Hey guys. I think I might need some help with this one.
I was running MIUI 1.9.16 with the stock kernel and started having an issue last night with my phone being unable to send texts. I decided this morning to try to go back to stock and reflash MIUI. I was following the steps in the "***READ THIS!!!!!!*** Going from CM7/MIUI/OMFGB to another rom/Unbricking your device" thread. When I try to flash ED05 Odin freezes on param.lfs. I am using the wall charger that came with my phone and I'm also Odining without the battey in. Is there anyway to flash a new param.lfs? Or am I just screwed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You could try a different version of Odin..either 1.3,1.7, or 1.83..or try using eb01, or dl09, it shouldn't matter eclair, froyo or gb, whichever will work for you since you're going to flash miui again anyway. Just don't forget the pit file and check repartition if it isn't already

I downloaded Odin 1.83 and EB01 and I'm still getting the same problem. I'm using the Atlas v2.2.pit and I checked repartition in Odin.
I found a file called "Stock-i500-VZW-pit.pit" should I try that one instead of the Atlas .pit file?
Is Odin saying pass? Did you try with 1.3, or 1.7 yet?
Also what version of windows are you using?

I have tried 1.3, and 1.83. I haven't tried 1.7 yet but I will right now.
I'm also running Windows 7 32bit. My biggest fear is that I accidentally flash the recovery using Phone instead of PDA in Odin. I'm not positive that I did that, I've used Odin before and know not to use Phone. If that is what happened is there anyway to recover it? Or do I have a new paperweight?
Try different USB Port in your PC. I had the same problem ( struck at param.lfs ), and I try to connect in motherboard USB port and flash. Working for me
I have tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop and none have worked so far. I have also noticed that Odin is having a hard time recognizing my phone. I reinstalled the Samsung drivers and that didn't help. I was also told to try to flash a recovery.tar. I found and downloaded one but Odin just sits on recovery.bin and nothing happens.
Use the program Heimdall.

When I try to run the heimdall-frontend.exe it reads: "The procedure entry point _invalid_parameter_noinfo_noreturn could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR100.dll."
I ran Zadig and installed the driver for my phone. I also installed Microsoft Visual 2010 C++ Redistributable which I read was needed in another post. Is there a way to get around this error?

Dears I upgrdede to 2.2 and seems to work but most of the phone functions didn't work so I decide to down grade to original 2.1 again.
I went to download mode started odin and put the files and started but nothing happend so I unpluged the mobile and ended with the phone not working so I cant run 2.2 or 2.1 tryed to go back to 2.2 but still it starts on the odin and then stops.
can any one help?
What do you mean nothing happened? And this is the wrong section btw.
odin started to use the files and then stopped saying dont turn target off, and took so long as if it hanged
What version of ODIN are you using?
odin 3.1 .........
And which rom are you using? Make sure its the JDF one and not the JI6.
Have you ever used odin before? If not make sure you have the samsung drivers installed. If using vista or windows 7 open odin by right clicking and run as administrator. Then once its open put phone in download mode and connect it to the computer. Try again.
I think you mean Odin3 1.0
You need to upgrade to Odin 1.7 first of all, it can be found in this section in the Bible. Then like he said, grab JFD and the 512 pit file.
can you provide the links please to get the 4 fils PIT,PDA,Phone,CSC
I will be gratefull
You only need the Pit and PDA
Odin 1.7

JFD firmware (put this as the PDA, it should be .TAR)

512 PIT:

Make sure your phone is in download mode with the big yellow sign.
I will try it and let you know

What froyo rom did you flash? Did you flash it through recovery or with odin?
also as someone else stated, you should move this to q&a. While some will help you none the less, a few of people on here like the taste of freshly seared meat from time to time

