Firmware upgrade through Kies messed phone up - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My friend updated Galaxy S2 through Kies today for the first time. Everything seemed to go fine, but after successful upgrade, phone can't detect sim card anymore. Also when connected back to PC, Kies can't detect phone. What could be wrong? He haven't found any solution yet. Maybe need to re-flash with Odin
I wanted to upgrade my phone today also but I am afraid that I brick my phone the same way. We both bought our Galaxy S2 phones from Germany and live ourselves in Estonia. We didn't have any upgrades till now. It came with KE2 firmware from stock. Could it be that the problem is that buying region and region where we live/upgrade now is different? I'm just guessing. It's strange that official upgrade with newest Kies went wrong when it seemed to be successful. Hard resets also didn't help him. He tried other sim cards and these also won't work. Phone even won't ask PIN code when starting.
I googled every way and won't find that anybody have had similar problem after firmware upgrade. Does anybody have idea what to do, and what could have went wrong? I want to upgrade my phone, but don't want to mess my phone up
I appriciate when someone could help with information!

First step is a factory reset .

[Q] Microphone (understanding) issues

Hi Guys,
i've just bought an brand new phone from my provider (T-Mobile Austria) and every partner which i am phoning with, was crying that i cannot be understand very good.
i've tried now with a friend to hear it by myself - and indeed its very awful. so it seems that my microphone is damaged or bad.
i have also tried an reset, and updated to the newest KE7 firmware .....but now the samsung repair point rejects to fulfill the guarantee.
now i was searching for the BOKE4 firmware to revert to original t-mobile firmware....
does anybody know if samsung is able to recognize if there was another firmware installed ....is there any log mechanism behind so that they can see that i didnt flashed it via kies? (i took odin....)
i want to try to go to the samsung repair point without saying them that i've flashed the handy with odin.....any risk of repair costs when they reveal that ive flashed it before?
thanks and regards,

[Q] Updating Firmware failed.

Hi guys, not entirely sure if this is in the correct place but I believe it is, sorry if it is not.
Today i plugged my Samsung S2 into the laptop and Kies proceeded to connect and everything seemed fine. I then saw that there was a firmware update, I then proceeded to download and try to install it, this failed some how and it then tried to do an emergency recovery which also failed. So i turned the phone on and off again and the screen that appeared was a phone..warning triangle...computer.
I tried plugging it back up but Kies was not connecting with it anymore, and everything i have search about it talks about something called "Odin" and rooting, neither of which i have tried or read about in any great depth.
I contemplated going up to the local shop and seeing if they could do anything although i think they would be just as good as me.
Before today i hadn't updated any firmware at all since getting the phone in January, i have just been using it straight out the box. So my question is, can i fix it? And how would i go about fixing it?
Im am in the UK and on the O2 network if that is any use?

Can you try turning the phone off, then simultaneously press the Down Volume Key + Home Button + Power Button, keeping same depressed for about 10 seconds to see if the phone will boot and enter Download mode?
If it does, then you may be able to use ODIN as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 to properly reload an image.
Better send it to your near Samsung service center to have it replaced if it still under warranty.
if download mode works then jus flash stock rom via odin...an kies dosnt update the device if the space on main drive(ex--c drive )dosnt hav enough space i think around 30 or 60gb is required...an if u wan to update via kies only then flash old stock rom an connect to kies hope all goes well...if none work then try the jig (search on forums)well i made my own jig tht jus pushs the phone to dounload mode........cheeeeerz

