Ok I followed the guide to deodex
droidxforums .com/forum/droid-x-themes/4620-how-manually-deodex-your-phone.html
Then I followed the guide here for the atrix by pushing the three apk files moving them to system/app and also ran the install.bat
Now I do not get any message when I plug in the HDMI cable. No media view or webtop... how can I fix this as i removed all deodex files first the first link.
i assume you're using 1.8.3 correct?
i ran into a similar problem to this about a week or two ago, searched the forum, and found this post --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015630&highlight=webtop
Basically, what I did was:
Re-Flash a fresh 1.2.6 using RSD Lite
Completed the 2 OTA updates from AT&T until I was back to 1.8.3
Rooted with Gingerbreak and enabled Sideloading
Downloaded the "webtopmod1.1updatedv8" from the post above to my C:\ drive
Ran the included install.bat file and applied the webtop mod hack
At this point, I checked to see if the mod worked PRIOR to deodexing or theming
If all checks out, go ahead and deodex your phone using kennethpenn's cwm-ready zip
After deodex, install any themes, mods, hacks, whatever you want
Run the install.bat AGAIN because the deodex process overwrites the modded webtop files, however by running it PRIOR to deodexing, you created untouched backups of the stock webtop files, which the webtopmodhackv8 will call upon to basically "re-hack" the webtop for you AFTER you deodex (that is what I gathered from briefly skimming through that post, I wouldn't say I am an expert modder/hacker, but I've certainly been doing it for a while, and I have been visiting this site every day for several months now, until I recently have I actually felt confident enough to start posting)
After that you should see the option for Webtop Connector along with Entertainment Center when you plug the phone into a TV via the HDMI cable.
Which one do I download I just got this atrix 2 days ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
Could you link me to a how-too for flashing with RSD?
Well, i'm flashing 1.2.6 as we speak hope it works!
EDIT
Wow that was smooth! Now to get my apps back on and start over.
alright, so you flashed 1.2.6 and have updated to 1.8.3 via the OTA updates, correct?
now, go ahead and root with Gingerbreak
and enable sideloading with GladEnabler, you need to place it in your C:\ drive, and have the phone connected as "None"
Once root is obtained, run this webtopmod1.1updatedv8
unzip the file, and move the contents to a folder in your C:\ drive. (i just named mine webtop)
Go ahead and run install.bat from C:\webtop , or whatever folder you placed the unzipped files in
once that's done and the phone has rebooted, you will now see the Webtop Connector option when you plug in the HDMI cable to the phone.
Following these steps, you will have a ROOTED, ODEXED, SIDE-LOADING-ENABLED phone, if you need help with deodexing or anything else just ask
I have linked the Gingerbreak from briefmobile.com, which is kennethpenn's website, and the webtopmodhackv8 from it's original post on this website
Hmmm, gingerbreak doesn't work now.... how can I root.
ok you're on stock 1.8.3 unrooted..
just extract gingerbreak to C:\
make sure USB Debugging is ENABLED on you're phone, and when you plug it in to the computer, make sure it is connected as "NONE", not usb mass storage, windows media sync, or motorola phone portal.
once you've done that, run Gingerbreak from C:\ and you should see it on your phone after about 30 seconds
I installed GB 1.20 via adb and ran it. it dismounts the SD card and has been running for over 5 mins and nothing.
It's in debug mode though it doesn't show the spider in the status bar and its on USB none. The status bar shows an SD card that is hollow. When I first GB before flashing to stock it worked pretty fast...
EDIT:
Ok the spider is there
Now it goes SD card Unmounted
Then Internal Storage Unmounted
Then Stuck at Rooting... Running exploit... This may take a few minutes
well once you have gingerbreak on the phone, unplug it from the computer so that it mounts both internal and external SD card to the phone, and can use whatever it needs to do the rooting process, and yes it may take a minute or two, but should be relatively quick. it will reboot and once it's rebooted you SHOULD be rooted.. you can download root checker from the Market for free just to be sure.
I uninstalled the USB drivers then reinstalled then did the process all over using gingerbreak.exe then running the app then it worked. Not sure if unplugging did it since i didn't read your post first but thank you all for the help now to try the webtop
Webtop installed perfectly and using it on my other monitor now. Just need to setup a bluetooth mouse
awesome glad i could help
let me know how the webtop hack goes
the order is like this:
1) root
2) webtop hack
3) deodex and theme if desired
4) webtop hack again
These are my steps
Just a side note (I installed Gingerblur 4.5)
I decided to install my first rom after bricking with UI Kitchen and the framework apk
All I did was (same steps before and with Gingerblur)
1. Root (already performed with GB)
2. WebtopMod1.1_updatedV8.zip extract and run
3. Done
No need to deodex or anything else.

