ok, am a newbie here and this is my first post, so please be gentle if i go wrong or violate any rule of the forum. basically, i wish to know what are the applications that we can strip out of the MiniCM6 ROM. i got rid of many .apk's which i felt was not actually needed by me. Eg - Development.apk, DPS Manager .apk, CMWallpapers.apk, LiveWallpapers.apk, etc.
i also got rid of the stock MiniCM camera app and replaced with the Stock SE Mini camera app...the picture quality has improved significantly than the MiniCM's bundled camera app.
Could you pls shed some light on how exactly you ported the stock SE camera to miniCM6 as i ve been trying this for a while now but still not able to. Thanks.
please make a rom, call it "Minimalist MiniCM" for the average joe. ill beta test!

get root explorer v2.15,install it and open it.tap "mount as r/w", next go to your root/system/app (again tap "mount as r/w" if it is r/o) and delete the "camera.apk" there. then, copy the attached file (DO not install now) to root/system/app. next, "click and hold" the copied file and open "permissions" and tick all the permissions. next click the camera.apk and select "install". done!!
enjoy your Camera!!!!....the only problem is that if you have to delete your file, u have to navigate it manually and delete it, u cannot delete it in the "camera preview" mode, it will FC the camera.

that is a nice idea, but since it is just a stripped down version of a ROM, will i not be violating any rules or something????....u know, i am a noob, not very much familiar with the rules of the forum
since i have uninstalled MOST of the apps, my battery life has increased significantly. the available space in phone storage is 202 MB!!!!!....i even got rid of MOST of the "data" involving apps including GMaps, street plugin & twitter(Silly, i know!!! but i actually don't need them and they run on the background to eat up the battery and also my available data).
the overall experience is the cell runs faster and the battery is almost running for 1 and a half day with moderate to heavy use.
i am already convinced, make a rom AND RELEASE IT TO THE PUBLIC! plz
My changes:
The following apps are removed:
1.AndroidTerm.apk
2.CarHomeGoogle.apk
3.CarHomeLauncher.apk
4.CMWallpapers.apk
5.Development.apk
6.DSPManager.apk
7.GenieWidget.apk
8.GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk (don't get anxious, u WILL get a google search box, EVEN if i removed this )
9.HTC_IME_lo15.apk
10.Launcher2.apk
11.LauncherPro -0.8.4.1.apk
12.LiveWallpapers.apk (livewallpaperpicker.apk is still there, so u can pick your own LWP, just uninstalled the included livewallpapers)
13.MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
14.MAPS.apk (silly, i know )
15.MUSIC.apk (replaced it with the 2.3 Gingerbread music app)
16.Radio.apk
17.Soundback.apk
18.SoundRecorder.apk
19.street.apk
20.LatinIME.apk (installed the gingerbread keyboard instead)
21.Camera.apk (uninstalled the MiniCM camera app and replaced it with the stock SE x10 mini camera app. the quality of the pictures are better and the video recording got back the continious autofocus back )
22. VoiceSearch.apk
23.VoiceDialer.apk
Added:
1. Simple Task Manager .apk
2.App 2 SD pro.apk
3.Stock SECamera.apk
4.Gingerbread keyboard.apk
5.Zeam Launcher (it is the lightest launcher which incoporates multitouch "pinch to zoom")
6.RootExplorer v2.15 .apk
7.SlideIT keyboard .apk (Swype replacement for x10 mini)
My question is, can i release it WITHOUT offending respectable developers and the forum rules????
who would it offend? as long as you are using only free apps though. :S
Thanks for the detailed instructions. Is the picture quality really that different? Can you please post 2 pics if possible?

