Do any of the 3G Speed increase hacks (I read one that you have to add something to build.prop work for hte X2? My 3G speed honestly stinks, and i have full signal! It even stinks when im at work, which has Verizon Towers on the Building! At home i get about .33 Meg Down, .16 Meg up? Most i have seen is about 1.5 Down 2x since i had the phone.
I did this on my Nexus One and Nexus S, both on Tmobile, and It does work like a charm but I do beleive it is only for GSM devices......god i hate Verizon
I'm curious about this as well, but it seems like most of the people running 3G speed tweaks are on T-Mobile or other networks?
Also, I ran across a tutorial for pointing your 3G connection to OpenDNS servers. Has anybody here done this?

I just got the phone and I cannot find the right radio to use in order to get 3g speeds:
. What is the best radio to use in order to get 3g and HSUPA speeds over 300 kbps/sec? I use to have this speed when I got my AT&T 8525 that is ancient now. How do I get the speed I use to have off the 8525 on this phone?
Thank you for your responses in advance.

Do you mean HSDPA?
(downlink - tower to phone)
or
HSUPA
(uplink - phone to tower)?
Is your posted speed from the downlink test?

well as u see i am new at this. i read a lot from these forums since i love the htc product. but i don't know how to tether or anything like that. i just installed the radio i just displayed hoping to be able to get 3g speed. but it stays at edge at all times.

and the site u used to determine my speed i just found off google is a downlink site. and still my speed is slower than edge speeds.
Keep in mind the tower that is servicing your phone can have crap for bandwidth too.
I was near Gretna, VA on a trip and had full bars on 3g. I swear they had a dial-up modem on the other end of the tower though. Google maps were loading up slower than a typical edge connection.
In the end, it may not be your radio that's giving you trouble.

I tried it through out Atlanta today. Different towers and several areas of metro Atlanta. West Atlanta, North Atlanta, and East Atlanta.
Keep in mind my phone is the htc touch pro. I do not have the brand names from t-mobile or AT&T.
Should I try a different rom or is that a useless effort?

You may have a hardware limitation. I noticed on the various Rhodiums that were around and for sale, the unlocked Touch Pro 2's stated they were not ATT 3G compatible, although they were 3G compatible. Apparently there are different implementations of 3G.
You may want to look into whether that is something in the firmware associated with the radio (Radio ROM) or the hardware itself.
Sounds like sprint
If you have the SPRINT service or a SPRINT phone, you do not have the "3G" icon enabled. This is because SPRINT uses the EDGE network and not the 3G network. They say that their network now (REV A) is actually what they consider 3.5G and is supposed to be faster than regular 3G . I have no issues with my phone with the speed, however, if you want the 3G to display, find a custom task bar and that icon will change to the 3G. Once again, SPRINT does not display "3G"
Hope this helps.

i looked into the hdw side of things ... it looked like it is compatible according to the specs. i did notice there r some firmware update on htc that was released this yr. i'll have to look into that.

i thought of that too. that this rom my not have the 3g icon, but from time to time it will show "G" and then back to "E". and as far as i know ... i shough have close to 300kbs or more for downspeed. and i right?
thanks everyone for all of ur input. i'll look into all of it and get back to u. thx again.
If you have a standard Touch Pro (not Fuze or T-Mobile version), there's a very good chance you accidently picked up European version of it. European version will have European 3G, which is not compatible with US 3G frequency bands. Look into your documentation and see if you phone supports the following:
AT&T uses 850/1900
TMobile uses 1700/2100
European frequency bands are 1800/2100 if I remember correctly.
I have the Fuze and radio 1.14.25.35, and I get 396kB/s with only 2 bars...
Oh, and I'm in Connecticut.
lame!
something has got to be wrong man....i live hours away from 3G and if i even look at my phone wrong i lose reception!
BUT i got 281-392 Kbps!
Have you called your provider?