I've flashed pre-update SBF and am only able to aqquire root while using SuperOneClick. Before that, when I try using files such as Adeo or GingerBlur I keep getting an error that says either device cannot be found or unable to chmod psneuter such as when i'm trying to use the retain root files. Am I missing something? I've checked environment variables to ensure that they're working, that usb debug is on, and thaty connections are good. What stumps me the most is that my first attempt at installing Gingerblur and Webtop MOD worked with no issues. I only restored back to SBF because i wanted the update with root but right after flashing to SBF, I tried bat files and i get an error message. I've yet to see any post on here that has an answer to this issue please help because if I can't get this to work there'll be no reason for me to keep the Atrix. Thanks to everyone in advance!
I've had SO many problems hacking my atrix.. and have managed to fix them all through this forum so I completly understand your frustration. The main thing I did that fixed everything, was to delete all previously downloaded mod files, then re download them all and place them at the root of your C drive. I'm assuming your using Windows.. None of the install.bat files worked for me until I moved them there..
Hello, friend. Thanks for the quick response. I tried what you recommended but am having the same issue. It doesn't make sense right now. I haven't added anything new to my PC nor have I installed any new programs. All i did was flash SBF to attempt to utilize retain root and then update to new version however my device cannot be detected. If anyone can help out it would be much appreciated.
Try putting the USB connection in mass storage mode. If your computer wants to find drivers, let it. Then give the script a whirl.

To someone who has not worked with tablets before, but has good computer knowledge. I sure would like to see (even pay for) a step by step from the beginning of a stock updated gtab, rooting to loading roms. Are we supposed to z4root, clockwork, backup, just load a rom. The guides are great that are here, but none of them are consistant. I could eventually after several months make heads or tales, sure would like some opinions and how will this effect the fact that we know honeycomb is coming I assume, What is the stable rom to use?
Thanks for your consideration.
I feel your pain. I recently received my $279 gtab. I needed to put it to use right away and was afraid to flash it until I had more time to study the issues involved.
It took me a few days to figure out what to do. I ended up installing the Vegan 7 ROM using Clockworkmod 8.
This post was the most helpful:

