I was curious if this was something that would be Rom related or phone related so I know where to start trouble shooting.
People lately have been telling me they are calling but I am not receiving calls. In my house my phone gets a horrible signal anyways and sometimes goes into roam but I have been at work and people have said they are calling me and I don't have missed calls.
I am on Vipers latest and have the current radios installed as well. I have done a reflash and still the same.
Not sure if this is related but I am also sometimes not getting text messages till later times. I got a text two hours later last night and most of the time it seems when people text me over 160 it takes some time to get the 2nd part. I can send and receive just fine with others but the over 160 text will pop up maybe 10 minutes later.
Sorry if this is jumbled to anyone.
Lotsa drop calls here too, switched to CM mod 7 and it's fixed. I think it's sense related when you have 3g/4g/wifi working
There is two possible problems to this, one is your rom. Try flashing a stock rom for a few days and see if it clears it up.
Second, and most likely, is just bad network connection. You say your phone bounces between roaming and sprint at home, when that happens you will always miss calls and get texts late. Nothing much you can do about that except get an Airave from sprint or switch carriers.

I get horrible signal in my house. I don't want to buy an airave though. I'll flash a stock rom and go from there.

You don't have to buy one, just call sprint and tell them you have bad signal in your house, and you are thinking of switching unless they give you an Airave. They should give you one for free without much hassle.
But try the stock rom first just to rule out any software problems with the rom you are on.
Here's my problem. I can receive texts but I can't send them. I've tried the stock messaging app and downloaded ones from the market. I have gotten like 6 or so different texts from my gf yesterday and today. I have gotten each one at least 20 times. It will not send a text out at all. I'm hoping it's something simple. Doesn't seem to matter what rom I flash either.
I got a new airave device from sprint the other day and it works great for calling so far. Boosts my signal from 0-1 bar I used to get to full signal. I'm going out later so i'll know for sure when I get off the airave signal if I can send texts. Sprint has tried resetting it on their end but no change yet.
I was looking in my phone and I didn't see anywhere in the settings about updating the prl. Guess that isn't a option when you flash a rom? How can we update the prl then?
I'm currently running superkang senseless ics.

I can guarantee you it's the Airave. Those things have so many problems. I had one, and used it for 3 days before i put it back in the box.
Customer service is trying to fix it now. My signal is great. Just getting no data from it right now. W/out it I get very poor signal at my house.

Hopefully you've gotten it straightened out by now but I had the same issue and unplugging my AirRave for a minute or so and plugging it back in did the trick.

Thought I did. But still not yet. I thought it was my rom cause I left the house I still had no data. I flashed a different rom and I got my texting and internet back. I got home and still can't send texts. Very frustrating. Time to call sprint again

So I finally got it. They had to do a bunch of things on their end. Finally got someone that knew what they were doing.

Sometimes as I'm making a call and am disconnected due to poor service or hanging up too quickly, my phone will get almost a busy signal. It won't stop until I've rebooted the phone. I'm rooted on viperrom but it happened even when I was 100% stock. Any ideas on what's causing it or a possible fix? Thanks!!

I got that too before I was rooted
Have you had it again Lou?

Bumping. would like some light shed on this issue
Not sure this really helps, but I have seen this twice recently. Its quite annoying, though I can't complain otherwise. I thought my of evo was a good device, this thing is awesome and its still stock!

I can confirm that my wife's phone has been doing this too, and hers is not rooted. I suspect it's a software issue, but the fact that it doesn't stop, when you shut down the phone, makes me wonder if it's deeper. I'm trying to decide what to do, because I was about to cancel the insurance, but not if i need it to replace a defective phone :/

This happens to me more than twice a day. Almost all calls placed from my house give me this tone. I'm past my 14 days, so I cannot return it for the sgs3. I honestly do not want to return the phone, but this is just ridiculous. Random 3g dropouts, an annoying tone on 50% of calls, and my phone will become unusually sluggish throughout the day. All of these problems are fixed with a reboot. It happens on stock and vipermod. I'm not sure about aokp or cm9. I cannot place a call with either of them. Anyway, I cannot believe a fix has not been released by htc/sprint. The xda community already has a fix for wallet. Sprint and HTC need to do something. My next purchase will be a nexus phone, after 5 HTC devices.
Wiretap
Poorly implemented federal wiretap. Go about your business as usual.
I got my phone on release date and never once had that happen until tonight. I noticed my signal was jumping in and out of roaming and everytime I tried to make a call, roaming or not, it did the busy signal thing. I called Sprint and they were looking into an issue with the tower I pull from. The same tower has gone down 4 times in the past 8 months, and everytime it goes down it is 3-4 days without service for us, it is getting really annoying.
Definitely not an HTC or evo specific issue. Had this happen to me a few times and the wife's s3 and a viper in the last few days
Turn off the roam guards. I had this same problem when I was on vacation. Once the roam guards are off you will be able to connect and not get that annoying busy signal.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I made a thread on this not knowing this one was existing.... I believe I pinpointed it only happens when and if u place the call your signal bars drop to none at that exact moment it does something within the modem and cause this tone of death I call it....
Nothing fixes it but a reboot.
HTC BETTER REALIZE THEY ARE PISSIN PEOPLE OFF, THEY BETTER FIX THE SIGNAL Issue before people return this thing..other than that love the phone..
I truly believe half of it has to do with slow network and weak towers Sprint is just trying to catch up after all these years

