Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently upgraded from a stock Nexus One. I'm in the US on AT&T. Purchased my SGS2 from Expansys, popped in my sim card, and have been happily using it since.
I was waiting from CM7 to mess around, but now that the 2.3.4 rom is leaked I wanted to give it a shot. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where I can learn more about how to flash the leaked ROM?
My phone info:
Model number: GT-i9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKE4
Kernel Version: 2 dot 6 dot 35 dot 7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 root at DELL103 #2
Thanks in advance
sorry about the 'dots', fist post.
Instructions should be on the originating site as always .Samfirmware.com
Usual method is to flash through Odin single file in PDA .
However i would want confirmation that its a official release not a beta .

Hi guys,
Hopefully you can offer me some advice.
I've been running on stock and normal kies releases on my O2 Samsung Galaxy S2 and I rooted it using infratechs technique is in 'stock' threads. A few days ago an update came up on Kies for the 2.3.5, I've updated and everything apart from my reception is fine. Where before I had say 3 out of 5 bars, now I have none and in areas where I had full strength I only have 3.
My phone details are now:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI4
Kernal Version: 2.35.7-I9100XWKJ1-CL647431 [email protected] #2
Gingerbread Version: GINGERBREAD.XWKJ1
I've not done anything else to the device since I updated it, not sure why it still says root on ther kernal, But none the less has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do to fix the problem? I don't want to start playing around with flashing until I've had some real guidance from people who know alot more then me!
Thanks in advance.

You need to flash a different modem. That will probably take away your problem. Do you know which rom you had? Then you can flash that modem onto your device.

Hi Lenny, thanks for the quick response it is appreciated.
I don't I'm afraid, I'm guessing it would have been the stock one on the previous version?
Here is a topic about modems that can be flashed true your recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593
Just try some out and see what works for you the best You could start with the latest and then try the one before that one etc.
How do you know if it worked?

Lennyz1988 - thanks for the guidance. I am definitely a newbie at this. Yesterday my G2 updated it's firmware and the did 2.3.5. The reception dropped straightaway and not doesn't work in parts of the house it did easily before. Those calling me said it was terrible. God forbid, I am having to use an old iphone now!!!
I have rooted the phone, loaded Rom Manager, put it in recovery mode and then told it to install one of the zip files (kp1). It did started the install (orange bar across bottom) but had to press the home key a couple of times to keep it going (there was yellow lines of scripts or comments with several lines of red in the middle each time I pressed the home key but too fast to read).
Anyway, no difference so I suspect it didn't work. Any ideas - stats below ??
I would pay for help if someone could fix the thing.
Vodafone carrier
Baseband - I9100BUK1
Kernel - [email protected]#2
Build - GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3
Original O2 shipped modems first release was KDH
Any of the released modems work on O2 UK some may give individuals better reception .
If you use CWM root and Rom Manager = problems .

Hi Frnds,
I am newbie in SGS2 Family i bought Samsung Galaxy S 2 and update my first firmware update with official update 2.3.4.
So my Latest firmware is : PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KH1(DBT)
Now i want to update it with 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 as official firmware is taking to give update on my country and right now i m in india.
I don't know about which Rom m i have and what kernel i m using.
So kindly please please let any friend help me which kernel or rom should i upgrade with so ill be having latest firmware update on my SGS2 mobile.
Please pls help me.
If you updated via KIES, you have the stock Samsung ROM. You can see the kernel in settings -> about.
If you want something that isn't available from KIES, you have to flash a custom ROM, pick one from this list. I think the only one that is 2.3.7 is CM7 (and maybe MIUI), those are AOSP ROMs, a tad different from Samsung ROMs, so I wouldn't advise them for a newbie.
Other than this, please read around the forums, most of the questions were already answered, and no one likes lazy and stupid people asking lazy and stupid questions.

Actually there are so many thread i just have confused what to download pls show me one way rest ill findout promise ....
Sorry if i broken any of forum rules.
thanks
At the moment for India there is no official 2.3.6/7 available and if you look at the firmware your phone has you will see that it has a german csc(DBT).The only way to get to what you want is to flash something like KK5 and then a custon ROM with a built-in multi-csc package that contains the csc for your region or one that would at least do the same job.XDA have INU as indias csc although a neighbouring countries csc will quite often do the same job.Seeing as your phone is on a german firmware(DBT) Kies will search for the latest german update unless you want to flash it.

Look in the development section. There you will find the things you want to know. Flashing roms involves risks, so you should start learning what everything means. It will save you a lot of problems.

Why do you want to update when you have just got a new phone ? You will hardly notice much, if anything, by updating. Use your phone as it is for a couple of weeks, find out what you like and what you don't like. In the mean time read about all these threads here regarding rooting, flashing methods, various ROM/themes etc.
Is it really that hard to find?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Everything you need is in that thread. Read read read.

