My phone averages about -350mA according to battery monitor widget. Which seems very high compared to the -70mA average on my evo 4g. I just want to see if something is sucking the battery dry.

I've never trusted that reading, according to that reading simple math says your battery should reach 0 in a little less then 5 hours.
Unless I'm understanding it wrong. The battery capacity is 1700ma, if your drawing an average of 350ma, thats 4.8 hours of use.

My battery life is pretty bad on the phone. Especially when I'm using it. It goes down like 3% every 5-10 mins. I'll install that app and see what mine is later.

Check your accounts & sync, I haven't taken the OTA and had some pretty crappy battery life, and I'd uncheck all the accoutns I didn't want to sync, then I'd noticed they'd stay checked. So how I got around that was uncheck, press back, then go back into the same account to verify, then back all the way out, restart the phone and verify again.
the numbers you're giving dont make sense. you would never get 70 in standby unless there was an issue, standby gets around 2-8. and you wouldn't get 70 in use either thats going to be at least 150.

Ditto. I use battery monitor and I like it, but the mA draw is way off on this phone. The 70-90 mA I used to get on my Evo 4G was reasonable, but this thing reads 300-350 all the time on the Evo 3D. I don't think the algorithms are correct yet for the 3vo: didn't even work at all at first and then it was updated and shows this 350mA all the time. I suspect they are still tweaking.
Mike
Yea its got to be messed up,i have used this app forever. In my hd2 I would get 2-3ma in standby. This one is always high as hell. Maybe an update will fix it.

Okay, after about an hour, I got an average of 369 MA draw...doesn't seem accurate, considering I'm still @ 95% power. But then again, I haven't used my phone at all.
No way thats right

The Developer is still working on it from what i understand.
Click the widget, then settings, then the bottom selection is Request mA support.
Click that and it will send the txt file with the system info that he needs to try to get that working right.
Thats the reply i got back from him when i started using it.
Mine is showing nearly 500ma draw with BT and 3G enabled, but not actively downloading.
Screen on for 22 mins, @ 84% battery. Auto sync is OFF, but I do have a stocks widget that updates every 15 minutes (pFinance, to be exact).
That's not very good is it? Battery been unplugged for 3 hours.
Ok been emailing dev. Btw great support from him. Got a reply in about 10 minutes.
Hello Nathan,
Your phone model is actually the PG86000 and I received many reports about it, unfortunately they all show the same behavior: Good charging data, but very high/inaccurate drain.
The data is provided in this file: /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_attr_text
Under that line: batt_discharge_current: 225
This phone and the HTC Sensation exhibits the same issue, inaccurate battery drain!
2011/07/06|09:23:29 AM|-143mA|89%|4132mV|31.8ºC|2|0

2011/07/06|09:38:29 AM|-163mA|86%|4090mV|31.3ºC|2|0
In the above extract, phone is loosing 1% every 5 minute, an average of 204mA. Looks almost accurate!?

2011/07/06|03:23:29 PM|-176mA|55%|3839mV|26.9ºC|0|0
Here it lost 1% in 20 minutes, an average of 51mA! So inaccurate!
Either I can figure out a link between those values and the % drops, determining a formulas that would give proper results or I have to discard the battery drain during discharge to replace it with estimated values, which are solely based on % changes, having it’s own draw-backs.
Investigating all reports will take a huge amount of time, while I receive many feature requests.
Will keep you posted if I can make a test version.
Regards,
Cedric.

i think im going to sell my evo 3d on ebay for 100.000.000 dollar. why?
it got 0mA draw while its unplugged and display is on and im playing games
great widget (not)
for Battery Monitor Widget to work go into "settings" - "monitoring" and change your "mA data update" rate to 1 minute or so, and change your "mA retrieval method" to HTC Evo 3d
For CurrentWidget just put the widget on your screen to get current; but enable logging to see what it is when the screen is off. Give it some time then check the log.

