My phone is crazy... - HTC EVO 3D

I was playing music in my car via aux out using stock music player and all was going well...then my mother wanted to check email while I was driving....when she picked up, voice dialing started wdf? Screen was off too lol...then I resumed music and gave her the phone back. Then the music started skipping music after playing a song for 1 sec (went through abollbout 7 songs in 10 seconds.) Then music player stopped and wouldn't let me resume so I was like what the eff. Then, someone called and I answered...i could hear them but they couldn't hear me until I unplugged my aux out. This wasn't an issue with any of my previous phones...oh and how the hell do you disable longpress search for voice dialing? Ffs

This happened to me this morning. Had it in my pocket walking to the bus and the music stops. I go unlock and it see that the voice search thing activated. I just held it in my hand and it was fine. Didnt happen again after that though.

I just had two random reboots, just looking through xda. My keyboard has been a major issue. I grey random locks on my phone. I think I got a dud right along with you. But I will be going back to the store I purchased it from for a new one. I don't expect it to be flawless but I do expect it to work when I choose to use it.

If I exchange mine for a functional one does that count my one time switch? (If I decided to not keep the 3d and would it renew my 30 trial)?
P.s. I bought mine as upgrade from Bestbuy.

OP simple answer.
The cap buttons are over sensitive, she hit the search key. I can actually wear gloves and use the screen on this phone. I've not had any other phone I could do that with.

That was the first problem but then the music player kept skipping songs and I had to reboot to fix the widget (it only had pause, wouldnt switch to play)

It has to do with the Jack. The jack supports in line remotes, and if the input touches one of those connections, it changes the song. Another thread on this had an app that would fix it.

I've had the same problem but with other programs. I fun subsonic and occasionally more than once google music starts playing music as well
I've cleared the app cache and a few other things but it kept happening. so I un- installed google music and do far it hasn't happened but it did happen with the stock music program before I took the updates.
worth mentioning as well use that some times the screen turns itself on when I'm playing music, and when I turn the phone on sometimes its trying to total someone! good thing it asks me if I want to use google voice to make the call!

What the heck is in line remote?? I had it plugged up to my car stereo. Does that mean I can change the song through my stereo buttons or did I misunderstand you? P.S. How do I use my phone as a phone through my car stereos (via aux cable)?

Pretty sure issues like this aren't related to your actual device. Way to many people return their phone for issues that are not directly related to the device and can happen on every single one of them.
Just because it doesn't happen to everyone doesn't mean it can't. If someone's phone locks up a few times or reboots, it doesn't mean you have a defective phone. It usually has something to do with software and items that are running or processes that are taking place at that exact time to cause the issue. It is not caused because you have a defective phone.
Sure, maybe some complaints can be related to the actual device but I am betting most are not and people just over react and think they have a defective device.
I think the Evo 3d will need a few more updates to really make it all around stable.

This is my problem, I uploaded a vid about it...
EDIT: I think my Aux output is bad...tried 3 different male to male aux cables and all produced the same bugs.
EDIT2: Just noticed this doesn't happen with Pandora, only the stock music app...wth?! lol!
EDIT3: Noticed that I have a little headset with microphone icon at the time I did this, could that be the cause?
EDIT4: Got yet another app running in the background. Installed Headset blocker. Hope this one works and autostarts upon reboot.

Mine has this problem as well, but it is only with certain speaker connections (the computer speakers at my work make the thing search, then skip, then they call my brother.) I am going to try that program out, it looks to me like the connector is hitting something inside the phone causing the thing to freak out.

This happened to me also, only happens when I plug headphones or anything in the headset jack...my evo 3d goes insanely nuts.

Just lame that first I had to download SMS time fix and now this, by the time my phone is working like it's supposed to, i'll have 15 apps running in the background. lol

Possibly common E3D issues?

