You guys don't have to be so rude or disrespectful I haven't been on these fourms for a while and as I been rootin my phone I never once saw amywhere saying that. I might not be looking at every post like you guys do. Doesn't mean I'm trolling just means I missed it. On a side note I hope it does work in later builds or I'm have to flash another build

in general just reading the op of the rom you are downloading will tell you everything you need to know.
as to your gps woes it will be a while until the vibrant has functioning gps on CM7 (waiting on a gingerbread leak and source code as i understand it) so my suggestion to you would be to get an external bluetooth gps receiver like the ones discussed in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15466429#post15466429
I personally have the one mentioned in the op and i can tell you that it works 500% better than the stock gps on the vibrant ever did (either on eclair or froyo)
-Cheers

the reason that it seemed like the sky fell on you was, first you asked a question that has been asked in the thread that it should be asked in, oh about every 5 posts since cm7 for the vibrant was released.
But what really took it over the top, was you felt the need to make a separate thread about it, and even went so far as to say that cm7 broke your gps. had you read probably 3 of the last pages in the cm7 thread before posting this, you would have known you answer, and probably had you opened the vibrant dev section and viewed threads there, you'd have seen the public service announcement thread about gps not working.
I know some of the responses are inappropriate, but it's more about you felt entitled enough to make a dedicated thread about it rather than using the tools available to you in the first place to find your answer.

the answer to this question and more can be found by opening the vibrant dev section, and first reading the thread titles, followed by reading the first post in the rom your interested in, and looking for a place where they list what isn't working/broken.

Noted, I do plan on flashing another rom, but I am a little scared. I am reading CM7 is different from most roms and I would have to flash a new kernel and rom and etc to have it, but im still a little confused on how to do it

While I am also shocked you missed this... to answer your question, you may prefer a rom like Trigger 3.2. Its rock stable, has gps, and is themed well. it is not GB.
If you HAVE to have GB, try Asgard.

i'm not going to explain howto here, as the post right abvove mine has a link to a how to, you'll need to odin back to jfd before flashing any other rom besides miui.

basically all Froyo/Eclair Roms Have working GPS. The Big Name JVP Roms have working GPS. CM7/Miui and any variants of them do NOT have working GPS.
so just goto the development section and look at any 2.3.4 Roms NOT cm7/Miui and read the features and/or Changlog for full information. SGSII clone/hybrid and Simply Honey are excellent choices both based off JVP and have "working" gps. just make sure you read the op to understand how gps functions with those roms.
Good Luck.
just make sure you ODIN back to JFD stock before flashing anything else or you'll experience bootloops and thats annoying imo.
****** Stay away from Bootloaders if your new to all this as you can Permanently paperweight your phone if you flash a new rom hastily without reading and removing certain load files in the rom. *******

Well thanks guys I will look into it, If I go back to stock does that mean it will be unrooted? or just rooted but stock everything else?
second whats gb?
also I found a post that has a guide to undoing some stuff so im able to flash another rom besides CM7 ones so I might look into that one

GB = Gingerbread
Android Releases
Stock Vibrant 2.1 (Eclair
Froyo 2.2+
Gingerbread 2.3+
you should have a modified update.zip from rooting originally you can use that to reroot your phone and begin flashing again
Odin back to stock
3 button to recovery
update packages until you reach clockwork recovery menu then flash new rom its that easy.
if you want full functionality stay away from CM7/Miui for the time being.

you should have 3 things on your PC
Odin3 (i have V1.81)
512.pit
T959UVJFD.tar
that will get you to stock.
then from there follow the 3 button method i posted above to reroot.
and to answer your question yes the guides will work fine. and again i can't stress this enough stay away from Bootloaders, as your knowledge and research about flashing seems lacking atm you can perma break your vibrant (not meaning this offensively)

Thanks man, I will try this soon =]

Im afraid of rooting Vibrant. I rooted my Mt3g with ease. But this.

I rooted the MT3G with ease. And the flashing of Roms and stuff is easy for Mt3g. But it seems hard for the Vibrant. I don't use abd or anything cause frankly. I don't know how. Can you guys maybe give me suggestions?

Read, understand, experiment. Ppl only get their troubles or "panic" because they dont have anything setup & dont know how to get them selves out it. If you dont want to learn our try to use the tools that are available then just wait till the one-click ROMS or CM comes out.
If you want to take the time to learn then I would suggest to head over to the vibrant "bible".
Easiest way is just to down load one click lag fix from market there is a root option there. Or it really was easy this oas my first android phone. Download the update filter put it in the internal sd and rebooted using hold vol + vol- and power. And installed from there no problem.
Just check out the stickied thread about vibrant tips and tricks

I wondered about rooting too at first, but as it turns out it's very easy. I've read several comments on how easy it is to root the Vibrant compared to Android phones back in the olden days.
And if you want to flash a neat ROM, go check out Bionix.

