Screen randomly turning on. - Motorola Droid X2

I've got an issue and would love some feedback from the community. I just got a replacement DX2 and threw CM7 RC1 on, same as I did with my old phone. On this phone though I did flash the new mashup. For some reason when I shut my screen off it keeps turning it self back on over and over again. It does it when it feels like. I've done a battery pull and wiped dalvik/cache. Any suggestions?

Never had that happen, personally. Also running CM7RC1 with the mashup. Could it possibly be an app that's turning the screen back on?

I had this issue and discovered I had a couple apps that used something called airpush. Anyway, don't really remember exactly what it does but there's an app called airpush detector I downloaded that will tell you which apps you have that have it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I just flashed the stock cm7 build.prop and so far no more screen gremlins.

Screen wont turn back on

Something is making my photons screen unable to turn back on without a battery pull. Anyone else having this issue? It has happened three times in less than 24 hours.

I also keep having a feeling it has something to do with the pocket detection mode. Just happened again a few minutes ago. I'm gonna leave pocket detection off and report back tomorrow or until it happens again.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I've had that problem too, I can see the backlight turn on but the screen stays black. I wrote it off as a bug. It only did it once every few days, and yes I did have pocket detection enabled.
Yeah it seems like a badass feature but if it is causing a bug that annoying ill have to leave it off :/

Did it again with pocket detection off. Factory reset? Or did I get a dud phone?

I doubt its a dud if I had the same problem.

Factory reset did not fix my issue.
Still happening no matter if pocket detection on or off.
Happen to me once every 2-3 days.
So its probably a software issue bc the button does work. Wonder if this is occurring on alien or homebase

The pocket detection doesn't work for me anyways.

Got stuck in sleep again. Gonna try unlocking the bootloader and trying a custom rom later tonight. This is getting on my nerves

Found a fix for this. Still pretty sad i have to pad the battery cover

Screen of death didn't hold up to the ghetto mod, updated to the 198_6 sbf, crossing my fingers it will cut down on this issue
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I'm on homebase and haven't had this issue. But I also didn't have it on the stock photon either? Perhaps it's like the OTA update failing for some and not others. I remember reading some people on stock failing and some being able to do it. So I'm not totally sure......But that's something to ponder on.

DWake014 ,
Did you get this phone recently?
This is a known issue with some phones that went out with a corrupt firmware from Motorola. There is no patch that can fix the firmware from Sprint as of now. I needed to return mine for an exchange. Sprint explained that when it gets to the area on the firmware that is corrupt, as a safety mode it basically freezes the phone and cut the power. That's why it takes a battery pull to restart the phone. There was a large batch released with this bug. I have gone through 4 Photons to get my current one with no freezing issues. I would suggest not going to the same store if possible so you get a different lot # on the replacement phone. Good luck and get that exchanged asap. Peace
My biggest concern is that I got it off of ebay... I know I can bs them and go around the question likes it none of their business but do you think they will hassle me?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
If you have an account and a phone with issues they should replace it. As long as you take it to a tech center. That MAY work.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Yeah its still a sprint sold phone and I have the protection plan on my account. Shouldn't be too many questions asked. Btw put the leaked sbf on last night and it has been going without any screen of death. I have been shaking it around and putting it down in its front and back and it hasn't done anything. Will keep this updated if it happens again
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
If you have the plan you should be fine. I got my Evo from Radio Shack and Sprint covered it. As for the SBF. I haven't flashed the new one. So not sure about it. But I haven't had the sleep of death issue either.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
You are probably fine then, about 4 hours and counting so far off the charger, longest time yet
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I'm glad to hear it's working for you. But yeah, Sprint should take the phone in and replace it as long as it's a software issue, and they don't see you're rooted. which most techs don't care anymore anyway. And you have the insurance. Just make sure it's a repair center.

Photon keeps turning self off.

Hey all bought my wife a photon last week. It would lock up or turn its self off like once a day and the only way to fix was a battery pull. Took it back and got another assuming some hardware issue, however her replacement(which was brand new not refirb) just did this. It is uprooted and completely stock. The battery isn't dead. Just curious if anyone knew what could be going on. Thanks so much.

Have you run the system updates? What did you use to 'uproot'?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
Mine was doing that today too, i turned off the "battery saver" in settings and it stopped. Just keep it on the nighttime one if you or her switched it.
Thanks. Will try. I mean it is not rooted phone went crazy and made uprooted lol also read online somewhere that the sd card might be the cause so gonna try everything bc she likes the phone but can't stand the lookups

Maybe this: http://phandroid.com/2011/09/07/potential-fix-found-for-motorola-photon-4g-sleep-of-death-issue-forum-talk/
When I first got my photon I had that issue but the 154_5 build fixed that. (On most phones anyway) so you might try flashing the latest update from Juggs in the Dev section. See if that helps you any. Or you can check the build and see if you're on 45.3.7

Hot random reboots after rooting?