I lose my data connection constantly. Pages won't load unless I toggle mobile data at least 5x a day. My market app is also not loading often unless I go into settings and force it to close, then re-open. My camera also locks up a lot. Sometimes my home screen even holds that 3d aura after using the camera sometimes.
Anyone else run into these issues?

I seem the camera issue once but not the data problems you might need to reprogram the phone, or take it to the sprint store
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
It is pretty annoying to have to toggle mobile data damn near every time I use the web.

I've noticed that with the power saving settings enabled (can't remember exactly what it's called) it takes a little bit to reconnect to data (like it automatically turns it off when not in use). It might be related to that if you have that on. But I don't have that problem. Only related problems I have are the camera freezing/locking up (but mostly on other camera apps rather than the stock - but still on stock here and there) and the delay in turning off the 3d screen mode.
You arent the only one having problems, I have posted something similar in the Android central forums. I've noticed the signal to be weaker than on the evo 4G and the 4G signal drops a lot more and I have to manually reconnect it.
I have tested this both at work and at home where I used to get a good signal.
I have tried everything except a factory reset, which I may try this weekend but even then according to others that have tried this, that's still only a temporary fix.
I have also done a prl and software update, turned the phone off then on again and finally took it into a sprint store. They ran their diagnostic programs and found no issues. The thing is, one of the sprint reps also owned a 3D and had the same issue. None of them could figure out what was wrong.
I have emailed HTC and bothered them on Twitter but the response I got was basically "sorry you are having problems, try a factory reset".
I am past my 30 day exchange and I'm not paying for a repair. I don't know what else to do.

Dude ur not the only one my pages hang daily also phone rattles its ass of when typing and with a slight shake u can hear it inside the phone . Takin It to sprint today.
I've seen the camera freeze on my last 3D..this one I have now has not done it once! I'd swap it out if your having this problem. Go to another store to do a swap, hopefully their stock is from a different lot!
Hitraj47, that stuff should still be covered under the one year warranty.
I don't really have the time, or even want to deal with going into a sprint store. I know I'll hear the "factory reset" answer, and still have the same issue when I leave.
My og evo would hardly ever roam. My 3d roams a lot more.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Mine roams all the time, and plays my default notification whenever it switches to insure that I pull it out of my pocket and look at it for no reason. I'm also having the wonderful issue that seems to be common over at androidforums.com, with the default music player constantly skipping when I have it plugged up with the 3.5mm to my car. No issues with the camera, yet. All in all I love the phone and I'm not going to move to any other device. Just want this silly stuff fixed. It's only the beginning with these things, everything will eventually get worked out.
I don't play my music through earphones but I do through the car. I thought the music skipping was because of google music beta. I have not experienced the skipping in Pandora or anything else.
It will only skip once though so I don't get annoyed.

I signed up for sprint because I switched from tmo to sprint for a $125 service credit. The promo ended 23rd which was a day before the 3D came out so I signed up before with an evo 4g and then used my 30 day swap to get the 3D (paid the difference, on contract price)

[Q] Speaker not muted when earphones/headphones are plugged in.

