It is with a heavy heart that I must post a question.
I have scoured not only the forums but the internet as a whole for the answer, yet can find none..
Still I am prepared for flaming if I have missed the obvious somewhere. That is how much I would like an answer to this one!
So here goes...
I would like to change my boot animation.
I am running Westcrip's resurrection v7.3 ICS XXLP2 with 3.0.13-I9100XXKP8-CL42141 [email protected] #3.
Is this possible?
....there, I said it!
Thanks in advance
1. Choose a boot animation,
2. it must be named bootanimation.zip,
3. place the zip in system/media,
4. reboot/enjoy.
Many thanks Mudferret.
However, when I do this (I previously tried this & have just tried again to check) I get no animation. Just a blank screen & the audio, not even the Samsung stock animation.
I dont think I need to remove the 'bootsamsung.qmg' or 'bootsamsungloop.qmg' from what I have read. So I'm starting to think that the rom / kernel do not support custom animation.
If anyone knows better please let me know.
Ta.
Assuming that like other CF kernels BA's are supported on KP8 it should work just fine.
Does the ROM come with a custom ba already, or is it stock?

im facing the same problem...blank screen with sound...
so whats that?im always change my bootanimation before on GB but now i cant!
Perhaps try data/local/bootanimation.zip
Is there even bootanimation.zip support in the ICS kernels? I don't think there is... Might be wrong though. Considering we don't really have kernel source for ICS, I strongly doubt it was built in to stock kernels. You might just have to wait for the first custom kernel to incorporate it. We don't have BLN either.

There is in AOSP (no kernel source yet either).
And there likely is in TW as well; Chainfire just modifies the stock kernel to support it.
If the ROM mentioned above does have a custom ba it will likely be in system/media (slim chance it's in data/local). If the ba that the user is replacing it with doesn't work, then there's something wrong with the zip.
Thanks both.
Stock BA, and data/local/ doesn't work either Mudferret.
Guessing you may well have it right there karendar.
Hardly the end of the world for me I geuss, and certainly not worth going back for!
Pre install .
In a custom rom open with winrar win zip or whatever .
Use the ADD button to add bootanimation zip to SYSTEM >>> MEDIA .
close zip copy to phone and boot through recovery and install .
QMG files do not need removing .
It will run at boot providing kernel supports bootanimation zip .

I don't like being right in this case. But it is true that AOSP has custom boot anim support in system/media, nexus S stock ICS ROM has the support for it.
I read another forum saying it was disabled in KPA... So... Yeah.
I guess if bootanimation.zip doesn't work, a bootsamsung.qmg replacement file probably would.
Looks difficult to convert to .qmg though
If anyone has seen any custom made bootsamsung.qmg files I'd be interested to see them.
Can't find any on the net though so I guess this is a long shot!

Bumping in less that 3 hrs ? Very bad. Do not do that again. This is hardly critical to the operation of your phone. When you make a thread, you wait patiently for a response.
Edit - Given you've been here 6 yrs, you should know a lot better. Bit hard to expect n00bs to do the right thing when people who have been here ages don't.
Convert your .mp3 to .ogg, rename to PowerOn.ogg and move to system/media/audio/ui/.

But with me dont work. I'm using CyanogenMod 10.1.
I'm using Beanstalk ROM on my phone and I cannot set the bootsound to work. I changed the boot animation and followed the instructions with patching bootsound.sh script via Terminal Emulator, but it didn't work as well. I originally didn't have PowerOn.ogg or PowerOff.ogg sounds, also the original animation in this ROM was silent... I thought the script method will work for me, as it's CM-based ROM. Has enyone solved this issue? Sadly I cannot write the question in Beanstalk thread yet.
I am sorry if the question ask before. I tried searching but I can't find it.
Is there anyway to Edit/Convert/Open .QMG files? I cant find anyway to do that. So can anyone help me?
Thanks.

See above post and .
As per previous identical posts .
.
QImage is required to edit you buy from Quram .
Normal custom boot animation is via Zip files see multiple Boot Animation posts in Themes and Apps .

Hello, I would also greatly appreciate a link to the stock qmg boot S 5 file/s
thanks in advance.
Also what permissions do the stock files require? cheers
They are in the bootanimation zip above. Download it and copy the files to your system media folder.
