hi... i have been searching for a rom which is as close to stock roms provided by samsung.... read sumwhere samsung i9000's rom has been ported to vibrant but i couldnt find any... ic anybody knows anything abt this or any other gb rom with touch wiz, plz let me know...
thanks.
Using Odin to go back to stock would probably be a best way to do it, but if you're dead set on a ROM you could look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193
And specifically here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24149078&postcount=224
Hopefully that link still works, but if it doesn't I think that Moped Ryder has a thread where he rehosted those files. You'll have to look around for it though.
Nice thing about that ROM is that it comes rooted, and busyboxed for you.
i want a gb rom, not 2.1 or 2.2. so i think i am stuck with either cm7 or those simply honey and simply stock roms wich are heavily themed. i dont like thems.... read a guide about porting gb roms of i9000 i think will have to giv it a shot....

Heathen put up Xerxes which is unthemed right now with just a few tweaks for performance. I've tried it and it works nice. Has the multiple lock screen mod as well as the 19 toggles mod. Based on GB 2.3.6 JW1.

yep gud rom.. but video playback is not upto the mark in this rom...
I know your asking for a GB ROM but you should really move on, Chimera 1.1 is the future. Go ahead and install Chimera 1.1 ROM, if you don't like this ROM then something is seriously wrong. I would recommend Platypus kernel if you do switch over. Chimera comes with a custom installer with multiple options for kernels, apps, keyboards etc. The custom installer is awesome, you can literally set it up to install whatever you want and whatever you DONT want. www.team-passion.com is where you will find it, try it seriously! Worst thing that happens is you don't like it but its really the best ROM i have ever used, period. If you do install, choose apex launcer or even samsung launcher if you want the samsung look, the cndlauncher has problems so do not install it! O yea, 911 has been proven to work on chimera also, try it dude.

I cant seem to find any change log on it. I did find this:
http://www.team-passion.com/index.php/roms/galaxy-vibrant/19-chimera-v1-1
But it doesn't indicate that 911 works. One person on a forum does does indicated that it works. Each build varies and each area varies from what Ive seen.
I have no problem suggesting an ICS ROM, but I would like to see more folks at least warning of the ICS Encryption Unsuccessful bug.

From what Ive read it literally encrypts partitions making odin or Jtag useless. The "fix" is actually a work around from what I see. You substitute your external sdcard for android required partitions.

No to go too far off topic, but if you are running ANY ICS rom, you need to be aware of the risks of this bug. It doesn't descriminate. Just yesterday, someone Odin'd to JFD and flashed all the way to ICZen (which has been the least effected ROM) and got it. Fortunately he was able to somehow get it back to full working status, but if you are unaware to what this bug is, I suggest at the very least to make a backup of your internal_sd. The internal is what gets Encrypted and right now there is NO key and only a handful of people have come back from it. There is no solution or concrete cause for this bug.
Good Luck.

JBQ from Google confirmed in a post on a Google group that Android will assume any partition that doesn't contain valid data or zero is encrypted:
JBQ said:
Yup, with encryption support in ICS, Android has become a lot more
picky about having all the filesystems initialized with valid data,
and mistakenly assumes that anything that's not zero or valid is
encrypted, refusing to go any further.
In Gingerbread and before, anything that wasn't valid was expected to
be invalid, and Android would just re-initialize it, regardless of
whether it was zero or not.
You're lucky you didn't have to work with Honeycomb, where zeros were
considered encrypted.

