Yep, I dropped my EVO 4G taking it out of my pocked in a parking lot today, and the screen is cracked to he!!. Need to decide whether to get another EVO 4G or move to the EVO 3D.
I like the idea of the better quality screen and faster processor in the 3D, but from reading some if the "issues" threads here and elsewhere, not looking for a new device that will randomly reboot, have worse reception, overheat faster (it's flipping hot here in Houston!), etc. The lack of a kickstand and where they place the charging port seems like a huge fail as well.
I don't root or anything like that. This is a work phone and to be honest, I don't have the time to mess with rooting and stuff. I just need it to work right out of the box. I have a 16GB micro SD card that I will use for storing pictures, music, etc. I currently use the Sprint extended battery (2600 mAh) in my EVO 4G and get through a normal day with 35-40% left. Not sure if I will need an extended battery with the 3D?
Anyway, for those of you that came from the EVO 4G, was it worthwhile?
Thanks!
Jason
Well the only deciding factor is whether or not you want HTC Sense 3.0. Yes the phone is faster and such but if you don't root your phone you won't truly take advantage of all it has to offer.
My advice is to go to the sprint store and try out their in-store demo and see for yourself if you want to upgrade.
I personally have the EVO 4G and the EVO 3D and they are both great devices, the EVO 3D just improves on the 4G tremendously.
its a worthy upgrade. do it
also keep in mind that the galaxy s2 is coming to sprint soon. another bad ass smartphone. they say within the next month or two.
but why wait.
id pull the plug if i were u im really starting to love this phone
I broke the screen on my og evo and after bictching at sprint for not repairing it I got an upgrade early so I sold my evo 4G plus extended battery for 160$ (with broken screen) I pay 55$ out my pocket and i'm a happy camper, and besides sometimes the camera app getting freeze after opening vertically, everything else works the same, you will need a second battery if you use it the much but this one does have a longer battery life tho so is up to you, the one the seido came out is ugly as hell so im waiting to see if htc gets a nice one like the one they did for the thunderbolt (really like the phone when had it btw)
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Just went by my local Sprint store to take a look at the 3D. Good news is that the 3D will still fit in my universal car cradle. I was worried that the charing port would be covered by the left side of the cradle, but the port is high enough up on the side to clear.
I use this universal car cradle, BTW:

Though a little weary of the stock battery life, I told my IT guy to get me the 3D. Hopefully it gets drop-shipped to my office in the next 48 hours. I will be the first in my company to use it for business, so hopefully it works just like the 4G does (synching with Outlook e-mail, calendar, contacts).
Thanks for the quick replies!

Don't worry you will be a happy customer, if you love the 4g then the 3D will blow your mind. Dual core goodness all the way.

I hope you're right. I really like my EVO 4G. No major bugs for me with that device running 100% stock from Sprint. A little nervous about the 3D. Hoping I didn't make a bad choice.

You will be good let us know what you think about it after you play with it
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
You mean step down to the Evo 3D? IMO you should get the HTC Vogue...

I'd say upgrade. I had the Evo 4G since it was released and then got the Evo 3D the day it was released, haven't looked back. I haven't had a single random reboot since I purchased my 3D. I haven't noticed any problems with my reception here in Kansas City, Missouri, at least no different than my Evo 4G.
As for the overheating, I've not had a single problem with this either, and it was 109 here in KC. I think HTC got rid of the kick stand because it was taking up precious battery room. If it's that big of a deal to you you can always go for the seidio active case that has a built in kickstand.
The stock Evo 3D battery seemed to out perform my Evo 4G battery as well, however I'm now using the seidio 4000mHa super extended battery and my phone will last two days with constant use.
I absolutely love the EVO 3D. It fixed many of my little issues I had with my EVO4g. The only thing that doesn't work right for me is the BlueTooth hook up to my car stereo.
EVO 4g auto hooked up everytime i started the car. never failed. (2011 Subaru STi stock radio)
EVO 3D I have to turn off the bluetooth, re-enable and then pair manually. Sometimes it pairs completely.. sometimes it pairs with only the media portion so I only get music and not phone capabilities.
Other than that, Its a great upgrade.
If You Have An Overheating / Bootlooping Phone can you please post what you were doing and the hardware revision number and manufacturing date?
This is actually a two-fold question, one of which is ... what is the best way to test a new Rezound to see if it will superheat or bootloop. The other part, and the one my other thread got too off topic to be useful for, is to collect manufacture dates in hopes of figuring this out.
To get your phone manufacture date:
1. Dial ##7764726
2. Hit call
3. Insert 000000 for password
4. Hit Display Grouping
5. Manufacture Date Code is what you need there
lol oh man, just buy one already
Jay
Oh Jay ... you can swap yours out anytime you lucky dog Verizon telesales told me I should buy in-store because that will save 1-2 days for each swap. So be it ... but I need to figure out fast if it will bootloop or overheat or not. Hence the thread.
i can't swap mine out ever lol i'm over my 14 day return period, and i bought it from corporate because i didn't wanna wait at my store
and dude, i really tihnk it's just bad quality control...mine has light leakage, and i have 1 speck of dust under my screen that i never notice....but i've never overheat, i get like 16 hours battery life, i use it ALL the time, i never bootloop, i never crash, i've gotten only 1 force close on some aftermarket app....and i've had it since day 1 (nov 14)..idk man.

agreed, haven't reset my phone in a week and no problems. Best android phone I've had.

