So, I tried to load Gingerbread and now all I hear now is Linda's annoying voice before it goes to a Kernel Panic.
I have tried using ODIN and Heimdall with no success.
Heimdall just returns a "fail" after about 4 seconds.
Odin3 1.7 returns a "SetupConnection..." and never proceeds.
Some notes to add as I feel these will answer most initial questions.
I am in Download mode (android character digging)
I made sure I had the drivers that came with Heimdall installed when tryign heimdall, and when using ODIN I had the Samsung Galaxy S drivers installed.
I have tried this on multiple computers with the same results.
First w/ a Windows 7 64-bit and the second was a Windows XP 32-bit
Any ideas why it is hanging up?
Any ideas what to try next?
All input is greatly appreciated and I just want to thank anyone who responds in advance for their advice.

for odin:
Reinstall the SAMSUNG DRIVERS (it works sometimes)
Use a DIFFERENT version of the ODIN program, this works for most people.
And via Ubuntu you don't need specifics drivers i think. Let me know.

Why would you hear Linda?
You never got to flash Gingerbread I'm guessing.
Go into download mode and try connecting to Odin. Pull the plug, then battery. Pop it back in and you should see a phone!pc icon. Plug in the USB and maybe Odin will recognize it.
This has worked for me before when Odin wouldn't recognize my device.
1. how do you flash gb or which rom did you flash? the cm7 or beta from whitehawk?
2. what kernel did you flash for cm7?

So, I did install Gingerbread, and I must have messed something up. I was upgrading from Eugene's Unofficial Froyo release. I downloaded the beta from whitehawk, put it on my sdcard, went into recover mode and attempted to install after backing up. After the rainbow screen I got a Kernel Panic screen, waited about 20 minutes just to see what would happen, naturally nothing. I restarted the phone. I get the Vibrant logo, then rainbows, annoying Linda's voice then the Kernel Panic Upload Mode. My assumption is the mistake I made was not having the right kernel, but now its a matter of trying to recover the phone.
Ok, I got it working, really I am not sure how. I was reading on another Galaxy S they use the home button get into download mode. Out of desperation I tried it, while the download mode didn't look any different it responded to ODIN and worked. It could have just been coincidence but whatever it worked. Thanks for all the support and I got Gingerbread in now.

So I dont need nexus S usb drivers?
If you've never connected the device to your PC and your PC doesn't recognize your device then yes you will need them.
I run Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and I didn't have to download them for some reason, PC recognized my phone and downloaded drivers on it's own. Can't say the same for other versions though.
Just in case here is the link to drivers.

Just make sure when your in download mode and connected that odin says com: then some number...
Thanks for the replies. Ive used Odin before but I remembered seeing someone say you needed different drivers but it seems to be working. Thanks again!

If you have the JFD pit and pda did you check the partition box? Going from CM7 to JFD you need to partition. Just make sure its the JFD odin you got.

It still hangs on cache.rfs. Im sure its the JFD for Odin. i downloaded them in one rar archive.
I'm frustrated.

Taken from my guide:
IF ODIN HANGS ON YOU:
- Are you using my files (all 3 of them?)
- Did you check the MD5 using Hashtab
- Are you using the cable that came with your phone?
- Have you tried other USB ports on you PC?
- Have you removed all other USB devices and rebooted (ie webcam)
Please check the MD5 of the pit/tar using Hashtab.

Hey guys. I think I might need some help with this one.
I was running MIUI 1.9.16 with the stock kernel and started having an issue last night with my phone being unable to send texts. I decided this morning to try to go back to stock and reflash MIUI. I was following the steps in the "***READ THIS!!!!!!*** Going from CM7/MIUI/OMFGB to another rom/Unbricking your device" thread. When I try to flash ED05 Odin freezes on param.lfs. I am using the wall charger that came with my phone and I'm also Odining without the battey in. Is there anyway to flash a new param.lfs? Or am I just screwed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You could try a different version of Odin..either 1.3,1.7, or 1.83..or try using eb01, or dl09, it shouldn't matter eclair, froyo or gb, whichever will work for you since you're going to flash miui again anyway. Just don't forget the pit file and check repartition if it isn't already

I downloaded Odin 1.83 and EB01 and I'm still getting the same problem. I'm using the Atlas v2.2.pit and I checked repartition in Odin.
I found a file called "Stock-i500-VZW-pit.pit" should I try that one instead of the Atlas .pit file?

I have tried 1.3, and 1.83. I haven't tried 1.7 yet but I will right now.
I'm also running Windows 7 32bit. My biggest fear is that I accidentally flash the recovery using Phone instead of PDA in Odin. I'm not positive that I did that, I've used Odin before and know not to use Phone. If that is what happened is there anyway to recover it? Or do I have a new paperweight?
Try different USB Port in your PC. I had the same problem ( struck at param.lfs ), and I try to connect in motherboard USB port and flash. Working for me
I have tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop and none have worked so far. I have also noticed that Odin is having a hard time recognizing my phone. I reinstalled the Samsung drivers and that didn't help. I was also told to try to flash a recovery.tar. I found and downloaded one but Odin just sits on recovery.bin and nothing happens.