If you read the EU threads, it's obvious life goes on post-EU. I got hit a while back, partitioned an external sdcard, and then used the emmc / sdcard swap to deal with the loss of access to my internal sd. If I get hit again, it's much easier to manage the situation with a portable ext sdcard. For one person, it was as simple as a chkdsk from a pc fixing the issue without losing any data.
Everyone's risk tolerance level will vary, but the benefits / performance and dev progression of ICS far out weigh any reason for me to consider downgrading. Imo, it's nasty, yes ... yet a manageable situation as long as you know the risks (and be proactive about backing up your data to another device or cloud acct).
Since EU, I religiously keep my TiBu data sync'd in Dropbox and consciously steer towards apps with online sync / backup capabilities, etc.
Moral of the story is ... once you go thru it, it's only as painful as how well you've heeded this man's sage advice:

Getting some FCs on LPP, but it does blaze.
Edit: Getting a few more FCs. Skype, Rom Manager, plus a lot of games. I'll keep testing though. Running jt's clean Rom v0.4 and the 11/02 non-voodoo kernel.
Yeah, just too much closing, even without warning and not FCing, just backing to the homescreen. Updates will be awesome.

Just In Time Compiler (JIT) The best part of Froyo.
Guys, its not a kernel it adds files to libs and ect.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ok so going through the Samdroid forum for info on this, I saw like 400 pages of posts. I saw nothing of a release for fascinate, only spica. I would really like to try this but have a few questions. Is everyone that is getting the FC's running voodoo or standard? Theres not much mention in these posts. Will this allow for Flash?
tons of fc
After running for a couple hours only got one fc, but most apps would not open on the first attempt. The screen would zoom and go black like the app was opening, then I'm sent back to the launcher. Second attempt would usually open the app.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've tried running both the original and the updated version. For starters there's WAY too many FC's and the apps not opening on the first, second, or third try is obnoxious and I personally can't handle it and don't have the patience or time to open an application five times before it works. It's quicker but the FC's probably even it out. Right now it's personally not worth it, I'll keep playing with the releases until it's worth it. Good find though, keep up the good work.

in general just reading the op of the rom you are downloading will tell you everything you need to know.
as to your gps woes it will be a while until the vibrant has functioning gps on CM7 (waiting on a gingerbread leak and source code as i understand it) so my suggestion to you would be to get an external bluetooth gps receiver like the ones discussed in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15466429#post15466429
I personally have the one mentioned in the op and i can tell you that it works 500% better than the stock gps on the vibrant ever did (either on eclair or froyo)

the reason that it seemed like the sky fell on you was, first you asked a question that has been asked in the thread that it should be asked in, oh about every 5 posts since cm7 for the vibrant was released.
But what really took it over the top, was you felt the need to make a separate thread about it, and even went so far as to say that cm7 broke your gps. had you read probably 3 of the last pages in the cm7 thread before posting this, you would have known you answer, and probably had you opened the vibrant dev section and viewed threads there, you'd have seen the public service announcement thread about gps not working.
I know some of the responses are inappropriate, but it's more about you felt entitled enough to make a dedicated thread about it rather than using the tools available to you in the first place to find your answer.

If you HAVE to have GB, try Asgard.

i'm not going to explain howto here, as the post right abvove mine has a link to a how to, you'll need to odin back to jfd before flashing any other rom besides miui.
basically all Froyo/Eclair Roms Have working GPS. The Big Name JVP Roms have working GPS. CM7/Miui and any variants of them do NOT have working GPS.
so just goto the development section and look at any 2.3.4 Roms NOT cm7/Miui and read the features and/or Changlog for full information. SGSII clone/hybrid and Simply Honey are excellent choices both based off JVP and have "working" gps. just make sure you read the op to understand how gps functions with those roms.
Good Luck.
just make sure you ODIN back to JFD stock before flashing anything else or you'll experience bootloops and thats annoying imo.
****** Stay away from Bootloaders if your new to all this as you can Permanently paperweight your phone if you flash a new rom hastily without reading and removing certain load files in the rom. *******
Well thanks guys I will look into it, If I go back to stock does that mean it will be unrooted? or just rooted but stock everything else?

GB = Gingerbread
Android Releases
Stock Vibrant 2.1 (Eclair
Froyo 2.2+
Gingerbread 2.3+
you should have a modified update.zip from rooting originally you can use that to reroot your phone and begin flashing again
Odin back to stock
3 button to recovery
update packages until you reach clockwork recovery menu then flash new rom its that easy.
if you want full functionality stay away from CM7/Miui for the time being.

