For the people who has a problem with the trackball on your beloved Eris(scrolling left etc.) , I might have a solution.
After flashing from 2.2 (when I had the problem) to 2.3 ( workshed GSB 2.3), I noticed that the trackball bug was coming in and out less frequently....after workshed's updates on 2.3, I have no random scrolls from the trackball. The only problem is that I could no longer scroll left.
I hope this helped most people. I do not really use the trackball so I don't care about scrolling left.
Workshed's GSB 2.3.3 :

I had trackball issue and Verizon sent my a new Eris that's the best fix in my opion

Im in Canada until August and like theres no Verizon here lmfaooo...so I cant return to verizon
No time to read through this whole thread but if you're having the track ball issue just get a sheet of copy paper and turn your phone face down onto it and swipe it back and forth and all around using the track ball as a wheel of sorts applying pressure here and there until it works again. Also new trackballs can be had for cheap and are easy to replace.

I am on my second Eris due to the trackball issue and it is starting to happen on this one as well. Today, I was trying to flash some files, and the trackball wasn't scrolling down. I found that if I use my finger nail to pull down on the usb port, it allowed my trackball to work.
Ha I'm on my 7th Eris that had all had trackball issues
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
The magnets for the trackball get messed up by the USB. Something gets knocked loose. Went thru 2 nothing worked better than a replacement. But if it will knock them back into place w00t w00t!

Perhaps someone could make a kernel that does not have drivers for the trackball? It was simple enough to disable radio in TheMP3Rom without much issue so we could probably just disable the trackball. Who really uses it anyway?
yea i had a problem with my track ball, sometime i try to wake the phone and wouldnt work but now it does.. runining Kaos Froyo v39 did a full wipe and now works ok.
It still comes and goes. It seems to be bad when i plug phone in. I'm running GingerTazz 17
lots of trackball issues. i've had mine for well over a year now and no problems... should i expect them?
im running kaosfroyo v39, btw. dont know if that would make a difference.

I'd be prepared just in case they start happening for you, as it is extremely common. I'm on my second Eris (first one only lasted a month before it started having problems) and this one is acting up, too.
i really like this little phone. i hope someone comes up with a rom that cuts that bit of hardware out of the equation, especially if its so commonly dysfunctional. btw, just a couple more posts and I'm in with the big dogs!!!
cant wait to start posting in the development threads. maybe i'll suggest removal of the trackball in a later version of cookiemans themp3rom. he managed to turn the radio off, why not the trackball. i think someone referenced that earlier on in here. anyways, i am definitely going to keep my eris as an mp3 player when i upgrade later this year... or switch carriers. we'll see.
Am I the only one who sent my Eris back and got a new incredible in place of it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
nah .... it's fairly common. It really depends on who you go through & how much hell you raise ... or how many Erii you've had prior to the replacement ... various factors.
I think I'd still prefer my Eris w/ its dev community instead of an Incredible & its community !

I've only ever had intermittent trackball issues but I only use it when flashing Roms. I think the DInc had it right in dropping the trackball but I don't like the lock button on top, I prefer the hard send and end buttons.

Hey guys,
I'm have a slight problem with my atrix when the touch buttons freeze and don't respond for a while. This used to occur when I was running GingerBlur and I went back to stock by applying SBF. But, The problem is still there and only occurs sometimes. Does anyone have a solution? it's not annoying me but, would like an answer.
Thanks,
This same issue happened to me. Same result, root stock didn't matter. Even after a factory reset it kept happening. Its a hardware issue. I went to AT&T and got a brand new phone. The guy there said he has seen this a few times. I guess motorola knows about it but for now replacement is your only option.
Darn i'm in canada and can't return it to get replaced...
Thanks for replying

I don't think Motorola canada will repair an at&t Atrix 4g. So i'm out of luck. I want to know if anyone else is suffering from this issue?

I have had this happen also. Only a day or so after Gingerblur 3.1 (I think) was it so bad I backed up my apps and sbf flashed.
For me it used to happen only when I was doing a crazy amount of switching between apps, had just jumped out of a game, or was playing angry birds/ >_<
I noticed this A LOT more running Gingerblur 3.1. Ever since Gingerblur 3.1 to 3.5 my Amazon app store will stop functioning after a while. I end up using the Stock Android Recovery to factory reset and use Titantium backup to restore apps.
I have sbf flashed and used Tenfar's CWM recovery, but I don't believe Tenfar's backup or factory reset are quite perfect yet.
I would have to say my usage as subsided as of late, but perhaps the sbf flash of
OLYFR_U4_1.2.6_SIGNED_OLPSATTSPE_P012_HWolympus_1g_1FF.sbf
or
OLYFR_U4_1.5.7_SIGNED_OLPSATTSPE_P012_HWolympus_1g_1FF.sbf
fixed the issues?
Touch freezing or unresponsiveness hasn't been an issue for at least a couple weeks. My friend is running stock 1.8.3. I'll check with him if hes been having any freezing.
Seriously dude try it.. And be humble. I gave them a bricked atrix with a nexus boot animation and custom animations. I was very humble and thanked them alot and they sent it back in 3 days! Purolator dropped it off and that was that

