[Q]How to overclock Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 (YP-G70)? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This device comes with a big screen but the cpu is not fast enough.
Can some devs teach me how to overclock it?

devs needed to make a custom kernel

I want to OC it too.

ooh i didn't see this thread. i just made the same thread minutes ago ooo. sorry mods!

For overclocking, get app called SetCPU. However, you need to know, if it supports your phone, rom and kernel.

i dont really know about roms or kernels. im a complete noob. i have everything stock cept for the rooting part.

Well, pretty much just ask around in forums or write to developer of the app if your device/rom/kernel is supported.
You find info about rom and kernel in phone settings phone info.
Or just get the app and try it yourself. If you overclock too much, it will just start freezing, so you'll know that you have to downclock a bit.

[Q] nemesis2all kernel voltage settings

So I'm new to the to this phone and haven't had the luxury of playing with over/under-volting. I am coming from a Desire so please bare with me. I am running the 11.7.1 MIUI build with nemesis' new otb kernel with deep sleep fix. I have voltage control installed and understand how to make the changes. My issue is where to begin. Are there any basic guidelines to start with? Should I o/u-volt? How much for each step? I don't want to fry my phone and I know to each his own when settings are concerned. Can anyone help me? I am trying to get the longest battery life possible without sacrificing a ton of performance. Any help would be great.

I have general guidelines in the thread you got the kernel from. Some have shared their settings in the thread. Do some reading and please post questions in appropriate section or thread relavant to question you are asking.
Thank you sir. I see I posted in the wrong section right after asked. Whoops. Sorry. Thanks for the update.

First of all, this belongs in the Q/A section so you know for next time. Now, on to your question. It sounds to me like you aren't too much interested in overclocking if you want battery life. So, I would try keeping your max speed at 1000 and start with a -50 UV for each step. See how that treats you and then go from there. Later on maybe you can further undervolt the 100-400 steps. I wouldn't UV the 800 and 1000 steps anymore than 50 though

Most balanced kernel?

I've been browsing the development threads for weeks now and the more I read the more confused I get regarding which Kernel to use on my GS2 (XXKG2). I guess like everybody I'd like the best combination between maximum speed, battery durability and safety.
At the moment I'm using stock with CPU Master.
Any thoughts?
Hm, tough thing to answer.
Chainfire root- The simplest one out there. Keeps the kernel close to Stock.
Ninphetamine- Supports BLN, Overclocking, Voltage Tweaks etc.
There are few others too, but as I haven't tried them won't comment. Any kernel can be used with Stock firmware. Can't say about Custom firmwares as I am not interested.
Regards.
[KERNEL] SpeedMod SGS2 [K1-T27 CWM4 CIFS ROOT]
Forget about Ninphetamine unless you want to overclock.
neophyte's mirage kernel is also good for batt life. it has finer tweak settings for voltages as compared to other kernels.
I've tried them all ninpo kernel and speedmod are two of the best. Currently using the tweaked speedmod by rage which allows undervolting. Ninpo kernel gives excellent standby idle rate.

I like speedmod because i dont bother about BLN or overclocking. (1.2 GHz not good enough for you? ) And i find the governer to be more aggressive and stable on speedmod. It spends more time on the lower frequencies too, saving more battery.
I'm trying the speedmod kernel but even though the benchmark is higher it doesn't seem as fast as the original XXKG2. For instance, I'm using "Photo Wall live wallpaper" and whenever I wake up the phone it takes like a second to refresh and load the photos...this didn't happen with XXKG2 (it was instantaneous).
What is a faster but still stable kernel alternative?
You could ask a 100 people and get 100 different answers.
The kernel that is best for you is the one you try and like the best. Just because one person likes a kernel doesn't mean you will as you've already found out.
Man up, do some downloading and find out for yourself.

How helpful. I think you might just have been Ghandi in a different life.
There is a reason why I've posted this in the Q&A instead of in the development section where I would probably get an answer like yours.
I don't take chances with a 600us$ phone and won't be installing all available kernels when I can get advice here first (the reason forums like this actually exists and the reason why I love them...well, most of the time).
Photos live wallpaper etc would be more of a rom thing, than a kernel thing.
As far as best or what have you kernel, there is no best, i find ninphetamine to be good, you may not, and this might just end up turning into another thread of generic repetition and general uselessness.
The best way is to try them, as the person above said.

I am using KG6 with ninpheghamine 2.1.3 and quick and giving me almost two days of battery life but again maybe other kernels out there are better. You can try other ones and compare.

Christ on a bike. You do understand what you are getting into when you start dicking around with your phone and custom kernels don't you? You don't take chances with a 600 dollar phone - I'm afraid you are doing, everytime you install any custom rom or custom kernel. However there is no more risk in installing one custom kernel than another custom kernel (when they are out of beta anyway), but what people prefer is massively subjective! Theres no such thing as "the most balanced kernel" because people have differing views on which kernel offers this for them.
If your not sure about a kernel why not read the thread for that kernel and see what feedback its got. If you open a thread like this you'll get a ton of differing answers as you've seen already and its not going to keep you happy.
Sorry if you don't find my advice helpful, but I've managed to find the ROM I like and the kernel I like by TRYING them. Neither of which have been mentioned in this thread by the way, but I'm not going to say its best for you, because you likely use your phone for different scenarios than me.
If your going to step into the brave world of custom kernels, rooting, roms, themes, mods etc the best thing you can do - and I say this genuinely, and meaning to be helpful - is to read up on said things and try the ones you like the sound of and you trust to be safe.

