[Q] Odin Question - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I hope I don't break any rules,
but I have a question regarding odin,
I followed this thread, and since I can't post there, I'm trying here.
So my question is, is it possible to make an Odin flashable file from the files that I got from the thread I followed, since I prefer to flash with Odin.
Kind regards!

Cwm recovery won't raise your custom binarie counter !
Odin will.
And to flash with ODIN means you would be able to make from your files an ext4.img and then convert it to a stock samsung (linux ?) specific .img then put your .img in a .tar and flash it via Odin.
I didn't see any tool for this.

Hmm I have a JIG so that doesn't matter much, I guess
And thanks!
Do you know another way of making creating a custom rom that can be flashed with Odin?
I'm going to try if I can find myself too

How to make a flashable tar file for Odin?

Hi all,
I am wondering what you have to do to make a tar file that Odin can flash to a phone?I would like to just flash a kernel do you just tar up the kernel and use the piut file and flash it with Odin?
bump
This also interests me.
Yes, i want to know too,
i tried swapping kernels from an already made (and working) tar, tried creating a new tar under linux (using tar command) and under windows using 7zip,,,,, nothing worked.
Is this tar file being created in a special way? do i need to pass some parameters while doing the tar?

This should help you, tell me if it works! lol
@bobbbb: Sorry dude,, but that wasn't help full at all. and please don't think that you are the only one who knows about google or other search engines.
The question that we are having a problem with is not how to make a tar file... Thank you, I already know how to do that. BUT i want a tar file that works with ODIN for the Galaxy S.
so if you have an answer then tells us or save you valueable time and go read other threads and read them carefully.

Use the search and type in "create Odin tar" darkyy posted a tutorial on the i9000 forums for doing it in Linux. There is also a windows tool/program that does it and that is linked in that same thread.

[Q] About CF-Root

Hi there.
I have asked the same question several times in Chains thread now but had no replies from anyone for some reason, so thought I'd ask here instead.
Basically, I want to root my phone but keep the stock rom and have clockworkmod recovery so I can flash a new rom (MIUI when it's stable), but not too sure what to do. After speaking to samjpullen he pointed me in the direction of Chains thread. For what I want, is this the right thing to do?
If so, I already downloaded the Odin thingy. But I need a .tar file which I think must be the CF-root downloads further down in the thread. If so which one do I need? And is there anything more I need from there?
Sorry for the long question, just want to be safe doing this. Thanks in advance.
In phone type *#1234#, note the last 3 characters from each line (they will all be the same). Use odin to flash the same file from Chains thread.

Pick one to match your firmware and region .
Flash through Odin as PDA only .
You now have stock rom with non stock rooted Kernel and CWM .
jje
So after I have entered that into the dialer, do I use the last 3 characters of the PDA one for the cf-root download? KE2?
Yep KE2 root .
jje
Thanks a lot!
What are the consequences of flashing the wrong .tar file?
edit: nevermind, I went ahead and did it anyway. I don't know why I worried so much, it was so easy and done in a few minutes.
I want to use the Cognition Rom and its based on KE7. My phone is KE2. Can I flash the KE7 kernel from CF-Root and then flash the Cognition Rom?

My tab wont unroot?

Hey guys.
im currently about to sell my gtab, and im trying to get it bk to stock unrooted.
now, i tried to install the latest UK firmware, which is: P7510XXKL2 and i downloaded it through sammobile and flashed through odin, but every time i tried to flash it through odin i got bootloop.
So in the end i downloaded :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412601 and flashed that. But now i want to unroot it... is that possible, if so, what should i do?
thanks
Adam.
Use Supersu app from play store. There is an unrooting guide somewhere here also. Search!! And don't post questions here! (in no way am I a moderator, but the rules clearly state: questions to Q and A)

To UNroot or Not..
Any stockrom flash with PC odin will bring it back to a fresh Unrooted TAB..
Download the rom again, maybe it is damaged?
remove the MD5 extension and just flash the tar...

oh, that is no biggey. once you are done flashing, get into recovery mode and do a factory data reset. that should fix the issues. how ever, make sure that you have got a SUCCESSFUL flash with odin and no corrupted files. if that is the case, do a fresh download from samfirmware.
You have to first repartition your Tab besides flashing the stock Rom....
See this Post and follow the link Given in it....

So please explain, what is true or not...
For the record this should be in the Q&A section OP.
You're unrooting difficulties are probably related to the fact that you shouldn't sell you tab

[Q] Using .Pit will reset my bootloader?

Hi,
I have a little, maybe silly question, i was reading a thread of Odia, and i just want to understand that if I use .Pit for flashing and tick Re-Partition, do I need to flash a Stock ROM (Im ony using stock roms) that comes with bootloader? or can I get the latest ICS Stock Rom from intratech or sammobile and flash it with the .Pit ?
Resuming;
Will my bootloader get erased in this process?
Will all the system files be erased because of the re-partition? (Like when we create a new partition in Windows and everything that was on HD gets lost forever lol) ??
Thank you in advance ! =D

No. Never click repartitions or play with pit files. Judging by you not knowing how Odin is spelled, you do not know how to use it

Yeah.. i was talking about a thread started by Odia (Xda member) in developers area... I cant post there yet coz im new here in this forum, but i read it very often since i got my SGSII in 2011..
We can't play with .Pit but We should use when phone is bricked and u cant go on recovery mode (only in download mode), that happens when Nand-rw is broken, and thats can only be fixed re-partitioning your phone with .Pit.
Now my question is.. re-partitioning will reset my bootloader so I will have to flash a Rom with one or not..?
Thank you by ur concern anyway ! =D
Ps: Judging is not cool..
Hey, if u got here in this thread and has the same question as I did, i got the answer..
After reading this thread (Guide)
I found that the bootloader is NOT erased when using .Pit and re-partitioning, bootloader is only replaced if u flash a new one using Odin. So there is no need to use .Pit and re-partition with a bootloader at the same time.
If u are new and dont know what .Pit files are or how to use them, read carefully the thread i linked above.
Thank You to everybody who read this post and took a minute thinking about the answer !

help me flash recovery

Can someone help me flash a recovery ,i rooted it and tried flashin recovery got stuck at a i900 screen wot triangle . device is rooted somone please help. I tried rom manager but its a no go
And apparently you didn't do much reading. There is a sticky at the top of this forum that informs you not to use Rom Manager on this phone.
Recovery is part of the kernel on the SGH-I777. It is not in a separate partition. You will have to flash the appropriate kernel for your version of the stock firmware. The easiest way is with Mobile Odin lite or Mobile Odin Pro. Please post your stock firmware version.

4.1.2
You would need to flash AJK v4.9 no swap. I believe it's the only custom kernel that works with stock jellybean.
You need to extract the boot.img from the zip and flash it with Mobile Odin. Then boot into recovery and re flash the kernel zip file with CWM. Otherwise the buttons won't work.
