Haree,
Thanks a lot for all the info. And honestly, I don't need to be reminded that me breaking my pad is not your mistake ;-)
Well, I will sure look into the new link.
BTW, I needed a little help understanding something. When I saw the size of my OS partition, I realized there is only 32kb of space left. Due to this, I am unable to use oneclick to copy new files into the OS partition from the sd card. Could you please confirm whether this lack of space in the OS partition is normal?
And I am still searching for a way to force modify the OS partition using some other manual pc oriented means (not the exe's). Would be grateful for your suggestions.
Again, thanks a lot.

Milton
hi
sorry i dont get ur question are u talking about SD ext part

Thanks Haree, I used GingerBreak and it looks like it worked. I have installed Terminal Emulator and Im not able to get the soft keys to come up, I tried keeping menu button pressed. Can you tell me what is the keyboard software you are using and how you were able to bring the keyboard up in any of the terminal emulators? Also tried the busybox installer, it reports an unexpected error and closes.

Hi Hari,
I'm Rahul.. Have been trying to get hold of a good Custom ROM for my Olivepad for quite sometime now (Must have been blind to have ignored your posts earlier on).
Presently I'm running it on the Stock ROM rooted with z4root with CWM 2.5.1.2.
I have ROM Manager v 4.3.3.3 installed and tried to load CM 7.0.2 and later the other updates but every time it kept saying that there was an error in loading the ROM.
Assuming that I have done everything (rooting and loading CWM) correctly I'm going ahead with the ROMs suggested by you (VPAD7_signed.zip).
Shall keep this post updated on my success (or failure)
Sony Tablet S 3.2.1 (release2) Kernal Version: 2.6.3.6 [email protected] #1 Build number THMASOO124OOO can i root this? if so can you point me to the right direction? not tell me how to do it but where i can find a tutorial because i don't wanna mess it up you know thanks much appreciated
hey
as far as I know, only build #10 devices are not root able
if you want to root your tablet, enable USB-Debugging in your options,
after you have done that, go to this post, install the usb drivers, if you want to test if adb is working, start the batch file, which is located in the folder of the drivers, than type in the batch file, "adb devices", without" ", if it found devices, proceed to the next step
got to this post, download the AoI tool by condi, extract the tool, start the tool
type in "1" than press enter, wait till it's finished, exit.
congrats your tablet is rooted
I would recommend you, to also install the rescue-backdoor.
I hope that I could help you with my confusing tutorial
cheers

yes u can only do install rescue backdoor after the tab is rooted.
rooting in android means gaining root access. Market aka PlayShop is a place where all androids apps/games are hosted. Weather u can play on Sony Tab or other android devices are purely base on the Android version (eg: 2.3.5(GB), 3.2.1(HC), 4.0(ICS) ).
if u ever come across apps like Titanium Backup, CPU Tuner... u will need root previlages to run it because it is meddling with the Android system settings which default the tab is mainly run as a normal user. Also, with rooted android devices, u can change the wifi binary to support adhoc wifi which again, by default it is not enabled. It seems that ICS does support it thou base on the adhoc wifi functions i see.
hope this info gives u a better picture about android rooting. for apple devices u jailbreak to install free apps or freely distributed IPA files.

go to this thread to change you build.prop (makes it/the market think it's a different device)
I've been known to pull out my sony tab at work on lunch, crank the wifi hot spot on my phone and smash out a few minutes of questing lol It's truly the best

