Just got my tb last night and right away loved it. After playing with it and getting a brief chance to play with the 4g I turned off the 4g since I was just outside the 4g coverage of philly. I did the *#*#4636#*#* method, idk if that matters.
Anyways, I was using wifi then for like an hour, turned wifi off, and since then I haven't been able to get 1x,3g or even 4g (when I tried turning it back on). what gives? is this another "outage" or is there something possibly wrong with my tb? when they went to activate it last night it did take several tries to find the network.
I believe there are issues currently, but I factory data reset will get your data back
I just got mine yesterday, I haven't turned on wifi yet. but my data doesn't work often already. I checked the status and it says data connection failed.
I'm already getting disappointed with my tb =[
every time, the data doesn't work, I turned my phone off and back on then it works.
oh, one time I tried to restart it, and if froze after the thunderbolt logo and the sound comes on. sigh*
I've done restart and tried airplane mode numerous times and neither worked. Haven't tried factory reset yet, if I get bored at work today I'll give that a shot. Thanks. Wasn't sure if it was just mine or a common problem.
Same data issue here got mine yesterday too hmmm what gives.
Anyway no point returning the phone for such a small issue that will be fixed in the future with updates.

Just rebooted the phone and data goes away, went to secret menu, press hard key menu turn off data connection off, turned off radio, waited for it to go off, turned back on, waited for it to come on then turned data on, then it worked.
Btw, if you live in an area with good 4g, leave it on lte only if not just 3g, the switching is what mess things up

I fixed all issues with data by doing a factory reset

I struggle with the same issues in Philly. The day I got the TB I had no service, I did a reset, pulled the battery, and then spent three hours on the phone with tech support. Eventually I ended up tethering to my Evo, connecting the market, and downloading an app called "restart connections." It works very well.
On the plus side, you don't even have to power down the device when you use it.
Just thought I'd let you know about it, as it's much easier and more convenient.
There have been multiple threads saying that the verizon network is currently having issues. They are fixing out as fast as they can. Any factory resets or apps that rest your connection are just good chance timing.
Reset your APN settings back to default.
I'm right outside Philly........... No problems since Wednesday, could not TXT......... I fixed by pulling the battery off while the phone still on...... it worked for me...
I called tech support today and the were very helpful !! Lol I couldn't believe it. He reset my data from there end and had me factory reset my phone and I'm running great now. My signal is much better as well.

So has anyone found a solution that doesn't require a hard reset? I have two friends with this problem, they can get 4G but not 3G. We have tried battery pulls, changing to 3G only mode, reseting the APNs, airplane mode and nothing fixes it. I don't want to tell them to hard reset only to have the problem come right back. It sounds like there is a major 3G provisioning issue with this phone and with no *228 there doesn't seem to be an easy way to fix it unless anyone has other ideas.
I've been experiencing the same issue. I called up. Hard reset failed, I also tried toggling data on/off and turning airplane mode on/off.
Of course, did the normal battery pull and reseat the SIM.
... Standing by with VZW on the phone to figure this out....
In the meantime, flashing a new ROM
just turned data on and off and i now have 1x, better than nothing, right
I just got off the phone with Verizon as my two Thunderbolts stopped getting any 3G data since Friday evening. Apparently this is a known provisioning issue and they are working on it. No need to hard reset. The rep herself had the same problem with her Thunderbolt too. Apparently they hope to have it fixed by later tonight. So many 4G issues, wondering if I should have waited a few more weeks...
I've seen this a couple of times today in my store. The only really working solutions is a hard reset and reload. It is a 3G provisioning issue because it doesn't have the standard *228 provisioning option. Not sure how VZW plans to fix.
thanks please keep up posted if you hear more.
There appears to be a work-around the issue...

my 3G drops out on and off all day on for a min off for a min.. not dropping to 1 x.. its dropping to no connection at all.. i have read somewhere on here that other people were having the problem.. and then they pointed to verizon.. i called verizon and there telling me everything is ok.. they tried to reset my esn or something (could not understand the accent). then i was told to reboot my phone.. so i did.. but the problem remains.. it has crippled my phone.. i was wondering if anyone can elaborate on what is causing the issue.. weather verizon is lieing to me or if i should flash back to stock,, throw my phone in the dogs water dish, or perform a voodoo ritual... thanks in advance..
I had this same problem. What I did was activate an old phone then wait like 5 min then reactivated my fascinate. That seems to have fixed it
Bummer.. I don't have another one

I have seen many people saying you can go to a Verizon store and they have "test" phone that they can swap onto and off of your line for free.
You might investigate that further and see if its true in your area.
Call verizon tech support, try to get a level 2 tech, say you want a DMU or TSN reset or something...
Say you read forums about it fixing 3g issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051543
Here is the original thread, read it! This fixed my 3g issues!
I will try this tomorrow when I have another phone to call from.. I'll let you know how I make out

After a long hold with a level 2 tech, he told me I had a corrupt data connection and he said he was surprised I could connect at all and that he never seen it before.. He reset my data and all is fine now

What does this have to do with it?