Only overheats when playing graphic intense 3D games.
No bootlooping, dust under screen or anything else (unless you count a bad charging cable as an issue, which is being replaced)

I played wind up knight for an hour and didn't have any over heating issues. Yeah it was a little warm but it wasn't abnormal. Just take a deep breath and relax. Try to enjoy a new purchase and take the science out of it
My respond reach a temperature of 128 degrees, but I attributed this to a conflict between htc's task killa and juice defender,While plug in. Also had a boot loop that couldn't be fix by a battery pull. Had to boot in to the factory boot loader, and do a hard reset. Thats it. This phone isv awesome nexus galaxy blaah.

I notice when I play on-line poker my phone heats up to 100-110 degrees or so. Never resets but does get a little warn. I have a crappy LG ally that I used for wifi only and play on-line poker on it and it doesn't heat up. Either it's the active 4g connection or something to do with the Rezound. I don't think my thunderbolt would heat up either on 4g.
Mine was getting real hot. It would feel like it was burning my leg when I had it in my pocket. The battery would drain in around 4 hours or less and the extended battery in around 6 hours. I was with in my 14 days so I exchanged it for another one. I will see how this one does. The first one was fine the first couple of days and I picked it up off the tablet on the 3rd day it was really hot. I just got the new one late yesterday afternoon and charged it. So I will see how the battery does today.

Well I got my Titan for a penny so I'll be selling it and buying that the moment it comes out....
*grumble grumble*
How about you guys?

Sorry a non replace able battery kills it for me, also I like the metal shell.
Titan II
I had a feeling that Titan II was going to come. But if the only difference is a 16meg cam and LTE it's not very exciting also since the battery is not replaceable. I dont know why people are so gun ho with having super internet speeds on a Phone. I'd be happy if they got 3G speeds (aka 4G on AT&T) working correctly.
I wonder when they where doing the show and tell at CES on the Titan II if the phone did a random power cycle like my Original Titan and the replacement Titan I have now. Ha!
Seeing that the titan's speeds are definitely throttled, and 4G is really just H (or might as well be), trading up seems like a good idea. I have had good luck with my HTC batteries, so I'm not too worried about that. Got my titan in the penny sale, I no reason not to sell it and trade up.
Also, non removeable back means the antenna issues will be permanently solved, and I'm sure the titan II will get a fix for the noise cancellation before the titan
Not being able to take the battery out is a deal breaker for me. I just watch all my friends with iOS devices always looking for some place to plug in when we are traveling.
I just pop my Amaze replacement battery in and I am off to the races.
I will personally wait for the multi-core and W8 kernal.
I was definitely looking at purchasing an extra battery for my Titan. I didn't have one for my Focus, and there were times I wished I did. However, I would definitely love to have an LTE phone. 5x speed for the same price I'm paying for data now sounds good to me.
As for throttled speed, I did several speed tests and got 5-6 Mbps and as high as 7 Mbps on my AT&T Titan using the Wi-Fi tethering and a laptop. I don't think they are throttled so much as the antenna on the Titan sucks and HSPA drops off quick with signal degradation. In fact, my only major complaint with the Titan is the antenna performance. I have to wonder if that's fixed in the Titan II.
Hmm, I have several phones so when one dies I used to just pop my Sim card in another one.
Recently, I bought a portable battery pack so I just charge my batteries from that. It's 12AH or so. Never again gonna waste money on spare batteries for each and every phone I get...
I was debating on getting a portable battery pack, but wasn't sure how well/fast they worked. Which one did you get?

I got the Newtrent IMP1000
There are some up to 20AH or so, but after looking through many reviews I settled for 11.1AH, because a lot of the reviews were saying the bigger ones were melting or otherwise breaking down in some fashion. Mine is only 2-3 months old, and I've only charged it 3 times, so the capacity is just fine for me, and it doesn't look like it's going to die any time soon.
Charges your device as fast as a USB charger. Mine is 5V 1A output, but there are models that support up to 2A output (for iPad and other). Since I only have one device that uses 2A I didn't think it was worth getting. The battery itself charges at 2A 5V input, and takes about 8 hours to charge (I remember when AAs took 8 hours to charge...)
It comes with a USB plug that has several interchangeable heads (microUSB, miniUSB) but I never really use them. I bought a nice backpack, packed up the battery, all necessary cables and my old phones, my laptop and laptop gaming accessories and I keep it in my car (it doesn't charge the laptop, to be clear. USB out only). I could go for weeks without an outlet , just hope my car never gets stolen.
Here are the ones I compared

I think HTC shouldn't have named this device as the "Titan 2".
Because it only has a better camera/battery and of course 4G LET;on the other hand,it's thicker and the backside has less aluminum and more plastic(Compared to Titan 1)
True. XDA thinks it should've been called the Titan LTE and I agree. It would better clarify the 4G product choice and also show it's an incremental upgrade.