Odin3 (i have V1.81)
512.pit
T959UVJFD.tar
that will get you to stock.
then from there follow the 3 button method i posted above to reroot.
and to answer your question yes the guides will work fine. and again i can't stress this enough stay away from Bootloaders, as your knowledge and research about flashing seems lacking atm you can perma break your vibrant (not meaning this offensively)
Thanks man, I will try this soon =]
if i were to root my S2 will i still be able to get the upgrade when 4.0 is release?
If you root your phone and learn how to flash roms, you'll almost guaranteed be able to put ICS on it long before it's released for this phone.

but would the rooted ROM have the same features as the "stock upgrade"? because i know some of the customize rom have glitches in them most of the time
Yes it would work. To what level and how smoothly it works would be up to you for what you would be willing to try out.
While that may not seem like the answer you were looking for, let me put it this way. When I had the captivate and they finally updated it with official 2.2 (froyo) there were already great 2.3 (gingerbread) roms available that worked amazing.
And the same story with the updates from 2.1 to 2.2.
Sure if you don't modify your phone at all, over-the-air (ota) updates will for sure work. But you can revert your phone back to stock (from a custom rom) to be able to receive those updates, whenever they decide to release them, anytime you want.

I think yes. There is rooted stock rom with all ATT and Google stuff in it.
So you should be able to update with this rom.

I think you will have a better chance to get upgrade to ICS earlier.
Yeah, as said earlier, AT&T official updates often lag by one major version, best case. Look at the Captivate.
Froyo after I9000 got GB, GB still unavailable.
Just like the Captivate and the I9000, the I9100 is our "International brother" and stuff can be ported rapidly.
Depending on the state of Samsung's ICS kernel source release, it may take only a few days for a 95% functional ICS ROM to become available for I777. (Longer if they leave out the MAX8922 driver...)

There's a reason there is a FAQ thread stickied in the General forums...
We are not here to hold your hand for things that are so easy to find they are in a sticky thread marked FAQ.
I'm trying to flash CM7 2.0 RC3 for the "attgalaxys2", but I keep getting the Status 7 error.
My phone is the I-777, so what gives?
What rom were you coming from?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
At first, ICScrewed 2.1 with Entropy's kernel.
Then I tried flashing Task's AOKP, THEN CM7 again, but no luck.
Go back to one of the samsung gingerbread roms and wipe and then flash cm7. You can't go from ics to cm7 will always get that error.

Yeah and then you flashed AOKP afterwards which isn't.

I was on ICScrewed 2.1. Tried flashing CM7. No luck. THEN I tried flashing AOKP, then CM7. Don't know why I did that second part, but I was hoping it'd work somehow. Nonetheless, my first attempt coming from gingerbread didn't work.

Not positive because I haven't been in this situation, but I think ICScrewD will show in build.prop as an i9100, which may be causing the updater script to fail, cause it's looking for i777. If you flash back to stock GB before trying to flash CM7, that might solve the issue. Or see the other post a few above yours with info on removing the asserts from the updater script.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here...

+1. I always get this kind of error when flashing an AOSP/AOKP ROM from a Sammy based ROM. I keep a CM9 kernel handy. All I do is flash the CM9 kernel (or AOKP kernel) - reboot into recovery - then flash the new ROM.
Hope this helps.
Unzip the cm9 update zip and go to META-INF, COM,GOOGLE,ANDROID, "updater-script" and open it with a text editor. Then delete/remove the beginning lines that say anything about "get prop" so now you will start with "package extract file". Now save it and then move it back into the same location and overwrite the original one. Zip the folder back up and flash in cwm.
BEFORE
and AFTER PICS.
This will allow you to flash it coming from all/almost ANY ROM. You will not need to do it any other time unless coming from another from again. So if you want to try other rooms just make a Android backup of cm9, switch to another from. If then you want to come back to cm9 just restore the Android backup then flash a newer nightly and you will have no issues. Or you can start again with removing the get prop check any time before flashing it if you don't want to save a Android backup.