Hi all,
I've owned the note since day 1. I've had it replaced because of a charger issue and horrible battery. This new one is a keeper.
However, I just noticed this issue which I don't know if it is normal or what.
When you plug an earphone/headphones to the note, not all sounds are routed to the earphones/headset.
A few examples are, when I'm plugged in then somebody text, call, lock/unlock screen, etc it will sound off both the speaker of the note and the earphones.
It will only exclusively play sound to the earphones when watching videos like in MX player, Doubletwist, watching flash videos in the browser, etc. If it is notifications, it plays on both.
Of course when your on silent mode, you won't hear ringing from the earphones (just beeps).
I actually rooted it (mashi method only using system level root) and I used Titanium backup to freeze some pre-installed apps. Could that be it?
Is this normal behavior?
Thanks
Sorry for the early bump but is anyone having this issue?
This is my 14th day and according to Best Buy I only have 14-days to return it or exchange it. Even though they recently change it to 30 days .. for some reason I'm not covered with the 30 days return policy. I only have 1 1/2 hours before Best Buy closes tonight.
Thanks.
EDIT: I've used iPhone earphones (with mic), Sony Headphones, I've used 3 other earphones .. they all display the same image.
Just try this to be easier. Plug an earphone to your Note .. then call it. If it rings from the speakers while the earphones are connected, that's what I'm talking about. Could anyone please try this .. please.
Just tried your test. Mine does the same thing. Rings both the earphones and external speaker.
I also have the same issue you noted where I get notification sounds on the external speaker. This happens, for example, when playing music. It's even more annoying because it doesn't play it through both, it ONLY plays the notification sound through the external, so if you're listening to earbuds with noise cancelling, you don't even hear it, you just hear a break in the sound.
For better or worse, I believe this is normal operation for these phones with this revision of software. I'm not sure if samsung and/or AT&T do incremental updates to fix little bugs like this? I'm new to android, so I don't know for sure, but I believe that we are pretty much on our own for having this sort of thing fixed. An update *might* eventually fix it (ie the infamous ICS update that we don't know when AT&T will actually get out to us), but until then, my understanding is that we just have to hope that a dev will try to address it. This is versus apple, where updates come out pretty frequently, and a bug this major would certainly be addressed very quickly.
That is just sad. Now I have to put it in silent mode even when earphones are plugged in
I hope Samsung fixes this.
That's stupid. I haven't seen any other reports of this. You have stock ATT ROM, right? Did you call ATT to ask them about it? Could be a "feature" of the Note.
Sad but true. Mine does the same thing. Hadn't noticed it because I haven't used headphones with it yet.
I wonder if this is the reason they didn't put a pair of earbuds in the box like they do with most of their other phones.
just an update. I went to best buy just now and they have 4 samples on the floor. I tried it it on all phones and it works fine. Mine was the only phone having this issue. so I called a rep and showed it to him and he said to bring the receipt tomorrow for replacement. wow this will be my 3rd phone replacement (1St one was a charger issue). and yes i have used stock. I used it on rooted, even saurom. all displays the issue.

I'm having the same problem. I am completely stock never rooted, overclocked or removed/froze any apps.. Funny thing I'm also on my second Note already first one because my keyboard wasn't working.. Anyone else having this issue with headphones?
If you do get a new replacement, please post back here once you've set it up and let us know if it does or does not still have this issue. I find it kind of hard to believe that this type of issue would be one that varies from phone to phone. Seems like a hardware or software bug that should be consistent from phone to phone. If it is different, it seems far more likely that there is some setting or application that some of us have changed (or not changed) that is causing the difference.
I thought I had a "good one" so far, and to be honest, reading about a lot of the other problems that people have (that I don't), I'm kind of scared to go get a new one, as I feel as though I might be trading this issue for a different one (or spending a lot of time trading phones in and out).
Update
So I just got off the phone with AT&T and they ran me through the whole factory reset bs and of course that didn't fix the problem.. But the strange thing is that the guy I spoke to said that my phone needed a software update and that I would get it in the next 24 to 48hrs. I'm attaching a screen shot of my about phone because I didn't know that this phone had a software update available. I took this screen shot soon as I hung up the phone with AT&T. I will report back on Wednesday when they said they would call me back to see if the phone is working correctly.. Let me know if you're running different software than me?? (if you don't mind)
ill post an update tomorrow. I wont leave until I got a good one.
again for those who are curious and check if it happens to your phone.
1) make sure it is not on silent mode
2) connect an earphone/headphone to the note
3) call the phone
if it rings out loud. welcome to the club

when receiving a txt message the notification is played on the external speaker

Headphones plugged and speakers still notify

I have the headphones plugged in to listen to music and the phone speakers still play notify sounds and rings. I would like those to only be played in the headphones only when they are connected. I am using the headphones that came with the Samsung galaxy s3.