Much better than the 4G? Someone...anyone?
a little too early to tell i would imagine.. i can let you know tomm
but kinda hard to compare it to my evo since i rooted the phone as soon as i could... spend a year with the phone rooted
so of course, the phone was better than a stock evo
i dont think this should be bad, as long as you turn your data off and all those other things you can do to save batt.
of course, at 1st everyone will be playing with the phone, so its hard to say but with normal use it should last as a phone like thing should.. smartphones have never been known for their batt
Ive had it on since I got it and its still alive
Battery life is a lot better than the stock Evos for sure. It is a lot better than the reviews you've been reading, or comments about it for that matter.
For know battery is great for me. But i can really tell you tomorrow if the phone still alive after work!
My bet is that they aren't regular Sprint users and don't see the "4G on" button as some sort of suicide switch like we do....they get sent a review phone to review.
Then they rag on Wimax for a while neglecting that it's in fact a relatively more robust protocol and it's the frequency involved that causes the horrible signal propagation characteristics Sprint/Clear's WiMax has become known for...
...and then they applaud Sprint for getting on board the LTE bandwagon, even though most (who understand) consider it the lesser protocol....even though Sprint's LTE will be high frequency and just as ****ty (or ****tier) as WiMax.
...WiMax with Verizon's LTE frequencies would be amazing...ahem....in theory, of course.

Looks good so far. I have been using it heavily, youtube, spiderman , camera/video, etc... and I am only at halfway. I didn't charge it before I started using it so I am not sure where it was when it I started.
seems decent, was at home when I got off work. charged it to full been using heavy and still at 85% after 3 hours with Bluetooth,WiFi,gps off and hourly sync of fb twitter pulse and push gmail.

The jury is still out for me.
I took it off the charger at 6:00 (EST) this morning. Sent about 12 text messages, checked facebook, checked twitter (then closed app), did a few minutes of web browsing, listened to a downloaded podcast on my car radio via bluetooth (~45 minutes), wifi has been off, 4G off, bluetooth off after I got to work, and i'm at 70% right now.
EDIT: Forgot to add I use Push gmail and push active exchange from work set to "as mail comes in" on M-F 7a-7p then it switches to once every 30 minutes.
Did you guys calibrate the battery with the charge technique 8hours on 1 hour off and turn on two minutes then turn off and charge for another hour

Is anyone's battery really bad? I woke up to the battery at 830am est at 80%. I took 2 3d pictures and use trillian for about 30mins. My 4g gps and wifi are off and tuned 3d off after taking the 2 pictures. I'm sitting at about 60% and it's only been about 2 hours. Not sure if it's just my phone and if i should exchange it.

Where do I check for this info. This is what my battery usage looks like right now:
4 hours on battery:
Display: 83%
Cell Standby: 5%
BeyondPod: 3%
Phone Idle: 3%
Android OS: 3%
Mediaserver: 2%
Bluetooth: 1%
EDIT: Just saw this:
Uptime: 11:57
Awake Time: 9:46
If I'm reading this right, the phone only slept for 2 hours last night? Is this normal?
Mine has been wonderful. Can't put it down... So my awake time is high. I think there is wake lock issue with facebook for HTC friend stream syncing. I don't use it now, but noticed it yesterday. Apps that were battery hogs on my 4G are not so bad on the 3D.. like word with friends.

I was getting insanely bad battery life, I lost about 50% within 30 minutes. This is what I did to fix it, I applied the OTA (still was getting bad battery life) then I did a factory reset on my device and let it charge all the way up to 100% over night. So far I've had it off the charger for almost 2 hours, haven't really been using it a lot but I've lost only 4% in 2 hours. I can really tell a HUGE improvement.
i let mine charge all the way plus some then took it off the charger and starting messing with it.
as my previous post...ive been texting and doing calls rather heavy while having wifi on and i took it off the charger around 530 600 am and its now 2 here and im at half or so.
the battery is doing well for me. also this thing charges so damn quick.
Now that the phone has been had a few days, what kind of battery life are you guys getting? Is it better than the Evo 4g at least?
A weeks time bro, but I'll comment. Out of 15 hours I am getting six hours of moderate to heavy use with 15% left... This phone's battery is looking promising.
Like I said though, we'll need a week before we all reach a consensus.

