[Q] Can't add microsoft exchange email account - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can add hotmail but not other microsoft exchange account. is there help on this?

bump. another question. Why can't social hub email display other windows live mail folders except the generic Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Trash. I don't even see junk.

exchange email account
sure, you can add one, I have two setup on my phone. Go into settings/accounts and sync/add account. There you can choose to setup any account you want, just scroll down to more accounts and choose microsoft exchange activesync and set it up. Manual setup works best, as auto detect likely will not find your necessary settings unless you IT guys really wanted to make it easy, (unlikely).
Just follow the onscreen directions and you will have it done in a few minutes.

I really can't. Even though I followed all the instructions written about POP and SMTP address. I suspect it's a port issue.

You shouldn't be asked about POP3 settings with an Exchange ActiveSync account. It sounds like you're doing something wrong.
Add the account by going to Settings > Accounts and sync > Add account (button at bottom of screen) > Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (you'll need to scroll down). You should not be inside Email or Social Hub when you do this. The Settings screen you need to go into is your phone's general settings screen.
On the first screen you'll be asked to enter your email address, password, domain and user name, and the address of your Exchange server. The only thing that's a bit unclear here is that you domain and user name should be in DOMAIN\user.name format.
I'd tell you what should be on later screens, but I only have 1 Exchange server to test against, and I'm not going to remove that account. Hopefully you'll be able to work things out from here.

POP3 != Exchange
Exchange Active Sync will be something like your work email if configured properly and given the appropriate permissions
POP3 is Hotmail and other random email hosting, you will most likely only need POP3

TP Email question

is there a way to have multiple email accounts on the tp? i have one of my hotmail accounts logged in. but when i try to go to add a new account for another hotmail account i have i go trhough the process. instead of adding it like my first email it goes online and i cant view pictures and it sucks compared to my original. i have to switch live ids if i wanna setup a different account in order to add gthe other email.
Is there a a program i can dl in order to do this? can i have a gmail account and hotmail account together or are we limited to 1 email that is tied directly to our tp?
Are trying to check your email through the web browser??
You can have as many pop/imap accounts as you want... you need to be using the built in copy of outlook... add each account separately
Makes sure you have pop or imap enabled in gmail or hotmail by checking the settings when you login over the web to each of those respective sites...
(ie: for gmail go to settings -> 'forwarding and pop/imap' -> enable IMAP)
From the Touch Flo 3D email tab tap Menu -> Accounts -> Accounts... -> Setup E-Mail. Add the incoming and outgoing mail server addresses, your username and password for the account, how much email you want to sync and you should be all set
I ran into the same problem. Have not figured it out yet. Evidently the built in email software does not allow two accounts under the same domain name. Ex" george @ verizon.net, and louie at verizon .net.
I have been able to set up multiple accounts, just not multiple accounts under the same domain name.
Is this what you are trying to do?
Yeah, it seems they don't let you have 2 hotmail accounts. But I do have more than one gmail account on there.
Here's one possible work-around:
Log on to your hotmail account on the pc. Then enable sending & receiving emails from other accounts as well. I have added my other hotmail account to it, and now get emails for both.

I have 1 hotmail & 2 gmail accounts, directly accessible and showing up on TF3D.
No problem putting 2 gmail accounts on, just a problem with 2 hotmail accounts, since you have to set those up through Windows Live App.
Has anyone figured out how to have two accounts with the same Domain Name Yet?
I didnt have a problem setting up 3 email accounts from the same domain. It's a personal domain. I unchecked find server settings automatically, set each as internet email, then followed the prompts. No problem with all three.

Multiple Email accounts with Exchange Server, Why Blackberry?