Yup this is a big annoyance, every phone I've had played the notifications inside the headphones except this one. Anybody find a solution yet?
it's neither the rom u r on nor is it the kernel that is causing this. It's a problem in the google codebase. Apparently it's an enhancement as claimed by google. Beats me why.
There's no real fix so far. The ticket raised in google code has been sitting there for over 2 years with no response. I think asking here is pointless, believe me I've tried. I even had pple confidently telling me that it's normal for ALL phones
So as long as google doesn't fix this, we can only depend on the various workarounds out there.
Probably a patent stopping them from fixing it..

Its actually a defect from samsung. My gf has this issue and I don't. Samsung told her that her phone was defective and to return it. I had her try my headphones and it still won't work. She will most likely return it since she uses the headphones all day at work.

I will co-sign that this is a Samsung issue since I observed the same problem on the original Epic (Sprint Galaxy S) and also heard other reports of people with the same issues. None of my HTC phones have had this problem, so I'd have to point the finger at Samsung. I can't remember how we ended fixing it, but I think it may have involved reflashing.

Yea. Never had this problem on my Incredible. This is one of my many annoyances with TouchWiz... right up there with the non-centered icon for the app drawer and the lack of lockscreen audio controls (in the standard lock screen)

[RANT]Press the top button while recording and lose footage!

Was recording Ron Paul at an event and accidentally pressed the top button. Lo and behold it quit the camera app and I instantly lost 20+ minutes of footage. Way to go HTC!
This should serve as a warning to those LTE users out there, if you're recording something, don't accidentally press any buttons!

Why would you be pressing buttons when you're recording stuff? I think that having things turn off when you press the power button is a good thing...isn't that the idea behind it?
Pressing the wrong buttons is not a manufacturer's problem -- they didn't hide the button, it's not a secret. That's one of those PEBDAU (Problem Exists Between Device and User -- sue me, I can't think while at work). Sucks that you lost footage on Ron Paul though.
As I already stated in the OP, it was accidental. A friendly warning "are you sure you want to close this while recording?" would have been nice... or just save the footage and then close. Instead, it closed abruptly and without warning and happily discarded the last 20 minutes of footage. Not cool!

Highlighted in red. You made a user error, and you're blaming it on the phone manufacturer.
That's like driving a car, and you want to stop, but instead of the brake, you hit the gas, and then get upset at your car manufacturer.
That's like eating a sandwich, and you want to take a bite, but instead of putting it in your mouth, you shove it up your nose, and blaming your body for not chewing it.
That's like walking down the sidewalk, and you want to cross the street, but instead of turning left, you turn right, and blaming the people who laid the street.
I understand that it sucks, as I mentioned before -- unless the manufacturer does something completely opposite of how it's normally done (i.e. car maker switches gas and brake pedals / you eat through your nose / left becomes right) then don't get on them for it. Not their fault any way that you try to explain it. It should read something like this:
Was recording Ron Paul at an event and accidentally pressed the top button. Lo and behold it quit the camera app and I instantly lost 20+ minutes of footage. Way to go FINGERS! FML for pressing buttons!
This should serve as a warning to those LTE users out there, if you're recording something, don't accidentally press any buttons!

They've pretty much always put their power button at the top. It's a popular place to put a power button. Not every phone does it, but the majority do.
Still sucks that you lost Ron Paul footage.
not htc it was the democrats lmao

As I already stated in the OP, it was accidental. A friendly warning "are you sure you want to close this while recording?" would have been nice... or just save the footage and then close. Instead, it closed abruptly and without warning and happily discarded the last 20 minutes of footage. Not cool!

Crazy thing happened to me too, I was watching tv today and accidentally pressed the power button and my tv turned off. Sorry, couldn't resist, but the reason you lost your footage is because the camera app does not save your video to the sdcard until you press the stop recording button. So when you accidentally hit the power button all of the footage that was in the video cache was lost. I don't know if it would behave differently if you set you camera up for internal memory instead.

