I keep hitting the search key with my palm by accident when I type. Is there a way to disable it completely? I saw some evo 4g solution but I wasnt sure if I needed root access to get it done or if it will work on evo 3d either. If someone could help me that'll be great. Thanks.
Try to long press it and see what options are available. I have mine set to lock but I can't remember if there was an option to do nothing.

I wasn't aware you could change what it does?

Cut out a square of duct tape and cover it.
It doesn't let me lock it. It will let me set to other search function though which doesnt solve my accidental contact problem.

+1 I am having the same problem
Try searching for an app called Button Remapper on XDA. Or you could edit the file in /system/usr/keylayout/ruby-keypad.kl
I haven't messed with it on this phone, but you should be able to change the function of the buttons, make it not wake the phone, or just leave it blank. I'd make a backup before messing with it, save a copy of the original files, and when you edit them try to make them look as much as possible to original as you can add far as formatting and spacing.
If this is over your head, be very very very careful. Or don't do it, haha. Good luck!

Keep in mind that you need root to do this.

If you look in the pic thread you'll see my phone holder in my car. The way it sits almost every bump activate the camera. Very annoying if I'm trying to record or listen to my music through my radio.
I don't think its too over my head, but ill still be very careful. Thanks again.

I recently reflashed CM7 and I remember being able to long press the back button to force close an app. I can't find this in settings, could someone tell me where it is. Also, I now have a clear button on the bottom of my notifications. How would I remove this

Ummm, the "Clear" button? As in translucent? I didn't know the X2 had a clear button.
I have power, volume up and down, menu, home, back, and search.

Seems like a silly place to bury that setting. Thanks for the tip, though.
There is a button that says clear in the pull down status bar when there are notifications

Ah! Got it! Yes, that is to clear all temporary notifications. Like email and text message notifications (there are many, many more that flash a notification to the status bar).
Ciao!
Yes, but it's annoying. How would you go about removing it.
One other question. The 3g tethering in CM7, is that through the carrier. Will Verizon change me for using this, our do I need to use a separate app to get around fees.

No, it's not through Verizon. If it were, it would take you to there sign up page when you use it. I doesn't. Will they catch you if you use it? Who knows. I don't imagine you'll draw any more attention if you use it than you would with any other tether app. My guess is, if you don't go crazy with it you'll be just fine. Could be wrong though. Personally, I don't worry about it. But then, I only use it when it's absolutely necessary.

How could we go about removing the clear button? One way is to open your notifications...ie: text, email, etc... The other way to remove it completely would be to disconnect from mobile data/wifi/internet... An easier way could be to smash your phone, but I don't suggest that...lol
What is annoying, the notifications or the buttons???

Is there a way to disable them. I always accidentally hit them when I'm using the S note app
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
You mean the capacitive buttons? I don't think there is an easy way to do it, you'd pretty much have to rewrite the framework. Maybe someone good in the kitchen has already done this and can help you. Good luck.

Some apps like lecturenotes allow you to disable the button while writing.

There is a thread in here about this.. and you should read the discussion about it... perhaps search with key word 'disable Capacitive buttons'?
Edit: this isn't the thread/discussion I was referring to but I just came by this piece of information, check it out....

PLEASE BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW HOW IT WENT
because I want to disable those buttons myself but haven't had chance to root my Note and install custom ICS yet. Good luck!
Getting into the framework is the only place I have seen this
Hello I'm jonathan michael. And I was wondering if someone knows this app.
Description of the app:
This app needs of root access I think lolz. It has the options to turn to the next home screen by passing your hand true the phone without touching it and it don't use the front camera to be able to use this options. It also can turn the device off by passing your hand up or down left or right whatever the option you choosed, and you can do all this without touching the device or use the camera. It just like a hand motion thing. I'm hoping someone knows what's the name of this app!

I tried a few different widgets but they all take you to setting and make you go through all the steps. Is there a way to turn it on with one click? It sucks when you are trying to pay and have a lot of steps to turn it on.

I don't know which one will work as I never needed it but go down the list till you get it to work.

Good luck.
I thought there was a NFC widget you can put on the homescreen? I'm not on a stock rom anymore, but I remember I had wifi and BT widgets on one of my home screens for quick access.
you can also put the NFC toggle with the quicktoggle panels that you can open from the notifications pane, so at least you won't have to go into the settings.