Protip: If your new thread was going well, with no flaming, do NOT ruin it by calling other users names.
Didn't mention specific names, so it's not that big of a deal. But since we're on the subject of "respect “, you moderators should also punish the "high posters" or even devs if they're acting unaccordingly and causing problems by bashing essentially. The reason for that last post was to make a statement. People should be like Rock Ratt and be helpful and respectful, not (insert whatever insult you want).

Yeah people should totally spoonfeed everyone around here so nobody has to search anything. That would be awesome.

Again, you confuse spoonfeeding with compassion. Guess what? I just learned how to do it now. Why? Because Rock Ratt essentially taught me. And maybe in the future, I will teach others, and the cycle continues. DO YOU SEE HOW THAT WORKS? No, of course you don't, troll...

Im not gonna get in to who Pirate is. But hes a respected member of this community. The point of his post was not to antaagonize or create strife. The point is unless someone learns they won't learn more. The answers are out there. Why recreate the wheel?

compassion?
LMFAO
nah man....you see there are a million tutorials on what an updater-script is, this exact error you were seeing is covered a hundred thousand times in the CM threads....and you feel that the xda community owes personal service to you because you dont understand what it is you are doing to your phone.
this place is NOT meant to make your phone cool. its about learning and development. the learning comes from doing the research on your own...not relying on others to GIVE you the answer. if you dont care about the journey to get to the end result, it is pointless to be here.
Well, i gave it a second chance, i see that was a mistake..... Mistake rectified..
Hello all.
I have searched this issue quite a bit, and I have some ideas, I just need a bit of direction.
So, I have a rooted Galaxy S2 running ICS version 4.0.3. I rooted it via Zedomax's youtube videos (I would link it, but youtube has closed his account FREE ZEDO!) Some mornings, when i wake up, I notice my WiFi is not connected and my phone is using 3G for its data. So, I go look in the WiFi list and it is on, but its not connected. I tap connect, nothing happens. It doesn't even try. I forget the network and re-enter the credentials, nothing. I reboot the phone, same thing. Finally, once i remove the battery a few times, it starts to work but not very well. I have a Netgear WNR2000V3 router. Just did a fresh upgrade/install of the latest firmware. All of my other wireless devices at home stay on and work fine. Now, i did notice that ever since i rooted when i first got my phone on version 2.3, i had WiFi issues. So my first thought is it could be my kernel? Like i said, this only happens at home. I also have the exact same router (WNR2000v3) for my staff WiFi at work and I have no trouble connecting each morning.
So, what are the steps i can take to fix this? Is this a known issues with the ATT SGS2? Am I missing something?
I would post a sreenshot of my phone info but since I'm a new user I won't be able to so here it is in text!

Sounds good! Can you link me any certain kernel I should use? Thought I saw a thread a few days ago that had quite a bit of information on SGH-I777 kernels but of course, when I actually need it, I can't find it!

yea, google zedomax and XDA. lazy money hungry dev.
Never link anything from him here. He may be smart in some cases, but has no repsect here.
We have plenty of guides at our disposal from real devs, and user GET support from them.

Flashing a new rom shouldn't mess with my existing apps or settings right?

If you flash a new rom it is required to wipe. It doesn't take that long to set everything up again though as long as you use things like titanium backup

When you flash a new rom you do need to do a full wipe, data cache and dalvik cache. So in essence u will lose everything so u should back up ur stuff and restore it after u install ur rom

Ah okay. This seems the way to go then! I like the touchwiz interface so i think i'll stick with a rom that supports it if possible. No complaints, in gingerbread i hated the way it handled MMS messages, but it works much better in ICS.
Thanks for all of your help guys!

Ah sorry i see it now. Alot of information on that page, it was towards the end of his post. Thanks. Going to flash it tonight and report back tomorrow.
No body seems to have mentioned it but since you are rooted go to them market and get Titanium Back up. That allows you to back up all of your apps and data then restore it when you get the new ROM flashed.
