[Q] Solved - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Solved

You can uninstall/freeze them with Titanium Backup.

Just go to the dev section and look for the removing bloatware thread. There u will find a gscript application that does backup/restore/remove all stock samsung apps etc. But use search before you start another thread dude...

[Q] Any backup utility that preserves app names?

Hi,
I'm looking for an app that will backup my installed apps while preserving the app name and maybe the version number (if possible).
I've used many "backup" apps but they all backup the apps with weird names such as com.xxxxx.xxxx.xxxx.
If one of my apps is called "App2SD v1.2.3" then the backed up APK should have that as a file name. I don't mind if the version number is missing from the file name but it is an advantage if it is preserved.
Does anyone know of any apps or PC software that can backup installed apps and preserve original name?
Thanks
I found it: File Expert
Edit: File Explorer is buggy and won't save some apps. Does anyone know of any other apps?

Installing apps then rooting

I have been installing a few apps and now im questioning if I am going to have to install these apps again after I root this phone? Those of you that have rooted your phone, have you have to install your apps again?
Thanks!
No.
From your question it would appear you are new to rooting. It does not mess with the installed apps; it provides more access to the OS so you can do more.

Rooting will only give root access, but changing the kernel will force you to format your phone?

Y'all answer my question and more, thanks!!
Delete. Delete.

What to do once rooted.

Just to ensure I am not missing out on anything.
I have made use of root by doing the following :
- Backed up apps before flashing Rom with titanium backup.
- Freeze unwanted apps with titanium.
- Installed ad free to remove ads.
- Load custom roms and kernels etc ( I did this on my s2. not bothered on s3 yet as only had it a few days.
I think that's all I've done with root. What else have people done?

Nothing as root is a method of opening the OS to a lower level than standard .
If an app requires root privileges its used if not it isn't .
jje
Yeah I understand that. What apps have you used or tweaks made with root?
Is there something about improving audio?

Using this you must backup every simple app by itself, then after flashing Rom you can restore.

[Q] Not able to delete message threads in my I8552

Hello developers and Non-developers too like me
I have rooted my device and installed DocDroid Extreme in it but I didn't like it much so I again installed the Official ROM. After that I restored my data from SanDisk Memory Backup App which I backed up before rooting my device.
The problem I am facing is that m not able to delete the message threads in my phone. Whenever I delete a thread the message is deleted but thrread is still there with the contact name and without any message in it.
I have attached an image of that.
Please help me out guys.
Use titanium backup or helium backup. These two backup apps are really good.
