Hi all,
I want to preface this by saying I've searched the forums, and have not been able to find my specific circumstance addressed. I'm having a problem where I can receive MMS just fine, but I cannot send any MMS from my Galaxy S2 on KE7 with KE4 modem. I'm using AT&T in the USA, and came from an iPhone 3GS. I'm still on the iPhone unlimited data plan (haven't gotten around to switching to a 4G plan yet). MMS always worked just fine on my iPhone, both ways.
When I go to send an MMS, it just keeps trying to send the message forever. I initially see some data activity in the status bar, but it quits after about 5-6 seconds. The message just sits trying to send unless I delete it manually.
Anyone know why this would be occurring? Help is greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact same problem, but I can't even get receiving mms to work. The message comes through but fails to download. I have tried multiple apn settings but nothing works.
Just curious, but are you guys using wifi when trying to send or receive the mms? Data HAS to be on for mms to work, if I'm not mistaken..

Yes I have tried sending over both wifi and 3g with no luck.

I've tried using with WiFi and without...neither one works. Again, I can receive just fine, just not send.
Here I think is your answer.
If you say for example take a picture or video and then within the Camera app try and send either one as a Message, the MMS will fail IF you have the Camera app set to save to Memory Card.
If you change the Camera app to save to phone, then you can take a 8 MP picture and send it as a MMS from the camera app and it will resize and send.
I have mine set to save to memory card, so after you take a pic, you have to go into Gallery and find the picture, then send the exact same 8MP shot as a Message and this time the GS2 will correctly resize and send it.
I'd say its some bug having to do with saving pictures and video to the memory card, but the above way will get you a MMS to send.
Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty sure that's not my problem. I don't even have an external SD card on my phone, and when I go to the Camera options to change storage location, it's greyed out (can't change it), I assume because I have no other option since I don't have an external SD card installed.
Also, when I have tried sending pics via MMS, Handcent will resize the pic, but it still won't send it. BTW, I have tried sending MMS with the stock messaging app, and that doesn't work either...just in case anyone thought it might be Handcent with the problem.
Under Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, do you have WCDMA Ony checked, or GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode) checked?
I found that if I had WCDMA Only checked, I couldn't get MMS messages to work consistently at all.
I have Auto Mode checked.
bump....need MMS to work. help?
check your MMS message center settings. You can access it within the MMS app>menu>settings.
I had this exact same problem when I updated my modem and found out the reason I couldn't send messages because the Message Center phone number was removed.
The correct one for AT&T is +1312349810. Make sure to put the + there.
Edit: NM sounds like your prob is mms only. I have had this problem with my old vibrant galaxy S1 too. The problem was because of the way phone numbers were formatted. For what it's worth I fixed that problem by editing the contact so that their phone numbers are exactly 10 consecutive digits (3 digit area code + the number) without any hyphens or marks ie: 2382819391. No leading 1's, etc. Not sure why it happens but seems to fix it for me.
I haven't had this issue with my SGS2 though.

My friend got a TB and can't send or receive pictures via mms. He gets the exact same message as a poster on a different forum:
"I just wanted to throw this out there as I have not found a solution...
I've had my Thunderbolt for like a week and a half now and for the majority its been great. Starting about yesterday, I've been unable to send or receive MMS/picture messages.
If someone sends me one, I get a little note in my conversation that says "so and so" is trying to send a message and lets me choose download or delete. This seems new to me, I don't remember seeing this notification in my text convo. If I choose download, it shows a little icon with a clock in it, as its trying to download the picture. After about 5 minutes, I get a notification that it failed because of a generic network failure.
A similar thing happens if I try to send a message to someone with a picture in it. My regular texting works fine and I can go on the internet perfectly. I've tried sending messages with WiFi and/or Mobile Data on/off... doesn't seem to make a difference.
Called VZW last night and they took me through battery pulls, SIM card pulls, and whatnot... didn't fix the problem. They were checking things on their end but did not see an issue. The last woman I got gave me two options, 1, she could open a network tix for me or 2, I could go to store and do a phone swap as I'm in my converage period. I told her to put in the tix for now, and perhaps I'd swap this weekend.
Anyone have any idea what is going on?"
So far nobody has answered. He's using stock rom, and the stock messaging settings / handcent settings match the way they are set on my Evo. If anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated.
is it on 3G or 4G? MMS will not work unless your in data coverage
Does not work on 3g, 4g, or Wi-fi.
what about sending it through regular messaging? I couldn't tell if he is using Handcent or using regular messaging. How about uninstalling Handcent?
The problem persists with or without handcent.
Make sure the picture being sent is not too big. If this doesn't do it you may have to call Verizon about it. Going back a few years I had an issue with my dumb phone. Couldn't receive picks. They had to reset my account. Also some providers don't always send pic messages so well to verizon. Have your friend have some on on Verizon send him a pic.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
This is without doubt the most hassle I have ever had setting up picture messaging.
Ok here goes..
I'm with T-Mobile UK, I have called them up and asked to have MMS capability turned on to which they said all I needed to do was send an MMS and it would automatically enable it for me. I checked my APN settings to make sure they were good to go and went for it.
Sending.....
I don't have a very good signal so at first I thought that might have been the issue. I hung about for an hour or so though, making some funny shapes etc trying to get a sign of the MMS sending.
Sending.....
I trawled the internet looking for any settings that I may have missed out. Meanwhile I found a window where the signal was OK (3bars). I searched my entire lunchbreak until I found that the Galaxy SII doesn't have any support from T-Mobile regarding MMS settings so you need to go directly to the Samsung support page. I had the MMS settings configuration file sent and installed.
Sending.....
I deleted the file that was apparently "sending" and started from scratch. Watched it for a good 10 mins.
Sending....
I turned on the data on my phone, so that I could check the internet and low and behold it sent.
What is going on? Is this normal behaviour for the Galaxy? Any and all MMS compatible phones I have ever had my hands on automatically enable data in order to send and recieve MMS pictures. I made sure that the auto recieve function was on as I couldn't believe what I had witnessed. The Desire that I had before the Galaxy worked fine on it's own, I only needed to actually enable the data connection properly when I wanted to browse the internet or check my email.
Is this the case or have I missed something? Seems like a massive mistake from Samsung if that is the case.
Any help would be appreciated... if it's needed
Anyone? Really annoying this lol.
Hi if someone could clarify for me...I recently went into my settings and went to mobile network settings then Access Point Names...and it's empty says "no Items".
I am able to text and go on internet and send MMS. Is this normal...i thought I seen some settings before in there.
I am on Rogers network and on KI3 stock for last week with no issues.
Should I manual add settings?? I know I can find in these forums just need to know if this seems normal.
Fixed
Sorry guys I just rebooted phone and noticed setting there again..wonder if it had to do with ORBOT I installed?
Since we kinda on subject can anyone tell me why when receiving MMS or sending it is like a video and plays for 5 secs even though clearly a picture?