Ah good to know because I flashed a kernel first lol..
I ended up with a bigger problem
I used odin to flas and added these files
s1_odin_20100512 pit
and T959UVJE8 PDA , Phone files and selected repartetion and started , it had 2.2 on it and was not working fine.
was installed and the restarted and there you go not working
So, I tried to load Gingerbread and now all I hear now is Linda's annoying voice before it goes to a Kernel Panic.
I have tried using ODIN and Heimdall with no success.
Heimdall just returns a "fail" after about 4 seconds.
Odin3 1.7 returns a "SetupConnection..." and never proceeds.
Some notes to add as I feel these will answer most initial questions.
I am in Download mode (android character digging)
I made sure I had the drivers that came with Heimdall installed when tryign heimdall, and when using ODIN I had the Samsung Galaxy S drivers installed.
I have tried this on multiple computers with the same results.
First w/ a Windows 7 64-bit and the second was a Windows XP 32-bit
Any ideas why it is hanging up?
Any ideas what to try next?
All input is greatly appreciated and I just want to thank anyone who responds in advance for their advice.

for odin:
Reinstall the SAMSUNG DRIVERS (it works sometimes)
Use a DIFFERENT version of the ODIN program, this works for most people.
And via Ubuntu you don't need specifics drivers i think. Let me know.

Why would you hear Linda?
You never got to flash Gingerbread I'm guessing.
Go into download mode and try connecting to Odin. Pull the plug, then battery. Pop it back in and you should see a phone!pc icon. Plug in the USB and maybe Odin will recognize it.
This has worked for me before when Odin wouldn't recognize my device.
1. how do you flash gb or which rom did you flash? the cm7 or beta from whitehawk?
2. what kernel did you flash for cm7?

So, I did install Gingerbread, and I must have messed something up. I was upgrading from Eugene's Unofficial Froyo release. I downloaded the beta from whitehawk, put it on my sdcard, went into recover mode and attempted to install after backing up. After the rainbow screen I got a Kernel Panic screen, waited about 20 minutes just to see what would happen, naturally nothing. I restarted the phone. I get the Vibrant logo, then rainbows, annoying Linda's voice then the Kernel Panic Upload Mode. My assumption is the mistake I made was not having the right kernel, but now its a matter of trying to recover the phone.
Ok, I got it working, really I am not sure how. I was reading on another Galaxy S they use the home button get into download mode. Out of desperation I tried it, while the download mode didn't look any different it responded to ODIN and worked. It could have just been coincidence but whatever it worked. Thanks for all the support and I got Gingerbread in now.

Long story short, my windows PC died recently, leaving me without Odin. So, I'm forced to use Heimdall to flash from CM7 back to stock JFD. The only problem is that each guide for Heimdall seems to suggest a different method (What files to use, whether or not to check repartition, etc), and none of them are directly related to the Vibrant (More specifically, flashing from CM7 back to JFD). So, does anyone have experience using Heimdall to get back to JFD?

Bump.

I always use odin3 v1.00, heimdall never worked for me and seems more complicated than odin.
Don't check repartition... it'll reformat your internal sd and you'll lose all your personal data (saved files and such).
Just use Odin like you normally would to go back to stock from any rom. Use the .pit file and .tar of JFD and no repartition.

I'm the developer of Heimdall and I just did this exact procedure a couple of days ago as I finally got around to checking out the status CM7. As such Heimdall most certainly works for flashing to CM7 and then back to stock.
When returning back to stock make sure you chose to repartition (i.e. Select a PIT file), then provide all the files that Heimdall Frontend has slots for. The reason you need to repartition is because CM7 does not use the RFS partition format used by stock ROMs. You'll remember that when you installed CM7 you had to do some partition related stuff in recovery mode, what you were doing is repartitioning 3 partitions on the device. Anyway you need to undo that, selecting repartition in Heimdall will do this.
Thanks for the response, and I'll be attempting to flash back later today. Also, do I need to flash bootloaders as well? I just cringe whenever I have to mess with bootloaders...