My phone is doing this with the roam guard off, and when I have 6/6 or 5/6 bars. Service at my house is very spotty, and 5 out of 7 calls will fail. In areas that I have good service about 50% of calls fail. I never had this problem with my EVO 3d, and my father has never had this issue with his EVO 4g. I'm ready to take this phone back. It's ridiculously annoying, and the only way to fix the issue is to reboot the phone. Also, I'm frequently not receiving calls in areas where I should be getting "good" service. This is obviously an issue with both HTC and Sprint.
On top of this issue, I keep nit getting phone calls. My wife calls me twice everytime she calls and the first one almost never rings. Who knows how many calls I don't receive in a day.

Same here. I've had a few clients tell me they've been trying to get a hold of me, which is a bad thing. Anyway, I contacted Sprint, and the rep told me to take it to a corporate store to swap phones -- something I don't really want to do. She informed me that this issue is not widespread, however, I've been reading about the issue on a few different forums.
Edit: for some strange reason I haven't had this problem in a day or two. Hopefully it stays this way.
Can someone explain to me the customer service levels at Verizon? I've been dealing with 4G data connection problems since the beginning of June. I decide to finally create a support ticket on July 3rd and again on July 11th (the first ticket was marked completed).
Every time I contact support for an update, they proceed to go through the same basic troubleshooting steps even though I gave them my case number already. Then they go through the "We're sorry for your ...." script and politely tell me that the network team is looking into it and it will be 3 to 5 days.
So, where to I go from here? I've contacted 6 different CS reps because no one previously followed up with me. Who or what is higher up than the network team?
The short term solution today was activate my old Incredible....aarrgh! My frustration level is at it's peak. Do I have any other choices besides wait and cross my fingers?

Why can't you just use CDMA (3g) only on your Rezound? I have 4g turned off on my Rezound to save battery. Or are you having issues with both 3g and 4g?

I can use 3g, but that isn't why I bought the Rezound. My specific issue with 4g is that it drops completely and randomly when using various apps that have GPS enabled (Facebook, G+, Foursquare, etc...). Shouldn't 4g drop to 3g or 1x if 4g isn't available? Since I'm waiting for Verizon anyway, I'll change it to see if it helps.
The messed up part is that the exact same thing is happening to my wife's Rezound too. We bought them together a few months ago and for the 1st month everything worked great! Verizon confirmed that we live in a 4g area so that isn't the problem.
it is the software radio on the phone. You probably live in a low signal level area. The phone is constantly trying to decide if it should be in 3g or 4g. You should root and try different radios. Calling CS is about useless in my opinion
Mine does the same exact thing, it's definitely frustrating. It used to switch to 3g just fine, but it doesn't anymore. How is it a software issue if it worked fine before? I didn't change anything, I even did a factory reset.
Set your phone to LTE, CDMA or LTE w/voice under phone settings

My thunderbolt did this, my girlfriends rezound does it, and my rezound does it but not as often or I don't notice. I'm on viperRez s-on and 2.11 boot and I haven't noticed it however when my rezound was stock I noticed it.
I think it's an issue with Verizon. They sent me a new thunderbolt and sim card and I still had the same issue.

Its supposed to go from 4g to 3g if there is no 4g signal. I have no use for 4g as I'm on wifi 90% of the time so I turned it off. Since both your phones do it I would say its a signal issue from the tower and not a phone issue. Verizon's LTE network has had some issues and all the bugs aren't worked out yet. Personally I would rather use the Rezound in CDMA only mode than the Incredible, its just an all around better phone.
This happens to me too (I'm completely stock) and it's really bothering me now. I went in to Verizon and they have me a new SIM last weekend but that didn't fix it. I know it's the phone cuz I'll be at work, home, wherever i know for a fact i have 4g. Doesn't drop to 3g, just cuts in and out. and it happens randomly (or so I thought ) but GPS activity does likely because I JUST did a hard reset after calling VZW yesterday and had no problems until I opened up Google maps.
I keep holding out for ICS hoping that'll fix it.
Side note: when I asked the rep about a release date, she said she couldn't find anything on the rezound!

