Any way to change default launcher action? - HTC EVO 3D

Aside from using a different launcher, is there any way to change the right launcher action to something other than going to the "personalization" menu?

Nope.

[Q] Launcher?

So umm, I see a lot of people talking about "changing the launcher". But I do not know what a launcher is. I see it in my settings (running MIUI on my Infuse 4G).
So my question, and yes I know I probably sound like a knowledgeless-fool. But, what is a launcher?
A launcher is an interface replacement that gives u a new home screen and app drawer. U can customize it a lot according to ur choice
Best are go launcher, adw and launcher pro
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

Like ICS said, a launcher changes your homescreen and appdrawer, making it prettier and sometimes even more useful. I haven't used MIUI personally. Maybe it comes with a launcher, and maybe it has some features that a new launcher would duplicate. I know CM7 comes with ADW Launcher.
My favourite things about LauncherPro: First, you can change the homescreen grid size. Second, you can swipe between multiple docks. You can make dock icons link to activities, not just applications. And you can assign different shortcuts for swiping a dock icon. So if I press the phone icon, it goes to the dialer; if I swipe it, it goes to the call log. Plus any launcher is going to be prettier than stock, but MIUI is beautiful itself.
There's no harm in trying out a couple of different launchers. I prefer LP, others prefer Go or ADW. I know Go and ADW are much more theme-able. The only thing is that with a rom like MIUI that already looks good, a new launcher might look out of place.
Launcher is the bit you see and use when your not running an app or making a phone call.
You can change it easily by going to the android market and downloading a new one like nemus launcher or go launcher ex.
Once downloaded they will auto install. You can try the new launcher without changing your current one by pressing phones home button.
Menu pops up asking which launcher to use, choose the name of the new one and try it out.
If you want to keep it press home again but before choosing new launcher this time tick the box it shows saying "use as default launcher".
If you don't like it just do the same with the tick but choose your original launcher instead.

I.. do not understand.. So it is like a theme?
Not exactly. It's a replacement.
For example, suppose ur running the stock eclair with the slide up vertical app drawer
Now, u want a button to launch the drawer., and u want it to be horizontal. How will u do it?
Enter Launchers
It replaces the drawer with its own, and its own dock bar
In short, it is not a theme, but a replacement that CAN BE THEMED

You know Sense, AOSP and Touchwhiz? Well they are default "Launchers"
Launchers can be downloaded from the market w/o root.
They are like a different style of homescreen...
The launcher is the programm you use to launch or start an app on your phone. The launchers UI (User Interface) is what you see as your home screen. Changing the launchers behaviour means changing the way icons are displayed or the pages flip. It lets you customize the way your phones OS feels and looks.
Does this answer your initial question?

If you are running ICS, Nova Launcher is a good one to check out too. It can be found in the Google Play Store. There is a pay version, but the normal one is fully featured IMO. Of course, try out a few and see what you prefer for your setup. When I hit the home button on my phone, it lets me select which launcher it uses by default so you can swap them out.

[Q] 3rd Party Launchers

Anyone having the issue where the launcher has the menu (the grey bar with 3 dots - not the scrollbar) on the bottom taking up space. both launcher pro and go launcher EX do it, however, Nova does not... the thing is, i like go launcher ex, but the menu bar annoys the crap out of me
adw launcher ex, which was the launcher of choice on my OG, made me so pissed that i got rid of it after about 35 minutes. that bar sucks nut.
sadly, i went back to sense. go launcher was decent on the OG. really decent. it also has the sh1tty menu bar
I got apex, but I really like the 3D app drawer like the nexus s... Oh well, at least it doesn't have the bar. Go laucher pro ex is the best but it has the bar. Blah
I want things like Camera and Wallet on my lock screen, but not on my normal interface dock. I have the HTC Launcher set up with everything I want on my lock screen, and then I'm running Nova on top of that. No dots at the bottom, just pure ICS bliss.

EXACTLY my setup too.
I'm playing with Nova Launcher Prime. Still in beta but pretty good
Glad to hear nova doesn't show the menu button. It's my favorite launcher. Now I just need my Evo LTE

same problem with Go Launcher....
Most ROMs allow you to remove that button now.

But if you delete it you wont have a menu correct?

[Q] change all app drawer from left-right to up-down

in the 'all apps' drawer, anyone figure out how to change the screen-swipe to up-down from left-right, without installing a new launcher???
Yeah, I'd like this too. But I use Nova launcher, which allows vertical. I just really don't like having my app drawer scroll the same way as my desktop. Just not enough distinction between the 2.

i agree. its like just having a double-decker set of home screens. lame. i actually liked evo 1's app drawer better than the 3d's, where its a fluid scroll instead of stopping on 'pages'
i swear, adding an option for this would seem to be a no brainer
Exactly. I'm on same page.

[Q] Curious what grid size people use for their homescreen?

A question I ask so I can determine the optimum layout for a ROM I am working on.
What grid layout do people use for their home screens?
The default is 4x4 with the app dock at the bottom. My personal preference is 5x6 with the app dock at the bottom, or 5x7 if I go without the dock and use a gesture to open the app tray.
Not sure if I should build it by default with the layout I use, or if I should use the stock layout, or another based off feedback from this question..

Built it how you want to bud. Don't base your rom off what everyone else wants. What is original about that? Folks will either use it or they won't but at the end of the day, it'll still be you who created it with your own ideas.

I would think that most people (including myself) are perfectly happy with 4x4, and couldn't be bothered to change it.
I would say leave it up to the user to customize if they want to.
5x4 for me.
i would love to see a 8 x 6 but thats just me.

nova launcher strange issue

Hi!
I've recently installed the dev preview of Fire OS 5. It's amazing and really fast!
I've tryed to install a nova but, whenever i try to place a widget, my fire HD 6 opens the settings app
The stock launcher supports widget bye the space on the screen is very limite
I dunno
The 1st time you place a widget in Nova you get one of those "what do you want to use" prompts with the always/one time buttons. The choices, android.settings, are identical. Top one is Fire settings, bottom is Nova settings. You apparently chose top one and said always. Far as I know the only way to fix is to reinstall OS but maybe try a different launcher?
EDIT: Geesh (head-slap)! Above is for OS 4. I can only assume that unrooted OS 5 would always just go to Fire settings. Too bad. (Of course they don't want you to use alternate launcher. Boo!)
Thanks forse the answer!
Oh well, i think i home that the devs world root Fire os 5