There is another one I cannot find now, but author also has a blog with some instructions (google search fugatech)
Some more info to install CM8:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865017
I installed clockworkmod on my external sdcard (sdcard2). I used the sdcard slot on my computer to transfer files to sdcard2 of my gtab -- just like you would a thumb drive -- by unzipping the downloaded file directly to the sdcard
I partitioned as explained and deleted caches that mentioned in cwm menu items
I used cwm to connect my gtab to my pc via usb. I used my pc to create a folder on gtab intermal storage (sdcard) named "ROM." I then copied the whole vegan zip file to the ROM folder
There is a menu item in cwm that will flash your rom. All I needed to do was to browse to the zip file I copied to the rom folder and let it do its work
I didn't have to do the market fix
Went to Market and downloaded latest flash player.
The whole thing takes only a few minutes once you are ready. Once you hace CWM installed and see the menus things will be come clearer. I suggest you forget about the ROMs and just install Clockworkmod and take a look at it. Then go get Vegan 7.
It seems a lot of time is spent, and threads created, by people just trying to figure out where to start.....especially considering that the process itself is very simple.
This walk through assumes you are starting with a stock unaltered Pheonix/Thrive (Froyo 2.2.1) or you have upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.4 using LG's utility. I have tested both of these methods on my Phoenix but I have not tested it on the Thrive, so mileage may vary, use at your own discretion. If you brick your phone (unlikely) its your fault not mine.
Gingerbreak for Froyo (2.2.x)
1. First you will need to be able to load non-market APKs you have two options to do this.
A) Update your phone to the latest version Froyo 2.2.2 (some people have had some issues check the thread on that).
B) Go to your dialer, type 3845#*505#[Phoenix] or "3845#*506#"[Thrive] then scroll down to "Unknown Sources Test" and check the box
2. Download the APK from the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1303829207
(I emailed the link to myself to make it so I didnt have to browse to it)
Note* it i will yell about not knowing what to do with that kind of download but just ignore it and download it anyways
3. Use a file explore (I used ES file Explore) to search for the newly downloaded APK I'm sure someone out there knows exactly where it downloads to but I couldn't find it easily though I can tell you its on the SDcard.
4. Run the APK
5. Turn on USB Debug mode (Settings>Application>Development)
6. Go to your Apps and run Gingerbreak
7. Click the root button
8. Let the phone do its thing (it will reboot)
9. Reboot the phone manually to make sure the root took and you didn't end up with a temp root
If all went well you have a fully rooted phone.
Here is the link to the original XDA site I recommend reading it over (at least the first post) so you understand what is going on.
[26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers
If anyone notices an issue with any of the steps here please let me know and I will update them.
Also thanks go to kingv10 for pointing out the secrete code for us.
Superone click for Gingerbread 2.3.4
This method will probably work both gingerbread and froyo but I have not tested it on Froyo. The orginal post I copied from can be found at:
http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/02...3-gingerbread/
I recommend you read the page but for those of you who won't here is the rundown on how to root.
1. Connect your phone to the PC with USB Debugging enabled. You can enable it by going to Settings>Applications>Development and ensure that USB Debugging is checked. You will need to have installed the USB drivers for your phone. You should already have these if you upgraded to 2.3.4.
2. Download the rooting zip package and extract the contents to a folder in your PC. Let the folder be named as “root”
http://tinyurl.com/6v5fhu2
3. In the extracted folder, go to ADB folder and start cmd7.exe (for Windows 7 users) or cmdxp.exe (for Windows XP users). You need to run as Administrator.
4. In Command Prompt, type the following commands:
adb devices
adb shell
Now the symbol should change to “$” or “#”.
Enter the following command
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
5. Reboot your phone.
6. Go to the "root" folder again and run Superoneclick.exe
7. In Superone click, find the methods drop down box (right side), select Gingerbreak and then click the Root button.
8. Reboot again
Now you should be rooted

Just for the record here I would have given you credit for your post if had I even read it before now. This write-up came about mainly from posts on androidcentral.com and general searching from google about rooting. Had I known that your post was out there I would have used it and sighted to it but at the time I initially posted this how-to I did not have any idea regarding the secret code and had to wait for my phone to get the update to 2.2.2 so that I could run programs from unknown sources. You may have shared similar information at a similar time but I didn't not get my information from your post, I wish I had it would have made life easier.

I can not vouch for other methods but I have rooted this tablet with SuperOneClick ver. 2.1.1. If you leave "Exploit" on "auto" and click "root" you will be pleasantly surprised. Took me two tries, but if you turn on usb debugging in settings and leave the screen timeout on 30min your golden. Happy rooting.... I'm also uploading a google apps zip file. I unzipped it and installed all the files in the corresponding places to get a working Android Market. I used Android Commander to move the files & install apk's. *NOTE* You need to install the apps in the "/sysem/app" folder in this order...
1. GoogleServicesFramework.apk
2. OneTimeInitializer.apk
3. SetupWizard.apk
4. Talk.apk
5. Vending.apk
6. Gmail.apk
7. Maps.apk
After... Restart, Connect to wifi, and launch Market. You will be prompted to sign in to google. Then you will see Market License blah blah blah...

***EDIT*** Sorry guys... you were unlucky because I forgot something crucial.... THE DARN ADB DRIVER.... You will need to go into the device manager and right click the "Android" device with exclamation mark & click update driver. Search for the driver and point the installer to this folder should work on 32 & 64 bit if my edits are correct... Tested on 64 bit Windows 7.

Also when you install those "/system/app" files above use Android Commanders "Installer" and install them one at a time in the order above. AND AFTER YOU RESTART USE LAUNCHER AND NOT SETUP OR YOU CAN'T ACTIVATE YOUR WIFI.
I tried both methods,
SuperOneClick and Gingerbreak both did not work.
The table is running android 2.3.1.

Do you have usb debugging turned on, and did you use the latest version of SuperOneClick. For me it stalled when my screen timeout was to short and locked me out of my tablet when the screen cut off. Second time around it looked like it was going to fail, stalled and then prompted me to ok the install of busybox... etc etc. I am also running android 2.3.1 and it worked for me. Just have to keep trying till you get it.

