Well my luck finally ran out with my Streak as my 7month old Spaniel puppy got his paws on it
Thing is the only bits he damaged were the outside edges, everything on the phone works but the glass about the buttons and camera is cracked and I can't seem to find any mention of this being mentioned as a replaceable part!
Any advice?
As far as I know those parts are hard to find.
There is a shop in the UK that mey have the parts. You are going to have issue with replacing the side with the buttons as it is attached with a ribbon.
Good luck.!!

If you cannot get the ends with the buttons, there is an app that will put soft buttons on the screen.

Thanks for the link, will drop them an email.
Buttons still work so no problem there
Just to say thanks again, spoke to Philip at that site and he is sending me a couple of 2nd hand ones out
Cheers

Here is my sad story.....dropped the T-bolt for the first time and the digitizer cracked (had it in a case even). So I ordered a new one from repairs universe and they advertised that it would come with a guide. It did not, but the digitizer arrived quickly. So being an electrical engineer I decided that I could probably do it anyway.
I managed to get it apart and learn the hard way about a few things not to do. I manged to crack the LCD :-( I looked an no one has them :-(
My model used a Sharp lq043y1dx04 according to the sticker.
Anyway, I have figured out how to take the T-Bolt apart and figured that while I wait for a new LCD to become available I could at least share some pictures with the community. Being a new poster though, how would you suggest posting pictures?
***Update - photos are here, let me know if there are any that you would like to see better: s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g378/bscythe/ ***
Finally, I do not recommend anyone try this....you need to remove the LCD in order to replace the digitizer. The LCD is double sticky taped to a metal tray. To get the two apart you must do a lot of prying which can destroy the fragile LCD. If you are going to try it, I'd recommend a 4" wide razor used for scraping windows to insert along side the LCD to use to pry with. Be careful not to cut the ribbons though!
I'm a mechanical/acoustical engineer...
For pics, I would use photobucket...
As for the screen and tray, usually they are one piece, is there any kind of tabs through the board that look like they may hold the tray in?

I found the pictures very interesting. However, you couldn't pay me $250 to try to open one up.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I'm very interested in taking a look. As someone that has had their Galaxy S apart numerous times, anytime I can take a sneak peak I'm all for it!
Very cool. I love tear downs.

Me too!
Thanks for posting, OP.
Well I hope that my misfortune is at least helpful to others at some point since I could not find a teardown to reference before I tried fixing the phone myself.
I was able to get a new one from work (thank goodness for the large number of available upgrades on our account), but still plan to finish fixing this one when the LCDs become available. Putting it back together will be the easy part....I'll take better pictures during the process too.
Did you happen to notice where the cell and wifi antennas are located?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
They are located in the battery cover. If you take it apart you will see the metal tabs on the battery cover that connect to the phone for the antennas.
This is the first phone I have ever purchased insurance for. My nexus one took a few tumbles and survived but I would hate to try to replace this phone at retail price. At least ebay had nexus one pretty available for reasonable prices.
Good luck maybe you can still purchase the insurance through VZ.

Well I dropped mine too and the digitizer is cracked bad. It still works and tape is holding it all in place but I need to get it fixed. I have taken apart laptops and fixed them and am a mr fixit in many departments, so I hope I can do it without cracking the lcd. I ordered the digitizer and am hoping to get some tips from you. Is there any way you put a step by step together that could guide me through this process? I would greatly greatly appreciate it.
I looked at the pics and with the beveled edges of the tray it seems to be very hard to separate the lcd from the tray with a flat blade. Does the LCD have to be detached from the tray? Also, since the bottom part of the case is a molded piece do the internals slide up and out?
Thanks
I'm sure that isn't the only antenna.