I used mine in a poor reception building for a 9 hour work shift, texting constantly and taking 3d photos for novelty of random stuff. I left with 55%. The key is using data only when you want to. I turned off auto sync and only used data sparingly, since I didn't need it on all the time.
Right now I got about 7 hours. Not happy but ill give it a few more charges.
Also I did not accept any ota so that's one problem.

14 hours off battery as of right now after a full (green light!!!) charge. sent about 120 texts, made a half dozen phone calls, and just below 60%. WiFi/Bluetooth on ALL day, and connected to WiFi all day. Even downloaded the OTA fix for HTC Watch.
The battery is AMAZING, and this is stock. The reviewers were full of ****. Although I believe the latest OTA fixed a sync issue, so that was probably causing unnecessary battery drain.
I repeat, the battery life is great.
if this is true... and im sure screenshots will b posted shortly, think of what this will be like on CM7 running custom kernels.........

A couple of things I've noticed right away.
1. CurrentWidget is inaccurate.
2. The upper limit on voltage during the charge scares me. On the EVO with an SBC kernel, we were always worried about going much about 4210 mV. On this EVO 3D, I noticed a 4275 right away. Seems to me that at 4300, it's all over, right?
3. I did not notice the precipitous drop from 100-90 or so that occured after taking the EVO 4G off the charger.
2 hours 27 minutes from full charge to "connect your charger" with everything turned on and video playing. About five minutes after plugging in video playback stopped and another message popped up stating that charging rate wasn't sufficient for current power usage. I wasn't using the included charger though.
Battery meter is flaky though. Reading 99% most of the time while charging and green light indicating full charge didn't come on 'til several minutes after battery status read full.

HORRIBLE Battery Life due to Display!!!!
Is this because of the qHD display or the 3D?
My display always ends up using +80% of my battery...
I've tried keeping the display at about 25% brightness and auto... both Didnt seem to help...
Any solutions or sugestions?
Thanks in Advance
same as it was for me on my hd2 and my week with the 4g.
just the nature of the beast with a big screen
I was the proud owner of the 4g for one year and granted the display took up a lot of battery it was never more than 40% for me
Sent from my rootless 3VO... Lets get that working
I think it's a bit of a false positive. I've noticed that when I"m in weak signal areas, my display percentage is WAY higher (60-80%) than it normally is. Even when my display is hardly ever on (as indicated by the battery graph). I have a feeling that multiple things (including cell standby/data syncing) are erroneously rolled up into the "display" category.
Dave
The reason you see high numbers is because your display is the only thing that will make a dent into the battery. Everything else isn't consuming as much so that is why you see such a high percentage. My sister has a shift, my dad has a 3D, I have a 3D and an EVO. They all share the same display percentages. People need to stop worrying.
The other apps are not consuming as much power so the display is reading high. I also noticed this with any phone that has gingerbread sense. The shift and EVO started showing results like this once they got the gingersense update.

I don't know if this will apply to the 3D since it is in reference to the OG Evo, but I find that when I'm on a Sense based ROM it is ALWAYS display that takes up the most, and when I'm on AOSP it's ALWAYS cell standby.

the bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushing, if you know what I mean.
I'm on the side that 24hrs of heavy usage being fairly absurd. I'm not outright denying it's possible, but I can't see it.
My phone used 70% over 12hrs. That only entailed receiving push mail for at most 50 messages. I turned on the screen occasionally, but didn't really use the phone. I was connected to wifi most of that time, and had a good cell signal. Estimates say I could get a few more hours out of the phone. That still puts it at around 15-18 hours of almost no use. I could see maybe hitting 24hrs if I didn't touch it the entire time.
Great
I am very pleased with battery life. I'm getting 8 hours plus without any problems.
I have never check to see how long it actually last. I've never just let it run over night. But I have run it about 20 hours on days since I got it and by the time I'm plugging it in at night it still has 30%+ left on it's charge. I run all sorts of stuff during the day, play games, check XDA, use the internet, 4G, navigator, etc., plus spend 3-4 hours on actually talking for work. So, I could believe the 24 hours, especially after running for 20+ hours on days. I always let it charge completely overnight though.
Fully charged on AC overnight. Unplugged at 7:30am. its not even 10 yet and the phone is below 50% charge. i have made two short phone calls and sent a few texts. that's it.
This is pathetic. Even if it is radio related, that's still not acceptable.
Hoping to see the Seidio fat battery get released soon. At least the phone will last a day then
Any thoughts on the OTA perhaps improving battery life? I hesitate to apply it while waiting for root, but from what I am reading, we might be at the mercy of HTC in that regard anyway...
Edit: 30 minutes later, down to 15% charge. amazing.
Given the recent run of battery posts, i thought i would join in. Yes you read it correctly; 98% after 5 hrs on battery. Thats with an up-time of 8:20, and an awake time of 1:51. During that time i checked and replied to a couple of emails(opened a photo attached) looked at pics in the gallery, and watched a 30 second video w/max volume three times. Also checked the weather several times to update the 5-day forecast.
So whats the secret? Dont open up any of the other screens after you reboot. Or, you can remove whatever you have on there and have only one active screen.
Heres the proof ( sorry about the crappy pic, all i had was my old Hero)
How do you do it can you explain a little better
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Well, I don't have a picture, but my battery is down 2 bars on the screen you are showing...so roughly 80% I guess. I have up time showing 39:17:xx and awake time of 12:51:xx. I've looked at some pictures of my cat several times (had to put him to sleep yesterday due to a degenerative disc disease that finally damaged his spinal cord to where he couldn't walk anymore ) I did a lot of texting, e-mailing, some web surfing, and updating some programs from the market. I also talked on the phone for about an hour.
What did I do for this? Well, the only account sync I have is GMail, all the other crap is turned off. I have the LCD brightness locked at about 20% (auto brightness unchecked), I use WiFi whenever possible since 3G sucks the battery, and the only widget I have running is the HTC Sense weather/clock thing. It is set to update every 4 hours. Otherwise pretty basic stuff.
Uptime and awake time don't mean anything in regards to your claim. That just means, since you last rebooted your phone has been up for 8 hrs 20 min, etc. What you have to show to backup your claim is the time since unplugged...

Well, I don't really have to prove anything to you. We are not in court and I am not on trial. However, I can tell you I wake up every morning at 7:30 and unplug my phone which means, at the very least, the awake time is accurate. I didn't realize up time was only since last reboot. But still, sitting at 8/10 bars at 13 hours. If you don't believe it, then don't.

OK, so its was on battery for 5 hours and I unplugged it at that time. Im not trying to brag, cause frankly the battery was pretty crappy for the first week. I believe the stand-by time on this phone is awesome, Im more concerned about how fast the battery drains once you start using it.

When you reboot your phone, the only active screen is the home screen. If you long-press the Home button, you will see the other six screens blank. I left the other screens the way they came from the factory and found out that if you even look at them once, they seem to remain active even if they are not being updated.
I was charging my phone before I went to bed, and waking up with 95% (yes I minimized all the background updates). Then I would drive to work with BT on and it would go to 93%. 12 hours later, after two text messages and two voice mails, Im at 70%. Sure my up time was 19 hrs, but my awake time was 40 minutes max. So basically you need to keep everything but the essentials off your screens. This is my experience, as im sure there are people out there on 4G 8 hrs a day who come home with 50%+ on their phone.
Can I put apps on those screens so basically no widgets on any screen but the home

You don't have GPS enabled. That's cheating.
3G (or WiFI, 4G enabled) GPS, auto sync, backlighting, widgets, exchange, twitter, facebook, live wallpaper, all the reasons we bought the phone?! Those should be running at all times. (Otherwise, what exactly is the point? Srsly?)
If the battery life is still 3 hours then I am expecting a phone that hasn't and won't be built for 20 years.

I think we use our phones very differently. I like those features but I don't have them on all the time. I use the GPS when I need to use a GPS. I look at FB or Twitter when I have time to look at them. Live wallpaper, while cute, doesn't do much for me. Exchange and Gmail push is about all I use regularly.

I get about the same when I'm working a 10-14. That's with checking exchange email, background sync and data on, sending texts on a normal basis, brightness about 30-40%, checking fb, etc etc. Battery doesn't drain much at all for me while it's sleeping which is great when I'm working these shifts and don't care to bring a charger.
Using GPS with location on and Sprint Navigation will drain that beast though, but that's expected.