That could be true, but the documentation i have states:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
the 850 and 1900 Mhz should not matter if its in europe or in usa, right???
but there is a new updates. i Used IE on the phone and my speed is incredible. i was able to test 3mb and it came back with speeds higher than fast 3g. just like my old phone. but under opera it would not go any faster than 40 kbs. i used another browser called skyfire. and i went to mobilespeedtest and got: . i went to cnet brandwidth test and got 3632.3 kbps. lol. amazing it looks like opera was my problem. hear are all of my results:
opera: (after testing using the other browsers now i get these results)
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
.6745 mbps
IE:
mobilespeedtest
.408 mbps
Skyfire:
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
3.2588 mbps
is it me ... or does your phone get warm when u use the net for a long time???
I doubt that the results are valid with a browser like Skyfire. It does all the rendering on the skyfire server instead of on your phone. It's probably reporting the rates in between the test site and the Skyfire server. Skyfire is fast, though; it's much faster at bringing up a full webpage than any other browser. You can open up espn.com in about 5 seconds.
I've always had good luck with my radio [see signature]
I was a G1 user forever... And I remember there being talk of making the G1 able to utilize the HSPA network... so does that mean it is possible for any phone utilize it? or.... ??? I am kinda confuised... maybe it can utilize it... but not be able to utilize the maximum HSPA+ speeds....
It's hardware. Don't you think every phone would have HSPA+?

Yeah, you heard right. pretty much all the newer tmo smart phones will be getting a boost, but they will not be getting the full speed unless they have the hardware. So, you will get the full 3G speed and depending on your reception, you might go a little faster. Almost like a speed boost. To take advantage of the full 4g or HSPA+ you will need the hardware.
I heard there isn't a HUGE difference as of yet between the normal HSPA and HSPA+ hardware in terms of speed. I was in LA two months ago and I was getting 4.5 megs down with my Nexus One which isn't HSPA+.
Maybe later on down the line when HSPA+ is full rolled out across the country and they bump the speeds up even more then at that point having the HSPA+ hardware will make a difference but I don't see that happening for a while.
In the meantime, here's to hoping we all get covered by the network soon!
i live in So Cal with normal 3g now. a few months ago when i had mt3g, I Went to an area where they had to new network. it was MUCH faster. and this was with mt3g
"The Vibrant will have HSPA+ when the Froyo update comes out. T-mobile Is dropping it this month. So really soon." was searching for that same question of the vibrant getting some sort of update that would allow the hardware to decode the data packages, its the same thing like the g1. when the towers updated to hspa+ from regular hspa it was only a software upgrade what makes anyone think that these new powerful phone wont be able to get a software upgrade also? so the answer is more to yes than no. and to "It's hardware. Don't you think every phone would have HSPA+?" why dont you think about that for a little. g1 did it so can this & yes the original galaxy s has hspa+ hardware but i think it was disabled in the us version until we would need it since it would use more power just being left on without it being used. also rumor is that the hummingbird chip is running at 1.2 gighertz in the i9000 so i overclocked my virbrant at 1.2 gighertz & its running with no problems! also we might need those extra 200 hertz to keep things running normal if we get the hspa+ upgrade im pretty sure it will need it.
I've already done the APN fix on these forums, and even with that I've seen no change. I average anywhere from 1.0-2.0 mbps on speedtest. Highest I've seen is 3.8mbps. That's a far cry from 7+.
With my old Infuse 4g in the same areas I've averaged about 5-7 mbps which makes a big difference, so I'm inclined to think something is wrong versus just bad luck.
Also, what gives with even 5-7, shouldn't H+ be hitting 10ish? Looking at the "4g" coverage map for AT&T, I'm smack in the middle of a fast area. I live in central NJ.
Any ideas guys? Thanks.

