Hi Scumbag, seen your posts many times in diff. threads. I'm killing time on my lunch hour so thought I'd chip in ... hmm what springs to mind is you'd have to be rooted to be able to place apps in /system - yah? If you're rooted on JB you're lucky! I lost root and no method has worked so far. Regardless, I suggest that you'd still be able to OTA update since you're not actually modifying system files per se, just adding.
Maybe someone more experienced can confirm or deny. Cheers
Hey thanks for your reply. I have come to the conclusion that I can push to and install an app in /system/app/ without it breaking OTA.
I, like you, lost my root on the upgrade to JB. Try following my conversation with thenrz here.
Hope this helps you. If you have any questions feel free to ask becasue what I did is not blatantly obvious in the thread but if you read it a few times you'll get the jest.

What problem are you having? Your post just says you're stuck..... IMO if you can't figure out how to download/install APKs (let alone applications that are provided on market) then you DON'T need a rooted phone.
Here are direct links to locations for both of those applications rather than the androlib links provided in the other thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
http://code.google.com/p/androidterm/downloads/list
Install those and follow the directions in the thread -- funny how people complain that superoneclick doesn't work when this uses exactly the same payload.

Super one click does not work for your information.
And I understand how to have a rooted phone I was asking for help on how to root 2.1.
Shut up with your negative attitude and thank you very much for your helpful post.
And it is funny how you people think that when we ask for help on rooting that we are stupid.
And I didn't mean I was stuck on download .apk files. I was stuck on the first step with the commands and stuff...
I tried to run the adb file and it wouldn't work...

There are two guides on the topic, so you should have asked on one of them, and tried the steps suggested on the first page. People are still asking about it looping despite there being suggestions on the first page to overcome it.
Super one click works on 2.1.
Sometimes fails and does strange loops but after several tries it will work.

There is nothing more that you need to do per se. If you want to install JIT then go here.
what I meant was whats next for me? What do I do? What do I do with superuser and busybox? where and how do I get apps and install them? Sorry to bombard you guys with questions, but I'm sure by now you know that i'm extremely new to all these. Please help me learn! Thanks!
Install jit. Remove bloatware. Apply themes. Read forums for answers.
There its lots you can do.

Oh and you don't really do much with superuser and busybox. But they are needed so leave them alone.

Go to Market for apps, get some basic like Titanium Backup and Restore, APN backup and restore. Do a backup, include system settings. Just in case.
There are several threads on JIT, this is one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829660
Try just the JIT piece before trying optimization.
Read read read, then read some more, and don't be scared to play about with your phone! I'm all for helping people out, but what you want to know is quite basic stuff that you should be finding out by exploring your phone, and you should really have found out "what next" before actually rooting, and HERE is a good place to start.

This is a great post. Particularly the bold part. The majority of phones functionality that I know of, I've learnt from sitting down and playing with it. Most of the questions on this site can be figured out by just looking through all menus, screen etc.
Not having a go at you, but I don't really understand the "I've rooted my phone, now what?" type posts. Why root if you don't know what it does? Especially given that this forum is all about development rather than "make my phone look cool".
As XperiaX10iUser said, it helps to read as much as you can to get a basic grasp on things. Not trying to deter you from asking questions! Just helps to know what you're actually asking when you do.
Maybe you could start to read few of FAQs from the link of my signature?
Thanks everyone! I will do some research and play with my phone more. One of the reasons why I'm kind of scared to really play with my phone is because i'm afraid I might "brick" it =/ what are some of the things a Noob should avoid doing so he doesn't brick his device?

Props to SE, the X10 is pretty unbrickable. I haven't come across anyone who wasn't able to recover their phone. It can be a pain in the ass but do-able. If you do start playing with modding your phone, chances are you will get the yellow exclamation mark of doom at some point, but a little patience and some more reading and you'll be right! Chances are someone else has had the same issue too, so the search tool can be your friend.
The only tip I really have is don't "play" with it late at night when you know you're going to need your phone the next day!
I"m trying to use superoneclick that came with the JIT v2 files, however, I'm having looping problem with shellroot, and i have spend like an hour re-doing it, but it is still looping. Is it because I rooted using z4root? should I re-root it with superoneclick? I tried the "allow non-market apps" and it works fine. It only loops when I try to shell root. I have not tried the rooting option in superoneclick yet..... my debug is checked, and I press "charge phone" when the option pop up, but superoneclick is just killing and starting ADB server. Please help!!
also, I did some search for the multi touch option, but I couldnt find it. How do I enable ( or get) the multi touch option that was otherwise unavailable to un-rooted x10? Thanks for all the helps!

In the Developement section there are multiple guides to getting Titanium Backup to work. I'd check them out and see what you think will work best for you. Probably shouldn't have started a whole new thread for this, but good luck getting it working.
Thanks.
I started a thread for my question, due to being banned for a day, posting a non thread related question/comment.... So i figuered a question here would be safe.

Haha....nothing's safe around here LOL....and I wasn't trying to be a d*ck either. Just saying everyone seems to have a different experience with different methods. You just need to find one you're comfortable trying and give it a go. Plenty of info is available, read, and make sure you understand what you're doing before you do it.
Yeah, I feel you.
I did find a script in that area with the busybox, SU, etc all in one. Thanks for the directional opinion
Here ya go!
I wrote this up to help noobs Follow it step by step and you should be able to use TB--it worked for me!

But also, if this is just for putting apps from your old SD card on your phone...can't you just throw on your old card and transfer apps to your internal memory? Or copy the apps onto your computer and then into your current SD card?
Good luck
Dude, if I could xfr my apps to my pc I would be straight!! And, then load them back to my 3D?? That would be sweet.

If you use the method in jcase's thread, you simply copy+paste commands into the adb window
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Sounds like you used the 3 click method. If that's how you want to do it I think you need to start at step 2.
You should do it through adb though since it sounds like you're a rooting rookie. It'll help in the long run.

JCase's method is a sticky in the development section btw.

Hi, I will be getting this phone today (i9100 unlocked) and have a couple of questions on how to proceed onwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated
1. What is the best firmware and rooted kernel for me to go on?
I want the absolute simpilest way to root my phone (total beginner) and I don't know what firmware I will have when I receive it, I also don't know if I should stay on a gingerbread firmware or go to ics? I also don't care if it is official or custom as long as I'm not sacraficing stability. If possible I would like a rom that is good for battery life. I also want to root my phone in the safest way. There are so many tutorials I didn't know where to start
2. What are some of the essential rooted apps and how do you install them? Through superuser or market?
3. What are the risks involved with a standard flashing/root because I'm getting my phone second hand I don't have warranty.
Thanks for all your help!
Edit: I just say a sticky saying not to ask what roms are the best so I'm sorry if I broke a rule. I just literally have no idea where to start, I've never even used android before. I've found so many methods of rooting and roms but most seem outdated. I would just like someone to point me in the right direction of the up to date way. Sorry if I'm really not supposed to ask!

Superuser is not used to install apps, you would either download them from the market or manually install the .apks

Rooting your phone would void the warranty anyway and bricking is probably your biggest risk.

Yes. There are dozens, if all you wanted me to do was provide a link to a more comprehensive guide, why don't you just learn how to use Google for yourself?

Believe me, I tried, but there are so many options, also, I've now decided to opt for a locked virgin i9100 bcause it was 50 bucks more for a new phone with the warranty, so what's the best way to unlock one? I think I recall a free app.
