[Q] Lost Root after flashing Bamf-Sense3-rc3 - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After flashing the 2nd to latest Bamf RC I seem to have lost root priveliges. Anything that requires root will not work (screenshots, root checker fails the check, Titanium backup).
When I flashed, I wiped data and cache 3 seperate times, as well as dalvik and battery. I.flashed the ROM, followed by the 6-bar signal mod; all through Recovery, not RomManager. I used Titanium after flashing only for user apps/data.
I tried the Titanium superuser restore method (Problems > Upgrade Superuser) which also fails. I tried manually updating Superuser through market; fails. I tried downloading the latest SU and flashing through Recovery; fails, says its bad and I've tried downloading a couple times from different threads/links.
I've been running MR2 radio since it came out. When I restart into Bootlogger, this is what I get:
Mecha XD Eng S-Off
Hboot - 1.04.2000 (PG05100000)
Radio - 1.39.00.0528w
eMMC-boot - Feb 23, 2011, 20:36:02
Any idea what I can do or do I need to post more info? I lack computer access for who knows how long, so if I can fix it from my mini-computer here I'd love ya'll long time!
Problem Solved: It was just a matter of a bad flash. After downloading a fresh copy of the ROM, I wiped everything and reflashed. Root was restored without further issues.

Try installing and running busybox from the market. The few times I lost root this did the trick.

Just tried. Downloaded, granted SU, and it failed to install. Said it couldn't gain root (go figure).
Thanks, though!
Next!?

Well the rom is already prerooted so you could just install it over the current rom without wiping. If rom manager won't wow you to do it, boot straight into recovery.

Delete /system/app/Superuser.apk and /system/xbin/su
Then manually flash the superuser zip from recovery.
You said flashing Superuser failed and said it was bad? Sounds like the DL is corrupt then. DL 2.3.6.3efgh again and flash that.

Can't delete anything in system folder without root access. Or at least ES File Manager won't allow it.

Since I was reflashing I went ahead and downloaded the RC4. I seem to be the only one with the RC3 issue so I figured it was on my end. Wiped, flashed, and all good now. Thanks for the tips guys. OP updated.

Rooted thunder bolt problems help please

Ok, so the info right now
Very first original pg05img.zip is loaded.
I got no super user and no cw.
Had Das bamf 1.6.3 and radio from OP
Switched to Das bamf 2.0-5 and ginger radio
Switched back to a back up of 1.6.3 and radio because of possible brick via hboot old radio first then into cw to restore back up.
Everything flashed good no hiccups except one problem, nothing will download. Too clarify that, all apps function properly, updates act normal, apps download from market normal, data signal strong, full 3g, no 4g in my area, browser runs fast, sync runs, no problems except that when I try to download a theme from xda download fails. Tried mirrors, fail. Tried my mp3 download app, download fail, Rom download from Rom manager, fail!
I assumed radio, reloaded radio in hboot, still fail.
While shuffling pg05img.zip around my SD card I placed the original zip for rooting process for manual root when the tbolt first got rooted. Thinking I was trying a radio.... Oops.
So now I'm running. Just fine. Except still no way to download threw phone. And as an added bonus I can not get into CW to flash a backup. ROM manager says I'm not rooted and have no super user. Hboot screen says s-off and when I go to recovery option there I get the triangle ! Sign. Yet Rom manger says there is an update for my CW available, but guess what happens when I try to download that....
Please give me ideas, if I left info out, I'm sorry just ask me.
Thanks a mill

If you followed the root process correctly and have SU permissions with the SU app then you are ok with that.
Next make sure you can access root through apps like rom manager and Tit backup.
Now if those run fine in stock then make a backup of that through rom manager or recovery.
Download all the roms and radios associated with the appropriate roms. Next flash the PG05IMG with bootloader and make sure the TB boots to stock, if you have no connection there, that is ok because it is supposed to work with specified ROM.
Now make sure you connect to a PC and mount the SD and remove PG05IMG. Put the rom on the / of the SD.
Run rom manager and install the rom from SD. Wipe all data, cache, and dalvik cahce. Once the rom has successfully installed, you should have connection and everything ok.
It's best to follow these steps from a working backup that way you can always revert and redo.
It's best to have a stock rom back up with all of your settings incase you need it for any purpose.
If you have any questions please contact me or a dev.
Assuming you still have root with s-off I would flash this from jcase's thread in HBOOT:
Custom upgrade PG05IMG_MR1_upgrade.zip (md5sum : 7960c7977c25b2c8759605be264843ea)
http://www.multiupload.com/NEANZBS5S4
That should fix your radio and whatever else is broke. Then just flash whatever ROM you like over it.

Have you gone to the market and downloaded "super user" app?
Try that and go to rom manager and attempt to flash the recovery again
And try downloading astro file manager - in settings it should have an option to download anything through browser...
See that's the prob, no Su app or permissions. I followed the original manual process to the tee. That was months ago. Iv been rooted. Up until today there have been zero problems. Yeah, download that zip, reboot into recovery and install zip from sd. Reboot and you are done
The best and easiest way is to root with oneclicksuperroot on xda. Type this in google.

Sometimes you have to run root.zip again. Clear Dalvik, cache, and factory before root.zip, then clear all again and reboot. Try that.