Sim fail after after backup flash

Hi, Im getting in abit over my head here so could use some advice,
I have rooted my S2 I9100t (new zealand) and it has upgraded to ICS, (worked great thanks CF) Lately the phone announced firmware upgrades which fail.
I used CWM to restore my original KH1 backup in the hope I could use factory updates again but this didnt work and I eventually bricked the phone.
Odin back to LPS crashes at the first screen, odin back to gingerbread kh1 and the phone boots but I have a sim fail icon. I notice my "about phone" is now kernal and build KH1 but baseband LP4. I appreciate the stickies for getting it unbricked but I am worried about really bricking it as I am over my head now (well up to the chin anyway)
Not sure but the boot splash screen shows I9100, thought it might have been I9100T before the troubles. The second splash is still telecom, booted "about phone" reports its a I9100T
Odin CWM and download mode are working fine.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Update, tryed a few radios and then a full stock reflash, same problem. maybe its provider locked?
one thing I can add to the board is that Odin would not connect in my microsoft XP box, probably due to an XP usb security update, this is not obvious to a novice and was really frustrating for many days, In the end trying Windows 7 worked perfectly.

[Q] S3 'Sudden Death' Soft-brick Help

Hi, if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!
So I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300, it's on Orange, from phones4u, bought it in August 2012. No sd card, all data on the internal storage. I updated to Jelly Bean about a month or so ago when the update came through on my phone. Basically I think my phone's suffered the S3 Sudden Death Syndrome and soft-bricked itself.
I've NEVER messed with it (roms, flashing etc.) and as of today my phone has just up and soft-bricked ie. this morning, it died the standard low battery death far earlier than it should have, and then trying to charge it/turn it on, it gets to the boot screen and just sits there.
I can still get into both the recovery mode and download mode, and my pc recognises that something is plugged into it and will install some drivers, but it won't do the mass storage style stuff it used to (probably because the phone won't actually boot) and Kies refuses to connect (though I've not used Kies before so I don't know if it would have connected successfully before).
I've tried the obvious soft reset, taking the battery out. I've booted to the recovery mode and rebooted, and wiped the cache. Nothing.
Now, my phone is in warranty, so I can send it back to get it fixed hopefully. But I'm trying desperately to save my data (texts, photos, game save files, etc.) seeing as google sync seems to have failed me with my contacts and photos (I know, it's on me for not realising things hadn't backed up properly/at all).
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated (although please tell me if you it might void my warrantly), if anyone knows an alternative to Kies that I could try please do let me know.
do a full wipe from recovery
Thanks - but won't that wipe all the data I'm trying to save?
Well, reflash the same firmware you we're using prior to the "soft-brick" and see.
Do you know if that will void my warranty?
Otherwise, can you help me identify what build my phone is/which software I should flash on? I'm aware that the wrong one will just cause more problems

Assuming you are flashing the stock fw from Samsung via Odin, nope it will not void warranty.
Not sure if O2 and Orange is the same thing, but it shouldn't cause any issues.
Look for the rom for your region at sammobile.com (GT-I9300)
Then just flash the .tar.md5 via PDA on Odin.

[Q] Need help with my phone SG isw11sc

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry if ever I'm posting this on the wrong section cause I'm not sure if this is a problem from android or samsung.
I'm not good at all when it comes to phone troubleshooting so I will try my luck and ask questions about what have happened to my phone just awhile ago. I got this phone from Japan(Samsung Galaxy SII Wimax isw11sc) months ago and I only use it for multimedia purposes as it is region locked and I am at another country atm. everything is running fine until my phone asked for a software update(not really sure what upgrade that was) and I decided to give it a shot and let it download the updates. I left it to do some chores and when I came back to check on it, it reboot looped itself on the AU(mobile phone company from japan) logo.
I did some research and found some things like hard reset and download mode. I tried to do the hard reset(power/home/volume up) method but I can't seem to access the settings instead, the phone keeps on showing me this "Preparing for S/W update. Please wait." after a few seconds, the phone will reset itself back to the reboot loop.
I tried to do the download mode using odin mode but then, I realized that my phone and computer won' connect via USB port because well, my phone won't boot. Also downloaded the manual driver but my pc won't recognize it.(win7 if that helps.)
Please tell me what have happened and what I can do to fix this problem, I don't really care if i lose everything that I have stored on my phone, I just want it to work again. Help will be much appreciated, Thank you.
