While waiting for Root..Landscape Carousel? - HTC EVO 3D

I have been extremely impressed with the 3dvo so far..EXCEPT: the whole landscape thing. When the 3.0 kingdom Roms were being built, It seemed like you had to make a choice: landscape Rosie, or full 3.0 carousel. Apparently HTC made a choice as well, except we don't even have Landscape in the app drawer...Lame.
Anyway, I was checking out a HTC flyer at Best Buy yesterday, and the Sense 3.0 on that has it all: portrait and carousel scrolling, AND full portrait and carousel app drawer. It ran and looked perfect, and on a single core device. Why shouldn't we have the same thing? While at the Best Buy, I noticed someone was signed in to the market, so I installed file expert and dropbox, and pulled copies of the Rosie .apk and the .odex for the .apk as well. Could this work on the 3d as well? While waiting on root, Maybe someone might give this a look if they're bored..Here's the original .apk:
http://db.tt/C8ThzDN
Here's the odex:
http://db.tt/hsRhF9n
Here's a zipped folder of the extracted .apk
http://db.tt/a4RvcQN
I know this should go into Q&A, but I think the devs who might be interested in this are gonna be glued here for the next few days for sure, so I wanted to help the chance that it was at least looked at.
Thanks.

great idea man!!! bookmarked

Bookmarked as well!

would it also make it possible for a true 3d carousel since 3d only works in landscape? Maybe i am getting ahead of myself...

Hey mazook. The flyer Rosie quite a but different than the regular Sense 3.0 Rosie of your 3d. I'm not saying it won't work, but it will take some elbow grease. That Rosie has 5 interchangeable buttons, much like Launcher Pro or other home replacement as opposed to all other previous Rosies, where we had three and they were set in function. This Rosie is similar to the leaked doubleshot Rom (info aka misfit).
While I think I can make it to where it will install, I can't guarantee it will work correctly. Plus, I don't have a phone to test on.
Over on the Evo OG forums I have a thread started for theming be Sense UI while unrooted, a situation similar to all the 3ds as of now. Currently I am unrooted but running a custom Rosie with 4x5 workspace along with other edits to the UI. :-
While I believe this to be a fun challenge, I believe that root will be here sooner than you think and then it will be much easier for devs to play with this Rosie.

[REQ] Lockscreen. From Sense 3.0

I thought that it would be a really good addition for TSM Parts. On my tablet so I can't really link any videos or demos. But its pretty neat and I've seen it on my friend's droid Eris, so why not on the fascinate?
I know nothing about the technical aspects of how to port something etc, but I thought I'd thought I'd throw this idea out there.
Sorry for the post in dev section. I know the devs don't really look in any other sections. So yeah.

Don't know how difficult something like that is to port, but the reason you've seen it on an Eris is because it's an HTC phone with Sense... I would imagine that's pretty easy to port over
I imagine it's buried deeply in Sense's framework so I think porting it would be difficult, if not impossible. It would be cool though. The more lockscreen choices the better.

I guess this means you have never READ THIS? On topic, it is only possible to mimic a sense lock with what is available within the touchwiz frameworks (nitsuj17 has proven that very well). But no, a sense lock can't be ported to our device with the use of tw frameworks.
good day.

As for the op s original question... is it impossible? I used to yes to a lot if these things in pre sbrissen days... but now ill just say its unlikely
Most sense related things are extremely hard or too difficult to get working because of how heavily they are tied to the htc frameworks and resources
At best it would be too work for someone to get it working... so I doubt anyone would really take a stab at it... but then again who knows

It's actually quite simple to get it ported and booting. It's just that NOTHING will work, and it'll be laggy. With a ton of time invested in it, it probably could be done, but it'd be extremely difficult.
Either way, what we have now is spectacular, just that it'd be pretty sick to see some sense integration. Especially that lockscreen. The launcher can be replaced, as well as icons and system menus etc. Not lockscreens. Thanks for all the answers people!