im so glad i read this sick wit it!!!
Now let me tell you in detail what happens i follow all the steps required to flash a new ROM on my Xperia arc S but i don't know whats wrong with the devie. Now that it the time required to boot the device after installation of zip file from sd card is much longer(more than 40 mins.) so what is that i can do now.
Fire up adb logcat window n see if ur device is on bootloop n some of services r dying or not? U will see lots of things on boot...check if its repeating or not n on another window use dmesg...i guess ull get a clr msg. Sumtimes android boots bt due to library mismatch n other probs theres no display only adb shell. If u can connect to adb the see logs to determine ur problem. Hope this helps a bit.
I just bout a SP355AWG its a verry cheap android phone to play around with and for the price you get a not to bad speck phone i bout it for 499 ZAR its about $49 so i i used my friend google but i can not find a manufacture for theat fone tring to see if there is going to be a ICS update but no luck so i was hoping some one might be modtvated enough to compile one for this phone here http://www.digok.com/p11873784-cheap-3g-smart-mobile-phone-sp355awg is a link to give a better spec of the phone.
MTN Steppa SP355AWG
I also bought this phone. It's not bad at all for ZAR499, unfortunately only a product by MTN South Africa, so it won't be seen globally, and therefore you'd probably never get covers for it. It has Play store access but it is based on a unbranded cheap Chinese model, the SP355AWG that does not have Play store access.
But, I can't get the generic Google ADB drivers to work with it, Mtn has no drivers on their site, nor are there any included with the phone's package, kinda sucks. And there is also no info on rooting it. But a quick comparison between the SP355AWG and my previous Galaxy Pocket GT-S5300 that cost ZAR899
The SP355AWG has a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon and a GPU that can run alot of 3D HD games and the S5300 has a 800Mhz ARM11 and it can't run many 3D HD games.
The SP355AWG has a light sensor and proximity sensor that the S5300 does not have.
The SP355AWG also has a bigger screen and higher resolution:
SP355AWG: 3.5" @ 320*480
S5300: 2.8" @ 240*320
Both run Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Now the only major drawbacks are the non-available ADB drivers and no rooting info (Hope someone might be able to help with that?) and then the MTN launcher UI which can easily be replaced by installing a custom launcher from the Play Store like ADW or HOLO. Other than that it's a great buy.
EDIT: Apologies, I was wrong about the drivers, they are included on the device in a separate partition when connected via usb, but after I installed the drivers ADB still did not detect it so I had to go and add the vendor id in the adb_usb.ini file and voila, I can debug, now I'm just hoping to see this device get rooted
Root is possible

Ah I found it, thanks. Now I'm rooted but when I execute something as su it does't ask me to grant permission, it just allows it which I don't like because what if I one day install a malicious app unknowingly, I won't know if it's executing anything as su because my su app also shows no activity in the logging even though it's turned on. It also does not show the apps that requested su permissions
EDIT: Ok the su not notifying me was also solved after a reboot, it failed at remounting /system with rw access so it couldn't update the su binaries, after a reboot it succeeded at mounting it rw but fails at remounting it ro, same thing through the terminal. It says the partition is busy or in use but now my su binaries are updated and it requests permission.

so you got the phone rooted?
well nice cheep phone for a reason then lol I'll stick with my S3
As said by @Primokorn, my device is very rare and so I am cross posting here for additional help.
Hi,
First of all Device specs :
Device : Quantum QPulse 100s (Not chinese, its middle eastern company)
Processor : Intel Celeron N2805 1.46GHz
RAM : 2GB
OS : Windows 8.1 Pro, Android 4.2.2 (Dual Boot)
So as the title says, i need to root my android, here goes my story...
I tried so many methods to root but was unsuccessful
Here are the points to first notice :
1. Android is a custom built android but build id matches with nexus phone ( idk why )
2.There is NO BOOTLOADER.
More on that :- The tab itself is a mini PC, and i found out it has BIOS, and in the BIOS I found 2 options,
a) EFI BOOT
b) Windows management blah something we are not interested right now.
I found out that android has an EFI boot and we can go to the EFI SHELL but i found no use of that.
3. You CANNOT connect it to a PC using a USB cable.
Ask why ? Because the tab itself is a host system and in no way can you connect a host to another host. Except maybe networking.
Now for the INTERESTING Things WE can USE :
I found a way to mount all the android partitions on the windows os and I can write to those partitions.
Now i did place supersu.apk, su, busybox to the folders they need to be, but in android terminal app it says su permission denied.
Probably some permission problems. I have tried giving chmod in terminal app and moving those files to system/bin later. But didnt work
Also no root apps, such as Kingroot, Towelroot etc are working.
Beware again - You CANNOT use USB using methods.
I need root so i can install gapps, and also because i like root.
So, I need The XDA help
waiting. . . .
3 day bump.. awaiting any useful reply..
I dont want anyone to go deep into the device but it would be useful to tell me how to root a android, whose partition is accessible from another OS ( windows 8.1 )

Why no reply guys, a week and half past the post and i have nothing. Is that the geniuses here dont know how to do this or they didnt read it yet ?
Common, this is in no way "noob friendly" forum says. If you want me to believe in the previous line forever, then don't post anything, otherwise HELP me. Is there no one out there who can solve a simple problem or are they not willing to do anything, I think I have already waited for a month and i think it was plenty time for at least one reply or suggestion. You guys are dissapointing me
