[Q] WiFi Error, not allowing connection after Litening Rom installation - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I recently put Litening Rom 1.5 on my SGS 2.
Prior to this the WiFi was working fine and I believe shortly thereafter (can't be sure). Now though the phone defaults to 3G. Under Settings > Wireless and Network > Wi-Fi settings the Wi-Fi box is unchecked with the word "error" underneath "WiFi". Whenever you try checking it, it says "turning on" for about 10seconds before returning to "error".
Anyone else experienced this or any suggestions, all pointers very much appreciated?
Thank you

flash back your CF-Root and your wifi should be working again...

Will try that when I get back home.
Does this mean though that I can't have Litening 1.5? I've not heard of other people experiencing this. The file I oriinally downloaded had 4 parts. Three were pretty obvious in terms of where to sync with Odin i.e. had CSC in the title, TAR file and one called PIT. However, I presumed I should insert all 4 in the relevant boxes of Odin. Was this wrong?
Thaks for the advise so far.

no you can use litening....your step is correct...just try to flash back your cf-root if u using for rooting.....
btw couple of user have same problem in which after flashing modified rom sometimes the wifi not working....so when they flash back cf-root kernel, wifi works again

+1 for me. reflashing kernel worked fine

Hmmm!
Well the good news is that reflashing the CF Root worked and I got the WiFi back again. The bad news is, that when I put the phone down and picked it up again 20 mins later, it had gone back to it's old bad habits.
Tried reflashing CF Root again but this time no result.
Looking through the phone I'm wondering if it could be either a confliction between system operations or a dodgy app (less likely this one).
The reason I say this is because at present I have to ways of quickly turning Wi-Fi on and off. 1 is the swipe down action from the top of the home screen, which gives the Litening Blue toggling buttons and the other is residing on my 2nd home screen which are the green toggling buttons which were their before Litening. I could be wrong but both with the problem occurring are not illuminated. Attempting turn WiFi on only illuminates one of these temporarily. Therefore just wondering if on is cancelling out the other?
What would you suggest trying next, perhaps Villian Rom incase it's a Litening thing? If not, any other setting I should try adjusting both on the SGS2 or in Odin etc

i believe your issue is down to installing a corrupt rom...why i say corrupt coz you didnt clear the calvik cache, wipe data when flashing the room etc...well my advise is to start everything from fresh..root your phone with CF-Root and boot in CWM mode..follow the basic step
start clearing cache, wipe data etc and install back the custom rom. or you may try back with official rom see if u face similiar issue...
another option is to upgrade / downgrade your baseband modem....i'm using XXKF2 which is the best in my setup in my country, signal more stable and good connectivity compare to KE7...some user in different country prefer KE7.......coz they got issue with KF2

Thanks Gchildz for your continued assistance.
Ref stable baseband modem what would you suggest in my case: I live in the UK but spend much of my working time in Europe, Middle East and former Soviet Republics? I appreciate that residing in one country would be much easier to determine the baseband but as a frequent traveller, is there a baseband that is all things to most of the places mentioned? To be fair, most of the accommodation is in the middle to upper end of the spectrum and therefore they WiFi I'd be using would usually be setup by an independant company with a reasonable budget, rather than a flee pit hotel with a cheap and nasty router.

Follow-up
Further to last, it would seem that I'm really not having much luck with this.....
I reinstalled CF-Root, then flashed to Villain 1.4 and still the Wi-Fi is not working. I even put on top the optional Modem file and again nothing but this darn "Error".
If I could, I would change the original thread title to "Error msg when trying to turn on WiFi" as it would appear to not be peculiar only to Litening now.
BTW Regarding the corrupted ROM I did clear the cache, factory reset etc 100% this time around. I thought I had last time but could be 100% posititve. I'm using Odin v.183, that shouldn't make a difference should it?