Thanks for all the support and suggestions! For what it's worth, I'm completely stock and have done a factory reset twice. The thing that I haven't tried is to replace the SIM. I know that is a hit-or-miss solution, but at least I'll be able to cross that off my list when the CS rep calls back.....
The only other thing (I think) I can do is unlock/root/load an ICS ROM and hope that it fixes the 4g issue. I'm assuming a different radio is included with the ROM.
Thanks again...
I have a similar issue. My rezound is completely stock and worked fantastic when I first got it. I live in a high signal 4G area, and get 4-5 bars at all times. Since the beginning of June, my 4G just goes off randomly. Sometimes repeatedly to where its annoying and I put my phone back in my pocket. My phone has never switched from 4G to 3G, its just 4G 4-5 bars to nothing with 4-5 bars. I'd say if i'm using my phone, it happens 30+ times or more a day. Doesn't matter where in town I am. I've contacted verizon on several occasions (I know, a dead end road) and they told me there are no service interruptions in my area and they would call me back (of course, they didn't call me back). I consistently get 30-40Mbps on speedtest wherever I am. If i'm in the basement of my home in a certain spot, it drops to maybe 12-15Mbps.
Its been rather frustrating since I can barely use my phone when it acts up like this. Hoping the new OTA fixes the radios - then I'll probably dabble with CM9 (or 10 if its out by then). But until then, i'll just stay frustrated.

Thanks, but I'm currently speaking to tier 2. In the realm of support, I'm not doubting they have skills, but I'm curious as to where my problem goes next. The 5 tier 2 reps have gone through the basics each time I called. The key words are, " I called". I would assume that notes would be made so everyone was on the same page for support.
So they all have told me that they were waiting for the network guys to give them an update. I think that means I got put into a large queue and they will get to me when they get to me.

Update: This morning my Tier 2 rep said that the network team updated the trouble ticket. They have tested all of the towers in my area and everything looks good (of course). They also have added my ticket to a parent ticket that is being sent to HTC, because this is a known problem with some Rezound phones. Being pessimistic, I really think smoke is being blown up my **** but what am I going to do?! Pointing fingers usually goes nowhere.....
Per my Rep., my options are to wait for an HTC software update or they will replace the phones with another "like new" Rezound. The like new part freaks me out after reading all the messed-up-phones-sent-back posts from our forums, but there might be a chance that a replacement fixes the problem. Should I wait it out or get the replacement?

they should really implement fastdormancy for 4G LTE because on 3G, theres a power state called CELL&URA_pch which doesn't use any data but it is able to keep a connection to the network.
I was also told there will be a software update to fix the 4G dropping issues and I was told that verizon is aware of the problem, and so is HTC. If its the same thing that was on the ICS leak, are the people running ICS leaks or roms based on these leaks having the same reception issues? I've been curious about this but rarely get on to post, i'm guilty of lurking.

Generally speaking this seems to very much be a software issue and unless it's truly a defective device I doubt getting a replacement would fix it. Here's what you do:
1. Flash the latest ICS RUU that leaked for the Rezound, NO you can't go back to the old firmware/software without a lot of work but it doesn't matter if you end up getting it replaced anways
2. Set up everything again and see how it goes
3. If you still have an issue, get the replacement
IF that doesn't fix the issue, your not unlocked, your not S-OFF, so your warranty still stands. It's not like your "NEW" device was doing very well anyways so I wouldn't let a replacement device bother you. I didn't read this whole thread but hopefully I'm not the first person to re-iterate this- "NEW" is just a matter of documentation and the fact that a product is new doesn't mean it's better or will work better than a refurbished device. I personally have had several refurbished devices over the years that worked just fine...much better then the new ones did.
Hi,
I am just wondering if a lot of people on Sprint has experienced a lot of unpredictable drop calls and unstable call quality?
I tried updating the phone, exchanging the phone, but the problem is still there. Is this a common defect for this specific phone? Or this is just Sprint network creating the problem?

Most likely the network. This phone has been rock solid for me!
It has to be the network in your area...I use my phone anywhere from 5-10 thousand minutes a month. .. if I had any of those problems this phone would have gone back within a week. ... it's been very solid though.
http://i.imgur.com/qrByUGN.jpg
On the original firmware and modem I dropped 85%of calls. Then the next update mi5 got barely better. Mj4 had been much better,it still drops calls at least a couple times a day. I dropped more calls in one day on the note 3 then I did the entire time combined on my note 2.
I get 4-5 bars anywhere in my house. Mind you, I'm like 500 feet from a tower. (If they throw LTE on this tower, I'm set...)
I sometimes rock on full bars. 3G is also super strong. (2mbp/s on CDMA 3g? Not too bad)
But generally speaking, My Note 3 has none of these issues. Sprint is known for their voice clarity. Note 3 enforces this.

Considering your problem is probably the Sprint tower in your area, you would most likely be spinning your wheels. Take your phone to your local Sprint dealer to see if they can suggest anything. If they can't help you, try a different carrier if the problem persists.
I've had issues where I place a call and there is no tone or anything, however the recipient's phone rings like normal, but when answering can't hear anything either.. I'm kinda of disappointed with call issues on this phone, because otherwise it's a beast.