[REQ] HTC Sense

Ive seen it done on other android devices, So why not on a Atrix?
On which other devices did you saw the Sense?
The sense is a close code project of HTC, and can not realy be installed successfuly on non-HTC devices.
You can use themed launchers that has the looks and sometimes the widgets of the sense, as showed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053409&highlight=sense
but actually install Sense on devices that dont come with sense in the first place is not really possible (to be more accurate, it is even quite complicate to put sense on devices that do come with lower versions of sense or sensed android....).
wow, i searched "HTC sense" in this forum and the FIRST result (other than your topic) was:

Not to stick up for the OP but he is talking about actually potting sense to atrix. Your post above is about a mock sense using different launchers and themes

Here is a Sense rom for the Nexus One:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995445
I have the official sense launcher, for dext, getting home ill try it on the atrix
The Sense framework is deeply embedded. I see that there may be a Nexus port but that's a developer phone with tons of active devs. We haven't even achieved an unlocked bootloader so Sense is as far out of reach as it comes.
If you're looking for Sense your best bet is to get an HTC device that supports it natively. rmk40 has a Sensation now and is super pumped to start developing for it. He always develops extremely clean, fast and highly optimized ROMS with relative tweak and minimal bloat. I'm positive that once the Sensation bootloader is unlocked he'll be pumping out the good stuff. I can't wait!

I know there are some tweaks and similar apps out there but it just doesn't compare. People ***** and moan about Sense being slow and bloated, but rmk40's ROMs are absolutely beautiful. Now that we have a lot more tweaks for our Atrix devices I'm still really pleased, but I still desire the HTC Sense experience again. I freeze lots of apps but things like the Social Dialer and other widgets are just too beautiful to pass up.

I want to develop for the Thunderbolt

Hey guys, basically I'm here to ask what kinda roms most users of the Thunderbolt like to use. I been playing with an idea to do something for yall. I don't have a Thunderbolt though so it wouldn't be anything sharp like ICS. I would probably want to do something based off of yalls OTA just to sort of get the feel for things first. I've did about 8 roms for the HTC Droid Incredible so I could kinda find my way without to much help I guess.
Anyways, I'm not sure if I will or not. i just wanted to see what yall think first.
I'll put in a poll to help decide.
well the answer to will I work on this device is starting to look pretty much answered, lol. We'll see though.

Thats a good concept. I just wouldn't want to put to much effort into something that I would never get to see or use my self especially if others here don't really want it. But I'm just gonna leave this open for a little while longer. Who knows, maybe I'll get a hundred votes tonight, lol
one thing that absolutely kills a rom for me is if I am unable to change apn settings
this is because I need to change them for mms to work on my carrier (cricket). If I cant change em, i cant use the rom. That is one thing i liked across yours and jermaines roms.
I knew instantly when i got my dinc I was a sense fan (in my opinion its way better than aosp interface) but as sense versions got higher 2.0 2.5. 3.0......... It really slowed my phone down compared to aosp roms...................... and then i found the minimalist roms............. and i was in heaven
so make a minimalist sense rom............... lol
I got rid of my inc before i found your roms but have been loading them on my friends inc, and i can say that they were smooth for me. Wouldn't mind dropping one of yours on my thunderbolt. After you figure your way around maybe a possible sense 3.5 rom! Just saying that'd be great. haha
I really like gingeritis3d by chingy510.. He has slowed down on his development do to school though.
What I like about his rom is that it is 2.1 based. 2.1 roms run alot better on my tb. He has added the 3d carrousel which I think most people look for and he incorporated the sexy smooth rosie that was developed by someone else here on xda.
The rom could benefit with more tweaks options, like 4g toggle and more quick settings. just my 2 cents. Thanks for your interest in deving for the bolt!
I personally use liquid gingerbread, its fast, light, and highly customizable. Please please please stay away from sense 3.5.
I know ill get flamed but please include the music player with beats Some people like that "eq" setting, and if they don't like it they don't have to use it.
Second the above post not a fan of sense 3.5

More importantly, some documentation on producing skins would be nice. I'm kind of curious about the process of making skins for Sense 4 and so far from googling I can't find much about it other than people do it. I've picked out the skin APKs and unpacked them, but I'm not sure what's involved with packing them back up since I don't do any android app development and these are probably a step beyond that even being that they don't really provide anything at all other than resources, and I'm sure there are all kinds of "gotchas" that you can run in to.

