Phone won't reboot? - HTC EVO 3D

Everytime I reset the phone it powers down but will not reboot unless I press the power button again, I have factory reset 3 times. Does this warrant a replacement phone?

are you saying that when you tell the phone to restart that it wont boot back up with out the power button??

Yes that's exactly right.

you may try a factory reset.. and if that doesnt work, then take it to sprint and see what they say.. it should restart when you tell it to restart..
this may be a stupid question, but are you giving it enough time to restart, and it just happens to restart when you hit the button?? (no insult to your intelligence, i sometimes get impatient when waiting for my phone to resart)..

I thought I might have not been leaving it enough time too but I waited about 20 seconds and nothing happened. I did factory reset, it seems to work every so often but the last few reboots it wouldn't reset.

you amy have them look at it.. i dont know that its a known problem, i dont restart my phone enough for it to matter to me.. but i do know that the 3d doesnt totally turn itself off either when you turn it off, it makes it sleep (just a deeper sleep), there is a setting for fastboot in settings under power.. try unchecking that box and see if that helps at all..

Yeah I always turn off fastboot since I like to start with a fresh amount of RAM daily. I notice when I slowly go through the reboot prompts it restarts fine, but when I rush through them it refuses to boot on its own. totally bizarre.

lol.. well slow down a little bit.. dont be in such a hurry..jk

same problem here. reboot would shut the phone down without the booting afterwards on my phone

Same thing here. The reboot option just doesn't work and I'm not about to factory reset to see if it helps lol.
Also had a random reboot today while using the calculator

The numbers on the calculator buttons are so fat, they probably leaked off the sides of the button and into the ROM, causing a crash.

Random Reboots Evo 3D

Anyone getting several random reboots a day from their Evo3D? I am having that issue including the screen not turning on and then rebooting.
Nope. Turn off Fastboot. Turn off the phone. Hold Volume down + Power. Reset.
When I hold the power and volume down do I do a factory reset from Hboot?
Still getting random reboots after turning off fastboot in settings.

weird, no problems here.
I got a similar problem here except mines happens whenever I try to run a couple applications at the same time.
mine was doing it, it would lock up too and have to pull the battery to reset it
I returned the phone after all the TS'ing failed, and my 2nd one's not doing it
Yep. Mine just did 5 reboots in a row. No joke. All I did was try to go into Skins. That's when it completely froze up, restarted and it won't stop. I just bought the thing not more than 3 hours ago. I can't figure out what the problem is. It sometimes goes past the boot screen but after the HTC Splash screen the screen goes black with nothing but the Hot buttons at the bottom on.

Perform a Factory Reset. That will likely solve the issue. You can search the forum or google the instructions.

Can I get into recovery if I'm not rooted? The phone goes passed the splash screen then goes blank.
Edit. I didn't know hboot had that option. I'm trying it now. Thanks.

This may or may not work, but pull the data off your sd card if you have any, if not, don't worry about it. Pull it from the phone, format it on your computer (just a quick format should work) put it back in your phone then perform another factory reset. See if that helps. My first one reboot randomly several times when I first got it and that seemed to help for a while. If it happens again, call Sprint and tell them what's happening and have them send you another one. I had to do that. I have 35 days before I have to send my old one back, that gives me plenty of time to play with the new one and see if I can recreate the issue. So far...it's working perfectly. This is an awesome phone, but getting new technology when it first comes out, I expect bugs.

Have you tried running the RUU? I'm trying to convince myself that it's a software problem because I have a perfect screen.