Hey guys, I honestly doubt this will be covered but it never hurts to ask, my fiancee and I both have steaks which we just got not three weeks ago. She had hers sitting on the kitchen table and out cat knocked it off from maybe 3 feet up, the screen, gorilla glass and all chipped straight through but sonehow the lcd underneath was protected. Everything still works besides the huge chip and crack in the gorilla glass, does dell offer replacements of this, even if theres a fee or is it a do it yourself kinda thing?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
dell has stated that they do them on a case by case basis. i would have your wife call, be nice, play dumb and just say thats how she found it when she pulled it out of her purse.

Also be aware that if the phone is over 21 days old, you will get a refurbished unit.
Posted with StreakZilla, using XDA App.
If they do not send a new unit, they will offer to replace yours with a fixed one for around $250 US.
If you want to replace the screen on your own you can. Here is a guide: LINK
My back is a little squeaky and was wondering if anyone knew where to purchase a replacement back. Ive found everything from full front housing, screen and digitizer but cant find the back.
The second one that I sent back due to manufacture problems had that squeaky fat back issue I just called AT&T told them that the glue that's holding the back glass on is coming apart -disintegrating- and eventually the phone will come completely apart. they sent me a new one no problem. Manufactures warranty is a year no one had it longer than that. get yourself a new phone.

I have a spare shell (back, sides, top and bottom including bezels) that I got off of eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=150951735574&view=all&tid=868236246005
So a friend of mine recently shattered her note 2... what are her options in going about getting this fixed/replaced?
As the title states the screen, digitizer, and glass is shattered.
Screen and Digitizer come as one unit, so even if only the glass was broken, you'd need to replace both. You can fix it, but it requires a lot of work disassembling the phone. There are a few how to videos on Youtube for it. Also, the displays aren't cheap. Last I saw, they were >$200 for a new display.
Yea best option is for her to use insurance claim for device. Its $99 and in most cases cheaper than getting it fixed. I recently shattered my screen and replaced the phone thru asurion. Here in houston cell phone repair stores wanted $140 to repair.

Yeah he's right..I smashed my screen and bought just the bezel of eBay then tried to heat up the front like everyone does and pull the glass away but, the glass and screen came up and then the digitizer broke. Just get it replaced its not worth trying to fix it yourself.

If digitizer is broken you have to send to Samsung for repair. Samsung repaired my screen+digitizer on my S3 for $140.
Having never changed a screen before my uncle got his changed in an hour or so. Just used a heat gun and pried it off. Taped the new one back on. Even switched to white in the process
You can change the front glass by itself, but if the screen or digitizer are broken, then you have to get all 3 together, at least from everything I've seen. For the OP, it's not going to be a cheap fix no matter what is done, but insurance will be cheapest, if available.
Samsung will replace the whole screen for $179. That includes parts labor and shipping both ways.
I made a video on youtube.com/outleradam about repairing the screen with a new one.

Adam, your video doesn't show about 2/3 of the process. It is just a black video screen.

Only the glass is broken, the rest of the phone works perfectly.
and maybe should the best video my way of how to replace it
The reason you want to purchase the screen with the digitizer is that is is very hard to put the glass on the digitizer with double sided adhesive tape that all sellers of the glass alone don't provide. So most end up trying and get this.
then end up buying the them combined. Good luck but asurion is the cheapest rout for most.

Im sure im not alone, but my S4 found the perfect pebble to land at the perfect angle on, and now i have a cracked glass, but fully functional screen. My question is if anyone has used the screen replacement ive found on Amazon for about $20. It does require separating the glass from the LCD and digitizer, but nothing i havent done before, just wondering if anyone has had success on this phone?

I just replaced the glass on mine! The Amazon kit works very well. I used a stand with a clamp to hold the hair dryer. Got the phone so hot it hurt to touch it. But it works great now and looks new. Two things I wish I had known: don't pry up the chrome ring...its not part of the glass. Go inside the chrome ring. Wear nitrile gloves. Higher tolerance for heat AND when you're trying to get off all the adhesive, forget Windex! Rubbing it with the nitrile gloves gets the adhesive off in little sticky balls...just GO SLOWLY and pull up...never pry up. Don't put any stress on the digitizer. Srusbarsky at gmail if you have any other questions.