Something is making my photons screen unable to turn back on without a battery pull. Anyone else having this issue? It has happened three times in less than 24 hours.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I also keep having a feeling it has something to do with the pocket detection mode. Just happened again a few minutes ago. I'm gonna leave pocket detection off and report back tomorrow or until it happens again.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I've had that problem too, I can see the backlight turn on but the screen stays black. I wrote it off as a bug. It only did it once every few days, and yes I did have pocket detection enabled.
Yeah it seems like a badass feature but if it is causing a bug that annoying ill have to leave it off :/

Did it again with pocket detection off. Factory reset? Or did I get a dud phone?

Factory reset did not fix my issue.
Still happening no matter if pocket detection on or off.
Happen to me once every 2-3 days.
So its probably a software issue bc the button does work. Wonder if this is occurring on alien or homebase
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
The pocket detection doesn't work for me anyways.

Screen of death didn't hold up to the ghetto mod, updated to the 198_6 sbf, crossing my fingers it will cut down on this issue
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I'm on homebase and haven't had this issue. But I also didn't have it on the stock photon either? Perhaps it's like the OTA update failing for some and not others. I remember reading some people on stock failing and some being able to do it. So I'm not totally sure......But that's something to ponder on.

DWake014 ,
Did you get this phone recently?
This is a known issue with some phones that went out with a corrupt firmware from Motorola. There is no patch that can fix the firmware from Sprint as of now. I needed to return mine for an exchange. Sprint explained that when it gets to the area on the firmware that is corrupt, as a safety mode it basically freezes the phone and cut the power. That's why it takes a battery pull to restart the phone. There was a large batch released with this bug. I have gone through 4 Photons to get my current one with no freezing issues. I would suggest not going to the same store if possible so you get a different lot # on the replacement phone. Good luck and get that exchanged asap. Peace
My biggest concern is that I got it off of ebay... I know I can bs them and go around the question likes it none of their business but do you think they will hassle me?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
If you have an account and a phone with issues they should replace it. As long as you take it to a tech center. That MAY work.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Yeah its still a sprint sold phone and I have the protection plan on my account. Shouldn't be too many questions asked. Btw put the leaked sbf on last night and it has been going without any screen of death. I have been shaking it around and putting it down in its front and back and it hasn't done anything. Will keep this updated if it happens again
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
If you have the plan you should be fine. I got my Evo from Radio Shack and Sprint covered it. As for the SBF. I haven't flashed the new one. So not sure about it. But I haven't had the sleep of death issue either.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
You are probably fine then, about 4 hours and counting so far off the charger, longest time yet
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I'm glad to hear it's working for you. But yeah, Sprint should take the phone in and replace it as long as it's a software issue, and they don't see you're rooted. which most techs don't care anymore anyway. And you have the insurance. Just make sure it's a repair center.
I've got an issue and would love some feedback from the community. I just got a replacement DX2 and threw CM7 RC1 on, same as I did with my old phone. On this phone though I did flash the new mashup. For some reason when I shut my screen off it keeps turning it self back on over and over again. It does it when it feels like. I've done a battery pull and wiped dalvik/cache. Any suggestions?
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
Never had that happen, personally. Also running CM7RC1 with the mashup. Could it possibly be an app that's turning the screen back on?

I had this issue and discovered I had a couple apps that used something called airpush. Anyway, don't really remember exactly what it does but there's an app called airpush detector I downloaded that will tell you which apps you have that have it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I just flashed the stock cm7 build.prop and so far no more screen gremlins.

So my girlfriend is still on her Tbolt. She's never wanted me to root it or anything so still stock. Anyway since the ics update the phone has become next to useless. She was complaining about it being slow, laggy etc. I thought she was exaggerating but after messing with it myself ya its really bad. Super slow to do anything and backup media force closes every few minutes.
Just curious if this is an isolated incident or if others have similar issues? I told her to try a factory reset but she doesn't want to do that yet.

My girlfriends phone apparently didn't take well to the update either. Hers never got FC's, but it froze a lot... especially on the lock screen. After a while, the screen started wigging out... it started scrolling around on its own and even made screen selections on its own.
Good thing I have a reliable source here that warned me about the ICS Goblins that come with the OTA and harass the user of the phone. I sent her phone in for an insurance claim and got her a new one and no more ICS Goblins harass her.
Disconnecktie, if you see this, thanks again!
