Hey guys and gals, I was thinking about using the 3DRoot-5 temporary root script , so I can restore all my apps from my old SD card with Titanium Backup. Can anyone please share their experiences in detail?
Thanks.

In the Developement section there are multiple guides to getting Titanium Backup to work. I'd check them out and see what you think will work best for you. Probably shouldn't have started a whole new thread for this, but good luck getting it working.
Thanks.
I started a thread for my question, due to being banned for a day, posting a non thread related question/comment.... So i figuered a question here would be safe.

Haha....nothing's safe around here LOL....and I wasn't trying to be a d*ck either. Just saying everyone seems to have a different experience with different methods. You just need to find one you're comfortable trying and give it a go. Plenty of info is available, read, and make sure you understand what you're doing before you do it.
Yeah, I feel you.
I did find a script in that area with the busybox, SU, etc all in one. Thanks for the directional opinion
Here ya go!
I wrote this up to help noobs Follow it step by step and you should be able to use TB--it worked for me!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154286
But also, if this is just for putting apps from your old SD card on your phone...can't you just throw on your old card and transfer apps to your internal memory? Or copy the apps onto your computer and then into your current SD card?
Good luck
Dude, if I could xfr my apps to my pc I would be straight!! And, then load them back to my 3D?? That would be sweet.
Edit..wrong quote..lol

Hi all, oddly, I can't seem to find a clear answer to this from searching and Google. Does the SII have a separate recovery partition? I see chainfire has created a customised CWM to be deployed with his kernel, but I was puzzled by this as coming from a HTC world, I was wondering how CWM backups up the ROM partitions (or more importantly restores them) if they are in use.
TIA

no one?
I would also like to know how this works. Coming from 3 previous HTC phones and buying a SGS2 tomorrow, I wouldn't mind finding out how to root, nandroid and flash correctly.
I know all about Odin already.
Is this the only way?

Then why not read the guides in the development section? step by step guides.
There is also a search function in these forums.
Not being rude, but you are asking to be spoonfed when there are good, well written proven guides to all your questions.

I take it this was a reply to MrBadgerMilk's question? I've looked at the FAQ in the dev section and used search and can't see the answer to the question of whether the SII has a separate recovery partition. Hopefully the people that know (and some will) could just post a yes or no.
Right... http://bit.ly/SGS2answer
Now that's over, no, the SGS2 doesn't have a separate recovery partition. The zImage contains the recovery binary, and another init script is run, when recovery is to be entered, from the standard zImage.
Now that was the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much.
EDIT: Is the video some Samsung secret initiation ritual thing?

Sorry for acting like a total noob. I did a search, but because of the crappy network that orange is, I couldn't ever stay connected long enough to actually get to the results of the search. Now I finally have my sgs 2 on 3 and it's like a breath if fresh air. Sorry again.I can now search without sounding like a noob

Tbh, I think i came off as a bit of a plank. If you keep an eye out for chainfire 'Root/kernel' threads in the dev section you can go far wrong.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399for root/clockwork mod recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for step by step guide on how to flash via Odin, and the official roms. I've had the sgs2 for a month now, and after trying the (now deceased) angelom rom, and litening rom, I went back to stock KE7. and tbh, it feels just as quick as the 'customs'. The only thing I would advise is to remove(or freeze) the samsung bloat by using titanium backup. There is another thread somewhere with a list of things you can remove without affecting functionality.

Lol...that's what I was thinking....but my opinion changed when you posted this.
I know i'm going to get bashed for putting this in the dev section, but we really should have a general question for just t mo and not the entire line of phones. I wanted to know if there was a newer recovery out for the t mo variant. The one in the root guide works with no sd card support. There was another one being talked about which had sd card support and worked on my backup but errored on data during the restore.
That problem was fixed.
As stated, it was fixed; you need to flash the CWM recovery v4 from team epic in odin.
Is that the one in the new tool kit that was released?
Maybe posting in the right thread would give you politer and more specific answers. Just a suggestion. :good:

Good night thread.....
@OP please post questions in Q&A.
Obviously you know the rules, dont let this happen again
What are the basic steps of flashing a ROM? After I want to reset back where can I find the original ROM? Or do I just do factory reset? Thanks for reading and have a good day.
Mod Edit: Asking which ROM is best or most stable is not encouraged, have removed this from your question. See my post to follow.
CM7 is currently the most stable. All your other questions can be found by reading the forum for a few minutes.