Your car analogy doesn't quite apply. It would be more like accidentally kicking it into reverse while driving on the freeway. The car should realize that's not an intended function while driving 80mph forward and not allow it. News flash, it does just that! Furthermore, the top button is not exclusively used to power off the phone. Even when you do want to power off the phone, it gives you a warning! It doesn't just instantly power itself off. So why should it be any different when doing other crucial tasks such as recording video (say in a more dire situation, evidence for use in court or something)?

Yes, precisely the reason of the rant. The software should at the very least save the video before closing, it's a pretty reasonable suggestion. Don't you think?

I think you are on to something that is a simple oversight by HTC. But more importantly why bother telling us your at a Ron Paul event. People not being sympathetic to your ineptitude is one thing, and trust me I can relate. However being a Ron Paul supporter may put a bigger target on your back than you just being silly with a smarty phone.

Were you recording in portrait? If so there's your first problem. One should not simply record video on a cellphone in portrait.

It applies fine -- the power button did it's function as it was designed to do. A quick tap closes the app or puts the phone to hibernate/sleep/whatever. A long hold gives the prompt to turn of the phone, reboot, etc. It's a power button -- that's what it does. if you pressed the power button and it started dialing someone, then I'd agree with you. If you pressed the power button and it turned the volume all the way up or down, then yeah, that'd be a problem. But it did what it's supposed to. You were the boob that pushed it, even if it was by accident. You threw the car into reverse (which you can do, but you shouldn't!) while you were driving 80mph down the road. The problem is not HTC, it's you. You were the one who used it inadvertently, and dun goofed up. I don't have that problem, and lots of people don't have that problem. There are plenty of times that I went to reboot the phone and then realized I didn't want to -- why can't I undo the reboot command? How about when they updated my phone at the store when I bought it, and it is now at hboot 1.15? why can't I undo that? Because it's not designed to allow for it. That's the way it works. Maybe the app should consider it's users before it allows you to use it, have you do some practice stuff first, so you can painstakingly learn how to keep your fingers away from the buttons. If your finger/thumb got in the way of the lense, would you be upset at HTC because the lense caught your finger? No. No, you wouldn't. Because you put your finger there, you did everything, it is and always will be your fault.

Make a camera app and figure in all the stupid things people do, then make the options to undo them. You won't win that battle, because they're always someone who will do something stupid.

