Is there anyone else out there with some problem? my phone goes into fastboot no problem but the PC is not allowing me to run the fastboot.exe
i tried downloading it from multiple sources and on windows 7 x64, mac os x snow leopard, windows vista x32
tried running it in compability mode under windows xp, etc... nothing..
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
You must run it from a command prompt, like ADB.
You would cd to the directory it's in. Mine looks like cd C:\android
Then you would type in something like fastboot oem unlock

When I go to fastboot mode, I can't use it. I type fastboot devices but I get blank screen.q I install drivers and I can use adb from WinXP and Linux.
What to do?
Thank's in advince
Use the latest fastboot binary from the android sdk (linux). On windows you might need some driver hack that is floating around here somewhere.
€: For windows: If adb is working you should also be fine eith a recent fastboot binary.
I installed drivers and downloaded lastest sdk(you have it in first post).

I was messing about with the same thing. When you type fastboot devices it can give strange answers. Mine came up with: ? fastboot. When i typed fastboot devices. So i kept looking and uninstalling and installing and always the same answer. So i tryed to send some commands to the folio and Viola! it was connected. But if it dont answer you just have to follow this guide on setting up ADB and Fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915894 Good luck
If I understood,I must install drivers when I'm in fastboot mode?

It is the same driver/udev rule that adb uses, so if adb works, fastboot should also.
So I go into fastboot mode on the phone, everything is fine. I try to use a windows 7 laptop that has the android sdk and the dell toolkit, change the driver to the bootloader driver, and it just sits there and says waiting for device.
my old windows xp laptop, i fired it up (and remembered why i upgraded), and loaded the dell software, and the android sdk, and it doesn't have the bootloader driver as a choice. I can choose the standard driver, or composite. Both are less than successfull using fastboot, it just sits there and waits for the device.
What am I doing wrong? Aside from using windows.
I have yet to look into osx options for updating things, should I cut my losses and pull my macbook pro out?
Go to dell download latest drivers, cleared up all my problems, on Win 7 64 bit.
Have you tried typing -i 0x413c after fastboot. Download the multi recovery flasher put whatever you want to flash in the folder it creates then navigate to it in cmd. It has all the right drivers. Good luck.

Everything was the latest versions available, 32 bit windows 7.
Solved my problem, found fastboot-mac, simple chmod to the correct permissions and the exact terminal command was 6 characters different than what I was trying in windows.
"./fastboot-mac -i 0x413c dsp1 dsp1.mbn" versus
"fastboot -i 0x413c dsp1 dsp1.mbn"
i am trying to update my phone (dell streak 5 stock rom 2.2.2v351 build15609) using the latest OTA gingerbread but seems like i have been encountering some problems i cant access my fastboot my phone goes on fastboot mode but once i open the fastboot.exe on my pc it opens then closes at once so i cant do anything on it can somebody please help me on this. my pc is running on win 7 x64 i7 8gb ram

Open fastboot.exe from command prompt in windows

fastboot isn't a typical windows program. It's a command line tool. You would open a command prompt and type in the command as such:
fastboot.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
The above example is to flash a file named recovery.img to the recovery partition.
Be very careful with fastboot. It's about the only way to brick this phone.

What OS are you running on the computer? When you use the fastboot command, is your phone in fastboot mode?

Windows 8 and no, I am either in standard mode on the phone or in bootloader
Make sure you're not plugged into a usb 3.0 port

Go in bootloader, then fastboot, then run the fastboot command. Should pop up then.
in normal mode do adb devices, if it shows up drivers are fine

I'm on windows 8, used the 3.0 port, uninstalled and deleted all HTC drivers, installed PDAnet exe
As I have noticed, many users here in the DX Forum have problems connecting their phones to the PC via fastboot / adb. So I decided to write a short tutorial on how to achieve this with the help of a linux live cd. As you may know, there won't appear problems in linux with the drivers because they're already included in the kernel.
First, lets start with what you need.
You'll need:
A blank USB pendrive
A PC capable of booting from USB (will explain that later)
A micro USB cable
An HTC Desire X
If you meet all these requirements, first download a few things:
YUMI: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/
A linux live CD. For this tutorial I use system rescue cd: http://www.sysresccd.org/Download
adb and fastboot binaries for linux, which I'll attach to the thread.
Then, you need to make your stick bootable using YUMI. Just start the downloaded file and follow the instructions. Be careful to choose the right volume! All data on the volume chosen will be lost! Scroll down to find the entry for system rescue cd and choose the appropriate iso image you downloaded before, let YUMI finish your stick. Before rebooting, copy the adb and fastboot binary to the USB drive using explorer.
After this is done, restart your PC. Check boot priority in BIOS to be sure it will boot your stick before your harddrive. In the YUMI boot menu, choose System Tools -> System Rescue CD. In the system rescue cd menu, choose "Directly start graphical environment". Wait for Linux to boot up. You'll be greeted by the LXDE screen with a terminal window showing a root prompt. There, you just type "cd /livemnt/boot". Connect your HTC Desire X to the PC. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled. Now, you can type "./adb devices" and see if it recognizes your phone. If you want to use fastboot, just type "./adb reboot bootloader" and your phone will directly boot into fastboot mode. There, you can test connectivity with "./fastboot devices".
If you want to flash a kernel, be sure to copy the boot.img to your USB drive before booting the live cd. When you successfully tested connectivity with your phone via "./fastboot devices", just issue "./fastboot flash boot boot.img". For a recovery, do a "./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (make sure the file recovery.img exists).
I hope this will help many users with the procedure of flashing kernels via fastboot and connect their phones via adb.
Thank you very much
Good work

Give this a try on Win 8.1 (not win 8) .. got both adb and fastboot permission denied.

When did you get permission denied? On which step? adb and fastboot binaries are for linux only. They're extracted from platform-tools folder of android-sdk for linux and to be run on a linux live cd as I wrote in my tut. Just follow the steps exactly.

It works on Win7 but not Win8.1
And I guess it works on Win8 too.

I already said. The goal of my tutorial is to be able to run adb and fastboot from a linux live system, not to run them on Windows. The usb stick has to be prepared in Windows though, which should work on Win 8.1 too (didn't got the oppurtunity to test, I'm waiting for the official update rather than running beta software).

Let's forget it as I said before that I don't really need this, it may come handy for some people.

is referring to running by booting to the linux live cd which is in the usb stick not on windows itself
(more or less the same way I run the gparted live cd)

You mean you can't boot the usb stick? You have to set the options in BIOS correctly. If you have a new PC with Windows 8 or 8.1 preinstalled, you need to disable Secure Boot and activate CSM Boot Modus.

I can boot the usb stick, no problem with that.
There's something in DX and One S that got problem with Win 8.1 but not for One X and One V.
hi , this is great , but any way to use it with sony xperia models ? thanks.
I don't know those, so I can't tell what you need there exactly to do similar things with your phone through adb and fastboot, so maybe just try yourself and find out?