If you're not sure yet what you want or you just want to try out a new ROM, I suggest making a boot able SD ROM. That way, you still have your original operating system installed internally. Have a search around the development subforum and if you get stuck, report back here.

+1
I keep going back and forth between CM7 and CM10 (cherrypick). But CM10 is horrendous when it comes to battery life.Apparently, the problem is widespread among many devices, too.
I had the same question which was deleted by an administrator....fyi to all those reading such inquiries are verbotten as they encourage trolls. Who knew?
Anyway, I just finished making a CM7 sd card and find it to be running great! Maybe do this, it's pretty easy, Albert Wertz posted a good video on how too do it on another android forum website but I lost the link...it was on another site. Could be on xda but I could not find it there, but admittedly I did not run an advanced search of Albert's posts. You could try looking that way also....sorry I can't be more specific. Check his U Tube videos for it, I think a copy is probably there also. Anyway, once you've done that, making an sdcard for another ROM later should be pretty easy, it's just that I think you have to modify the emmc ROMs for CM9 and/or CM10 to make them SD Card bootable......(see below)
....you know you can load two ROMs on one SD card, google Nook Tablet Dual Boot for Succulent's instructions..a bit more complicated but then you could have any dual boot combo of CM7,CM9, CM10 on one card. The ROM mods necessary to make CM9 and CM10 SD card bootable are in the above mentioned post by Succulent which I found via googling...there may be a link in the development threads for this as well but I didn't find it there myself....you could run an advanced search of Succulent's threads/posts but it comes right up if you google as I suggested. It is a little bit of a daunting process for a person new to this...which is why I stuck with the CM7 SD version.
In deference to the administrator who deleted my thread, DO try to read the development threads on the forum so you know what you are getting yourself into. Also, there is much to be learned there! If you want to use the ROMS, which will have bugs, you can prevent frustration by reading them thoroughly to see what others have encountered and how to fix!
Best of luck.

ROM and Internal Memory
Does the amount of internal Flash memory on the NT make a difference when choosing a ROM?
For example, if I want to install CM7 in internal memory, does it make a difference if the NT is 8GB or 16GB?
I plan on putting all my data on the external SD card anyway.

Not with this ROM it won't.
As snooch6923 has said already her thread was removed as best/most stable ROM threads aren't encouraged on the forums as it's too subjective to opinion, you ask 10 people you'll get 10 answers and be just as confused as you were. Fortunately for you this thread was missed when you posted otherwise it would've been removed by me or another mod but as you've asked other questions and had useful feedback I'll leave this here but I've edited your OP and amended the title of the thread to keep away from that subject.
Remember to also always search, read and then post as there's lots of information available as you've been advised.
Thanks

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been posted before but all I found was "How to push app to /system/app" and such.

Hi Scumbag, seen your posts many times in diff. threads. I'm killing time on my lunch hour so thought I'd chip in ... hmm what springs to mind is you'd have to be rooted to be able to place apps in /system - yah? If you're rooted on JB you're lucky! I lost root and no method has worked so far. Regardless, I suggest that you'd still be able to OTA update since you're not actually modifying system files per se, just adding.
Maybe someone more experienced can confirm or deny. Cheers
Hey thanks for your reply. I have come to the conclusion that I can push to and install an app in /system/app/ without it breaking OTA.
I, like you, lost my root on the upgrade to JB. Try following my conversation with thenrz here.
Hope this helps you. If you have any questions feel free to ask becasue what I did is not blatantly obvious in the thread but if you read it a few times you'll get the jest.
Hi-
Did a search but could not find an answer to this question, so.....
I am getting my GS3 tomorrow and have a ton of apps, music, etc. on my current SD card. Can I just move the card to the new phone and expect that at least the music will be ready to play? I really don't care about the apps/data that my have to be reinstalled on it, but I have over 25GB of music that I really don't want to have to copy over again. Any help here would be most welcome. BTW, i am currently runing ICS 4.04. TIA!