Hey now. I like Ron Paul.
That being said, it's not an oversight, unless you think someone can figure all of the ways that things can be messed up. I want my phone to float and gently land on the ground if I drop it, but they don't have that. I want to not misdial numbers that I've called before, and I don't want my Spotify to play a song that sucks in the Radio option.
You're going just *a little* to far I think. I agree with you in general, this isn't an issue, a button was mispressed at an inopportune moment, and the consequences sucked.
With that being said, I'm sure it's not too much for HTC or android to prompt when in video mode recording and the power button is hit to show a prompt. Especially if it's not going to be saved.
Going in the opposite direction of your examples: wouldn't a more accurate comparison be anytime, on every OS ever, if you try to delete a file you're prompted with "are you sure you want to delete this file?" That's there to catch mistakes. If we never made mistakes, they'd never have to build that prompt into virtually EVERY operating system. And in essence, when you hit the power button while recording, you're deleting that video. From a technical standpoint, it's not saved, I know, just cached, but close enough.
Again, I do, in general, agree. But no reason to get so extreme explaining why the OP is a "boob"
With that being said, OP, you ARE a boob. Jk. I look at this post as more an fyi, but wouldn't consider this any sort of defect.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
If you're writing something up in Microsoft Word, and you turn your computer off, unless it autosaved (which it only does when you don't need it!!!) you're the boob that pushed the power button on the computer. Plenty of times that I've saved a file that was in the temp folder originally, and then when I went to open what I thought was the right file, none of my changes were there. I was the boob that didn't pay attention. Boob is not a horrible term -- stuff happens. We all do stupid things. I don't, however, hold Asus responsible for my goofs.
If I save a file on my USB drive and then I pull the drive out before it's done, that's my fault. It'd be great if it said something like "looks like you dun goofed, friend! Please insert the drive to try again!", but it doesn't. The file either ends up being corrupt or not there at all.
Just a minute ago, I was changing some groups on my work messaging Jabber client, and I goofed something. I did something to it that it's not supposed to do, and now I suffer the consequences of my actions. I take responsibility for my actions.
If there were a way to circumvent screw-ups (which we all do!!) then the world would be a better place. Unfortunately, there isn't a real "easy" button, or a "rewind life" button. You can't give for every situation, and when you start compensating for one person's screwup and not another, you end up having massive, unneeded bloat.
Do you really need text on your coffee cup to tell you that the hot cup of coffee you ordered is hot?
Do you really need a bottle of poison to have a warning label in small print that no one but an older child/adult can read tell you that it's bad for you to drink it?
I'll tell you something -- I learn from my screwups. Grab a burner while it's flaming hot, you can guarantee that I won't touch it again. If it automatically turned off when human skin comes close to it, that would be freakin' awesome, and the technology is available (with a few modifications), but they don't make stoves that way. Sucks, but that's the world.
And yes, it is a bit far, but...I didn't start off that way. If you want something to work that specific way, then sure, make it work. But I don't want extra weight on my app. I don't hit the button, and if I do by accident, then it's on me.

If I have something not saved in Word open, and go to turn off the computer, as Windows is shutting everything down it will prompt if I want to close Word without saving my changes.
And just like you learn from your mistakes, we'll all learn from the OPs mistake, bc he gave us all a warning.
I don't see why asking for a prompt is that big of a deal.
And I don't find the term boob offensive at all, but it's definitely not a compliment.

I can see the reason for wanting a warning message about closing when you power off in the middle of using the camera. That said, I have an actual camcorder; a dedicated device for taking video. It has an On/Off button. If I press that button the camcorder powers off. It appears to work as designed.
E: To clarify, it does this regardless of whether I'm recording at the time. There is an understood assumption that I knew that I was pressing the On/Off button. I have yet to lose footage due to this.

After ICS update caller can't hear my voice

Hi all, after the ICS update yesterday, when someone calls or I call out, the other person can't hear my voice. I can plug in ear buds, with built-in mic and the other person can hear my voice ok. Wondering if there's a conflict somehow with the speakerphone? Been over the sound settings several times and can't find anything that applies. Any ideas or fixes? Thanks much
Jim
Interesting. I've not run in to that yet. I am unable to use MHS with hidden ssid, I hate that quick look up is gone, and facebook was added. Just a few minor things but overall I like it.

Its a stock Tbolt. I did try flipping the phone and the speaker didn't come on. There was a sound setting that was checked (flip phone for speaker).

If your microphone stopped working immediately after the OTA, I'd call Verizon and have someone look at it and replace it.
If your microphone worked for a little while after the OTA, chances are your microphone just decided to give out.
Either way, I'd look to get it replaced. If its stock and unrooted, there's absolutely no reason for the microphone giving out to be your fault unless it has possible water damage.
Try checking the headphone jack with a bright light for something stuck down in the headphone jack.