I've used BBC on My HTC TP2 for over a month and then WM Exchane sync with a gmail account also.
Although BBC provides a good option for push email, but it fails to provide
1. HTML mails
2. Links don't work within emails
3. In India with Vodafone in Delhi, HTC devices cannot have more than 3 email accounts.
4. You need to have multiple APN's at least 2, One for BBC, other for routine net surf.
5. With device like HTC TP2, HD2 etc without a D pad, next/ previous mail function annoying, close current email & then click next one to open
However I find WM Pushmail exchange better.
1. HTML mails
2. External links do work
3. PC type email interface
4. With devices w/o Dpad also, swipe across the screen changes to next email.
5. With a bit of work around you can have multiple emails on Exchange sync, with gmail, working as push mail
Create a new gmail account. In WM Activesync (disconnect from pc), in server settings create new exchange a/c with
Server address : m.google.com
u/name: [email protected]
password: your p/w
in Server setting choose only emails to sync.
You are done with creating exchange account to sync.
Now go to Schedule in Active sync
Set peak times as : As items arrive
Set Off-peak times as : As items arrive/ as per your choice
on bottom of this page Adjust peak times option is there, in which you may customize your peak hours.
Now on your PC login in your gmail account
Enter settings of gmail account
For the email accounts with pop/ smtp options available
go to Accounts and Import, here you can add accounts to
Check mail using POP3 option, select the desirable setting
For the email accounts without pop/ smtp options
go settings of that email, set forwarding to your this gmail id
Next step is to differentiate emails form different accounts say 5 accounts.
In gmail creat 5 labels indicating import/ forwarded email accounts name such as dinesh gm, dinesh yahoo etc.
Next in Gmail filter options create filter/ rule for each imported account
as
Matches: to[email protected])
Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "XXXX GM", Never send it to SpamCheck
Creat rule for all 5 accounts
In Gmail activate Multiple Inbox
Set pane 0 to Search Query as the label created " XXXX GM"
and same for rest of email accounts with respective labels.
Now Gmail stores all incoming msgs from different account with different labels, treated as folders by WM Exchange servers.
On your WM PPC go to Inbox of email exchange account created.
Click Menu> Tools > Manage Folders
(Sync at least once before this step)
You'll see all created labels for various email accounts on your PC in gmail account as separate folders in Manage Folder option. Check all the folders you want to sync
And VOILA you have multiple emails synced as PUSH mails to your WM device with any special Blackberry Connect service, no PINS etc.
Additionally it works on Normal GPRS/ EDGE connection delivering HTML emails
Any people say Windows Mobile or Phone now-a-days are waste of money. No they are the most customizable piece of design available.
Enjoy
Will you be notified of new messages?
I am forced to use Blackberry with my work because they don't let me have email on the exchange server. Blackberry is crap for many other reasons too....

yes all notifications are same which can be configured in the Start. sounds & notifications option in WM6.5
Interesting. Could u please explain step by step how to make it work on Rhodium? TIA
Nice,
I have this but....
Mails will be duplicated between your Inbox and the 'labeled box'.
Beware, when you are replying a mail, you are always use your gmail adress and not the one from the 'labeled box'

Remote Tracker opens Outlook instead of sending email silently

Newbie here having trouble with Remote Tracker 0.4.2-0 on my TMOUS HD2 and haven't found an answer yet. When I send email commands to RT, such as rt2#egp, my phone just sits there in standby and when I unlock it Outlook is open with the email message ready to send. Anyone have an idea why and what I need to do? When I go to Outlook Contacts>Menu>Options I get an error report, "A problem has occurred with poutlook.exe," then comes up with List view settings, that's it, I don't know if there is supposed to be more and not sure if this has anything to do with the message not being sent. Everything is stock except for a few added apps and I just did a hard reset before reinstalling my apps after some experimentation. I don't use Outlook or even set up an email account on phone and haven't made any tweaks I can think of that would effect Outlook.
I also noticed that the CELLID shows me to be in New Jersey when I'm actually in Texas, this doesn't seem to be of much use at all but I haven't tried changing CELLID settings from default.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I thought commands where you supply an email address (like, rt2#egp#[email protected]#password) would, if so configured, silently without intervention send to the supplied email addy without even having email setup in RT; however, I do have the email account in RT configured; I do not have Outlook, AOL, Yahoo, etc accounts set up in the HD2s mail app (I use Opera to go to my Hotmail account).
In RT's email setup I have only one option under Account, Activesync, is this correct?