Same happened to me when I flashed ki3. I just factory reset my phone and it was ok again. I could have just entered it in manually though.
As for mms, that's just how it is. If you want to send it as a photo email it. It much better quality when sent as an email too. Mms compresses the image too much for me.
I am in the US and have a international galaxy s2 on AT&T...My phone is fully rooted, and I am currently running Batista70 FOXHOUD EDITION 2.1 but i cant seem to get my mms on a consistant basis....I have tried several roms so I am pretty sure it isnt that, I can send mms and have a great 3g signal but most of the time I cant recieve my mms...I can browse the internet and download from the market just fine but there again I cant seem to get the mms to recieve...It seems like on a fresh rom install i get the mms fine but then after a day or so I go back to not being able to recieve one at all...I have tried different apn settings and have made sure I am on the right AT&T data plan (HSDPPB) as mentioned in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983) and I still cant get anything consistant on RECIEVING! It has really been agravating and I would love to figure out what I can do to get this working right, I dont know if it is the modem software??? Is it my apn settings??? I have tried different things and still nothing so any help would greatly be apprecitated and I have noticed alot of other people in threads seem to be having this problem so if we can figure it out I would love to make a thread to help out others...thanks in advance...
did you talk to your provider, they may have adjust or refresh your account settings from their end.
That's very weird actually, i used to have issues sending MMS but i never had any issues receiving them.

i have talked to at&t and finally got them to change my account and settings so I know for 100% that I am on the right rate plan and settings......
I to was having problems with MMS on ATT but my problem was sending them not receiving though. After I was sure I had the correct apn setting a customer services specialist had me do this. Try opening your phone dial pad and entering *5005*7672*+13123149810# then the green phone button. This is suppose to reset your sms/mms setting back with the network. Long and behold it fixed my problem of sending mms.
just to double check something - are you leaving your data (edge or 3g) enabled? disabling the phone's data connection will prevent mms from coming through.
In all of my old non-Android phones whenever i was sending or recieving an MMS, the phone would automattically turn on data then download/upload the messege and turn off data. I don't seem to be able to that with my SGS2.
I can send MMS only when data is on and it won't turn on automattically and when i recieve an mms i have a download button on the messege so when i turn on data, I can download the messege.
I've tried installing external apps from Google Play like go SMS and several others to no avail. tried searching for a solution with my carrier, and in this forum...perhaps I missed something, tried setting up a seperate APN for MMS.
Can someone help me?
I'm running i9100 with android 4.0.3 and Orange Israel ROM, not rooted.
I want to avoid rooting the phone

Hi mate,
I don't think there is a way to do this on the S2. It's frustrating isn't it!!
The only way I can think to do it is download an app called Tasker and set it up that way. Tasker can do everything
Good luck!
There is a way.
You have to separate your APN into two APNs. One for internet, and one for MMS. Then have the internet one be the default. The MMS APN will then only activate when you send or receive MMS.
I have mine set up like this.

I have two APNs. one for the 3g data and the other one is wap data(for all the carrier's stuff) and mms.
3g is set up as default but i kind of have trouble seperating wap and mms as i don't know which deffinitions belong in which APN.
I'll contact the tech support again and ask them how to define this stuff properly or just ask them to send me the apn config.
if that doesn't work i'll try tasker like Obagleyfreer suggested.
thank you both for the help