RBarnett, thanks for the reply. The phone was working properly (my voice out) worked fine before the OTA update. No water damage. Just too much of a coincidence for the phone microphone to stop working immediately after the OTA, to my way of thinking. Sounds like good advice to have Verizon check it out.
No mic on Thunderbolt after ICS and app installs
Exact same issue here.
I updated my stock, undamaged, 2 year old, Verizon HTC Thunderbolt to Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) last Tuesday evening. That evening I found out my phone mic was not working. Callers could not hear me, but all else was fine. Speaker phone did work. Love the Bolt and ICS looks and feels great.
I went to the local Verizon store and the guy did some online research and found no known or reported issues. He said that it must be coincidental that the mic stopped working after the ICS update. He cleaned the mic area and the headphone jack, assuming crud may have been disabling the mic. Nothing seemed to fix the problem.
They ordered a replacement under warranty and it arrived the next day. I activated it and proceeded to reload all my apps, again assuming that the mic issue must be coincidental. After many hours tweaking the phone to my needs and setting up all apps I found that the mic did not work.
Thursday I took both to the Verizon store and another rep played with it and could not find the cause. Only options were to upgrade, or try another replacement. I had no reason to replace my previously fully functioning Bolt. They ordered a second refurb that arrived yesterday. Before downloading any apps I was only going to activate it and make sure the mic worked. I never got that far. The second refurb had a malfunctioning screen that was unacceptable to me.
So off to the store I went with three Bolts.
They agreed the 2nd one should never have been sent out with the poor screen.
This time I talked with a female rep. She actually just upgraded from a Thunderbolt and was well versed. We decided to wipe the first refurb back to factory and the mic now was working. I took it home, started downloading my apps and after a few hours and nearly done I found the phone mic to be inoperable again. The speaker mic worked fine.
Assuming an app was disabling my phone mic I wiped it back to factory and reactivated. I checked and the mic is now working again. I assume one of my apps is conflicting with the mic mute. I have been downloading a few apps at a time and the mic is still working. Only about 15% of the previously downloaded apps are now on my Bolt. I just don’t know what app, or when my mic may go mute.
Long, ongoing story, but I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas, or similar issues after ICS update. Thanks in advance.
Keep sending them back and complain enough and you might get a newer replacement.

I was actually surprised they updated the Bolt considering you can't even get accessories at a Verizon store any longer. And supplies are limited online.

Hey, a big THANKS, for that detailed reply! I guess misery loves company! Yep, that is the problem. The only work around I've found is to use head phones or ear buds. But you can't just plug in buds or phones and expect them to work for phone calls. They have to have a built in mic. Mine is a Dynex Adapter. It has the mic and a button switch for switching to a call if you're listening to music or radio. The adapter is about 5" long and costs about $10 as I recall. At least that makes the phone usable again until a better solution comes along.
Like you, I thought I might have a rogue app and started removing any app with an audio or sound component. So far no luck. Please let me know if you come across a solution and I'll do the same. Thanks again for posting.

I have read elsewhere about a similar issue. In that post it mentioned that once you get the rogue mic mute the only fix is a factory wipe. I have had to wipe phones 5 times since ICS update last Tuesday. I tried uninstalling app by app but never got the mic back without a wipe. I need a phone, more than I need all the apps. I do miss some but am adding them back slowly.
Same here. They are sending me a replacement and we'll see what happens. I'm personally hoping this 2nd one has the same issue and just seeing if I can upgrade mine to another phone. >.>
Being a total dumb ass concerning programming phones, this problem appears to be software rather than hardware related. Could a developer create a small app to simply reset or clear the mic status? I'm probably oversimplifying, but it looks like an HTC or Verizon developer could fix this problem in a matter of minutes. Rendering a fine phone useless after an OS update seems kind of ridiculous, imo. Any suggestions or thoughts?
So far none of the rooted users that didnt take the ota but rather used the flash able haven't reported this issue. It is possible that its a combination of hardware and software where the new software didn't fill the gap for your hardware. It is well known that no two thunderbolts are alike and they all react differently to the software.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Good point Disconnectie. Something, whether hardware or software, rendered my perfectly working Tbolt, basically unusable after the OTA. I wonder now if the Emergency Call function is working? Don't think I'll make an emergency call to test.