Sense 5 opinions

How do you guys like it? I'm still tempted to go bareback and toss sense out. I gave it a shot, awesome job guys, but don't like how it wants to stuff facebook in my face all the time. If there is a way to reorganize the main page I haven't seen it. Ended up nandroiding back to meanbean 3.09 for now. Runs slick as glass. If I download and install the bareback superlte does that include the camera drivers so there is no loss in quality/functionality?
Also what is svn lol. I just downloaded the sense 5 port directly to my phone and flashed it, s-off, but I keep reading Bout svn. Is that update software? With meanbean I just used the ota updater.
Sorry kinda new

I absolutely love it.
I don't use Facebook either, so I froze it using app quarantine from the play store and it doesn't pop up anywhere anymore.
Svn is a way to get the latest updates without having to download the whole file. It downloads only the parts that have been updated reducing download time.
You also get downloads in advance.
Switching main screen is in the pinch on home screen widgets layout. You hold the screen you want selected in that window and drag it to main.
I love sense 5. Smoothest ROM I've ever had, especially with the arc reactor kernel.
I currently also have a 7582 quadrant score because of the ROM.
Turtlesvn is a svn client (I think that's its name) from there follow the thread listed about svn to get it set up.
I will never go back to sense 4.5 or aosp, they are farrrrr behind sense 5 and I know when you get it figured out you will agree.
Have fun!

svn is a version control system that developers use to check in their code. It allows other devs to pull the changes down to their machines to make sure they're working with the latest files. The sense 5 repository is public, so anyone can pull down the files needed to flash the rom, but it's still intended more for the developers.

I love Sense 5. Personally, I think it's the best thing to happen to Sense. It feels like Cyanogenmod and HTC had a baby. It's zippy, it's smart, it's gorgeous to look at, and it's simple (For some people, too simple lol http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-sense-5-app-drawer-making-simple-complicated )
Link feed is pretty neat I have to say. I can't wait for a working gallery so I can see in person how the zoe moments work. And I can't wait to see how the devs theme it.

I think it's the best version of sense yet. I hate sense and only used it when I needed to do something that wasn't working in AOSP, AOKP, etc. Sense 5 is actually very handy and flexible. The development of the port seems to be coming along very nicely and my hat's of to all of them!
Also, igotlostintampa has done a kicka$$ job of putting together a great FAQ that has helped me greatly in getting this to be a DD.

I definitely like it. My only complaint is I can't set blink feed as a "middle" panel for a home screen with pages to the left and right of it.

Sense 5 is the first OEM skin I've ever used that I feel is as cohesive and attractive as stock Android. It's better than Touchwiz, better than not-Blur, better than Optimus UI, and most importantly, WAY better than any prior version of Sense. I think I've finally found an AOSP replacement. I was actually planning to buy an Optimus G on eBay and sell this phone, but Sense 5 has convinced me to stick with the Evo. Using Arc Reactor kernel 0.41 (1.7) along with Sense 5, this phone is pretty close to the G performance-wise despite only having 2 CPU cores.

I initially said I liked Sense 5, but have since changed my mind. I don't like the blink feed being forced on me. I can't remove it nor can I change what page it is. I feel as if HTC just watered Sense down. It is very light. Not so much a UI anymore, buy more of a skin or theme similar to Touchwiz. I know this move will be praised by some, but if you're a fan of Sense, you might be disappointed as I am. I like the Sense widgets. Now they are either watered down to look more AOSP or simply gone. No HTC bookmarks, no HTC Music. Calendar looks weak. I keep flashing the newest daily in an attempt to like it (as this is the future) but I keep coming back to my nandroid. I give the Devs all the respect in the world and this rant is in no way a reflection of my thoughts to their hard work to bring the port to us. I'm grateful to have the ability to try it.

OK. Back to AOKP for me. Tried it for about 2hrs to check it out, and the devs have done an amazing job, but sense is still painful compared to AOKP to me. HTC did do better with multitasking, a lot (unless it was the wicked xda devs that fixed that). Still, sense is too blocky and in my face for me to use.
That said, there were a few cool new features, like if you have a contact that is Google and Facebook , sense gives you option to pick which icon pic. Cool, but doesn't stand a chance against AOKP/Rootbox/slim bean/CM.
Wish I knew what all the sense users see. Hell, there's not even an email widget (which 4.1.2+ has now).

I want to move AOSP full time but I can never get mms, mms over WiFi and gps to work as well as sense can.
I love the theme chooser and wish I knew had to port some of those themes over to sense. Much more involved than doing an image replacement in winrar.