Sorry all, i have seemed to messed up my phone. Was on abberation and running great, then i see someone was getting amazing battery with the dream kernal and decided to give it a shot, I think i downloaded the wrong one because my phone will no longer go past the samsung logo screen, just sits there, So i try and manually get into CWM and cannot get into it, O i figure i have done somehting real dumb and flashed a kernal that doesnt have CWM? Either way i try to get odin to recognize my phone and i cannot, windows keeps saying its not recognized.... I have tried 3 different cords, and 25 usb ports on three different computers to no avail...Is there some secret? not sure why windows 7 and samsung make it so impossible for this to happen. As i am ready to light all my computers on fire and throw my i777 into the street i figure i should post on here first and take a deep breath and remember im just a amateur when it comes to this stuff. I have installed and removed kies numerous times, restarted the computer multiple times, downloaded and installed unistalled the drivers from samsung directly... any help would be greatly appreciated as i dont have a phone for the moment. I have a jig and can get into download mode no problem.

First please verify that you have the SGH-I777. (Not the SGH-I727 or some other device.)
Next, try to enter recovery by holding the three buttons, vol- vol+ Pwr. If necessary, hold continuously while the logo appears, goes away and appears the second time, then release and see if it boots into recovery.
If you successfully flashed the wrong kernel, and only the kernel but not the system, then it should still have ClockworkMod Recovery, which may boot. If it boots, use recovery to flash the correct kernel for your phone.
It would be helpful to know exactly what you attempted to flash.
If this does not get you going, then post your results and we'll continue to help.

Glad you're back in business. That download looks like the correct kernel for our phone, so I don't know why it didn't boot. The kernel should be good for both ICS and JB (both 4.x). If it was me, I'd probably download from XDA.

Yeah, I see that's their official download page, linked from the XDA thread. I havn't visited that thread in a long time.

I bricked my YP-G1 player trying to flash a kit kat rom on it.
At this point I bought a jig and restored it with odin.
The current problem -
No touch functions work. All the hard buttons work fine but the touch screen does nothing along with the back and home button, etc.
At one point I had it working with the touch screen almost as if it was inverted in regard to accepting the input.
Did I do something that fried the hardware or is this a software issue. I greatly appreciate your guys help.
The last things I did to get it working:
I used a jig to get to download mode then Odin to flash one of the many roms available (including stock)
I tried custom kernels like steve's and also no luck

Hi there,
I used Heimdall 1.4.0 on windows 7. I tried all the attempts with heimdall to get the drivers with zadig.exe, etc. I was was able to detect the device but get this:
Heimdall v1.4.0
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -12
The furthest I get anywhere is doing the following:
Using Odin3 v1.85
I check Re-partiation, autoreboot, and f. reset time. Then I use the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 U.S. 8gb.pit pit file found on forum. I flash the YPG1USRestoreOdin.tar.md5 by clicking under the PDA section.
This gets me to boot with the samsung logo and little chime. Then I go all the way through and boot to the OS. At that point no touch functions work at all, including the menu button, home screen or back button.
So i was thinking, is it a kernel issue? Does the kernel tell the touch screen to work?
So then I go back to download mode by taking out battery and placing it back in with a jig
Now i flash steve's kernal (STevEs-3.0-USA.tar) successfully and still no touch functions
SO THEN:
Instead I try STeVEs-3.0-EU.tar kernel and I get touch functions that are not mapped correctly.
That is the best that I have been able to get it to function.

I don't use heimdall 1.4.0 because I find it a bit too complicated. I guess you can try following my instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51762484, since you have a Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1) and see if that lets you get the drivers installed correctly. I can't comment on if it controls touch screen controls, but why did you need to use a USB jig to go back to download mode?
Hi there,
I did exactly what you recommended. Successfully reinstalled OS however same issue, touch does nothing. I cant seem to boot into recovery so thats why have have been using the jig to go into download mode to reflash stuff. I just dont understand... when I used a different custom kernel I only had the ability to use the touch function in a weird way, it appeared as though it was inverted.... If you have any other thoughts please let me know. I thank you for your help already.

Wow that is weird. Have you tried using the other 2 kernels for our player, which are Klin's R3 and Terraailent? I find it odd that the EU kernel gave that back. Also it seems that your recovery is damage, even though that flash with heimdall should have fixed it. Try flashing one of the other kernels and then try flashing one of the latest kikkat builds.

Well depends on the variant of his device. If it's the US version, then it could be possible that good digitizer might have been inverted. Though I don't recommend it, in last resort the intl bootloaders could be used to restore completely the device. In this case it is possible that he won't have access to the recovery by the three finger method anymore.
