So got root, how do i remove bloat? - HTC EVO 3D

ok sorry i have temporary root, can i remove some bloatware? if so. . . which is safe to remove and what is the easiest way to remove it?

Good stuff.
If your rooted phone is too bloated you should put it in the microwave for 5 minutes on high; that should dry it out np.

Yes it WILL be possible, follow the temp root in the dev sub.

you dont need to be rooted to remove most bloat. just uninstall from Application Manager.

Ya OP I honestly gotta apologize here...your post was the FIRST indication that root was now possible, and I thought you were being a troll, so I was trying to be funny/snarky back
Yeah, I'm working on implementing the temp root + titanium backup atm. I don't want to remove a THING until I got a good backup.
But yeah, theoretically it's basically a rooted phone....until boot lol

the only thing is that the current root is only a temp root, thus when you reboot your phone the bloat may re-appear and you won't have root anymore, kinda pointless to us non dev's right now to even root.. At least i'm going to wait till there is a perm root available before worrying about it.

Is it just me or is the whole rooting process just too much?

Hello everyone. I was looking at the rooting instructions like damnnn. Lots of steps. I remember when i had the og EVO or my vibrant I could root it and download a custom rom just using my phone. It was just put zip on root of SD card, apply zip, use that ROM changer app to download/apply custom ROM. Bam done. Is the 3D ever going to be that or no?

I didn't mean to say the rooting process is too much, its just not as simple as before.

I love the steps..Makes me feel like im actually rooting the phone..Thats just me though,I enjoy the process.
I'm not sure exactly what the exploit is that gets s-off so its hard to say if there will ever be a 1 click method or easier way.My guess is someone will make an easier way of doing it in the future.
Yea Rooting the vibrant 3g was very simple I used z4root it only takes 2mins.. One phone that took me the longest to root was Mytouch 4g because there's alot of steps to do.
It's about as close to one click as you can get with out being one click. all you need to do is run revolutionary and flash su. Even the old one clicks you still had to click to download then click to run, thats two clicks right there. Thats not counting the whole pluging your phone in. Personally I was impressed at how easy it was right away.
Maybe one day all you will need to do is put your 3vo under your pillow and the root fairy will come down and do it for you and leave a shiny quarter(not trying to be a prick here just funny)

It sounds simple when you say it like that lol. There's the command prompts and the sdk blah blah I'm not computer litterate but I try because I love my phone. LOL I wish there was a root fairy, and free money too? Win.

I found it obscenely simple... Lol
My nook was a pain my nuts. The G1 was a ***** without the data Sim card, and the my touch 3g was almost as big of a pain. I'd root another Evo 3D in a heart beat. OG Evo was easier, but not by much.
My buddies fascinate is also a bit of a pain with versions of cwm having to match the rom, modem problems, and more.
E3D'ed... Booyah!
Well, i am not trying to be an asshole, but 1. I think we can't really complain about put a little bit of thinking to get what the devs put way more thinking and effort into. 2. It clearly states that it's a test beta release. maybe when it is actually finalized it will be easier to use.
No.. not too much at all.
I rooted a MyTouch Fender ... That was a process and a half. Required a Goldcard, flashing engineering hboot, flashing rom/kernel and then reflashing the retail hboot.
Hassle...
This.
Input serial
Run Revolutionary
Input serial...
Umm.... Oh yeah, that's all.

To be honest with you....As much of a hassle as you think it is, learning how to use ADB and the neccessary commands from the computer is truly in your best interest. There very well may come a time when you need those very commands to recovery your phone from a bad flash or simple mistake. A lot of people use the simple root method, jump in head first and get into some serious trouble without having the neccessary knowledge to fix said problems. Just something to think about.
rooting the evo 3d was beyond easy.
i feel the evo 4g took more to root. i didnt even feel like i was rooting a phone flashed a few zips and i was done..
anyone saying its difficult or was to many steps will be the first to get bootlooped and wonder why.
Too much? I thought is was pretty simple. Click the bat file & let it go. Then type Y or N to install CWM. Then reboot into recovery & flash Su. Pretty damn easy. No need for ADB unless you want to flash Twerp & now they have a PCM files you just place on root of SD & reboot into Bootloader to flash. You must weren't around when the root & nand unlock first came out for the Hero & OG Evo. Now that got a little complicated. This is very simple.

This thread proves exactly why HTC should NOT release an unlocked bootloader to the masses!
I am by no means trying to flame on ya OP, but if you consider the root utility for the 3D difficult you should start reading some more or not even be rooting at all.
This utility makes the rooting process cake. If this seems difficult you need to read up on ADB etc. This is a lot easier than the original rooting processes for most phones if you go back a few years. Try rooting using all command prompt with 25 steps that you have to do manually.
I hope that this isn't taken the wrong way, but this is the reason that carriers frown upon rooting...Because people get themselves into something that they shouldn't and end up using insurance at an excessive rate because they brick phones.
Sorry for my rant, just wanted to give my .02

No worries. I think I have been spoiled with super easy one click root methods so i never had to learn adb or any of that. Just remember not everyone on xda are mega proficient with computers, guess I got some researching to do.