Just tried you advice. Still unrooted. Wiped the two different caches, factory reseted, applied the root twice. Nothing. I miss Titanium Backup.
I wonder if it's because im official stock ROM vs a custom ROM.

Eval thanks for all your hard working. Do you think is possible to update your OP, so it is clear for "noobs" that the second part of your code need to be input in adb
I found a lot of people trying to run the second code in the fastboot mode and then posting oh IT DID NOT work and actually is EASY and SAFE to root

Superuser/Root Question

Good Afternoon all,
I am S-OFF HBoot 1.40, I have not had an issues until recently. I tried installing SetCpu and superuser denied permission, even tho I have it set to allow. I then tried updating superuser binary and when it gets to Gaining root access.. "fail!"
I am not sure what the issue could be as, i am able to flash ROMs, Kernals, etc.
Would it be wise of me to S-On it and then S-Off Again ?
The issue with superuser permissions does occur randomly with certain applications, so i am not exactly aware of what is going on. I am hoping someone can give me a hand.
Thank you in advance,
Miamiboi
I have had this issue before and it turns out that I flashed the wrong type of superuser for my phone. It was meant for donut and not Ics. It could be that you flashed the wrong superuser zip. Here's the file http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip. Let me know if that helps you. I flashed this in recovery and it worked like a charm.

Look for SuperSU in the playstore, much better than what you're using, IMHO.
PS: make sure to uninstall the old superuser app.

But only AFTER you install SuperSU first (Superuser has to give SuperSU root access to install first). I like SuperSU better as well.

[Q] No app root access after HTC unlock.

So I did the HTC unlock after receiving my Asurion claim (1.19 Hboot) a couple months ago. I haven't messed around with it much because I've been busy irl. I installed TWRP, Fresh, and just recently the "deSensed ICS ~ Dialer, Tumblers & Apps! -Updated Mean4.4 & Goodies2.11!" theme. Now I've been thinking I'd really like to just flash CM10 now that it's starting to mature so I installed TB and it wasn't able to gain root access (tried a couple different SU apps). I checked several other apps and none were able to gain root (ES file explorer, Quick Boot, Root Explorer, etc). I originally thought that the issue was the fact I flashed Fresh over the stock rom after just wiping Cache but I just wiped everything (Cache, Dalvik, System, Factory Reset, in that order), flashed a newly downloaded Fresh rom, and downloaded TB and got the same "Root Access: Failed" error. I'm at a loss. I'm running Fresh, I have TWRP installed, but I have no root access. Any help would be appreciated.

try root checker basic from the playstore to confirm you are rooted but it doesn't make sense the you can have twrp and flash fresh without root
Sounds like your Su binaries may have got messed up. Try using only one Su and see if that works. You may need to flag Su in twrp

I had the SU that comes in Fresh installed and it wasn't working so last night I installed a different one from the market, that didn't work either, uninstalled. I tried updating binaries on one (couldn't find the option to do it on the other) and that worked fine but it failed to gain root.
Just now I fixed Permissions via TWRP, deleted the SU that comes with Fresh via TWRP, uninstalled and reinstalled the other SU with the same results.
Try going into su and check grant permissions automatically and make sure fastboot is unchecked.....see if that helps

I tried re-locking and doing the HTC unlock again. I restored my Fresh nandroid and I have the same results. I'll try re-locking and unlocking again when I get a chance and this time I'll see if SU works before restoring.

Can I have a link to a flashable one, the one from market isn't cutting it?
Hit it twice and make it count.
Unlocked does not give you root. It enables you to install a Rom with root access or install superuser. If you are unlocked and have installed a custom Rom with root support, you should already have superuser in the app drawer. Update whatever superuser app you have to the newest, and reboot.

[Q] Galaxy tab 10.1 complete restore after custom roms

Hi
I have a galaxy tab 10.1 GT-P7500. I have been messing around a lot with custom ROMs. Now I want to do a proper restore to official ICS. I have the Odin flashable package. When I restore it just using this, my tablet does not want to root again on this stock firmware. I looses root as soon as I flash the root package.
What I want to do is do a complete restore of the tablet. I don't really know much about the bootloaders and so on.
Should I get a PIT file and tick re-partition as well as update phone bootloader?
I have restored an old Nandroid backup and did a factory restore on the tablet but there is something wrong with it. Every now and then the tablet just do a random reboot, but not a complete reboot. The screen goes blank and then back on again. Signal gets lost and everything that I was busy with are gone. I use the Wi-Fi hotspot all the time and every time that this happens I have to turn it back on again.
Anyone who can tell me how to do a proper restore of everything on the tablet?
Boot into cwm or twrp recovery, do a full wipe, not including internal storage, then flash stock ICS again.

Because your important files are there. Unless you don't care about those files or you've backed up in your computer, then you can wipe it. I've seen people wiping their internal memory blindly and then posting "Help, my photos/videos are gone!! Is there any way to recover it???" Which is why I said not to wipe your internal memory.

I have flashed stock ICS now, but when I try to load the update file which I always used to root it, the stock recovery give an error saying unknown path for sdcard(photo included).

First, check to see if the su binary is in /system/xbin or not. Download terminal emulator, then type su and see if it works. If it says su not found, it means the su binary is not installed. If so, try flashing the SuperSU zip (https://db.tt/18JKy062) and see if it works.
Edit: OK never mind, I see you solved it.