No need to mess with bootloader.
Wow, it feels weird to ask so many questions, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Just a question to anyone who knows this phone better than me, would the following files, from the JFD tar file and the pit file, suffice for the Heimdall flash:
cache.rfs, dbdata.rfs, factoryfs.rfs, modem.bin, param.lfs, s1_odin_20100512.pit, and zimage.
Basically, that fills up all the spots in Heimdall's GUI, except Primary Bootloader, Secondary Bootloader and Recovery. That seem about right?
Yet another problem I need help solving.... For some reason, after plugging my phone into my computer in download mode, the "Start" button in Heimdall never lights up. I can see the phone using "lsusb", but Heimdall never recognizes it. Any ideas?
Could it be that the device ID (Which is now 18d1:4e22 when fully booted, 04e8:6601 in Download Mode) isn't recognized by Heimdall, or is it something wrong with the Heimdall installation (Or just my computer, since a reinstallation of Heimdall did nothing)?
No the greyed out start button is unrelated to whether or not your device is detected. When you repartition you must include the primary and secondary bootloaders.

Oh wow... didn't know that.
I Had CM7 on my vibrant but cant take the intability and lack of Gps. I have searched the forums and tried everything i could. I can get into download mode, but odin always gets stuck at cache.rfs. What do I do? i really dont want to take this to tmobile.
If you have the JFD pit and pda did you check the partition box? Going from CM7 to JFD you need to partition. Just make sure its the JFD odin you got.

It still hangs on cache.rfs. Im sure its the JFD for Odin. i downloaded them in one rar archive.

At this point i would go back to CM7 if i could. The phone originally had the Phone-!-computer. its not doing that now.

Taken from my guide:
IF ODIN HANGS ON YOU:
- Are you using my files (all 3 of them?)
- Did you check the MD5 using Hashtab
- Are you using the cable that came with your phone?
- Have you tried other USB ports on you PC?
- Have you removed all other USB devices and rebooted (ie webcam)
Please check the MD5 of the pit/tar using Hashtab.

I have tried v1.0 and v1.85 of Odin to fix my boot loop. Both said they were successful but in fact it just changed the boot loop's process. Now all that loops is black screen then the Vibrant screen (which I had never seen before). I also tried one click un-brick but the program will not stay open.
I can not enter recovery mode but can still enter DL mode.
This is all a result of trying to install the cyanogenmod using their wiki site (can't post links yet). I had completed installing Clockworkmod recovery as directed by the wiki site. It started when rebooting after installing Cmenard's Overstock Kernel.
Anyone who experienced this and was successful in fixing please do help.
Which file did you used when you used odin?
I used 2. The T959UVJFD.TAR and the 512.rar. I used winzip to extract them for Odin.
I did pretty much exactly what the link says. I tried checking repartition on the 4th try or so as well, sorry I can't post links yet....

Ummm usually reverting back to stock jfd through odin always works..
Many of us have been in bootloops before this one is different simply because CM7 is typically an easy flash. You may want to get different files they may not have downloaded to your computer correctly and then try to flash them using Odin. That's the only thing I can assume is the issue at this point.

Not really sure what other files to use. Every search I do for restoring to factory settings finds the ones I used. I will try them with odin 1.3 until I find new files.
Wondering if my samsung driver isn't installed properly. Will Odin even read it if it's not?
OK so, I screwed up. I have a sgs4g, DOH. Gona make a thread in the sgs4g section but help is still appreciated if anyone has some.
Exact same issue.
I had the same issue. Actually got it to boot and everything but everything past the Modem step was scrubbed everytime in Odin because the wrong partition was applied. You get this issue if you use the PIT from a Galaxy Vibrant on a Galaxy S 4G.
I was under the impression that the phone I was modding was a Vibrant. Took me a few hours but I eventually got to the bottom of it after reading every Vibrant thread from beginning to end. Here is a link to the post that saved my night.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12806682&postcount=15
The proper PIT file for the Galaxy S 4G. So everyone with this issue just continue as normal and install a current ROM with this PIT.
On a side note.... all these damn Galaxy phones are confusing. No wonder I never wanted one. I am just fine with Motorola devices... The Optimus series is at least a bit better with the letter branding for each carrier. Galaxy series are all just galaxy...
