[Q] Add e-mail domain to keyboard - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, on a lot of android keyboards when it knows you're entering an e-mail address, an "@gmail.com"/"@hotmail.com"/etc... option usually appears. I like to use the SwiftKey which uses gmail, hotmail, and yahoo.com domains. It seems like there should be a way to ADD a domain to this list...or just replace hotmail and yahoo with domains I actually use (e.g. my school and work e-mails: "@kent.edu" and "@sparkbase.com"). This would be super helpful and I have to assume other people would love the option as well but I haven't had any luck googling it. Ideas?

Default email client

Hi,
I use my phone mostly for work related things and I find the default email client to be quite hopeless. If I set it up as a premium a/c, then as soon as I read an email, all mails are marked read. If I don't set it as a premium, I can't use the push mail feature and thenceforth have to set it on a periodic poll. Also here the email notifications are quite unreliable.
I was on 2.3.3 and recently flashed to 2.3.5 and I sees no difference at all.
So I use touchdown, but it has its own share of problems.
I would just like to know how you all are dealing with this. (I expected Samsung to pack a powerful email apparently, but looks like its not on their list of things)
Thanks
Vishal
I use Kaiten mail due to the same problem you have had with stock mail client. Setup your email for imap and it becomes true push email with Kaiten mail. Very nice program.

[Q] Email Client

Does anybody know of an email client that allows you to remove the sender's name, email address and "send to" list? I've tried several and they either don't allow it or remove the email content. I certainly don't mid paying (a reasonable amount) for an app, but I don't want to buy a bunch only to delete them.
I've tried:
Maildroid
K-9
WP7
And a few others but these are what are still installed.
Help would be appreciated.

[Q] Email problems

Hi
Recently got a galaxy tab 10.1, and has 3.1 installed - no upgrade available yet apparently.
Anyway, I'm not sure if I've missed something glaringly obvious, but I'm reasonably literate with stuff like this. I'm trying to get my email setup, and have tried a number of apps. Until ICS comes out, Ive decided to use the stock email app, the samsung one..
Anyway, I can add multiple accounts, so I've got gmail, hotmail etc. The only problem is gmail (IMAP?) has a change displayed name feature, whereas hotmail (on activesync?) doesn't... So if my email is [email protected], my equivalent gmail has a display name setting to change that to whatever I want, in this instance Mr Bob Smith. However, the hotmail doesn't, and when I send an email, it's from winterscoming, essentially just the first part of the email address.
I can't believe that this is a bug / intentional, but the setting isn't there under the hotmail account. I was hoping l could shed some light on this. No luck searching - Otherwise it's a great little device.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
So no-one's come across thiss then? Basically to stop the stock mail app using the first part of the email address as opposed to my name?
Could anyone confirm whether they have the option to change the display name when usinf exchange activesync, especially with hotmail?
Cheers guys - much appreciated
If I follow you... Try adding yourself "Mr. Bob Smith" as a contact with the winterscoming email addres associated with it.
That should make it display as the Name rather than the email address.
I have a hotmail account in the stock email, open the stock email, goto [email protected] inbox, tap menu, account manager
tap [email protected], edit the account settings with account name "Mr Bob Smith", your name "Bob", signature "Bob Smith Hotmail on Android Tab"
your sent emails should show
(from) Bob ([email protected])
To: [email protected]
content - your message
sent from Bob Smith Hotmail on Android Tab
or whatever your preferences
hi
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I can change the signature, but I cant change the your name section as its an exchange account. I can change the account name but this only changes the displayed name in the email app.
Tried adding myself as a contact too - no luck.
For now all my emails are from 'winterscoming'
Could this be the crappy 3.1 and touchwiz? Dont have this problem on gmail or another activesync account ive added after
Cheers
I've got the exact same problem too. I can't enter a name for my activesync accounts so it displays the first bit of my email address as the sender name. So damn frustrating, I've been using Enhanced Email instead but the lack of split screen view is really annoying on a tablet.
Has anyone got a solution?

