Just wanted to get an idea of what apps you guys use on a day to day basis on this Badboy.
Ill start it off.
Gmail
Browser
Dolphin HD
Pulse
Evernote
Reader
Gmaps
Chrome to Phone
Netflix
Youtube
Pandora
TuneIn Radio
Wifi Analyzer
Just got my View yesterday so I'm still breaking it in.
Whats on your Flyer/view ?
Rooted ? Custom rom ?
Thanks guys.
Here is what I use on a regular basis... See screenshot.
Stock ROM, unrooted. Using GO launcher (has to download it on my phone first and backup/transfer to the Flyer) with a honeycomb theme.
Not displayed, Dolphin Browser HD (mapped to browser button on lower right) , SwiftKey for tablets, Connectbot, and Mint.com's application...

Has anyone had luck installing some of the Tablet specific apps made for honeycomb via apks ? There's a few apps I'd like to try out. How about launchers such as launcher pro or ADW etc..
Really nice free news feed app just released. Worth giving a look

not compatible for me on stock GB, WiFi only.

Try apk listed in op on this thread

End up installed using the apk from post 3. Google currents is amazing
the market version is USA only
Works fine on my EVO View. Debating which will be my go to app now, Currents or Pulse
The UI in Currents is pretty dope I must say, but Pulse seems to be better at updating the various feeds

You can change the timing on updates. Mine was defaulted to only update when charging when I installed, and to only check every 6 hours.
So far, I think currents blows pulse away. Time will tell.
I never used the Andriod version of Pulse... didn't to pay for it.
I thought the iPad version allowed you to add your own RSS feeds...
Hopefully Google builds in the functionality to sync or import Reader feeds.

the ability to add feeds from Google Reader is already there (add, scroll down to "Google Reader") :S
what i find shocking (or loling) is that you can't mark items as read, just like on Pulse, which makes both apps nothing more than eye candy, or only useful for people who just want a cursory glance at what's happening in the world and aren't really concerned about content
In case you haven't noticed lately the average attention span for media users these days appears to be about half that of the common fruit fly, so eye candy is exactly what most apps are trying to achieve.

are they still called 'generation y'? when will it accurately reflect the group and be upgraded to 'generation huh'?

You're right. I guess I didn't get that far down the list...
Interesting what they do with this... maybe something for Google TV.
Hmm, nice app. I think that I still prefer Pulse and Feedly, though.

Overall I'm liking it better than Pulse. To me, Pulse is better at updating the feeds you add manually, that arent already there from their selection of content.
For me, these feeds in Google Currents, updating a bit slower regardless of how often I set it to update to.
For example, I read ProPublica. On Friday at 6 pm. I updated the ProPublica app, as well as add it to my Pulse and Currents feed.
The app showed 4 new articles posted on Friday. Pulse had all of these available , while Currents only had the first two articles of that day.
Later on that evening, when I checked again, Currents had all 4 posts from Friday
I am noticing that more as well, even when I manually check for updates. I still like the layout of currents better, but when I am bored with nothing to read, I still find myself going to pulse when my currents aren't updating.
If you are on the official honeycomb update, could you please confirm which apps do not work properly. What about gameloft ones, they are notorious for the compatibility.
Asphalt 6 works great on rooted WiFi flyer with the latest honeycomb release
Only one I have a problem with out of my usual ones (list too big) is BBC iPlayer, and that just seems to be down to BBC themselves not adding the HC Flyer on the compatibility list yet.
I have noticed the lack of the old Google News and Weather app but found that in the forum after a quick search http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695349. It also works fine.
Edit: I have noticed that Google Earth has problems. The lower buttons for Look around and Zoom controls are missing, presumably under the new bottom bar! This is probably due to the same problem as in the PocketCloud thread, however they are fixing PocketCloud in next update.
ive found all my "borrowed" gameloft games have been removed by hc drm ,all worked flawlessly on gb.
bit o a bummer, dunno anyway to get round it just yet.
dont seem to be able to buy anything on market, just keeps saying update my cc details and voids the sale.
nothing wrong with my payment details tho.maybe they dont like uk anymore.
the builtin market with the official hc update doesnt seem to find much for the flyer and yet when using ffox, opera etc to go direct to market all the top stuff is there to see.
bit confuddled by it at the moment, wait for a way to root it n go from there i guess.
Couple of app incompatabilities
So far ive found a couple of issues with apps on my honeycomb flyer compared to my honeycomb galaxy tab 8.9.
ADW Launcher EX (see attached image)
1. The app drawer button that should be in the upper left is missing
2. the buttons on the top right for search, add widgets, wallpaper, etc are missing
3. The main app dock does not rotate to bottom of the screen in landscape mode
Astro File Manager
1. App menu bar at the top of the screen is missing, looks almost like its been pushed off the top because of resolution rather than scaling
Im sure there are more, but those are the apps i tend to use the most that are not stock htc apps.
Anyone have any ideas on the ADW launcher issues? i would really like to use that one because of the dock (really miss the persistent shortcuts on every screen like the flyer GB sense had)
Oops, this didn't come up in my search. I started one too, sorry

You have not done much research before throwing these out there. You can't just install the old app from a GB backup...,
just off the top of my head:
dolphin, weatherbug and swiftkey have tablet version , work on the HC flyer
dropbox, pulse, read it later, ebay and twitter works on the HC flyer
I run these on my HC flyer so your report that they don't work is incorrect
Perhaps you have not done a proper install of HC or the apps.
thanks for the update. When I first saw that there was a update available, I wondered if it was real... I got one that was fake a few weeks ago and nearly bricked my flyer.
Then...in the.notes for the updates I didnt see anything to tell me that I needed to uninstall anything. Perhaps it is a well known thing that you have to do that.
I haven't been able to get MC3 to work on my View (3.2.1). Or most Gameloft games for that matter.