Damn your finely worded post. Now I feel the sudden urge to re-evaluate my obsession with live wallpapers so I don't feel like a lame kid that likes something "cute"

I had a epic 4g with extended battery 3500 mah and I would constantly use the phone even while at work.. At the end of the day my battery would be at 50%. On my evo 3d I use the phone even more now because its new and my battery would still be 50 % at the end of the day.
Fairly impressed
Doesnt the GPS only draw power if an app is actually using it at the time? So does it matter if you leave it on
Im pretty sure that if you leave your GPS on it will be put into "stand-by" mode, which in effect draws power. I could be wrong tho

that aint proof at all
use a program like battery status, that'll actually tell us how long its been since it was off the charger
but even from this, shows your phone doing a lot of sleeping
we'd be more impressed with a lot of battery left after actually USING the phone
I shut everything off that im not using. Only time my battery life sucks is when Im at work and get very low signal. That drains the crap out of the battery.
Plus I use Juice Defender, seems to provide some improvement.
After being unplugged and having used it as I described, after 20 hours I still had 68% of my battery charge. I don't have juice defender, but I made the adjustments I mentioned and the one I forgot to mention is I also turned off location services.
So far I am pretty happy with the battery life, but I also remember with the Epic I had amazing battery life for a month or so and then it was more like what is "average" for that phone. I'm no scientist, but I would guess that brand new lithium batteries do a little better and then when the chemicals start breaking down you lose that "little extra."
Sorry, I guess I should have included two pics. I do have battery status and it showed 5:05 since off the charger. I chose to post the other pic since I thought it meant more in terms of use. Sure it doesn't tell you how I was using it, just that it want sleeping for half of that time. Im not trying to impress anyone, i just thought it was a huge improvement from the past week where 5 hours off charger showed 70% battery left with only 40 minutes of up time (which resulted form a couple of VM and texts). So my point was along the lines of; more use, but huge improvement in battery consumption.

20hours, and almost 70% left?
i say super BS
because you know at that rate you can go almost 3 days with no charge right?
i know the evo 3d battery has bout 150 more mah then the 4G, but c'mon son
I ,am on it a lot, between GPS and general usage, ,but this still seems like too fast to drain compared to what others here have said. I had this problem with my Atrix too, maybe i am just destined for bad luck with battery life
Do you use anything like juice defender. This app literly doubled my battery life!

Apps like that only increase standby battery life. Everything else is very minimal.
And I'm not happy with the battery life either. My phone is plugged in right now and the battery is actually going down as I use it.

I pull mine off the charger at 7:00 and at 3pm or so it's down to 85%, I'll put it on the charger at work until I leave around 5-6pm (mainly because I'm used to having to do this on my previous phone) and at night if I'm not using it constantly it's around 70-75% when I plug it in at bed time.
I suspect anyone getting that bad of battery life must be using it constantly, ie: Playing games, browsing, trolling facebook, etc.. Even in the "new toy" stage I'm getting great battery life.
FYI I don't have LTE, but do generally have good 4G.
You honestly can't use any phone on GPS without external power and expect that you're not going to discharge quickly. Assuming that you are running a car charger during GPS and just didn't say so, search the i-717 threads, since the topic has been well vetted on what chargers are more effective, etc. There are definite differences.

The fact that there are people out there that get really good battery life means the problem is you and not the phone. If you refresh facebook every minute of course your battery life will be crappy. apps like juicedefender are just marketing crap. as long as there are no running apps in the background that eat your battery, you do not need any juicedefender or tasker. also setting screen-off behavior to conservative on set cpu helps improve battery life.
When I first got my i717 and was using it on the stock rom I had pretty terrible battery life. I take it off the charger at 5:00am and had decent battery life (around 5 to 7 hours without GPS) but I use my phone a lot for internet/email. I think your battery life is completely normal given your usage.
Most people get about 5hrs screen on time. Total on battery ranges up to about 24hrs, but only if the screen is off at least 19 of them.