Wi-Fi & GPS unresponsive

I seem to be having a small(or large?) issue with my Wi-Fi connectivity - after rooting my phone it didn't surprise me that I lost GPS functionality, it didn't surprise me that I never got it back but hey I can live without it if it means I don't have to wait for HTC.
What's beginning to bother me is the fact that my phone can't manage a Wi-Fi connection it could 3 days ago.
Tried restoring my 1st nandroid backup that I made immediately after I flashed the custom recovery and I still had no Wi-Fi. And no GPS.
Also I have tried flashing 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 as well as 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 with no result on either front.
Please help me out if ya can.
What ROM you using pal?
1st thing to try is to put both your GPS and WiFi on, then turn your phone off and back on again.
I'm currently trying to use SenseHero 2.2
I have tried turning on both WiFi and GPS and rebooting, I have also tried similarly - leaving them on and flashing the radio too...
It doesn't seem to be helping all too much.
Furthermore(and the part that concerns me most) I have tried restoring my initial nandroid, the 1st one I made and saved after flashing the custom recovery and still nothing.
and there's no mention of issues in the Sensehero thread no?
If I was you,....
I'd backup my sd,... Format it. Then run a RUU so it unroots and goes back to stock state,... then see if it is working again or not.
I've been searching threads over as many forums I can find for DAYS. But still a no go..
I suppose I'll try to unroot it. I haven't finished researching the RUU's, does it matter which one I use?
Well apparently unrooting the phone doesn't reinstate the GPS or WiFi connectivity.... GPS still "unable to determine location" and the WiFi still SEES the WLAN networks in range but still cannot connect to any of them.
I can't seem to find anyone else who has had problems with WiFi connecting let alone wifi AND gps problems.

Bell SGS2 3G Data Connectivity Issues

Ok so I've been reading around in a few threads about this but haven't quite found a solution in my case and I think I need a second opinion. I've also posted in other on going threads but it just gets lost in the rabble so.... it now gets it's own thread.
Bought a brand new Bell SGS2 from a dude on Kijiji. It was brand new, still in the box with the plastic all on it. I SIM unlocked it (which required rooting it) and dropped my Rogers SIM chip in.
I can send/receive txt's but 3G data drops frequently and usually happens once I initiate a data session. My test case uses SpeedTest. I've only seen it complete a full test cycle twice... most of the time, it will get the ping, start the download test and 10% in, the data connection drops and 3G/H+ icon disappears. It takes about 1-2 mins for the data connection to return. I've tried market access or web browsing and same thing happens once a data session initiates.
I've installed a slew of modem/ROM combinations via Odin from XXKH3 to XXKI4... nothing... same issue. Seemed worse with KI4 too!
I've tried different APN settings, disabling fast dormancy and specifically trying to enable only HSPA bands. Nothing. Same problem.
I've since reverted back to stock BELL firmware and tried a friends Bell SIM chip and noticed THE SAME thing happening! So this would definitely tell me it's a hardware problem. It's been more than 15 days so Bell won't even talk to me as the return period has passed and I'm not a bell user so screw them.
I guess at this point, I should test my luck with Samsung but it's been rooted and even though I've un-rooted the binary counter shows 2 which means.... I'm screwed for warranty right?
U can reset the binary counter after flashing back to it original state by using jig. Google for galaxy s2 jig
Btw, why dont u just flash original samsung I9100XXKI3 rom? Which provide good modem. Check my signature, 'boot loop', theres a link lead u to installation guide with download link provided. All is there.

I personally found XXKI3 Modem to be best for Bell's SGS2 (currently using it on Telus).
Tried all the modems' including KI3... didn't work.
In recovery mode, fix permission, reboot and check the 3g again.
Try another method, flash cm7 nightly latest version #16. If the problem still exist, thats mean its related to phone's hardware.

Well I got it new out of the box but I had to SIM unlock it which required rooting and etc....
I did power-volume up-home... got into recovery mode and... there is no option to fix permissions. Keep in mind this is the stock ROM I put back on.
CM7 is another idea.... not against that.
Well. Maybe some failure occured during rooting your phone before. Install rommanager app from the market, open then select flash recovery mode, then select your phone model.. This will give u recovery v4 which will give u more option on recovery mode. This is the easiest way to get more option cwm. U will have fix permission option when u done.

i have the same problem i.e data loses connection. after a fresh flash of stock rom and factory reset , it starts working fine for a week or so and then the shyt happens again . i can tell u , its not a hardware issue, it more like a software issue.
i m not good at android but wen i used to run squid on a linux machine as a proxy server , i recall i had to clear a log file to make data flow possible every few days. i think android has a similar issues some logs files build up or some **** like that.

WiFi having trouble connecting / Not automatically connecting

My WiFi originally had no issues when I was on the stock 2.3.6 ROM/Siyah. Then I got curious about ICS and installed Lite'ning ROM 2.2 Went through numerous issues with my apps, including the aforementioned WiFi issues before I decided to just quit for now and revert to my nandroid backup of GB.
Problem is, I still seem to have WiFi issues back on GB. Didn't use to be a problem before though. I wasn't able to make a backup of the DXKL1 modem, but I did reflash XXKL1 in an attempt to fix the issue upon reverting to GB. Didn't seem to help much though. I was going to try reverting to DXKL1, however the Multiupload download link is now broken, and no one seems to have a copy of it floating around.
WiFi won't automatically connect sometimes. And on my home network (WPA2-AES or TKIP, same issue), it has trouble connecting on occasion, looping from "Authenticating" to "Saved, secured with PSK" but oftentimes never actually establishing a connection successfully.
Any ideas would be appreciated. So would a backup of DXKL1, if that is in any way related. Thanks!
Try changing kernel .
jje
I am having the same issue with ICS. And I'm sorry to say, the only fix I found until now is to go back to GB. KL1 also has some issues, and so I went even further back to KI4.
Good luck!