For anyone having trouble with Pulse, try switching to dark mode, and back (or vice versa). For some reason that brought back the text in the articles for me...
My tab's Flyer than yours (unless this is posted in a Flyer thread... Then it's just as Flyer...)

No idea what you are talking about, honestly.
If you are going from GB to HC all of your apps should have been wiped. Don't try to reinstall from a Titanium backup of GB , that will cause all sorts of havoc on your HC , just install apps from the market fresh.

I've never used Titanium backup, and completely wiped data before the HC upgrade. All installs were fresh from the market.

Can't get Grand Prix Story by Kairosoft to download for some reason on Honeycomb.

this was same with GB also... not all gameloft games are compatible with flyer... dunno y may b some resolution stuff... but other games sega , konami , EA works fine
The Gameloft stuff is kind of cheeky. I got Backstab from that awesome Ten Pence Google Sale and it only works on my Samsung Galaxy SII.
Plus the stuff I bought in the past via their wap site doesn't even show up in the Android Market.
AVG antivirus pro doesn't work. Very frustrated because they haven't updated the tablet version in months, that's why I used the normal version. Now I feel vulnerable only using the free version...
Wave launcher as well...

AVG? really? The reason they don't update it is that there are virtually no viruses out there and it really useless unless you are downloaded black market garbage.
Yep. But it's not just an antivirus app. It has app backup functionality. Also scans for spam texts, safe search on web, & a phone locator. I used AVG because I use it on my laptop. I prefer pro versions of any app, even if its just to remove ads.
I've been using the Flyer for a while now and I am really happy with it.
Facebook for Android always had a weird way of showing on the tablet (at least for me?) when compared to the way it displays on my Desire Z.
For example, the Flyer Facebook app won't display timeline-enabled profiles. And it does not use the new layout Facebook rolled out a few months ago.
With the latest update though, in landscape, it only uses half the screen!
So I was wondering, is anyone else having these problems, or am I the only one?
So I am the only one with this issue? D'you have any ideas how to fix it?
Hi,
Can't help you other than to say that I see the same issues.
Regards
Iain
I have the same issue on my Evo View...but I bet they probably didn't optimize it for tablets yet.

The thing is... It's not that it's not optimized for tablets. I wouldn't mind if it displayed the same way as it does on my DZ. At lease I could see the Timelines and stuff.
I can't even see photo albums details etc

So, the layout seems to have been improved with the newest version of Facebook.
Timelines are still not displayed and the landscape orientation is not working properly.
With the new Facebook for Android 2.0, all the problems have disappeared! Everything is displayed properly, portrait or landscape. Finally.
I bought a Kindle Fire HDx on Black Friday (got a good deal).
So far I really like it, but not having my Google apps is almost a deal breaker (YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Play Books, Music, Chrome, etc).
I read a few posts about how you can sideload google apps.
I did that and I was able to get YouTube, Chrome and Gmail on my Kindle Fire HDx.
But it's really buggy, Youtube won't let me sign in and I keep getting an error randomlly that the Google Play services has stopped responding.
The biggest thing is that the apps I sideloaded look super low res in the carousel next the HD icons. Is there a way to fix that?
I'm really having misgivings about this device. I really love the specs and the screen is gorgeous but not having access to all my Google stuff is tough.
I noticed there is root for 8.9. Will 7 get root access soon? Will that help with some of the issues I'm having?
Any help/advice is welcome!
Thanks!

Google Apps are a work in progress and as you mentioned there are bugs to work out. I would recommend taking a look at this thread for the latest joint progress on them. As far as root is concerned the Kindle Fire HDX 7 has gotten root I would recommend checking out this thread for a simple utility that will allow you root access. Let me know if you still have any questions I'll be happy to help you out.

I unfortunately don't how to make the icons HD, I have that same problem it's because Amazon expects people to just use their ecosystem apps which all have HD icons, there may be a way to modify the Amazon home launcher code to do so but that would be a lot of work for relatively little gain but might be fun to attempt.
Right now I think that if Google apps are real important to you, you would be better off with a Nexus 7. You trade the better hardware for seamless Googleness.
You have to hope that the Play Store is coming soon, but if the Amazon world isn't enough, then I would make the change to the Nexus. For me, the limited google apps with Fire OS is not a problem.

You could install Vire Launcher, which is one the few alternative home screens that work well on the HDX. It eliminates the carousel and uses higher res icons similar to those on a regular Android home screen. It also has its own wallpapers which work on the HDX, unlike other launchers.