I had the same problem with one of my 3Ds. I took it back and they exchanged it no problem.
Took mine to the store and they gave me a brand new one since it was in the 30 Days. This one works perfectly
....i'm on my third one now, sprint told me this was the last time they will replace it...im having the same issue....black screen, low reception, restart, and battery life sucks on this one the other ones were perfect on battery life....hope they fix it.
i have the issues for several days. fixed without hard reset
1) uninstall all 3rd party app killer. ATM, ATK, juicy defender
2) use evo task manager to kill apps when memory below 100m
3) restart the phone, and turn off the phone again.
4) if your phone restart within 20sec, then your phone is in good condition
the reboot can be caused by
1) 3rd party app killer
2) low memory or extreme CPU usuage(3d camera and music play and lot of background app sametime)
3) hot battery
4) bad cache and improper restart. if reboot once, it will continue reboot, the memory seems have bad cache, you need to manualy turn if off safely and restart again.
i cannot be more satisified with the battery. don't use any atm atk or juicy defender, they are battery killer.
decrease display brightness, disable GPS.
i play online stream music for 8hrs on wifi and still have 40% battery left. no other phone can do this.
Happened to me as well, after 5 random reboots within the first 4 hours of having the phone and then not being able to boot it up at all I returned it and got a new one, fine so far only 1 random reboot in 3 days.
My reboots are very different and never when I'm using the phone but rather when I try to use the phone. With my phone obviously being on, I would press the power button but the screen would stay black. I would press it again and still nothing, then immediately after the screen would flash the lockscreen and then go black and immediately after that it reboots to the HTC screen. This happens everyday, sometimes 4-5 times a day. Anybody else seeing this exact behavior?

[Q] phone goes black with panel lit

Phone is randomly freezing, screen goes off and panel stays lit.
Pulling battery is only way to reset, wasn't doing anything special to cause a freeze.
It's almost like it falls asleep, but can't wake it up without pulling battery.
Few times I went to turn of screen, froze on me before I touched the power button. Other times were random, switching screens, backing out of an app.
Since there is no full root, I only have stock apps. It doesn't reboot, just goes dark and panel stays lit.
Is a reset needed ?
I read the other threads, but phone doesn't reboot. Phone is not on a specific app when freezing, and not getting error of any kind when it freezes, just dark screen and panel light on.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

This ^ had a similar problem with my OG only got worse
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Did a factory reset, first time through bootloader. Went through the process but didn't reboot. Had to manual boot through power button.
Started up fine, but since it didn't reboot on its own after factory reset, I chose to do it through settings. Cleared storage card also( nothing special on there) , figured it might help. Process went fine, just no reboot.
Decided to go with it, did the manual boot through power button again.
So far its not freezing, will wait anotherday or so.
Q. If phone is charging while doing a factory reset, will it prevent the reboot, even if battery has enough juice for factory reset.
Q. Will doing a factory reset wipe the cache, or does it need to be cleared in recovery before a factory reset.
Figured id ask if it happens again,
Thanks

My phone started doing this yesterday. I took it into Sprint and ask them not to pull the battery and give it straight to the tech or a manager. Of course be walks away to a sales person and he pulls the battery out then calls me over and asks if i want a tech to look at it. I said no cause the phone obviously worked now. About an hour later my screen became unresponsive. I took it back and told them not to **** with it just give it to the tech. The salesman verified that the screen was dead and told me to come back in 2 hours.
When i came back they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with my phone. I'm on my 3rd phone now and they said that they will give me one more phone and that's it. I'm scared to get another one cause they have all been so messed up. I've only had this one for 2 days now so I'm going to hang on to it and see if it keeps screwing up. It already looks like I'm starting to have green picture problems to though.

same here havent got an answer, not sure if its a software issue or phone hardware issue , screen goes blank with the screen keys still light up,
did a factory reset its been good for now hopefully stays that way but what does anyone recommend if it happens again, take it back and get a new one?
Same problem here i have been to Sprint 3 times for this issue and every time they just say they will look at it and then do a reset and reflash and send me on my way... Never fixes the problem and they say the wont swap my phone till they can replicate the problem them selves... Pisses me off.
I just had it do it to me twice in last hour
Going to call Sprint

Software issue, keep your panties on and wait for root or an OTA.
My ''xDU4L C0R3 SH00T3Rx'' shot you down in 3D!
Hi.
My original would freeze and i had to take the battery out. and the resets did not work and it got bad worse i had to take the battery out 5-6 a day. the second one my gps, wifi would not work properly even after resets. my third one would not freeze but my phone display would go off then in 5 sec or so the display would be lit but it was black and my search key would be lit. I did 2 factory resets ad a hard reset and it did not fix the problem. I know the repair stores say they need to replicate the problem to exchange and will do a reset and send you on your way. What i did was that i took pics and video of the problem. and showed the rep at the store. first he had said i had to wait 2 hour for a tech to check it then i showed him the vid and he just went ahead and changed it. So maybe if you have a camera available do this at least you might have a stronger argument.
Had same problem. I my recommendation is either take a video of the problem, or what I did was as soon as this problem happens again just bring it to the store frozen, as soon as it froze I just went to the store.

