[Q] CM7 Vibrant(T959) flashed jfd with odin. now its soft bricked - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Had CM7 on my vibrant but cant take the intability and lack of Gps. I have searched the forums and tried everything i could. I can get into download mode, but odin always gets stuck at cache.rfs. What do I do? i really dont want to take this to tmobile.

If you have the JFD pit and pda did you check the partition box? Going from CM7 to JFD you need to partition. Just make sure its the JFD odin you got.

It still hangs on cache.rfs. Im sure its the JFD for Odin. i downloaded them in one rar archive.
I'm frustrated.

At this point i would go back to CM7 if i could. The phone originally had the Phone-!-computer. its not doing that now.

Tried this and nothing

could it have anything to do with the file path thats on my computer? files scattered everywhere, but im sure my post will likely be pushed to the back of the forum. happens to me all the time.

No help for me i guess. It wont turn on except download mode, would tmobile know i bricked it if i sent it back?

You can try downloading the PIT and PDA from a different source and see if that helps.....just my 0.2. Good luck man!

try a different usb...
Thanks button if i helped

Just keep trying. It will eventually go thru. Several weeks ago I had this problem. After 3.5 hours it finally went thru.

@ skullreapper66 if your on windows seven or xp i guess keep pressing f8 or f9 one of them. when you boot up, until you go into a black menu and scroll down to disable signature verification

Didnt work. thanks though

Taken from my guide:
IF ODIN HANGS ON YOU:
- Are you using my files (all 3 of them?)
- Did you check the MD5 using Hashtab
- Are you using the cable that came with your phone?
- Have you tried other USB ports on you PC?
- Have you removed all other USB devices and rebooted (ie webcam)
Please check the MD5 of the pit/tar using Hashtab.

So is my Vibrant bricked?

I partitioned my SD card using ROM Manager, turned the phone off and got a black screen with lit keys. So, I read around and was told to use ODIN to reflash the stock TMO build, so I did. Now, Im getting the TMO logo and Galaxy S screen, but I get a black screen still.
I cannot get into download mode. I vol - and power and I get the Vibrant logo, then it goes back off. Even when plugged it, I get the batt charging animation, then back to the Vibrant screen.
I tried to push the update.zip to the SD card through ADB, but I get a permission denied message, meaning the root was killed.
So, is this phone pretty much screwed? I cant think of any other way to get it going outside of moving the update.zip to the sd card by a 3rd party measure i.e card reader/another phone
dude that's not even close to a brick as the phone is still responsive somehow..
do this:
1. pull out battery wait 5-10secs
2. connect USB to computer and phone
3. hold down the vol +/- buttons
4. plug in battery
5. you should be in download mode now
6. do what you gotta do with ODIN
good luck
Dont use that method to get to DL mode . Do it this way . First turn off your phone , then plug the usb cable into your computer ONLY . Next hold both volume buttons and plug the micro usb into your phone . Also use odin v1.3 and flash the rom of your preference .
Edit : xtone beat me to the punch

Yes using ROM Manager to repartition your phone will create the "soft-brick" you are experiencing. But as one person has already noted, this can pretty much be recovered using ODIN.
Definitely follow the advice given in Posts 2 and 3 of this thread to get into Download mode. If you're not getting the desired results using ODIN, what settings are you using? For example, what are the names of the .pit and .tar files you are using? Did you check or leave unchecked the "re-partition" option?
Sorry for the noobery. Im usually good at this.
Well, I was able to get into download mode and get ODIN to run, but im getting a MBD checksum error when I boot into recovery.
And I cannot install CWM through the market because my Application Storage is at 0.00B for some reason.

What ROM did you flash. You might want to perform a factory reset and then flash the stock JFD ROM and see if that fixes your problem.
Good luck.
Oh this is a nightmare.... exactly what happened to me.
I'll be honest, I tried and tried and tried all sorts of stuff and somehow I got it back reading again.
I would ODIN to Eugenes Froyo that doesn't brick and see where that gets you. Thread is in developers section and I am pretty sure that's what got me back working but follow ALL the instructions. With no application room I couldn't push, unistall, install ect...