I had the same problem when trying to connect to my home wifi network. The phone was constantly connecting, authenticating, connecting, authenticating ...
Then I tried to connect without forcing an ip address and when it was connected I change the ip and put the one that interested me. I think it's an error in the original rom
Thing is, I'm back on GB and it seems to have "kept" the problem from my venture into ICS.
I'm currently on Siyah 2.6.14, which I've had no issues with in the past. The only thing I can see that remains different from pre-ICS nandroid is my modem, which is now XXKL1 when it used to be DXKL1.
Hope anyone can help solve this problem. I also wish my WiFi would automatically connect again.
Maby try a data / factory wipe
Yes full wipe and restore your original firmware .
Its not unusual for those that flashed ICS and then jumped back to GB to have varying problems .
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
jje
full wipes and install rom from internal SD not external SD
Crap, hoped it wouldn't have to come to that. Didn't really want to since I'm now on CM9 with all my settings set up nicely. WiFi still having the same issues.
I take it nobody else has experienced these issues and solved them?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy SIII (GT-I9300) International Crashing And Rebooting

Hi, I'm having a curious problem with my S3 and I've been unable to solve it. I watched the "noob" video and tried searching these forums as well as a google search with various combinations of the wording for my problem. Nothing matching my issue turned up, I hope I didn't miss anything.
I recently bought a S3 second hand (yes, i know, i should have known better). It was rooted and running some kind of custom ROM when I first turned it on, but I was willing to deal with it until I double checked the procedure for getting it back to stock and starting again myself (nothing against the original rooting and flashing, just like to know exactly what I'm running).
When I purchased the phone I obviously checked that all of the main things worked - calling, texts, mobile data, wi-fi etc. I get home and connect to my home wi-fi and start checking things out and setting stuff up. The phone randomly rebooted. I carry on after the reboot and about 10 mins later, another restart.
To cut a long story short, there is something wrong with the wi-fi. If I turn off wi-fi in the settings menu and reboot, everything works great. No crashes, no reboots. If however I enable the wi-fi about 50% of the time it will crash while wi-fi is activating. The other 50% of the time, it will crash as it goes into the screen lock (either via timeout or pressing the button).
I've re-flashed to it's stock version of Android (using the 'Samsung GS3 Toolkit and Odin), same problem. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
You can try updating the modem and RIL to the right version for your country, search in general forum. If it still reboots then try with another wifi source - I've seen some routers cause problems on client machines.
If you do a factory reset when you flash the modem, plus you have the latest stock ROM on board, then any remaining problems are probably hardware.
Test it fully after the factory reset, before you add any apps etc.

After much experimentation and flashing of various files to my phone I have further narrowed the problem. I've still not solved it, but getting closer I feel.
After a clean ROM flash it works like a charm regardless of how much i use the wifi etc. It's only after the first reboot that the trouble starts. It will begin randomly restarting. If I perform a factory reset from recovery mode, it works again, but starts resetting again after a reboot.
Any ideas?

[Q] i9100 wifi very short range

Hi all, my eldest kid's having a problem with the wifi on his S2 i9100 - the wifi used to work fine but has developed a fault.
The phone needs to be very close to a wifi beacon, ie within about 3 metres! So he needs to sit beside the modem to use it. I've searched but not found any solutions other than fitting a new motherboard, for now I've set up an old modem in his room as a network hub and wifi beacon, but any hints would be appreciated.
The phone is stock kernel, I had to fit a new screen some time ago but I've stripped it back down and double checked ariel connections.
Apparantly it was giving problems before the new screen was fitted - during the warranty period - but he didn't bother to tell me then!!
Re-flash the modem ODIN again

If no help, try to format every storage and flash back to the stock ROM.
If still no luck, get back to the SAMSUNG stock ROM it might help!
After all the try outs, if it still doesn't work, maybe the problem is with the Wi-Fi Antenna. You may need to replace it.
Just try to solve through flashing first!

It's not been modded, sorry I said stock kernel but should have said stock ROM (he won't let me root the phone!), have done factory reset and checked the Wifi antenna connection, the wire itself is unmarked with no sign of being trapped
TRY use ODIN to flash the stock rom again

back up first, and format everything (ROOT is recommended, full wipes are followed)
Try to use ODIN flash tool to install the original ROM, wish you all the best!
