T959 with the nightly 44 installed and rather than display my carrier name - CincinnatiBell, my phone shows a 6 digit number. Under Wireless & Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Operators it displays AT&T and TMobile, and only a number (310420) for my carrier. I was out of my service area this past weekend, and CinBell phones always display 'CinBellUSA' when roaming - mine showed 'T-Mobile'.
Any ideas?
John
I'm bumping an old thread, this is beyond annoying. My phone does the same thing, except it never shows anything but the carrier number 310420. What is going on and how do I fix it?
Another bump. I'm on CM7.1 build 102

I have a problem with roaming.
I am on MTS who has joined with Rogers network.
On stock ROM: 2-6-35-7-i9100xwkf3-cl276555 rootdell101 #2
I go to the US
Phone works on roaming
Can receive SMS
Cannot send SMS - Send fails
I have since rooted and installed Alienware 2-6-35-11 ninphetamine 2.1.3 xxkh3
I go to the US
Phone has 4/5 bars and can't get on network to roam
can't send/receive SMS
when dialing get the Mobile network unavailable message
My wife's samsung galaxy S i897 works fine -
Swapping SIMs with her yields the same failures on my S2 with her SIM.
In both cases, crossing the border home fixes the problem and life is grand.
I have tried:
1.enabling data roaming
2.rebooting
3.battery pull
4.swapping sims
Is anyone else having similar roaming issues - is there a ROM that actually works while roaming from Canada while in the US?
I have seen problems on my old Galaxy S and my wife's similar to this as when trying different ROMS, but have never gone across the border with any of these ROMS installed.
What I've seen with different ROMS is:
1. sometimes cannot get phone to get on network unless I setup the APN settings first
2. sometimes cannot get phone or data to work without enabling roaming mode. The phone actually says it's roaming even when it's on the home network
Is there anything I'm missing in the forums on this issue?
Thanks for the help
hmm, maybe you've tried, but have you checked if the APN list is accurate ?
i believe there is an app to set the APN on the market ( can't remember the name though, never had the need for it.)
or try to google if you can find the APN setting of your network provider.
Seem like an APN problem to me as you explain it.
on the phone, you can access that with :
Settings >> Mobile networks >> Access Point Names and then the details of each APN can be checked/edited.
Hi guy's, have a UK SGS2. It's rooted and running Criskelo ICS rom. I've recently been in Brazil for 6 months, my phone worked fine over there. I've come back to the UK and got a standard Vodafone PAYG sim card. When I try and use it the phone says "not registered on network"
The sim card itself is fine as it works in my old mans SGS2.
I have wiped the phone and installed the standard software and it's still the same.
Anyone got any ideas what could be up?
The phone could be network locked (sim lock)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
That's what the guy on Vodafone web chat suggested.
How and why would it get network blocked?
The phone was originally on the 3 network. I bought it 2nd hand about 1.5 years ago and it's been fine on T-mobile ever since.
If it is sim locked, is there a way to unlock it?
You can unlock with:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zZ3Myc2ltdW5sb2NrY29kZSJd
It's free on google play.
I don't think it's sim locked, I can put any chip in it. It doesn't ask me for an unlock code.
I have run the sim unlock tool. The code it came up with is 00000000
When you go into the network settings, it shows all the service providers. every provider I click on says "can't register on the network"
I'm wondering if i've had some sort of network update in Brazil that's screwed it up?