Anyone know what causes this any way to fix it for good

I thought it was related to root but I've had these hot reboots even before rooting so it's not just root. Most likely an app.
Same problem here

Will take a while to hunt down the app but anybody else have 'LinkedIn' app installed? It just hot rebooted while launching that app from a fresh restart - quickest hot reboot I've ever seen.
It might not be that app but then I went to the Play Store page and there are tons of 1 star reviews because the last update failed on people's phones - more interestingly the most recent comment is from a GS2 user who says latest update reboots his phone.
I've uninstalled it and I doubt I can be that lucky that it's that app and I find it so quickly but crossing my fingers.
Mine rebooted after I opened the Navigation app.
Mine is random, many different apps

Mine happened again. I've now uninstalled BetterBatteryStats. I'm going to start uninstalling stuff that uses root to roll that out. I've had these issues on stock but it happened rarely, lately it's been happening very frequently so something is going on.

I've had the same on mine. I rooted mine day 1, so no idea if it would have done it without root. I've defrosted everything in TB and still no luck.

Well I'm tired of the random hot reboots! Some people say it happened to them before rooting, but I don't believe it happened to me until I rooted and installed CWM touch......so I'm going back to stock to start all over again so I can try to narrow down the issue. I'll report back on my progress as it becomes available.

Happening often to me. The search continues. I've now uninstalled adfree. I'm positive this is an app since I had it occur on stock after two weeks of using the phone and installing crap.

I had the same problem on my previous Captivate and am having it now on the GS III; no rhyme or reason to the reboots that I can see.
I still have heat problem but I played w/ different settings to see what it is.... I had att s3 which got really really hot... So returned it for Verizon s3. Verizon is better but learned that the data (lte/s3) makes it really hot and battery drain. Also the screen, of course.
If you're rooted then go get Phone info and disable lte. I tried CDMA auto for Verizon and it got much better... But at lowered download speed. I change it when I speed the speed... Doesn't require reboot so it's easy to change.
U can also under clock using setCPU.
I don't need it to be fast normally except when playing games... So just have it at 384min and 1024max... I find this helps allot w/ heat as well... U can try and find your setting that's acceptable speed and heat.
Just sharing my experience here.... So good luck.

Happens here too with the T-Mobile GS3. I think they rushed their fabrication process to deliver a high volume and fubared a few hardwarewise. I've even had it lockup/freeze once when not even in the OS but just in the recovery menu's. But yeah, the usual is a totally random unpredictable hot reboot throwing out my resident programs, homescreen, ect. Starts with the screen being frozen and not accepting input, then a short vibration, then back to homescreen reloading and all regular apps and widges that are supposed to run at boot load again. It's as if there's a micro static short or something. Anyway, I'm sick of problem solving and looking through logcats. Going back in for warranty. This is a dream phone except for this ultra annoying bug that it seems not many people have.

Happened to me once or twice (that I noticed) in the two weeks before I rooted (stock UCALEM), and a few more times after. It's just TouchPiz being pizzy. Maybe someone can catch the logcat, but there's nothing we can do about it (except install a better ROM )
How would anyone be able to diagnose this BS
"OK. My phone is hot. And it randomly reboots".
"Crap - u r out of luck buddy. Go change ur damn phone".
Provide ur phone model, ROM version, apps installed. Check ur battery stats.
As a solution - flash any custom ROM which removes bloatware.

Wtf is wrong with my wi-fi!?!?

Ok my wife had a vibrant that is stock and rooted. I have noticed that if it has been rebooted I can turn on the Wi-Fi once but if I have to turn it off and then turn it back on at a later point in time it doesn't turn on. In fact it gets a Wi-Fi error until I reboot. I have also noticed that it seems to be slowing down quite bit. She is quite fond of touchwiz and would rather stick with it. If I have to switch to a better rom it would have to have touchwiz does anyone have any ideas? Thank everyone in advance and Merry Christmas

Here you go, this ROM has Twiz. As far as the WiFi issue, I'm at a loss.

Would you prefer my usual method of conflict resolution?
What would be your "usual conflict resolution" be whipping it against a wall cause I tell you what I feel like that sometimes.....

Lol, its my signature but yeah I feel that way sometimes!

Photon Haywire

Ok lately I've been experiencing some strange thing's going on with my phone like it just going ham at times with the touch screen going crazy and pushing all sorts of bottoms while I have the keyboard on or openning apps while just on the home screen. I'm not sure what it is but I'd like to get to the bottom of this with some help. Thanks in a advance...

I've only really noticed that when the screen has any liquids on it. If it does that I just turn the screen off, wipe it off, and turn it back on. Besides that you could make a backup and try a new rom and/or keyboard to rule out any software problems.

Ok you may have a point. From the moment I bought it I have always had a screen protector on it but I recently took it off and it's been naked for a while. But I have noticed the same thing even with other roms. I was about to blame it on the KDDI Radio I put on it simply because this coincided with the time frame when I decided to do the update. Thank you for the response, I will put a screen on it and see if anything changes...