If you dont want to flash a custom ROM you could go to the link below and flash from the "Frankinstein" section at the bottom the KK5 firmware then factory reset your phone, boot to download again and flash the India ODD KF3 CSC from the csc section given at the bottom and then when its done you need to do another factory reset again. This will give you KK5 with your local csc.Thats what I did on KH3 here in Spain to get my csc(FOP).Take into mind that these are not without risks if you dont follow the rules of flashing.A nearby countries csc will also do the job just as well so flashing KK5 and then a custom ROM with a multi csc package is always a go but its your choice.KK5 with the csc flash will be more close to stock looking and custom ROMs bring more mods and themes.

alright. long story short i bought a factory unlocked GSII (from amazon) parallel import. it is the international version
there is no carrier bloatware. it currently has a vodafone australia SIM in it.
even though the ICS update for the GSII was released today in a few countries, does that mean i still have to wait? id check but i have to get kies to be able to sync to my phone first. working on that now
also, as far as i know, the phone was from france, and the modem firmware is for Poland. im quite interested in knowing some more info about this phone.. where it came from and info about it. here are the details
model number: GT-i9100
android version: 2.3.5
baseband version: i9100xxki4

why would it not be a original kernel?
Just download firmware from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
use Odin for update according to the instructions in the beginning of that thread.
The standard XXLPQ-version should work fine for you (installed it myself yesterday).
There are no problem with your kernel, JJEgan is usually right, but this time I believe he replied too fast
(mixing up Linux kernel version with Android version)
And if you want root, then install correct CF-root kernel from this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
The important thing is that you have the standard international version of SGS2 (i9100), and that seems to be the case. None of the firmwares in the thread above will brick an i9100...

Hello everybody,
I have a SGS2 from Bell Canada. I upgraded the stock firmware following various guides here. I managed to root it and to unlock it using Galaxy S unlock from the market.
The phone is running well now, battery life is about 2-3 days (I have Juice Defender and it helps).
I would like to upgrade to ICS but after reading a few threads I am very confused...
My first question is: will I lose my unlock?
Then, Kies does not recognize my phone any more; should I flash back to stock and wait for ICS to be available for my carrier and take it from there? Or should I go through Odin and just flash one of the ROMs released for Europe (or another region).
I am even willing to pay for Mobile Odin Pro and flash it directly from the phone, I read that it's safe and you don't lose any data, although other people were saying that it's better to just start from scratch.
Right now my phone info is the following:
PRODUCT CODE: GT-I9100LKMBMC
pda: I9100XWKK5
PHONE: I9100XXKI3
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Model: GT-I9100 (shouldn't it have a M at the end?)
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I9100xxki3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100xwkk5-CL754841
[email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKK5
So, could anyone point me to the right direction?
Thanks in advance
I think you have the international sgs2. I have tried flashing the xxlpq ics update and then flashed a custom rom but I encountered a lot of issues. I think the ics update still has lots of bugs so I rolled back to gingerbread using checkrom revoHd v6. So as of the moment all you need to do is root your phone with Odin and CF-root kernel and wait for a stable ics rom

You have a whole lot of options to play with, it all depends how comfortable you feel and what do you want.
For starters, you have upgraded from KG2 to KK5, which is a firmware other then Bell, as Bell never released and update. Because of this upgrade your phone says it’s a I9100 and not I9100M. Mine says the same after I upgraded as well.
I updated my Bell KG2 to ICS (LP7) and so far I don’t have any problems with it. I did have an issue with calls going straight to voicemail, so I installed the LPQ modem, and things have been well. People have complained about battery life, but I don't think it’s bad. I would say pretty close to stock GB if not better.
What you can do is make a Nandroid backup and then upgrade to ICS. You can do it through Odin Mobile if you like, as it won't upgrade your Custom Rom Counter, if that is an item of concern to you. There are other ways to clear the custom rom counter, if you go through ODIN.
I would suggest doing a factory reset with CWM, and clear cache/dalvik cahce. This will be like setting up a new phone. You can also upgrade without the reset that and it will keep all your settings and unlock. You will lose root though, but you can re-root.
I have done it both ways, and I went with the reset in my 2nd try just for my peace of mind. I didn’t have any problems without the reset either.
If you don’t like it, you can always go back to your Nandroid backup, which is what you currently have using CWM.
If you want original bell firmware, then you have to wait until bell releases it.
In the end you are the one to decide. Hope this helps.
Once u unlocked network it won't relock after u flash/update software

Hi everyody, thanks for the answers...
I guess I want to try the stock first and then move on to some custom roms...
I read a thread about the XEO Rom and was going to try that
What do you think about this?
@sahib - thanks, I was not aware of that...
@warhawk_la - thanks a lot, very helpful bits and pieces; what is the difference between the LP7 rom and the XEO and where did you get the files from (I see tht you flashed a different modem)

NO its un locked .

May not work as Kies needs correct codes .

Your choice but rom for your region and actual phone is always best even as a backup for warranty .
Personally i would not jump on the ICS bandwagon yet .

Hi,
I would like to update my Android version. I am unable to do this via Kies as Kies doesn't like the firmware I am on - Kies is terrible too - took a couple of hours for Kies to accept my phone is connected to the laptop!
Details of my phone are:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
Current Android version: 2.3.4 (would like to update to the latest official version)
Model number: GT-I9100
Baseband version: I9100XXKG5
Kernel version: [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKH1
I know you can update to the latest Android version via ODIN, but I am a bit confused with this CSC etc.
Can someone please let me know which official firmware (only want the official one) I should download of the latest version and also the link to the step by step instructions to install it onto my phone.
Sorry, I know you will have been asked this question many times, but I don't want to mess it up! I am quite tech savvy so hopefully should be able to follow basic instructions once I have the right softwares/roms etc.
Thank you!
Nirav

Also, I would be grateful if you could please give me the link to the instructions (so that I don't follow any old instructions by mistake).