That's only needed if he flashed a rom with the wrong kernel or if he flashed a rom without disabling voodoo .

Just get to DL mode as xtone and I stated in post 2 & 3 . Then flashed to JFD with odin v1.3 and click the repartition box in odin and you'll be fine .

I had this problem for the last two days, but I found a way to fix it thanks to a user (whom I don't know the name of)
I did this to go back to stock firmware (JFD), make sure you have that downloaded.
Look for Eugene's Galaxy S Froyo PDA, for the i9000, not the Vibrant. Flash it through Odin with the 512 pit file. It's not going to boot up but take you to recovery mode instead, and it's going to remap your Volume buttons, but you can still get into DL mode (up is now down, and vice versa but whatever)
Now Odin back to stock, using the same 512 pit and there you go! Should boot up with no problem. Now you can redo everything, but remember to never partition through ROM Manager ever again!

Is there a link you could provide him?

His exact symptoms happened to me when the noob in me decided to repartition in Rom Manager awhile back. I am just suggesting he uses this tool as an option. It's definitely a good tool to use regardless of how he got where he got.
something like this happened to a buddy of mine, i'm trying to fix it, but the guy was completely stock so it makes no sense... I've tried everything, and i cant seem to find eugenes files...

OK, I got it fixed. Heres how.
I was finally able to get into ODIN and flash Eugenes Froyo.
So, from there, I was getting an MD5 checksum error when Id try to get into recovery, and I couldnt install the ROM Manager from the Market
Well, upon inspection of a the Nero V3 build I had downloaded, there was a ROMManager.apk there. So I pushed it onto my phone, reflashed to CWR (had to do it about 3 times) and reinstalled Nero V3.
After installing the build, I was able to re-enable voodoo and its theres no more MD5 craziness when I access the Recovery

[Q] Tried Gingerbread, now bricked - looking for ideas

So, I tried to load Gingerbread and now all I hear now is Linda's annoying voice before it goes to a Kernel Panic.
I have tried using ODIN and Heimdall with no success.
Heimdall just returns a "fail" after about 4 seconds.
Odin3 1.7 returns a "SetupConnection..." and never proceeds.
Some notes to add as I feel these will answer most initial questions.
I am in Download mode (android character digging)
I made sure I had the drivers that came with Heimdall installed when tryign heimdall, and when using ODIN I had the Samsung Galaxy S drivers installed.
I have tried this on multiple computers with the same results.
First w/ a Windows 7 64-bit and the second was a Windows XP 32-bit
Any ideas why it is hanging up?
Any ideas what to try next?
All input is greatly appreciated and I just want to thank anyone who responds in advance for their advice.

for odin:
Reinstall the SAMSUNG DRIVERS (it works sometimes)
Use a DIFFERENT version of the ODIN program, this works for most people.
And via Ubuntu you don't need specifics drivers i think. Let me know.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Why would you hear Linda?
You never got to flash Gingerbread I'm guessing.
Go into download mode and try connecting to Odin. Pull the plug, then battery. Pop it back in and you should see a phone!pc icon. Plug in the USB and maybe Odin will recognize it.
This has worked for me before when Odin wouldn't recognize my device.
1. how do you flash gb or which rom did you flash? the cm7 or beta from whitehawk?
2. what kernel did you flash for cm7?