Those were a pain sometimes. It kept the riff raff out though. You had to be a pretty brave individual to go through that process, I think my brain exploded 3 times before I successfully rooted my hero.
The worst was I bought a g1 off ebay about a year ago, It was completely up to date and the bastard left his security lock on! We have no tmobile service here so I had to do all kinds of crazy ADB commands just to get past the gmail sign in because of having no sim card(back then you couldn't turn on wifi until you got past that point). Plus the whole rooting it too. What I'll do just to have buttons for my emulators.

Agreed. I didn't even have to use adb to get twrp..just a flash in recovery. Painless. I can't see it needing to be any easier. I am impressed with how well executed Revolutionary is.

Got my refurb phone...

Now I want to start from scratch again. I would like to root and use a cleanrom.
I know how to do all this. However, what exactly do I need to delete from my computer? I still have all the files on here from the last time I rooted my rezound. But I want to start completely from scratch.
Thanks is advance
first, go to htc dev.com and unlock the device.
then download amon ra recovery and install
through cmd or cleanflash 1.0 tool from scott.
after installing, get su from advanced menu in recovery.
now you've been unlocked and rooted.
download the rom and kernel you want to install
then install using recovery.
Disagree. First test the speaker and telephone call quality. Then do some downloading or program updates and make sure the phone does not get too hot. Once you are sure you didn't get a lemon, then decide if you want to void the warranty.

I found that alot of the phones have poor speakers/overheat or have dead pixels :x.

Verizon doesn't really check their phones. There are a ton of POS phones sent out as refurbs/CLNR.

Even though s/he was wrong. But I said it so we're covered. lol.
Back to the question, which was ...what exactly do I need to delete from my computer?
I would probably not use the nands from your old set up on your new phone. I don't know if there's a way to access files in them other than from restoring them, but if there isn't I'd say get rid of them.
Also, you don't want to restore data from a Titanium backup if it's to a different ROM, don't know if it matters if it's to a different phone. So you can definitely use them to restore apps but might want to not restore data in case it causes any issues.
You'll need to get a new unlock code so you can delete that unlock_code.bin file you got last time.
Not sure what else you would have on there that you are wondering about. The folder you set up for using fastboot/adb can stay and be used again.

that was my question, about the adb and fasboot etc that's already on my computer.
I have no idea on my computer where my old unlock code is haha. Im.sure I will find it.
I can use the same drivers correct?
Thanks afaik for everyone's help. I appreciate it.

You do realize that even if you "void" your warranty, its easy to still return it for a replacement. Just put in the stock ROM and stock recovery and re-lock and you're good to go. You don't even need to re-lock, Verizon doesn't check.

She's already done that, believe me... we went through it together. lol.
putney... you can keep all the drivers and the whole fastboot/adb folder you have set up. That's just for your computer and not phone specific. Well, the drivers are HTC but you got the same phone so you're set.
No big deal on the Unlock_code.bin. If you end up with the old one and it doesn't work you can always generate a new one any time from what I've heard. I just keep mine in the fastboot/adb folder so it's always available. I also do that with Amon Ra. Then I don't have to go looking for them.

Backing up files before rooting...

First off, if this has already been answered, by all means please give me a link to go to!
So, I had a rooted EvoLTE already, but had it swapped since I ordered it new and well, it came already activated and opened/fondled/etc.
So, I wanted to root this one as well, but was waiting for the 1.22.651.3 root. So, here's the hard part.. I have some games that I've put some time into, FF3 for one (almost at the end of it..) and I'd rather not have to start all over, again (DS version bit the dust). I do have titanium backup, however you can't backup those saves without root. But - root wipes all your data. Fudge. Honestly I would rather beat the game before rooting if it meant my data would be lost, but I just got the Galaxy Note 10.1 and would love to throw the game on there as well. Glorious huge screen <3
Is there -any- way to backup such data without rooting? Or a way to root this phone without wiping the data?? Thanks, all. Apologies for the novel. ^-^
I dont think zedomax works for the newest stuffs.
If so you cant backup before rooting. HTC dev will wipe the phone

Thanks, this I know, but I'm hoping at some point some one can reply with "Yes! Here's how!" <3
-_- Dang bootloaders, wiping my stuff. There's an app called "Saveshare", however, FF3 has no support from it yet. The dev says he's trying, though, but it's been two months since he replied as such.

I'm in the same boat. No way to root without wiping at the moment for the newer hboot. I think (hope) people are still working on it.
try using MYBACKUP thats what i use and it works great... im pretty sure you can backup game data weather youre rooted or not.. but most def the best program ive used for saving games...

If the screen is so trashed you can't do anything, Odin flash the stock no root image in download mode. I've accidentally sent in a rooted devicefor replacement (Bionic), and they didn't say anything. But best to be careful.
