SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDHC 16GB SDSDQY-016G-E11M
I had a new Class 4 16GB Micro SD Card delivered yesterday after one of my cards failed.
Speed was markebly improved over the old Class 2 cards I have. Data transfer was particularly impressive!
The card is a little pricey £££ and I could have replaced the faulty card with another cheaper Class 2 but thought I'd give the "Ultra" card from Scandisk a go.
I watch a lot of video (on the train on the way into work in London - Heroes, Battlestar Callactica etc !!!) and speed is important - especially for standard DivX with no additional compression! Any lag I had previously has now gone - Very impressed....
I ordered the card from Amazon - link below - and although it states 3-4 days for delivery it arrived next day.....
Here>>> Amazon.co.uk
ScanDisk Official details can be found >>HERE<<
.
Are you getting any skipping/jumping/pausing of music with this card? I would be interested to hear especially with your rom as I did get such problems with my class 2 16gb card and same rom (Dutty 2.3). I've just flashed my old Polaris to 3LIT3 VI Suite and am now getting the problems on this device which I never used to. Hence my theory about the card being the cause of the problem.
Will be interested to hear.
Thank you.
Wow, that is certainly impressive. I presume you're using CorePlayer to play the vids? And no lag at all? Awesome.
PS: To Galactica... best ship in the Fleet.
I've had the card for a few days mow and have just returned from London and can confirm that the video playback is greatly improved. I'm using CorePlayer - I used to get some ghosting (phasing) and the odd skip but now its very smooth indeed.
custardo01 With regard to music - I have never had an issue playing music so cant comment on why your experiencing a problem - I'd recommend copying an audio file onto the main solid state drive (device) and play from there to confirm its a problem with the card before purchasing a new one though?
Arthenik .....Galactica - Absolutely - watched the 2 hour final episode yesterday (on the HD) fantastic but such a shame its over!!!!
.
Well, I guess I'll have to get one too. I'm really impressed by your reactions.
Regarding Galactica, I watched the finale on air and then subsequently at a local Frak Party. Both times were frakkin' awesome. And yeah, I'll really miss the show a lot.
bench of new CLASS 4 SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDHC 16GB SDSDQY-016G-E11M
Hello,
Could you bench the read/write speed of your card with a tools like SKTOOLS
It would help me a lot to make my choice.
Thanks

Palmde - I'll try to find some time this weekend to benchmark but as per previous posts I am very impressed - especially with viewing uncompressed video!
.
Thank's a lot for your help Blob8me.
I own already a SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDHC 8GB and i am very hapy about it: I can watch most of my movies on my HD, without to re-encode them.
I hope that the 16GB version will be at least as good.
So I am waiting your results.
£38.99 including delivery here. They say it's class 4 ?
Just asking but where the hell do you need class 4 microsdhc?
class 4 means it writes 4mb/sec VIDEO to same place in card, so datastream stays healthy for camera usage for example 1080p HD CAMERA.
It doesnt mean it only works that slow. Our HD cannot even match those speed anywhere near. And second these phones do not use that kind of file management to save continuous file stream.
For example I have kingston class 2 and it writes 12mb/sec when using cardreader on PC.
Or example 2 so people really understands. There is SDHC card from sandisk which is Extreme III 30mb/s edition. That is only class 6 card. And it still writes as fast as 30mb/sec. Ive tested this and can confirm since I have those on my DSLR camera.
So question is why do you pay MORE for NOTHING?
Dont read class number, read what it writes and reads per second its what you want to know.
Edit: Ofcourse bigger class means it can be better but class number doesnt tell its real speed. since class number is for continuous data (video writing)
Hi, just got my new Hero and wanted to purchase the cheapest and best micro SD card for it..
I read somewhere that the 'Class 6' cards were the way to go..!!
Can someone advise me if this one will work in my Hero before I click buy.!!
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=104986
If not any suggestions..???
Thanks
Wish I'd seen this sooner! I got ripped off on eBay for an inferior product.
Go for it!
Do you have one of the 'Transcend' then?? I've not seen them before..!! I had assumed it was the same but thought i'd check.!!!
Thanks for your help.. What do you think of the Hero BTW??
The 2GB card that my Hero came with is made by Transcend. And with the Album app its way faster than the SanDisk 8GB Class 4 card I was going to use until I realised it was so slow in comparison.
Some SD card tests in the Hero would be great if someone has a few to try out