Thanks. I've been reading good things about ninphetamine. I will give it a try.

Couldn't this be GPU related? Do you think apps like Chainfire3D or Overclocking free (GPU/CPU) would fix it?

[Q] We Want a new Overclock Kernel UnderVolt

hi im new in this of O.C. But i think we need a Overclock Undervolt Kernel for this Great smartphone <galaxy s 2> i've been testing some Europe Kernel but dont work home and back soft keys. After i test in a Quadrant i get score 4550 very good for this kernel but we need a full comptabible kernel for sgh-I777 someone make Please
Thanks!!!
wow, you need to be patient and not push these devs. they're doing what they can and if/when one is ready, they'll release it. And please do not compare quadrant scores....
pretty sure this thread does NOT belong in development, unless the OP is going to develop it.
yeahh i know i only want to see this phone flying so soon but we need to wait>>
Thanks for your opinion
NOT development.
The phone has only been out for a few days, there are a hell of a lot more important things to do kernel-wise than overclock/undervolt.
I'll be working on undervolt soon, but you'll likely never see overclock from me. Quadrant scores mean nothing, and the stability tradeoff of overclocking isn't worth it unless you're gaming. I never overclock, and I don't release features with a high likelihood of breaking things unless I've tested them.
Last but not least, asking in a pushy way as this is usually a good way to put your request at the bottom of someone's priority list.

So wich rom can i use the best??????
At the moment i use JB v3.0.3 but i am not really satisfied with it. (its rather slow)
Im thinking to switch to cyanogenmod because i believe im able to tweak my CPU. (correct me if im wrong)
At the moment this option isnt able to work on JB.
So basicly i want to know wich rom is the fastest???and with wich roms can i tweak my CPU etc.???

First thing, please post problems in Q&A section. Second thing, there is no best rom in XDA. If you want a rom that suits you then test different roms, there is a massive collection of them! Thirdly, Jelly Blast is a banned rom and Jelly Bean based roms for this phone don't exist. Fourth Thing, To tweak CPU a custom Kernal is needed. I can see it is your first time and hopefully you will learn!

Because OP ask For Best
Thread closed
@Sanamy , "Best Rom" threads are frowned upon a XDA. Why? Because what is good for some people, may not be good for you.
Also, best rom threads cause arguments between loyal users of specific roms, and basically have absolutely nothing to do with development, which is what XDA is all about. Not to mention it's just another thread that clogs up the "search" feature.
My advice on making your choice;
1) Read the OP and the last 10 pages of the ROM thread. You'll get an understanding of how the latest release is running.
2) Determine your needs. If you're looking for a gaming rom, then you'll probably want a kernel that's OC'd CPU and GPU.
3) Try a few different ROMs. All devices are NOT the same, and behave differently with different ROMs.
Above all, READ and UNDERSTAND the flashing requirements until you know them well, and understand what you're getting into. Don't be afraid to ask a specific "n00b" question. Most of the folks are here to help, although you will get a couple of "bad apples" who prefer you use the search feature before asking (this is of course, the proper way).
And to some of you "Old Hands", and you know who you are, don;t be so harsh. You also were new to XDA at one time, and probably posted the same (Do I really need to research and post some of your "n00b" posts when you first joined?)
To the other user that actually helped, thanks.

Need help with choosing ROM for Galaxy S2

Hello,
I was really into XDA forum few years ago but some things got into my life so I backed off a bit. I still got my SGS II tho and there is Siyah Kernel 3.0.33 - 3.3.1+ version installed on top of Ressurection Remix ICS 2.0 by westcrip 4.0.4.
As I'm not into the flow anymore and I need advice fast as possible because I'm reformating my SGS II soon - I need recommendation. I need a ROM who currently gives me the most bugfixes and most stability and speed. That's all I'm about, I like speed, good functions and a lot of bugfix/speed scripts automatically installed but still - ROM that flows with newest Android versions.
Can I get recommendation for ROM and Kernel?
Thanks.
No, you can't. Rom/kernel recommendations are forbidden here. For a simple reason - you will not have the same experience of a given rom or kernel as someone else due to phone setup & usage. There are too many variables involved.
Make a nandroid, go over to the two development sections, read some thread, try out some roms/kernels.
Mods will be closing this thread shortly.
I would rather spent my time testing someones recommendation then trying so many ROM's by my own hand, this way I can set the percentage of **** ROM's down to less percent and good stuff higher ... but yeah, thanks, you were very, very helpful.
Not interested. Rules are you try these things yourself. Stop being lazy.
More like an order, I'm not lazy, I'm just trying to spare time, and I guess everyone does that, maybe not if you don't have anything important to do. I'm not saying this to interest you ...
Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread.