Which APN are you on? 'phone' or 'wap.cingular'?
I'm grandfathered on one of the old accounts with 'unlimited' data.. and and I have to use wap.cingular..
I assure you, you aren't alone in this gripe.
If I didn't know any better I would call foul on AT&T. When my phone was new, I got anywhere from 1-6.5 at the highest, averaging around 3.5 maybe 4. It seems like as soon as I changed my plan to the 4G unlimited, my speeds refuse to go above 2.
I tries a SIM swap, the usual "fixes" and they even reset the data plan. No change. I haven't got higher than 2mb since June. And they swear up and down they aren't throttling me.
It would be nice if someone could explain this whole data deal.
Have you noticed though that performance doesn't seem slow at all though. My connection, even when streaming video doesn't so much as hiccup.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
They might be expecting an influx of SGS2 on their network in the coming weeks and might be trying to discourage excessive data usage and as with any new phone, people tend to download heavily with all the new apps and syncing.
There really shouldn't be any reason for such a big difference in speeds. Highly unlikely the phone itself is faulty as build quality is superb, but might be worth swapping for a new one just to rule it out. If that doesn't fix it, then ATT is must be doing something on their end to specifically limit the speeds of specific types of devices and that shady stuff doesn't surprise me.
Try different modems, as I have noticed a huge difference in speed, from Down/Up 50Kbps/200Kbps (odd) to 400Kbps/215Kbps depending on modem version and congestion, I think my local tower has crappy backhaul as well.
All my data for 3UK in the UK is here
By the way, I also average faster speeds with wap.cingular than the phone APN fix.
How is that possible, as that is directly opposite what MANY on here report?
Seems to be happening a lot with Hotspot + 4G on any rom I've used.
If I try and use 4G while on hotspot, it could work for a hour like it did this morning now 4G only works on the phone itself.
Now 3G on hotspot works perfect currently but kinda redundant when I wanna use the 4G feature, thus why I got the Thunderbolt.
Anyone else ever encounter issues with the Hotspot feature? Seems a lot of people do even if they are paying for it and not paying for it.
I am running Nons3ns3 on my TBolt Hotspot is real slow. I am in a 4g area and my phone shows 4g, but my download speeds are 1-2 mbps tops and it fluctuates. It just seems something is up.
I have tried Open Garden and Barnacle, both work about the same in terms of slow speeds.
Im getting the same exact results across 4 different ROMS I've flashed since I've had this phone. I'm on TheROM fyi.
I'm in the Chicago area on base and its good, but bloody hell Verizon doesn't have LTE top notch and I'm grandfathered in for the Unlimited plan still before they switched
This is a typical speedtest where i work with S4 vs my One.
As we know from my other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451516 the S4 is a complete and total joke when it comes to voice recognition so I swapped it out for the One. The only problem I have with the One as the voice recognition is second to none, is the data speed. Some days it decides it's not going to pick up an LTE signal under any circumstances and some days it does but it seems that the download speed appears to bleed off to almost nothing as seen in this pic. No programs are running at the time I did the speedtest here and both phones ran their speed test separately.
Something is not right.
I'm not having that trouble with my One. I'd take it back and get another. My LTE is usually around 20Mbps and I've had it as high as 37Mbps.
Something is wrong with your phone. While I wish T-mobile had better coverage, when I am in a good area I am getting fantastic speeds on my One.

While I don't have two tmo LTE phones, I did switch from straight talk and my tmo LTE is horribly inconsistent while the ATT LTE signal on the same phone is solid wherever I had reception. It also has a weird issue with speed test in particular where it keeps routing me to a server in Denver or Albuquerque even though the location services work fine.
Tmo hspa isn't great in my area but still more consistent by far. I may just switch back to straight talk even with the cap as I have zero issues on ATTs LTE network and don't stream anything other than music. The phone is by far my favorite, even compared to my friend's N4 (the camera and screen spoil you, and I can't see feeling the need to upgrade for a few years now that I have a camera I'm satisfied with)
edit: t-mo LTE is -103 inside or out, ATT LTE is -88 with excellent and consistent speed (ping is a bit higher at 240 as prepaid often is, but that's fine for everything I do). And it's certainly not an issue of grip, as I actually get better ATT LTE while holding it than setting the phone down