Give proper credits and links to the original ROM in your main post and I doubt anybody will be offended
As long as you give people credit it's fine, everything is open source, thats the beauty of Android.
Having said that, I don't really see the point of doing it! It would be much easier for people wanting a stripped version just to uninstall the apps themselves. Get Titanium Backup from the market and uninstall all the .apk files listed in a previous post and you've done it! Much easier than having to backup everything, and install a Rom then fiddle with all your settings again to get them all how you like them
Sent from my X10 Mini Pro
Also, you wouldn't be able to release one that had Root Explorer pre-installed, that's a paid app (and well worth paying for! )

use rootexplorer
I don't like Gallery 3d or justpictures or others, I prefer the stock album, but with 2.1 is very slow (i have 4000+ pictures) and so...:
1) Go in system/app and copy and paste in your sdcard your SemcCamera.apk and then raname in to SemcCameraOr.apk
2) Move SemcCamera.apk from /system/app to data/app. (with rootexplorer)
3) Reboot and do regular uninstall.
4) Install from your sdcard 1.6 SemcCamera (SemcCamera 1.6.apk)
5) Launch album and wait some time. (you can see a little lens!! Wait for this lens!! Don't procede if you don't see the lens in the notification area, wait...)
Now your album is faster than the others (new album, justpictures, gallery 3d...etc...), but you can't use your camera, so...
6) Now uninstall SemcCamera
7) Install your SemcCamera (point 1)
8) Play with the your new fast album!
... But it's not difficult and i hope that someone can improve it in some steps,
Thanks
First SemecCamera.apk is 1.6
Second SemcCamera.apk is 2.1 (the original file for new fw 2.1!!)
my album is not slow i can bet is faster then your 1.6...
when i open my Gallary 3D pictures are loaded when the apps comes up
so no waiting time for me sir!
maybe remove some trash from internal memory it will speed up you phone

nice mod......tried with my x10 mini pro. i'm using class 4 8gb card. i try to put 1000++ pics inside, it only takes a few seconds to load.
Would be great if there was a method to get the Album (fast version) working on Android 2.2.
Your 2.1 from the first post can be installed (1.6 also but it gives a force close when starting up).
But the 2.1 version force closes when I want to open a picture..
can any one tell me the way to get this 2.1 version apk file in froyo final .... I tried it doesnt get installed
Hey guys if your gallery 3d dont load fast enough the fotos then its probably not zipalligned get this very good app from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868423 and chek the app if its zipalligned or not if not ADB contoller can do the job. After that its speed is greatly inproved
All credits go to the Mask1 for this great app

Works great on stock 2.1!
I don't have a lot of photos on my phone, but I guess my 16GB microSD is just too slow for the stock Album. I had already given up on it, and moved to Gallery 3D (which I'm not that fond of). For some reason this trick works and the stock Album is now blazing fast compared to Gallery 3D!
Now the only thing that's missing from the Album app is multitouch support!
Sorry guys, ill only work on CyaNoComb now , the screenshots bellow are from froyocomb, but cyanocomb looks similar.

nice work i will test it tomorow
im giving it a go, been using owain's and slade's roms (and the other dev's work) for a while now. Apologies for not posting feedback, I end up browsing these forums late at night on a school night hunting for updates aha, and i'm too tired to test after installing until the next day.
Anyway, I notice there's the MIUI camera still in there next to the SE camera app. This can be removed by deleting the camera.apk in /system/app/.. which im sure you know as you've done all the rest ^^ just pointing out incase you didn't notice.
Something i've noticed recently though with roms is that although they're listed as practically stable/fast. Quite a lot of the time i get freezes/crash and then reboot. ¬¬ THOUGH, that's probably because i haven't cleanly installed these roms in a while (just been installing custom zip.. rather than the whole procedure of restore with sepc, rooting, getting xrecovery etc.
Thanks though, it's certainly more feels a bit quicker and it's serving as my replacement for now

Well, that's not a MIUI camera, it's android stock, that actually it's pretty good , but guys, we have 2 cameras and 2 galleries, what do you suggest, let it with 2 cameras and galleries, or deleting SE one, that cant record video?
Thanks for your opinion, and btw if you're facing crashes & reboots, put processor frequency, on 600 mhz.
Actually one excellent feature of miui is the player that can show lyrics. not that bad after all!
XDA ♥
Yeah, everything have nice things, but I just cant live with all that apps, 5 for music, 5 for gallery , So i choose what i think is better, and i think HC music player, it's kinda better on interface
Next release won't have album or camera by SE, only Android default
Ohhh, sorry my bad.
Edit: ahh not used to this app, sorry.
Video recording works fine for me in the se camera app :/. Personally, I'm not a fan of clutter, so I've removed the android camera app etc. Which I don't use with root explorer. It's not hard to do for people with root explorer, so there's probably not too much need to re-cook? the rom with a couple of apps less. I do love the music player . As for crash and reboots, i tried 600mhz, but then it gets quite laggy in animations etc. and still crashes.