no, you need an actual account set up that the phone can use to connect to an outgoing email server with. Just feeding it the email address you want to use is no good, as it has no m,eans to send to that address. Its a bit like giving a man with no telephone your phone number ad asking him to call you.
Choosing the activesync account wouldnt help either, as it would only send when the phone was copnnected and synced to outlook on a pc. (activesync isnt a real account, just an extension of teh outlook account on eth pc)

problem with emails loading (MSN)

My emails from my msn account sync fine when I first add the account to the touchpad email client. After I close the program and go back to it though it stops syncing new emails. The refresh icon constantly is revolving as well. I tried setting up the account through the auto setup and also through the microsoft exchange and the same thing happens either way. New msn emails show up on my iphone and then I wait and check the touchpad. They never show up. Any ideas?
I googled the problem and found one instance of someone having the same problem as me. Follow the link http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/295126-proper-hotmail-settings-touchpad-help.html
No one there seemed to be able to answer the question. Anyone here have any ideas?
My MSN mail syncs just fine along with my Yahoo Mail. WebOS set up a POP folder in my MSN account the first time it linked. Not sure why some are having issues. I just thought I would let you know that, at least for some of us, the MSN mail works fine.

Is your account an @msn.com or @hotmail.com. Mine is @msn.com. Not sure if it makes a difference or not.

problem solved
If anyone else is having this problem, it is solved. A user from the HP forums gave me the correct settings on how to set it up. For the server name, make sure you leave the https:// before the m.hotmail.com. These settings worked perfectly and I have not had a problem receiving MSN emails since.
"Is this a hotmail.com or live.com account? If so you need to set the account up as an exchange account with theses settings:
*
Account Type: Exchange
Server Name: m.hotmail.com
User Name: your entire email address
Password: your password
*
Under accounts you need to choose the items you want to sync: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, GAL (address lookup). I would delete out the account and re-create it fresh."

I read that if you set it up as an exchange account your emails will be shown only in text and not in html (with images, etc.), which sucks.

Yeah that is the one downfall but if you read the initial post I couldn't receive any emails at all. So I guess this is the next best solution until something else surfaces. Let me know if you find a better way to get msn to receive emails on the touchpad.

More of a general Android question....

I have done nothing but research since last night about how I can use ActiveSync for Exchange with a different port but can't seem to find an answer.
What annoys me more is that this can be done on the Apple iOS.... a dumbed down, off the shelf, user device but not on our devices.
The standard email.apk doesn't allow you to specify a port, only allows SSL on/off. I am running SSL over port 8081 due to my hosting ISP limitations.
K9 Mail will allow me to use a port but doesn't sync my contacts, calendar, etc... I really need ActiveSync!
Any one know of how we can get ActiveSync on Android to talk on a different port to the standards?
Thanks!
For anyone in the same boat as me.... I found a reasonable solution that works quite well.
1. Forward your domain email account from your domain to a Gmail account, authorise Gmail to send and receive for your domain email account (you can set it to default to reply from your domain email address). Two ways you can forward:
A: If you're hosting an exchange server you can create a contact in Active Directory, make that contacts email address the gmail account email address. Bring up the user properties of your domain email account, select Exchange General tab, select Mail Forwarding, then select the contact you just made. Apply all and that will forward to the Gmail account.
B: Put mail forwarding options on your domain host to forward your domain email account to the gmail account. This costs some money but not much (currently about $5 per year with Go Daddy).
2. Export your contacts from Outlook into a Windows CSV file, Gmail understands this file with no issues. Gmail will inherit all your contacts once this is done.
3. Setup the Gmail calendar with whatever specifics you need (time zone, etc).
4. Setup Gmail on the Android. It works like a dream... I've not found an issue with that setup yet and I get my email, calendar and contacts all sync'd happily
Really hope this helps someone.