I've also tried this on my husband's Impression 10 - same model i10-50. Can you give some details of how you rooted? What programs did you use besides Android Commander and SuperOneClick 2.2.1? Any help would be appreciated.
i just got an impression 10 as well. i10-50 model with android 2.3.1. im interested in more in depth info on rooting it as well. i tried updating firmware from the page it gives from the box. instructions to download the system.img file from the impression site. but i am not sure how long it takes? when i loaded the file on sd card and restarted (power+vol-) one time it stayed on the blue screen with the white status bar for like over a half hour. i thought it froze and restarted. when i tried it another few times the blue screen disapeared and i got a screen full of multi colored lines all down it. when i reseted.you could still faintly see those lines even when its running normaly. its faintly in background and you can see it more on certain pages or folders u open. my first tablet and i wish there was more info on it. any clue what im doing wrong?
dude i do customer suport forthis tablet, as u may know by now............it sux
leader Impression I10-50 firmware update
In order for the firmware update to be completed successfully, u need to first format your sd card via sd card reader or your tablet as follows:
Plug in the tablet via usb to your PC or load your card reader with sd card
Then select and left click whatever removable disk drive your tablet shows up
Select format and make sure the file system is set at FAT32
Select start, your sd card should begin formating.
Once complete, then u follow the 13 steps, but since you have already started step 1-13, just press your -volume and power buttons at the same time (steps 11 and 12 again) and it should update your tab. Be sure to do it twice as far as the volume and power button go so the update completes successfully.
I cannot seem to get this thing to root....tried the above with the external sd unmounted and then removed. Followed the instruction on the gtab post. All I can see is the external sd card. It did install superuser. Without the sd it gets stuck at Step 6.
It took awhile....but switched to EZ File Explorer. And I was able to see the internal sd and copy the files Then was able to install the market! Life is good!
edit: nevermind

Do you know if the root is reversible in case you need to put it back to the factory default? Would installing the image file on the Impression website reset the tablet back to stock firmware?

Thanks for the reply. About that file program you used, the only one I can find with a similar name is "ES File explorer". Is that the one you used?
I can't get it to copy the files over in the system directory, it acts like its write protected and fails the copy. I must be doing something wrong.
Oops yes ES File Explorer...
Need go to settings.... Open menu, choose Settings Check Root explorer and mount file system...
I'll probably just give up on this. This still isn't wanting to write/copy the files. This is the whole reason I returned my Nook Color before because of the hassle it takes to do this.
edit: it copies a few files, but then some files it says it failed.. like the "maps.apk" file.
Had a few apk's not move as well. I think map was one of them. Just followed the install order and did those from the external sd.....all worked out.

Thank you for your help. I finally got it working, I spent hours on this.
But I decided to try that original posts recommendation of using the program "Android Commander". I had to search to find it, but its a Windows program that makes it much easier to copy files over to the root directory. (although I had to change a setting it in so that it auto closes the log window after it copies, otherwise you can't close the log window, or do anything else until its closed).
I wasn't able to copy the maps with that either though, it gave the error that there wasn't enough space. But it seems to be working fine now.
Impression i10-50
I bought the i10-50 and actually love the tablet. With google market installed (update firmware first), I have full access to the market and no problems installing apps. The only con about the tab is no gps. To install the market, I only downloaded the google apps file and installed the apks in the correct order and that was it. No need to root. I am truly enjoying this tab now.
I am with a Nook Tablet 16gb that was purchased with 1.4.0 and is now with 1.4.2. I was happy sideloading on 1.4.0, but now understand I have to go rooting...
I have been trying several methods, and just can't get it though. One problem is I am in Africa, and downloading 100MB images takes more than 2h and recurrently fails with size mismatches or other errors before the end
Now, I am sure I should be able get Indirect's methods work, but end up with some nothingness...:
1> Indirect's method one: "make a magic SD card to load up CWM, and root their device"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21895025&postcount=14
I go through all steps with no problem, run CWM. However, for the last step to install zip from CWM:
- I guess it refers to the CWM_SD_flash_and_exe.zip again? It tells me fail to install, and the log says ""failed to open /sys/class/android_usb/android0/state: no such file or directory""
- I also tried using NT-CWM-SD.zip provided elsewhere by Sprint (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583à), same thing
2> Indirect method two: "How to root 1.4.1 (or any other version) using just an sdcard {easy}"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583
I tried the 1st (non windows) approach, that was creating a partition on the SDcard myself (did with Acronis Disk Director Suite, worked well),
I did the partition, copied the required files on the root of SD card, got CWM running. But then, the tutorial says:
Now you just need to download this zip file:
http://goo-inside.me/apps/Indirect/N...s_and_root.zip
just put onto the /mnt/media/ directory or you can push to /emmc/ while in CWM.
I am not sure I understand these instructions... I got the Gapps_and_root.zip onto my SDcard root, used CWD mode to unzip & install it successfully.
After that I reboot... I think it asks me to reset the tablet (someway like I have no choice), and then opens the Nook wizard and I cant get anything else out of it.
3> CM7 alpha final
I am now trying to use the CM7 method through SD card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826) but dont succeed to download the required 120MB file... (Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final.img.zip)
=> So... any help or idea to get out of this?
NB: I am computer savy but not Android expert (though I killesed myself twice to install android market on chinese devices and learnet something), I can use a SDcard reader or USB cable but dont know to run ADB or alike. Again, I have trouble to download huge files!
Thanks a lot to help me... I am pulling my hair here already 3 days
I understand the experts are on this forum, and hope to get some help or I ll get mad and my husband's Xmas present will go useless... (he is Mozambican and we found out B&N has no portuguese books! I need Kindle.. and few other apps!)