I expected better from HTC
I figured that HTC would have done a lot better, after reading though the thread here, I'm not very impressed and now even HTC is going with the un-removable battery!
I guess it's a good money maker for the providers and manufactures, if anything goes wrong with it, just get a new err well with ATT it's a used replacement phone. Regardless of owning it for 90 days or 1 yr, their policy is after 30 days and the Phone wiggs out on ya, you get a used replacement.
Well you do have the option to send it in to ATT to get it repaired, but then you have no phone unless you have a backup phone. I when through this issue several years back with Razer Flip phone came out, I ran in to problems with key pad separating in certain places and not others on the phone, I had no choice but take a used replacement.
And when that one also had the same issues, I just gave up and got my HTC HD2 T9193 and just upgraded the rom, I think I will just stick with what I have and fall for all the glitzy hype.
Hi! I got myself the EVO 3D, love the phone but as many had the issue,
my digitaizer was a bust. so the compeny that sold me the phone said they will replace it for me for free as part of the warrenty.
the thing is, my warrenty is just for 3 months (dont ask..)
so I need to know if after you changed the digitaizer to your EVO 3D
did the new digitaizer died on you again on some point?
I've been giving the option to get my money back.
but I love the phone so Im looking for advice.
thank you
I've changed it on my wife's evo but not on my 3D. She dropped it and it cracked. Seems to be factory quality thus far.

ty for replaying,
but it got damage by a fall.
but my question is if I change the digitaizer, can I expect the digitaizer to work fine ,if no damage like a fall or water happend to the phone, to work without suddenly dieing or acting up with no reason, like happend to me and I guess others as they got the phone, after a period of time.
I replaced my entire housing because of a screwed up digitizer about 5 months ago. Haven't had a problem with my digitizer siince.

You might have to replace the LCD which is a separate part. You can't know until you replace the digitizer first. When I did it on my wife's EVO, the screen was completely white when it booted. I could here the boot sounds and ring tone when I called it but still completely white. I asked the people I bought the digitizer from and they said to replace the LCD too. The combined price for both parts were $50 USD. They include the tools for you too.
Once I replaced both parts, the phone worked fine. Again its my wife's not mine so it hasn't gone under my scrutiny but she hasn't had any complaints. Be sure to watch at least 2 different videos on youtube on how to replace the parts.
Email this company, [email protected], and ask if they have EVO 3D parts. I found them on amazon. They will provide a link to their Amazon store if they have what you need.
Mines been good so far took it to a replace center and got it replaced and its been good

I was going to wire tether and I plugged it up via the stock USB cable that came with it and all the sudden it started smoking and I unplugged it and my charger port is ruined. So has this happened to anyone? I just had a mouse plugged in the same port and it was working fine! So anyone have this happen to them? Also how can I do warranty? My boot loader is unlocked and says tampered cause I'm running a ROM.

as long as your issue isnt SOFTware related, theyre supposed to repair fine.
I have heard of stories where they check the bootloader anyway, but sounds totally hardware so go for it.

Screen issues, etc. Anyway exaxtly a week after the first phone came my entire account of 4 lines got cut off!!! 3 years of paying the bill on time and no problems they marked my account as fraud and the fraud department wouldnt do anything!!! They said it was marked as fraud cause I had two insurance claims in one day on the same line.... so two of my htc ones was insurance replacements even though they were supposed to be warrenty and on top of that I don't even have insurance on any line of my account!!!!! Att got all of there phones back except for the good working replacement. I was forced to open up another account with them as they wouldnt open the other account.. they didnt charge any etfs so all of my lines recent upgrades can now upgrade again

Instead of opening another thread about this, I'd thought I'd post here instead. This is all still fresh in my mind as I type this because my micro-USB port also fried on me no more than an hour ago.
Just over an hour ago I went to plug in my HTC One into the same charger I always plug it into every night and the red light indicator did not show up. I thought maybe it was not fully connected so I unplugged it and re-plugged it up close to my face to make sure I was making a proper connection. That is when I smelt something burnt. I quickly removed the cable before any more damage was done but unfortunately it was too late. I tried other cables and they all producing a burnt smell on both the phone end and the charger cable end. I charged my phone just fine to 100% the night before with no issues. I have never had an issue charging any phones in the past and never had an issue charging the phone until today. In fact, my charger is plugged into a surge protector which is even more baffling to me. Anyhow, I was able to pull the cable before any noticeable damage was done to the port but obviously damage was done since it smells burnt and won't charge my phone at all.
I will be taking this phone to ATT tomorrow afternoon after work to get a new phone. I do have insurance on my plan but they had better waive the $120 fee for a new phone and give me a brand new phone because I take immaculate care of my phone and my phone looks like it is in perfect, brand new condition (no scratches or any visible damage). I keep a case on it at all times to prevent damage and I don't mishandle the device. This is alarming to hear that other people have had this issue with an HTC One as well and makes me inclined to think that it maybe more than just a fluke accident like a surge of current.
Has anyone else had this issue with their HTC One? I've never had a phones usb port fry so this is quite new to me and I was wondering how common it is and if it is, is it more common with the HTC One?