i am having problems with the screen timeout setting itself to 15 and 30 seconds. also had a couple freezes where i had to do a battery pull. lets all just calm down and wait for full root and we will be able to fix all these software issues ourselves.
Just relax and wait for root. Or call a waaambulance

Boot loop issue

So, ever since i updated to a 4.4 rom ive been having some boot loop issues. In the past i just had to plug the phone in and itd boot right up. But today it seems to have gotten into a pickle.
About every 7 or so seconds it reboots itself back to the white HTC splash screen. I can get into fastboot, but after a few seconds it reboots again, and i cant get into recovery at all because its rebooting so fast.
Any ideas on how to fix it, and any ideas on how to prevent it from happening in the future

Is it possible without those few seconds to some how get it to reset.. If not there really isn't anything you can do. You'll half to take your phone for a replacement.
Only other thing your can try is to fastboot a RUU

Thanks, I didn't realize that the bootloader was rebooting as well. Sounds like he's got hardware issues.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me as well. You have a warranty? Otherwise you could try taking it apart and see if the battery has a bad connection or something. I have a feeling it's the soc or something like that though. I feel like the fact that it's happening since you updated to 4.4 is probably a coincidence.

So, i feel that it may be my power button going bad in some way. Because before it goes into the bootloop the 3 hardware buttons flash, as if the power button is being held down, and ive found that to get out of the bootloop i can just 'pump' the power button

Sorry misunderstood
Do you think, maybe, the power button is bad. I've seen a few reports of this.
Sounds to me like it's stuck, pressed. That would cause the repeated reboots, lights flashing, etc.
Edit-- I see you already suspect this is the problem. Never mind...
Well, i flashed back to a 4.3 sense rom yesterday and havent experienced the bootlooping issues since. For reference, before i switched back it got to the point that it was doing it twice an hour
So hopefully it is a software issue and not a hardware issue(knock on wood), id rather not go through the hassle of paying my deductible and getting a new phone

You tried holding the power button down for more than 2 seconds?
I don't think that will help. The watch arrives set in quickboot mode and it can crash in that mode and not restart right. Might be the problem here, or his display backlight might have failed. Or his power button might have failed.
Anyway, try a battery pull. A full restart after a real shutdown via battery pull will probably recover the watch to where you can go in and disable quickboot.
Instructions are in other threads.

One thing that people need to be aware of--after doing a Cache and Dalvik wipe in TWRP Recovery--the phone can 'seem' like it's stuck in Boot mode--BUT, it's just taking it's time to re-align all the apps, software etc... and I mean at least 10 minutes of looking at a stationary Boot screen--it worried me first time.
Well, mines gone too. It was fully charged. I was listening to music, turned off the app, put watch on standby and when I went to check the time the thing won't turn back on. Tried connecting it to the charger but no response. I'm going to open it up and see if that works. I know I'll loose my warranty for this (doubt I have one as I got mine through Expansys.jp), If it doesn't work then I can confirm that swett, and not much of it will break your truesmart.

Phone completely dead

Today I left the house at 100% battery. Everything was normal until an hour later I pulled my phone out to check the time and it wasn't even on. I guessed I could have somehow held the power button down in my pocket so I just tried to turn it on, but nothing happened. I ran home and put in on the charger and once again nothing happened. The phone is absolutely dead for no apparent reason... Any ideas?
Try this, hold (Vol+ Vol- and Power Button) for 5-10 sek if this not working you can flash Stock Soft in Flashtool

an advice, when you wipe cache partition don't reset or turn off the phone, its not hanging or stuck, just takes too much time, wiping cache takes 5 mins aprox. if you reset before the process finish, cache partition can get damaged

Thanks mate
It hapenned to me again today and was way worse than the first time. This time I think was caused by the google store , and google services updates. Link2sd auto linked the DEX file to sd (it insists to auto link a new application even when I deactivated the option from the settings). The phone was really very hot, and was hot also while charging without charging indicator on. Thank God it actually turned on. Thank you again for the solution @BOLEK_PL.