Sideloading still with Sideload Wonder Machine on Nook 1.4.2?
Sorry, yes. I have now asked the moderator.
Sideloading still with Sideload Wonder Machine?
In the meantime, I ve found in this great sticky post:
NT Reference Thread | Tips & Tricks | How to's | Videos | NEWBIE?
It talks of this Windows programme to sideload any apps.
http://www.androidcentral.com/sideload-android-apps-all-you-want-sideload-wonder-machine
I wonder if that still can work on Nook 1.4.2 (unrooted)?
Please help understand the instructions
Well, this was originally posted here and then moved to my own thread by some admin I guess....

[MODS/HACKS/THEMES] Nook Tablet ONE-STOP-SHOP for CM7 | UPDATE! March/12
Hi,
I understand this thread is not supposed to be for newbies, yet I am not an expert, but every other method I tried failed (Indirect's method, etc, see here) and I am having troubles (from Africa) downloading big files, so this one I got and I am willing to try because I really need to get out of Nook rom. Though I'd love some advice
I am with a Nook 16Gb Tablet that I got with 1.4.0 and had sideloaded apps. Now it is on 1.4.2 and I have reset everyting in various previous attemps, so it is quite clean. Unrooted. I have a SD card, a disk partitionning software, and a USB cable, but no ADB.
My goal is, minimum, to be able load few apps (Kindle, a radio I like, etc), and if it is rooted and with access to Market, even better, then I'll do even more.
Luckily, I have been able to download the various files in this post.
My questions:
1> internal or SD ?
Which method you think is simplier and more stable?
2> Stable versions now?
It looks like these versions have started as beta, but been improved; Could they be considered stable now?
I saw there are other ones out there, but I could not succeed download them ("Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final.img_001.zip")
4> Requirements
Do I understand well there are no special requirements before starting that? Can be on unrooted device, 1.4.2?
3> reading the instructions...
I am not so expert and may need some help:
1. Download the file of the mod you pick
=> OK
2. Copy the zip file in the root (/) of Internal OR External SDcard (Pick one)
=> OK for external. But if you talk of internal, does it mean the tablet should already be rooted?
3. Verify md5 of the file >> ES File Explorer>Properties let you check md5
=> Is this step compulsory? How do you do that with an unrooted tablet and no ES file explorer in?
4. Boot into CWM
=> This I knew to do with Indirect method. Does it mean I should have done that before? Or the img file provided here will enable me do it ?
4.1 Go to Backup & restore>> Backup your current ROM if you haven't already
=> ok
4.2 Format system, Wipe cache, advanced>> Wipe dalvik cache
=> Is this step compulsory? How do you exactly do that, all from CWM?
4.3 Re-flash CM7 ROM
=> Does that just mean to reboot?
4.4 Flash the mod
=> Does that just mean to reboot? apparently not... then how?
5. Reboot your device. ENJOY!
I am sorry for beeing so basic, but I am sure I ma not the only one...
Thanks for the precious help!
If you are just trying to root the device, try this thread

Thanks for the link, I will do!
Does this mean the NT must be rooted BEFORe going for this CM7 procedure?