No - the eBay seller sent me un unbranded un classified (Class 2?) card when their ad clearly stated class 6.
As for the Hero - it's awesome!
Edit: I used a utility to test the speed of the card I was sent and it performs at around 8MB per sec - above the class 6 spec. I tested the card that came with the Hero and it came out at just over 1MB per sec - below even class 2. Guess which card I'm using now?
Cheers
Just ordered one of these because of this thread
long live xda-crew!
Me too!! cheers guys
Ordered..... thanks for that find.

It's called Drive Speed Checker.
Is that an Android app or PC app ? Can't find it on the Market.

It's a PC App. You get it here.
Grrr, literally just bought a lexar class 4 from my memory for slightly more money, wish I had checked this.
Do all apps have to be reinstalled when insert a new card or can I just simply copy the contents of old memory card to new one?

I copied one card to the other using my PC. Had to restore some album art using Album Art Grabber but that was it.
Great stuff, thanks - gonna order one of these this week
With SD Cards in the Hero using A2SD, what is more important - the read speed or the write speed?

depends what you're doing, doesn't it? if you're gonna be writing lots of data to the card, then obviously the write speed (i'm thinking, for example, if you're taking lots of pictures with the camera, installing lots of applications maybe, etc etc). if you're just interested in reading from the card - e.g. listening to your music collection - then you'd want that to be pretty fast. my guess is that the bottleneck, in general, is going to be the write speed on any card - but i don't know much about these cards, still learning ;-)
Excellent find thanks
Got one on order so all looking good for my newly rooted G2
Have fun Devchef1

The speed in album app is more related to if your thumbnails are created correctly on your sdcard. There is an increasing number of persons that realizing that they have this problem.

Ok, I bit the bullet and bought a Lexar 32 gb class 10 MicroSDHC for my X10.
I transfered all of my stuff onto it, including 4.5 gb of music. Problem is, now my phone lags like hell, freezes constantly and even reboots at random times.
Browsing the sd with a file manager is super slow and it takes ages to delete something in there too (when it doesn't reboot)
It's all the same stuff I had on my Sandisk class 2. I've formatted it, tested the card on pc and it's all fine/genuine etc, and it works fine in other devices.
Using stock 2.1, rooted.
Does this phone have a problem with 32gb class 10 ??
Try this, I did it to my stock 16gb Class 2 and it works AMAZING!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
Precisely, I had the exact same problem after I bought the 32g card.
Oh it pissed me off lol, but I sat the Cache size for AR to 4000 instead of the 128.
It works.

I have the same problem as many of the others in that thread.
- Cant locate init.d folder where they suggest it might be (yes I did root).
Having already installed xrecovery, I'd rather not change to CWM. Does anybody have a zip/script which can be applied with xrecovery, or a simple, x10 viable, set of instructions to apply?
That post works amazing! On my 16gb class 4 sandisk card
before was write: 3.9MB/s read: 18MB/s
after was write: 6.5MB/s read: 90.2MB/s !!!!!! thats right 90.2 !
changed from 128 to 3072

Oh, how I would LOVE to say that worked, but alas I cannot
It certainly sped up the read/write on sd tools, but everything was still super-lagging and my phone rebooted itself several times when I saw simply copying the script text from my sd.
Seems like every time I try to make, edit or rename a file on the sd card it just gives in.
Could this possible be something to do with android 2.1??
I mean, people use 32gb cards, people use class 10. But this is both, and my X10 HATES it.

Oh, so you have the same one?
How was it in your X10 before you applied this mod??
seems like this is only for 2.2? because im having problems with 2.1 as well, just like you LususNaturae.
I had the same problem with my 16gb Class 10. I think I created the problem myself by formatting the card improperly with my PC. I let it choose the default cluster size, when in reality I should've chosen the largest cluster size. I don't quite remember the choices, but I believe that the default cluster size was 2k or 4k, and I fixed the problem by formatting with 16k or 32k.
I don't have any technical information about why this worked for me, but it did. I'd recommend you google for more information before trying this.