I'm sure its something to do with being abroad as i've read about someone that had the same issue when they went from China to Denmark.
If I go to settings - phone it says...
Network - Unknown
Signal Strength - 103 dBm 5 asu
Mobile Network Type - HSDPA:9
Service State - Out of Service
Roaming - Not Roaming
Mobile Network State - Disconnected
My Phone Number - Unknown
IMEI - the correct number, I checked
The fault isn't with the sim card itself, I can use it in other phones and I can save a contact to it in this phone.
I'm wondering if some of those network settings I had from the Brazilian phone company's have messed something up.
Heya, basically I'm running FreeXperia's CM9 on my Xperia U, and it doesn't recognise/support my network (carrier) which is Virgin Mobile UK, an MVNO.
I believe this is a general issue with Cyanogenmod, my phone works but it says no service instead of the network name, it's seriously annoying. Cyanogenmod has the Virgin Mobile apns in it's apns-conf.xml, but it won't use these as it can't see that that is the network I am connected to.
Basically my phone should display:
Virgin = when using T-Mobile UK
virgin = when using Orange UK.
Instead it just says no service the whole time, surely this is a fairly easy fix, anyone got any advice?
I'd like to add support rather than just use an app to change the text.
Thanks.
MCC - 234, MNC - 31 and MCC - 234, MNC - 32, if that helps.
Any ideas?
When I'm using the Orange signal it says Orange, however on T-Mobiles signal it says no service. Any ideas?
I've tried:
spn-conf.xml
and
optable.db
With no luck.
I picked up an unlocked TMo One in New York last week. I used it there with my Norwegian SIM with no problems.
Back home, I get "No Service" using the exact same SIM-card. Using the *#*#INFO#*#*-menu, I can see the SIM-card is recognised because it displays my carrier in the "Current Network" field. I am suspecting the TMo-infused Sense OS to reject my card, since to my understanding the phone is compatible with EU networks. Will i be fine if i flash another ROM, like the stock GPe, and get rid of the TMo-stuff altogheter, or is there another rock in the road here?
I used my Tmobile HTC One with the stock ROM in Norway using a Telenor SIM and in Greece using a Vodafone SIM.
I would make sure you have the proper APN info (I can't remember the appropriate one for the Norwegian carriers). I believe it should work without issues (mine did). If it worked with that SIM card already, it's not locked and it's not rejecting it.
Also, I found that when I returned home to the US, I had to choose Settings -> Mobile Data -> Network Operators and choose Select Automatically (even though it was already chosen). Maybe you need to do that too.
Currently I am running Android Revolution and that also works fine with my Norwegian and TMOUS SIM cards.
Good luck!
Thanks! I've at least made some progress. I tried setting Network Selection to automatic, and got reception, however only for about half a minute. I then tried adding my provider's APN info. This has given me permanent data connection, but still no GSM reception for texts and phone calls. I do get 2g data when in low coverage areas. I am finding this weird. Can anyone shed some light?
Okay. Just wanted to post my latest findings - if others are experiencing the same issue. I've flashed the latest Google Edition RUU, to see if the TMo ROM was causing it. But i still don't get GSM coverage. Data still connected on both 2G and 3G (haven't been within 4G coverage yet..)
When flashing I also updated firmware to latest.
Phone info says Current network: "NetCom" (my home network) GSM service: "Emergency Calls only" (I tested this, and I am able to place the call to emergency services) and GPRS service: "Connected" (I am typing this on my data connection via WiFi-tethering, actually)
The status menu shows this: Service state "Out of service" and My phone number "Unknown".
If anyone can come up with a theory, I am all ears..

Have you tried taking the phone to your provider? Maybe you need an update which or setting which they can provide.
I find it strange that it wouldn't recognize your phone number, usually that's a sign of some type of incompatibility with the phone and the network.

I have contacted my provider to see if there's anything they can do. But they're playing a little hard to get.. I was afraid there would be an issue with compatibility at first, by since my data connection is all right, I'm not so sure. Also erdelyt above here says he has used the TMo phone in Norway without trouble. He has another provider, however. They run their own network, so I will be trying with one of their SIM cards next, if my provider NetCom aren't of any help. Thanks for your help so far. I'll be posting my findings further!
So, I got to try a Telenor SIM card the other day, and the issue is still there. Although, with that card the phone number was read and displayed in the phone info menu. The owner of the card suggested there was an unlock issue - but I did make calls with my phone and SIM card in the US, so I don't see how that could be.
So that's a small step further, but now I just have to wait to see what my carrier says..
I changed the title for this thread after my findings.. I got a new SIM-card for my carrier, and i got coverage to make one phone call, but after i hung up, it was gone. I am really in the dark here.. It can of course be a hardware fault, but that's a bit strange for an entirely new product..
I just purchased the Mate 10 PRO (US version). I previously owned LGv20 also on AT&T network and simply moved the SIM to the new phone. At first there was no data at all so I called AT&T and gave them the device IMEI. Still didn't work. Called AT&T again and they had to "send a 4G signal" from the tower to my phone. Oddly, next to the signal bars it shows 4G so I was excited. However, when I went into the settings to "enable 4G" it will automatically turn to the "off" position. It seems like my phone is stuck on 3G (WDCDMA). When I am in settings and choose the "preferred network" to "LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto" it will automatically change to "WCDMA/GSM Auto". Under the "advanced" setting the "carrier aggregation" and "LTE high-speed mode" is on. APN settings are correct. Under "status", it shows network as "AT&T" and mobile network type as "4G", service state "in service".
Phone is on build number BLA-A09 8.0.0..119 (C567).
I did a speed test and my download rate on data is 2-3mb/sec.
Has anyone else had problems connecting to 4G on AT&T ? Any ideas how to fix this?
Brand new out of the box, I would promptly return and buy a new one.