i can get about 3 or so
5 hours of screen time AND 19hours standby sounds incredible
would sure like to see screen shot as well
and def dont think 5 hours is any type of avg
I had GPS running on my phone for 4 hours today, had blue tooth on half the time without knowing it, sending text messages, making two 5 min phone calls, checking maps, checking FML and reading a book for about an hour and drained down to about 70% and I have the brightness set at auto. I would exchange it for a new battery.
On average with several texts per hour, several 5-10 min phone calls, taking a few pics and uploading them to picasa, checking facebook, updating status and checking emails I can pull off the charger at 630am and still have 50% battery (at least) by 630pm.
I do have the juicedefender (which isn't crap, it turns off signal after so long so you aren't trolling for signals when you aren't on the phone).

I had a ss of my buddies yesterday, but can't restore mms lol. There are plenty of other ss in the note section. He was at 22+ hrs with about 4:30 of screen on and some % remaining. I have to charge around 7-9 everynight at 4-4:30 hrs screen on, but my use is pretty heavy. I sync 4 gmail accounts, a separate GV, 3 calendars, and several apps.
If yours is much worse than that, you likely have a few troublesome apps or are playing games. First, after a full charge, reset cpuspy timers, lock it, and set it down for a few hours (I know, impossible). Then check to see that your CPU has been in deep sleep about 95% of the time. If not, use better battery stats to see what has been request wakelocks. Not only the most total time, but the total number. Any app that looks outrageous, freeze it or uninstall it. For system processes that look troublesome, Google. You can often find simple tricks online that will tell you what's causing them to go crazy. Beyond that, turn off syncing of anything that isn't needed or doesn't matter (like Facebook), and uninstall stuff you never use.
Another slight help is the brightness widget (don't use the actual widget, just put the app on your homescreen, it works the same) or dimmer in market as they can both set the brightness to a value of 10 (Samsung lowest stock is 20), and even if you can't tell the difference, it helps. Jkay settings in saurom can set the auto brightness profile slightly darker than stock. Umm, and the obvious, use less Widgets, longer sync intervals, processor scaling and speed profiles, and buy a couple rapid chargers, wall and auto.
A couple things to note after seeing a few of these posts...
BT can be on, but without it searching, connected, or listening it's not active.
GPS isn't active unless its in use aand you see the icon in the notification bar. That being said, fb, websites, and many other apps that request location will activate it.

YOU MUST CALIBERATE THE BATTERY!! I have no issues I use my phone heavy all day and get 15 hours and I still have 20% left. All you have to do is
1) Charge you phone until it says "charged"
2)Leave phone plugged in and power off and let it charge until the battery meter literally says "100" (screen will sleep so you can check with volume rocker to light screen)
3) power on phone and let boot and than power off and wait till you see 100% again
4) now keep doin this and you will notice it will start displaying "100%" faster and faster usually takes 6-7 times cycling like this
5) After you do this download Battery Caliberation (root required) app from market and hit the caliberate button and boom your good to go
I do this on every android phone I own when I flash a new rom or purchase a fresh one. Everyone should do this everytime you flash a new rom and I can CONFIRM significant battery longevity on all my android phones I have done this with
You only have to do it once so just get it out the way and you'll get through a whole dayand have some juice to play with.
I get 15+ hours and do not any battery juice defender apps

Just to be clear here, Tasker has nothing to do with battery life. It doesn't hurt it, nor "help" it. However, you certainly could write tasks/contexts that would decrease battery life, and there are a few scripts out there which do silly stuff like autokilling, etc... But if we're talking "battery savings", Tasker and JD do not go in the same category.
IMO JD is only useful if you're frequently in an area with no signal, like you work in a basement or deep inside of a solidly constructed building. Since you mentioned Tasker, in this context it does help me a bit on battery because my wifi turns off when I leave the house, but that's also something JD can help with. If you don't have a wifi connection it'll turn off wifi (and I believe turn it back on periodically to see if there's one available?) I don't use JD, so can't speak too much for it.

Hour? Hour and a half? I'm working during that period. I usually hit news sites and G+ when I'm first at my desk in the morning, so that's 30 minutes or so off and on looking at it, then perhaps an hour over the rest of the day, sometimes more at lunch.
I'll look closer today and post back.