This is a simple mod I made to the stock android 2.2 camera application. It binds the hardware search button to take pictures, since the phone doesn't have a hardware camera button.
I couldn't find something already to accomplish this for me and I figured others may also want a hardware button as I did.
Caveat: The stock 2.2 camera can only take up to 5MP shots or at least that's what it reports. I personally don't mind too much since it's largest use case would self portraits or when you're out with friends.
At any rate I hope it's useful.
*Update*
Okay I've updated and added a few things.
- It will now write to your actual sdcard "sdcard-ext" not the internal one
- I now have for both the 2.2.2 DX2 and the 2.3.3 DX2 for whichever your on.
- I have versions with and without notification bars. I don't like full screen in portrait personally.
I also decided to attach the stock the AOSP gallery I have been using
- This has a 2.2.2 and 2.3.3
- It also has notification bar or full screen
Please pick the proper version. NotificationBar in the name denotes that it is not full screen.
Hope you enjoy.

TL;DR Version: This wont replace stock. It uses same permissions as the regular one. I assume (GPS) geo-tag and (SMS) for tight picture message integration.
********************************************************************
-------------------------- Long Version --------------------------------------------
********************************************************************
It doesn't remove the stock because it's not the same package name. Android is designed to not let two applications of the same name (package name not display name) reside on the same system. If you try to install a second one it will assume it is an update and replace the old. This will fail because my signing key is not the same as the one on your stock camera application.
You'll have two install cases:
First on a stock android or one without a renamed camera package. This application will not replace it because it's a different package name (com.android.camera vs com.android.cameramod. It will simply run along side it.
Now if you're running this on the Droid X2 or another motoblur I believe the package is renamed on there to com.motoblur.camera or something to that effect. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
As for the permissions those are stock permissions of the AOSP camera application. You can confirm this by going into settings > applications > camera > show permissions.
I don't know them all off of the top of my head but I think (anyone feel free to correct me)
- Your messages - read SMS or MMS (for strong picture message integration ?)
- Your location - fine (GPS) location (geo-tagging pictures)
- Storage - modify/delete SD card contents (to save pictures)
- Phone Calls - read phone state and identity (prevent use while on call ?)
- Hardware controls - record audio, take pictures (it says it right under it...)
- System tools - prevent phone from sleeping (as does this one, obvious no ?)
*EDIT*
Note that it doesn't have network access. If the application was malicious and data mining you how would
it report any information back ?
Ok thanks for the clarification. I am still new to android. I also thought this was modifying the original camera app in some way not actually replacing it. Thnaks for clearing everything up.
@kc9bvi you're modifying the original camera app on the X2 ? Theme or the source ? I'm interested in the latter if you've access to it.
Isn't this just a different cam app?
I installed it and it gave me the stock android cam app when I opened it. The X2 cam app isn't perfect, but I think its better then the plain android one. Is there a way to modify the existing cam app, to make the search button take the pic?
This is not the Droid X2 camera app. It's not widescreen, there's no continual auto focus and the controls are different. It does work as it says it should, however.

Yes it opens the stock one because that's what it was built from. As for modifying the BlurCamera I have considered it and started looking into it. This can be done one of two ways, first and quite obvious if someone has the BlurCamera source I can use, second by using apktool and modifying the code in smali. To do this I need a deodexed BlurCamera.apk. I was trying to do it myself and got this error. If someone can help me with it or has a deodexed 2.2 BlurCamera.apk I can use I would like to try.
The error output is attached if anyone can help with it.

I've updated it. Check the main post.

A very sincere thank you to the OP for making these apps with so many options. Your work.is greatly appreciated!
Myself and some others who run Cognition on their GS2 have reported that Lookout Mobile Security has found a Trojan in the Camera (hacked camera silent edition by potatoman as far as i know) this has just flashed up on my screen a few mins ago, in all the time ive had a smartphone and had Lookout ive never had a trojan so you'll appreciated the concern, i tried to uninstall but it wouldn't allow me (it's build into the ROM no doubt so would have to uninstall)
A concern no doubt, ive frozen it in Titanium Backup for now but i need some assistance folks what should be done in this instance, i could flash another ROM but id sooner stay with Cognition for now.