I just got this phone 2 days ago (my first smartphone ever!) and I've flashed it probably 6 or 7 times now...
Important advice: Right now, once you've installed Clockwork ROM Manager, make a backup of your ROM! I really wish I'd done this, just a near-stock, untouched backup (yes every thread post starts with "make a backup!" but I was stupid)
Now for some encouragement: If I, with zero knowledge of Android/rooting/ROMs/build.prop files/Clockwork/adb/Odin before Sunday at 4 pm, managed to F with this phone as much as I have and not even come close to bricking it, you'll be *golden* just flashing it with a well-known ROM.
Flashing ROMs is super easy with Clockwork. It's like... 3 or 4 clicks easy.
Right now I'm running Bionix and really enjoying it. You might check it out while we all wait for Cyanogenmod to come out for Vibrant.
TL;DR: I've been pushing files, flashing broken ROMs, all sorts of fun stuff and my phone is still pluggin' away. I wouldn't worry too much about bricking. Just read the threads, search the Googles, and ask for help if you get really stuck. And backup.
Make sure you check out Eugene323's stuff as well. He puts out some incredible work.

I had more problems with my MT3G than I did with this phone. It took a day to root and rom the MT3G since I have the one with the head phone jack (stupid gold card crap).
Do what everyone has suggested. DL the One Click Lag Fix and touch the option to root. I'm running the Bionix 1.3 and it's good.

[ODIN] Odin Superclean files

Hey all,
For those of you unaware, droidxcon over on android central ( thanks for the heads up ) has been making full Odin files of Adyrn's Superclean ROMS.
Seems like he updates with each new base version too.
I've used these to get my phone working more than once now, so I thought I would share

There is a stock ODIN file for DL09 that is still available, but I don't think anyone did ODIN files for the custom ROMs.
Custom kernels are where it's at for battery life. I just can't bring myself to go back to Eclair for longer than a couple hours at a time.

You can flash these then immediately boot into recovery and flash the voodoo kernel. It only adds an additional minute or two to the whole installation process.
I recommend the EC10 voodoo kernel.

I needs ta learn to readz.
I prefer these Odin files. I had difficulties getting CWM to work.
Could someone please point me to a thread, or a tutorial about packaging these? I would like to be able to do that in case I use a ROM that doesn't yet have Odin files in the future.
I apologize for going off topic. I do think that folks reading this might have a similar interest though. My Google-fu was not strong enough to find the answer myself.

the leak was already ported... just as this will be. i wouldn't expect gps, but hopefully we can get an actual recovery...
So when it is official could we just Odin back to stock and upgrade legitimately through kies?

Lol, CM7 is a joke on the Vibrant. CyanogenMod is always a step ahead of the drivers available for Samsung devices, so it will *never* work properly on a Samsung. By the time they have what they need to make it work, they're already pushing out a new "no wifi no gps no nothing useful" version. Nothing against CyanogenMod, but... Try CM7 (or any version) is never much of an answer on the Vibrant and recommending it to anyone is pointless.
That said...
Every time anyone posts a thread asking when, T-Mobile kills a kitten, Baby Jesus cries, and another week will go by before the update.

From the thread on CM7 for the Vibrant:
Known bugs:
You can't get into recovery/download without the 3 buttons combo. (You can't from inside the ROM, so do NOT flash if you can't use the 3 button combo.)
Problems switching between 2G and 3G when data is connected. (You may get un-reliable data.)
Compass. (works not at 100%)
Video playback may be choppy with some formats.
GPS is broken.
May have many other bugs that are unlisted.
Polling problem on RIL (Works after you lock and unlock your phone.)
USB Tethering is currently broken
Battery life has significantly improved with latest unofficial nightly (3/31) and the latest Additional kernel. See below. However, it is still not as good as stock.

[Q] 4.0 ICS Upgrade

if i were to root my S2 will i still be able to get the upgrade when 4.0 is release?
If you root your phone and learn how to flash roms, you'll almost guaranteed be able to put ICS on it long before it's released for this phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
but would the rooted ROM have the same features as the "stock upgrade"? because i know some of the customize rom have glitches in them most of the time
Yes it would work. To what level and how smoothly it works would be up to you for what you would be willing to try out.
While that may not seem like the answer you were looking for, let me put it this way. When I had the captivate and they finally updated it with official 2.2 (froyo) there were already great 2.3 (gingerbread) roms available that worked amazing.
And the same story with the updates from 2.1 to 2.2.
Sure if you don't modify your phone at all, over-the-air (ota) updates will for sure work. But you can revert your phone back to stock (from a custom rom) to be able to receive those updates, whenever they decide to release them, anytime you want.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I think yes. There is rooted stock rom with all ATT and Google stuff in it.
So you should be able to update with this rom.