I did the dmu reset earlier. Called in on my phone and they went over a few things and then when I hung up they said pull the battery and wait five minutes while did the work on their end. Took a twenty minute nap and put battery back in. Haven't noticed my signal drop until just typing right now.
I had the 3G drop out. Was happening for several days, getting worse. It would take an hour to send a pix message. Browser, Facebook would rarely connect. Called Verizon. The first rep makes you do the "stupid person" test making sure your data is on, pull the battery out, etc. Once all that doesn't work, she connected me to a tech. The tech reset the connection/flushed something and had me turn my phone back on after a few minutes. My 3G is good again. She told me if it happens again, do a 'master reset' which I assume is just a factory reset.
What's interesting is that my wife and I have the same phone (Fascinate) running community rom 1.2 and only I have the problem. It might be because I commute by subway to work. She does not. Every day to work, I am constantly losing service on the subway so I switch it to airplane mode so it stops wasting battery searching for service. When I go over the bridge, I turn airplane off, 3G connects, sync some mail, download as much as I can before I go back underground, turn airplane mode back on. Once at work, service is turned back on and I turn wifi on. Going home, repeat steps in reverse. When I'm home, I am using wifi, too.
So I'm doing a lot of switching back and forth every day. Perhaps I could've 'corrupted' the data connection by all the switching/disabling of service. Not sure what everyone's habits are but this is my guess.

have same problem.. only works with on/off airplane mode
hello all, i was using my evo all day today and everything was swell...all of the sudden maybe an hour ago i went on wifi for a bit and when i shut it off, my 3g wouldnt turn back on. i went into the notification bar under the extended settings and the mobile network is checked, but when i try to hit it, the words turn grey and it doesnt even do anything. ive tried turning airplane mode on and off, rebooting, battery pulls, wiping cache and dalvik and nada...my evo still will not connect to 3g so if i want to use my phone, i need to put it on wifi (pretty useless). any ideas on wtf i need to do to fix this, btw i have a sprint evo 3d.
Edit: well son a *****, i just did a prl and profile update and rebooted my phone, and i have 3g back.. i guess all is well, im sorry for making a new thread and a second later resolving the problem..
mods: if you want to delete this thread, feel free.
Anyone else wake up to data issues today? Had no data connection even though sprint zone diagnostics said 3G connection was working correctly. Called sprint, they said there were no outages in my area and made up an E ticket. Told me to take it in to the sprint store. Decided to try ##3282# myself first. Got data back, but now I'm stuck in 1x. I'm running the latest cleanRom and haven't had any issues up to now. The only thing that I've done different the last couple of days is that I've been using wifi tether to connect my new View. I'm wondering if they see it somehow and if I'm being throttled. Any ideas?
##DATA# wont help.
Yeah the ##DATA# wont do anything for you. Please try any of the following:
1. Turn on airplane mode for about 1 min, and the turn off.
OR
2. Try power off the device and remove the battery for about 2 minutes so the device fully powers off and deregisters from the network. Power back on and try again.
If that does not work let me know. You might have to reset the network settings through ##CLEAR# menu.
I had this the other day but I reflashed my phone I dont know if yours is flashed and it fixed it
The past couple days my phone has lost data connection a couple times for seemingly no reason, and I am pretty much always at 1x now. Also my cell signal is lower than usual.
This is even when connected to my airave. I dont know why, but Sprint just seems to have this happen sometimes.
It definitely seems to be associated with wifi tether. I did try the airplane mode deal as well as turning off the mobile data. Also powering down and pulling the battery. It's hit and miss. Seems like receiving a text or checking my email will bring back 3G, have no idea why? But it's been working for me pretty consistently. Once I'm back up and running I'm golden til I tether again... Then sometimes I lose it sometimes I don't.
4 day old, brand new phone, stock ROM, un-rooted.
Left the wi-fi zone of my house this morning. Phone jumped to 4G, as expected. At destination, hopped on that wi-fi. Left to come home, phone jumped to 4G. Checked location of a caller via google maps. At home, phone jumped onto my wi-fi. Got back in my car a few minutes later to go meet with the caller. Noticed that the map wasn't working (or so I thought). Went to the caller's record to view address on map. Nothing happened. Then, I noticed no mobile data network. Although I hadn't changed any settings at any time up until that point today, I checked every setting I could think of, anyway. Still no mobile data connection. Restarted the phone, back to normal. Figured it was just "one of those things".
Came back home after meeting with the caller. Phone jumped back onto my wi-fi. Several hours later, I left the house. Again, phone could not find mobile data network. Called carrier tech support (what choice did I have?). While on a different phone with the tech, after trying everything the tech suggested, finally restarted the phone while at home. Phone saw my wi-fi. Went down the block of my house, phone jumped onto 4G. Turned around, came back home, phone jumped on my wi-fi. Repeated 4 times, no failure.
Sat down at home, still on the phone with the tech. Manually turned off wi-fi, phone jumped on 4G. Turned wi-fi back on, phone jumped onto my wi-fi. Repeated this 4 times. On the 4th time, jump to mobile data network failed again. The only way to get back on mobile data network is to restart. What a PITA!
No choice at this point but to have another phone and sim card shipped from carrier, which the tech had no problem doing.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? If so, did you ever find the cause, or could I really have a bad something-or-other? Or, is that just the way this phone is? If so, I'm going to be PO'd that I bought this phone, you know what I mean?