How much did you brought your sdcard by ?
i'm planning to get a 32gb class10 patriot, any suggestion of better quality products?
im thinking of patriot too, the other cards in the price range are team and a-data... not sure about them though
Kingmax cards are good and cheap, mine is from Kingmax...
I believe the script for memory card speed is meant for 2.2 only.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I use it on my phone running CM6, while my brother uses modded 2.1 and cannot make it work on it.

Turns out that it was too good to be true, I knew it was off somehow... a day or so later the dev of the speed test app updated and fixed "inaccurate speed readings" so now my read speed is back to normal around 20MB/s.
are the cards 32GB micro SD class 10 from ebay uk good?
anyone has got them there?
any suggestion for where to get a cheap one in sweden?

The lexar does not like my X10 at all, at least stock 2.1 anyway.
If I try a 2.2 rom it's flawless, but stock reboots, lags and dies.
I'm considering buying a class 6 8 GB sd card because i heard it might be the best for xperia x10. Any insight or any recommendations for a specific SD you may think is better?
why 8gb? I think the package comes with an 8gb card right? might as well upgrade to 16gb!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
mine was shipped with a 2gb. Im not too concerned about the size, more somewhat with the performance, although i know the sd card doesnt add much to performance.
Try this i checked it out on my x10a and with the settings.
Wintec filemate mobile pro 16gb class 10 this has 1080p video recording capabilities.
and read this a copy of my post for settings.
This I think is a better way is to just use
SD speed increase (thanks to DIEGO STAMIGNI for the app)

i have mine set at 3072kb and when i open Media scape it's like instant view when i scroll my pics, music and videos and when i open Titanium and my camera, camcorder it's farging awesomely FAST and thats on a 2gb sandisk which is what you get thru att when you buy a x10a.
I recently bot a Wintec filemate mobile pro 16gb class 10 this has 1080p video recording capabilities. Tried to test my 2gb card with sd tools but its not working after last update??? NOW WORKING 4/26/11

From the US. Figures they got cheap and shipped with only a 2gig
@ Patrick- Thanks, I will look into that!
comes with a 16 gb here in canada
AT&T jips you on everything. Got the 2gb here too. Wintec Filemate 16gb class 10 at Frys Electronics for just under $40.

This helps a little bit too. Tried it on the 2gb that was included but it only had minor increase in performance. Not sure the class on it.
What are you planning on using it for? Music, Video, or App2SD.
Class 10 16gig 60 quid but well worth the money. PNY

Greetings!
For anyone interested.
I am now using Sandisk 64GB microSD XC card with my Xperia Ray.
Everything is working as it should, no issues at all, like with any other card.
I had 16Gb Transcend class6, and it was great, than I moved on to 32Gb Sandisk class4, and it was causing some slowness like 720p movie lag, slow opening of videos etc.
Now upgraded to 64Gb Sandisk, and its great, speed is very good, copying files into the phone, speed is 8-10mb/s, and from the phone 15-20mb/s.
Card comes formatted to NTFS, had to initialise it from the phone, using MIUI rom 2.3.2 (Android 2.3.7).
I hope the upcoming 128gb card is supported as well
Best luck to all.
Nice to hear that it works fine , but how do you spen 64 GB on a phone? its just a curious question, right now i have 32 GB, have Ndrive, shadowgun, a lot of pics I take, and some videos (not neccesarily 720p, the screen its not as good), ahh and like 2 backups of the system, and still have 21 GB free's
I have 16GB SanDisk, class 4 and I can run 720p movies great. Write speed 7-8 mbps, read 26-28 mbps.

That's incredible, I didn't think this was possible for some reason. Soon I will have my whole music collection on my Ray, hooray!
? SDXC Card in Live with walkman ?
I´ve found here Info that SDXC Card with 64GB work in Xperia Ray and Mini Pro. Live with walkman was about same time released in 2011. Anyone tried to use SDXC card in LWW? And does it?
Has anyone tried with Mini Pro?

That's interesting, I didn't see that post.
O.K. looks like it's supported
For those who've tried. Any real world performance gains?
I find 32gb has been sufficient, but would like a performance bump.
Mike
I bought a really cheap 64GB sd card (only 18$) and surprisingly it works well - Stock .42 GB with stock kernel. Formated in FAT32.
Although the read/write speeds are not great.