I think you will have a better chance to get upgrade to ICS earlier.
Yeah, as said earlier, AT&T official updates often lag by one major version, best case. Look at the Captivate.
Froyo after I9000 got GB, GB still unavailable.
Just like the Captivate and the I9000, the I9100 is our "International brother" and stuff can be ported rapidly.
Depending on the state of Samsung's ICS kernel source release, it may take only a few days for a 95% functional ICS ROM to become available for I777. (Longer if they leave out the MAX8922 driver...)

hi... i have been searching for a rom which is as close to stock roms provided by samsung.... read sumwhere samsung i9000's rom has been ported to vibrant but i couldnt find any... ic anybody knows anything abt this or any other gb rom with touch wiz, plz let me know...
thanks.
Using Odin to go back to stock would probably be a best way to do it, but if you're dead set on a ROM you could look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193
And specifically here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24149078&postcount=224
Hopefully that link still works, but if it doesn't I think that Moped Ryder has a thread where he rehosted those files. You'll have to look around for it though.
Nice thing about that ROM is that it comes rooted, and busyboxed for you.
i want a gb rom, not 2.1 or 2.2. so i think i am stuck with either cm7 or those simply honey and simply stock roms wich are heavily themed. i dont like thems.... read a guide about porting gb roms of i9000 i think will have to giv it a shot....

I know your asking for a GB ROM but you should really move on, Chimera 1.1 is the future. Go ahead and install Chimera 1.1 ROM, if you don't like this ROM then something is seriously wrong. I would recommend Platypus kernel if you do switch over. Chimera comes with a custom installer with multiple options for kernels, apps, keyboards etc. The custom installer is awesome, you can literally set it up to install whatever you want and whatever you DONT want. www.team-passion.com is where you will find it, try it seriously! Worst thing that happens is you don't like it but its really the best ROM i have ever used, period. If you do install, choose apex launcer or even samsung launcher if you want the samsung look, the cndlauncher has problems so do not install it! O yea, 911 has been proven to work on chimera also, try it dude.

Dude the OP asked for something else. Stop trolling every thread with Chimera, it's like recommending a very good dentist to someone with a pain in the middle finger.

I cant seem to find any change log on it. I did find this:
http://www.team-passion.com/index.php/roms/galaxy-vibrant/19-chimera-v1-1
But it doesn't indicate that 911 works. One person on a forum does does indicated that it works. Each build varies and each area varies from what Ive seen.
I have no problem suggesting an ICS ROM, but I would like to see more folks at least warning of the ICS Encryption Unsuccessful bug.

I agree with you. It's funny how you can screw your phone on ics roms without any warning. And i saw a guy reporting this bug on a passion rom and asking for help and nobody could help because they had no idea.

From what Ive read it literally encrypts partitions making odin or Jtag useless. The "fix" is actually a work around from what I see. You substitute your external sdcard for android required partitions.

The last ROM built for our phones by Samsung:

Tweaked just a little to add lockscreens, shutdown menu, and rooted.

I know nothing about this bug to be honest. I saw a thread named encryption bug but didn't think it was worth reading since I haven't experienced it, knock on wood.

No to go too far off topic, but if you are running ANY ICS rom, you need to be aware of the risks of this bug. It doesn't descriminate. Just yesterday, someone Odin'd to JFD and flashed all the way to ICZen (which has been the least effected ROM) and got it. Fortunately he was able to somehow get it back to full working status, but if you are unaware to what this bug is, I suggest at the very least to make a backup of your internal_sd. The internal is what gets Encrypted and right now there is NO key and only a handful of people have come back from it. There is no solution or concrete cause for this bug.
Good Luck.

Your being an asshole, that's all there is to it. Chimera is a blend of AOKP and CM9, I figured the dude might like it so I let him know.

JBQ from Google confirmed in a post on a Google group that Android will assume any partition that doesn't contain valid data or zero is encrypted:
JBQ said:
Yup, with encryption support in ICS, Android has become a lot more
picky about having all the filesystems initialized with valid data,
and mistakenly assumes that anything that's not zero or valid is
encrypted, refusing to go any further.
In Gingerbread and before, anything that wasn't valid was expected to
be invalid, and Android would just re-initialize it, regardless of
whether it was zero or not.
You're lucky you didn't have to work with Honeycomb, where zeros were
considered encrypted.

If you read the EU threads, it's obvious life goes on post-EU. I got hit a while back, partitioned an external sdcard, and then used the emmc / sdcard swap to deal with the loss of access to my internal sd. If I get hit again, it's much easier to manage the situation with a portable ext sdcard. For one person, it was as simple as a chkdsk from a pc fixing the issue without losing any data.
Everyone's risk tolerance level will vary, but the benefits / performance and dev progression of ICS far out weigh any reason for me to consider downgrading. Imo, it's nasty, yes ... yet a manageable situation as long as you know the risks (and be proactive about backing up your data to another device or cloud acct).
Since EU, I religiously keep my TiBu data sync'd in Dropbox and consciously steer towards apps with online sync / backup capabilities, etc.
Moral of the story is ... once you go thru it, it's only as painful as how well you've heeded this man's sage advice:
