Yeah, download that zip, reboot into recovery and install zip from sd. Reboot and you are done

The best and easiest way is to root with oneclicksuperroot on xda. Type this in google.

Superoneclick hasnt worked on the atrix since 1.26... They closed that loophole a longgggg time ago
CWM + root.zip =

If you don't have/want CWM, this also works:

That method hasn't worked for me. I applied the zip via CWM and it does says rooting complete. My BL is unlocked and CWM was flashed properly. Any ideas on what I should do?

Sometimes you have to run root.zip again. Clear Dalvik, cache, and factory before root.zip, then clear all again and reboot. Try that.

Just tried you advice. Still unrooted. Wiped the two different caches, factory reseted, applied the root twice. Nothing. I miss Titanium Backup.
I wonder if it's because im official stock ROM vs a custom ROM.

This method worked fine for me. Thanks.

Eval thanks for all your hard working. Do you think is possible to update your OP, so it is clear for "noobs" that the second part of your code need to be input in adb
I found a lot of people trying to run the second code in the fastboot mode and then posting oh IT DID NOT work and actually is EASY and SAFE to root

[Q] If I reset the phone to factory settings, do I have to perform rooting again?

Hi,
I'd like to reset my rooted Optimus to factory settings.
If I reset, do I loose superuser and have to perform rooting again or will my phone still be rooted but loose superuser in app? In this case, how can I install superuser again?
What if I update its Froyo 2.2.1 to 2.2.2?
Thanks.
Yes you loose your root. And you will have to root it again with the same procedures u rooted before.

No he doesn't. If He rooted his phone, but He didn't install a custom recovery and if He does an hard reset with that 3-keys combo you won't lose root, because Superuser.apk was installed in /system/app.

Thats great I dont know about it
Do not use factory reset if you have Clockwork Mod recovery. Not recommended.
Actually, if you have a recovery installed, reset your phone via recovery by wiping data, system, cache etc.

[CWM] Bootstrap Recovery

We've tested and can confirm this bootstrap recovery is working. Thank you to bane449 for testing. The recovery is a straight APK pull from the Droid X2. Worked thanks to the similarities between devices.

CWM allows users to easily install unsigned update packages. This will open up the Photon to pseudo-ROMs, all sorts of modifications, and more.
Forgive my ignorance but what is a "pseudo-Rom"?

Psuedo meaning "not really" a ROM. A locked bootloader will prevent true custom ROMs, but P-ROMs will be possible.
P-ROMs are based off of stock files and modifications. They don't replace the kernel or modem.
Yup i installed this and rebooted into recovery mode. It worked just fine for me. What happens if Sprint releases an OTA update? Can i recover root access or downgrade with this? Sounds like I can't because I can't modify the kernel.

Make sure your device is plugged into the wall charger when you do Reboot Recovery. That's the only way it'll work since it's a bootstrap recovery.

Can you explain why this is? I'm a little confused as to what makes a "bootstrap recovery" different from a regularly flashed "recovery.img".

Caveats:
This is not a *real* recovery. The way this recovery works is by hijacking portions of your boot process during system initialization and starting into recovery instead. So, if you hose your system *COMPLETELY* you will need to SBF. Specifically, if your logwrapper, logwrapper.bin, or hijack binary are missing from /system/bin, you will be screwed.
This is from koush himself concerning droid x/2 bootstrap. I would seriously wait til an sbf surfaces before flashing any of these "psuedo-ROMS" or even just deleting any system apk's. Just my opinion.

Is this "ClockworkMod" recovery, or something else? If it's CWM, what version?
So what specifically did this do to my phone? What files were modified to allow this to run at bootup? Anybody have any info on this (just in case I want to return my phone to stock.)

This is CWM bootstrap. Original one was on the Droid X, created by Koushik Dutta. Then it was ported to the Defy. Then to the Atrix. Next, the Droid X2. Now, the Photon 4G.
V2.5.1.8
Sbf is gonna be your friend when it comes to unrooting and restoring. It will pop up soon.

Are you just rooted? Or did you unlock the bootloader? If you only rooted, and are stock, just go menu, settings, privacy, factory reset. You will lose root and be back to normal.

I also have run into this problem. I one click rooted, unlocked bootloader, did the CWM per the QBKing video - went to flash CM7 and got the yellow triangle. Everything I have read states that you have to do a different type of root, which includes the Torpedo Dockless root. I have been at work all day and have not had a chance to try it out - I will be in a hour - I will update accordingly.
As for the root on stock and just doing a factory reset to remove root is untrue. I know from experience. I was rooted, on stock, and did a factory reset several times and still was rooted.

Why should it matter which way root access was achieved? Maybe this is the source of some of my problems. I guess I'll try the torpedo method now. Was using the one-click method.

sjamie,
I just unrooted my phone, and re-rooted using the method in QBKings video. I now have CM7 installed with no problems at all. His rooting method was easy. The hardest part is waiting for the download from the Pudding thread. Hope this helps.
I believe it isn't the way you rooted causing the missing recovery. But a file that automatically reverts to stock recovery in reboot. Get root explorer and delete the file and your golden. I don't remember the path but it is in one of the root threads!

Unless otherwise stated its always safest to wipe data, cache, and dalvik.
You can ask joker about that, he's really quick to reply. If I had to guess though, id say both roms are using the same build.prop file, or you may have mistakenly reflashed skinny. Glad I could help.

[How to]Root your .629

My friend found the way to root OTA .629!
Make sure your phone working on .629,
1.Flash repacked .608 sbf
http://db.tt/xj6oos8G
(Never Try Full .608 SBF !!!)
2 .Download tool PetesMotorolaRootTools or SuperOneClick extract all and run.(Just like rooting .608)
Note : - FIRST - Please Enable USB Debugging , Then connect cable for usb type Charge only
3.Install app otarootkeeper(Can be found in Play Store,it's free),backup su, unroot.
4.Reboot to Motorola Recovery, Wipe, apply .629 OTA update.zip,reboot.
5.install otarootkeeper app again,restore su
Check your device, it should rooted
ATTENTION: Reapply .629 update is very important, when you flashed our repacked .608 sbf, your device is working on a unstable hybrid rom

UPDATE: For all with some sort of problems (!), blindly follow guide from link, for RESTORING device... apply 608, apply repacked 629, (IMPORTANT) full wipe in recovery, root, unroot, flash update, re-root. Works like a charm, all radios are full to go!

Now, rooted, I'm finally able to delete all those stupid Verizon bloatware (I'm not on Verizon, even more, I CAN'T use Verizon, I'm not in U.S.!) - got around 10-15% on speed (some things apparently are in startup and slowing the phone down).
Other thing, before this update, I had some minor and occasional problems with touch - like ghosts or something, after unlocking touch started to do weird stuff, opening apps by it-self, moving icons across the screen - no more, it works great (for now). This might be because of fresh and full install and wipe (yes, it's a hassle to do it, to install all apps again, set them up... but, it's kinda good solution...).
Enjoy yourself