Gmail via Exchange Activesync Help

I'd like to use my gmail account connected via exchange activesync. I set that up with various email apps and it works nicely.
The only problem is that I don't use my gmail address as my known email address. I have an alias that points to gmail. When I email people, I want that alias to show as the email and reply to addresses.
When I have everything set up via IMAP/SMTP, I'm able to do that with K9.
Unfortunately, when connected via the Activesync way and I send mail, it always shows my gmail address to the recipient.
Is there any way/app that would allow me to do what I want?
I do have my alias set up as a send mail as option in the gmail web interface.

Bump. I've tried a bunch of different apps. Looks to me that when you use activesync, Google hardcodes your Gmail address as the From address.
If anyone finds anything different, please share.
Back to Gmail's broken implementation of imap. Maybe one day they'll start to push read flags.

[Q] IMAP Email Gone?

Greets all,
Was wondering if anyone might have this issue. I setup my phone to grab my emails, I set it up as an IMAP so that this way I could get the emails but keep it on the server, so this way I can download it on my computer into outlook later on. Up until the One max, I never had an issue and always set it up the same way, I recently just noticed that after I read a email and if I delete it from the phone it seems to delete it off the server as well. I tested this out by sending myself an email and then deleting it, then going into outlook to receive the email but it wasnt there. If I got into the server its in the deleted folder and not in the inbox as it should be.
Anyone else notice this?
Well I just tried something else, I just set it up as a POP account, and it works as IMAP, Hmmm I wonder if they messed up and named them wrong, where Imap is suppose to be pop and pop is suppose to be IMAP.
Still curious to see others responses.
When i click Add account, it shows Other(POP/IMAP)
Screen shot attached for your reference, what do you get?
Same thing except I dont have Gmail or Yahoo in the list, just the other three, but thats not where the problem is, its after you pick Other/pop3. Long story short: I have my own email, I set it up through aol a long time ago when they were giving away domain names for free, then they dropped it and I had to get it registered through another place to keep it, but I still can use aol's mail settings in outlook to get me mail. The problem is I can see the email on aol's site, and download it to my outlook, but the first way I set it up on the phone I would see it on the phone and then delete it, when I go into outlook it would say no mail, but if I went to aol's site and looked in the trash it was in there where its not suppose to be, its suppose to be in the inbox to be downloaded to my outlook. But when I changed the setting to pop setting, it is working as Imap should.

Ah okay, i got your problem... i don't know why imagined that you PC was missing IMAP, but was that not the IMAP was supposed to work..., 2 way communication = IMAP
POP vs IMAP
If you're trying to decide between using POP and IMAP, we encourage you to use IMAP.
Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client. This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign in).
IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given time.
Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP avoids this through two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients and your web Gmail.

Okay you missed the whole point here. When I chose IMAP with my email on my phone, and then delete it from the inbox (select and hit trash can) its suppose to delete from the phone inbox, but should show up as new in my outlook 2010 on my pc as new. It doesnt show up at all. If I go to a web browser and login into my email, its in my trash folder and not in my inbox as it should be.
Now if I change the setting on the phone FROM IMAP to POP, THEN is works correctly as IMAP.
they way i have always thought of imap to work is , as the other poster mentioned: 2 way communication.
if i delete mail on the phone (imap), then on my web based email, that same email will be deleted there.
if i move an email from , say, inbox to some other folder on my phone, then on the server it too will get moved there.
this is how imap is supposed to work? at least that is how it has worked for me over the years...
i have 4 email accounts on my own email server. i use gmail to fetch that mail and i also use my web based interface to access it. the mail is synced everywhere its supposed to be.
i have the all set to imap, not pop.

me too... yes that's how IMAP works, i am guessing OP has some little confusion on it..
I do understand this, but coming from a samsung galaxy note, this wasnt the case. On computers it did work this way, but every phone I've had and including the Note did not work this way, this is the first time its functioning this way, which I thought was odd.