So, I did install Gingerbread, and I must have messed something up. I was upgrading from Eugene's Unofficial Froyo release. I downloaded the beta from whitehawk, put it on my sdcard, went into recover mode and attempted to install after backing up. After the rainbow screen I got a Kernel Panic screen, waited about 20 minutes just to see what would happen, naturally nothing. I restarted the phone. I get the Vibrant logo, then rainbows, annoying Linda's voice then the Kernel Panic Upload Mode. My assumption is the mistake I made was not having the right kernel, but now its a matter of trying to recover the phone.
Ok, I got it working, really I am not sure how. I was reading on another Galaxy S they use the home button get into download mode. Out of desperation I tried it, while the download mode didn't look any different it responded to ODIN and worked. It could have just been coincidence but whatever it worked. Thanks for all the support and I got Gingerbread in now.

Help please! Odin gets stuck half way through flash.

Hello and thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments.
Here is my problem. I was trying to flash back to stock using Odin3 and have tried many times. However it progresses to FACTORYFS and stops any progress. And it sits and sits and sits. No progress. Why??? Please. If anyone can give me any advice please do. Thanks.
Forst you need to have your phone in download mode.... if your havin trouble with the process download AIO VIBRANT TOLLBOX.. its really helpful and also you need to have the appropiate files and if it keeps doing that.... download odin again....

Are you running windows 7?
If so, reboot your computer, hit F7 to get into the safe mode options, then disable device driver enforcement.
Sounds wierd but it fixes my odin from locking up everytime.
Hi,
Can you link to the firmware you downloaded? I've seen this a few times and it was a faulty TAR package. If you are looking for a good reliable 2.1 JFD package I have on one of my download pages:

I had this same problem several weeks ago. I used the same files Ive always used to odin. Just keep trying it. It took me over 3 hours before it finally went thru. Ive been scared to use odin every since/

1. Disabled devices driver enforcement
2. Tried all 3 of my usb ports
3. Currently using Odin3v1.00 (about to search for a newer version)
4. Removed all connected usb devices
5. Rebooted twice
Results = same. Bummer
I have not checked the md5. Not really sure how to and what/where to check. I know its something that I should know by know but never have needed to till now I guess.

Cannot Go Back to Stock JFD 2.1

I did a lot of research here especially and have been diligently trying everything I found but still no joy. I think it is time to shout for help. Sorry...
I am trying to go back to stock 2.1 in an effort to be able to root my Vibrant. All I tried from the stock 2.2 failed to really root the phone (it would install Super User but that's about it).
In any case, ODIN keeps hanging on me. I duly read the noob post and applied the following:
>>IF ODIN HANGS ON YOU:
- Are you using my files (all 3 of them?) --> YES
- Did you check the MD5 using Hashtab (LINK)? --> YES
- Are you using the cable that came with your phone? --> YES
- Have you tried other USB ports on you PC? --> YES
I have tried ODIN 1.00, ODIN 1.7, ODIN 1.81 in each case using the PIT and tar file coming with the post recommending these versions. No joy...
Any pointer? Thanks!

No need to apologize, everbody needs a helping hand at some point. What are communities for, right? Now in terms of your question... Hmmm... Are you checking "Re-Partition", "Auto Reboot", and "F. Reset Time" (all three)? Another thing, I personally have never ever used my original USB cable to revert to stock 2.1. I actually use a USB cable that was meant for a blackberry phone. Perhaps trying a different cable may help? Also, at what part of the process does ODIN begin to hang?

Help!! Hard bricked my sch-i545vrufnk1 vzw s4

Hello all, I think I may have hard bricked my s4 but I can still get in to stock recovery and odin mode (download mode?) so Im sure. I've gotten out of soft brink many times but this one is winning and it's my daily driver. I'm fairly sure I partitioned ROM Slot-1 in Safestrap to small for the intnended ROM. Upon trying to reboot or power up I get black samsung custom screen and I have to pull batt to procede with only two choices: stock recovery and a file from my sd card or odin mode with proper zip file and procedure. Kies doesnt recognize and I've tried going back to NC5 through odin but that fails. I've reflashed the vrunk1 kernel and it doesnt fail but blk custom screen interupts and freezes the process.
Any help is appreciated. I FEEL that the phone is recoverable but hope is dwindling. Thanks to all.