Its simple, use root explorer and replace camera.apk in system/app folder
Does anyone think this could be related to the auto-upload pics to Google+ feature?
This camera seems very popular here in XDA. I would just ignore the warning. But yeah, if you are paranoid, there is always the option of changing the apk.
I Posted this in the Cog thread too, but since there's 2 places to talk about it, here goes:
So full disclosure: I have no idea what I'm doing. Good start right?
I use LBE privacy guard to control permissions on a per app basis. After seeing the posts about camera.apk, I downloaded and ran Lookout, and found the same information as reported above, that camera.apk was infected with Trojan:Android/Bgserv.A.
I googled it and found : http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00002116.html
I noted the app permissions, which is basically everything, and compared it to what camera.apk was requesting on my phone. Camera.apk for me only requests access to sms and location, no network access and no phone info access.
I'm not sure, but this might be a false positive. Like I said though, I have no real experience with this stuff. I'm just poking around.
I think it is just a false alarm, nothing serious. I get this also on 2 other modified programs. And the other 2 is just translated. I think it is due the repackaging.

No. The camera app doesn't upload your pics - the Google+ app does it.

I hardly think Lookout would flag this as being malaware if it wasn't, i don't subscribe to this "false positive" way of thinking, my opinion is better be safe than sorry.

i did say from here on in, this is a genuine community for the most part, however you cant be sure there are not people on here who create trojans inside apps, i just noticed with this camera app the amount of permissions it asks for is way too much just for a camera.

Verizon and Motorola's sites both list "720p video recording" as a feature.
What happened to the 720p option?
Can the camera be modded to re-include this option?

When u press menu while in video or camera mode and bring up the settings u should have a choice of which video resolution u would like to use. Unless you don't have the same camera.apk that came with hour phone it may be different then. It should be there though.
Thanks for the reply, however, it is not there. I the highest resolution I have is 640x480.
It's not a problem for me alone evidently, it is listed in this issues thread as well:

The only time I lost being able to GD record((or choose it)) was when I changed my camera apk due to flashing a rom. I pushed the old camera.apk back into system app ..
And it was the camera.apk that I had saved from the prerooted gb update.
Im sorry im not ofit much help. Maybe try sbf and reflash the preroot. Im curious as to whether there might have been different versions floating around. Go mine from a link at droidforums.net I believe.
When I get done work I will see if I can send you a copy of my camera.apk to see id it helps after u push it into system/app if you would like. It would be around 8pm just check ur private messages here
I am using P3Droid's pre-rooted GB SBF. I looked over the forums over there, and cannot find any mention, but I did find mention of it in the thread above. I wonder if I can find a stock camera apk...how would I install that? I am sure it cannot be installed just by opening it.

I will see if I can get that to u on my break today.
It is REALLY easy if I have root explorer. Best app I ever paid for.
Just need to place the apk in the system/app folder and change the permission for it. I will give details later in private message.
Will it harm anything to use the Froyo camera instead of the GB? I am running 2.3.3...
Oh, and it won't let me thank you again, so thanks!

Haha thank you. I don't believe anything bad will happen from using froyo cam. Just to be safe make a nandroid backup before u do it.
Also long press the camera you have and go to change permission just to see which boxes you need checked when you put in your new camera.apk.
No issues here same rom 720p is still the default as well as being selectable, just to throw a monkey wrench into the works

Same here, not sure what OP has going on. Standard GB 2.3.3 X2.
Okay. I was trying to just upload my apk into this thread but I can't seem to choose the file using my phone. My computer isn't working. If I can get to a comp I will do it asap or if I can find another way.
Im having issues recording 720p. I can click the option, even in the pre-rooted gb update. My issue is that I can not get good quality. After 15 or so seconds the video and audio become out of sync and the video "skips" for like 50ms and sometimes longer thus causing issues when uploading to Youtube and Facebook.
Sorry for Hijacking your thread, but this was already started and I felt it was appropriate. As to your question, it sounds like you have an incorrect camera app. You MAY need to flash/inject the camera/camcorder/gallery .apks.. To my knowledge, they all opperate together, because the options work off each other. Have u froze/deleted any of those .apks?
